In the context of this song the reason the lyrics are reversed early on is to symbolize him going back in time. When the reversed section is over he's back in his childhood.
And also to add some cleverness. “Ill beat ya ass keep talking back”
The first line is also “I’ll beat your ass keep talking back” referring to kendrick talking back to his mom but also talking backwards , in reverse…..
it's such an amazing little detail that many people don't catch, one of the reasons why I love KDot
It’s crazy how he gave 17 reasons he could have died at 17. Dude is a genius
the song is about all of the fear he has encountered in his life. first section is about his childhood, second is about teenage years, and third is about the fear he’s encountered as an adult. the childhood fears of his mother, the teenage fears of death, and the adult fears as everything he has crashing

You listen to the dissect season?
@@jiujitsufighter91 whats that
@@itzseemzz174 it’s a really good podcast that breaks down Kendrick’s albums (among others). They said something similar to you so I thought maybe you’ve heard it. If not it’s really good, it’s on Spotify
@@jiujitsufighter91 ohh yeah ive heard clips of it, but ill have to check out a full one for sure
Every time I hear the first verse I cry bc I feel like Kendrick perfectly explains how the fear your parent give you changes you forever. I thank Kendrick for this verse bc the emotional abuse is something I’ve felt.
PLEASE do “how much a dollar cost” by Kendrick it’s a fantastic song that goes through so many depths of different emotions while telling a true story. It’s another masterpiece from Kendrick
The whole album has two different means/paths if played on the original order of the songs or if played in "reverse", so there are many songs wich reflect the possible paths going forwards or backwards, thats why there's a part where he sings the same lyrics but in reverse
What song?
@@rvsseldn duckworth and this song
Overthinking it. It immediately explains why it was reversed: I beat yo ass keep talkin back
@@caboose22320no he’s right , theres a reason for the deluxe version of the album which is the order of how the album was supposed to be played
album backwards does show the different paths in life he couldve taken
Kendrick is more than an artist. He’s a poet his albums tell a story. No one will do it like him ❤
But… a poet is an artist. Js 😂
Shoutout to real emcees like kendrick
Im talking mos def, kweli, guru, black thought, and so many more
the reverse sounds are throughout the album hinting to play the album backwards. they tell different stories- forward kendrick lives his life through weakness or fear but backwards he lives his life through wickedness because it starts with duckworth in a world where his father dies and isn’t there to guide him
Overthinking it. It immediately explains why it was reversed: I beat yo ass keep talkin back
@@caboose22320 well, the album does tell 2 stories and it does have to be reversed, it's just not this song that hints at that. duckworth, the final song of the album, does.
forwards it's a story of wickedness to weakness, while backwards it's a story of weakness to wickedness.
"is it wickedness? is it weakness? you decide. are we gonna live, or die?"
kendrick literally told us from the very first track, lol
Physical violence, the threat of violence, constant belittling, disrespect, insults and bullying - that's what I got at home from my dad from as far back as I can recall. All this dumb abuse made me resort to stealing, lying and running away from my problems for years.
The three things that I believe saved my life and turned things around are:
- an amazing MDMA trip I had with one of my best friends
- therapy
- meditation
Kendrick really is a real therapist, I truly love this man
He isn’t a therapist he is just man who has been through too much trauma and is able to express it. He is not you saviour.
He’s honestly just the realest nigga to live
He is a living legend
The song is about fear, kendrick feared his mom when he was 7 years cause she beat him from almost everything, 2nd verse kendrick is 17 and he fears the hood cause he could die from anything, at 27 he feared losing all the money he made out of fam
Ive said this from when i first hears the song. You are raised from a young age to have these fears . To the point were your not comfortable living without the fear and you start installing your own fears as an adult.
The first verse is from Kendrick's parents perspective when he was 7 years old, the second verse was him at 17 and the final verse was him at 27.
This song is so impactful and it is easily my favorite Kendrick song not because it sounds good but because it is just so impactful and meaningful it shows how he evolved and how hurt he was and it’s a relatable song to a lot of people and a song to turn to for others.
I love this song. Because I truly fear life. Life sucks and listening to this song makes me feel better. Idk. It’s just like I’m talking to myself.
It does feel like your talking to yourself. I understand that fully. Damn.
I am the same was abused in all types and Autistic I have constant fear my life has been pretty much a constant state of being traumatized this song I feel the same as you
The first verse was actually from kendrick’s parents point of view i believe. The song follows kendrick from 7, to 17, to 27
A great song by Kendrick with an interesting message of self destruction, hitting low points in life, and self hatred is Untitled 05 off of his Untitled Unmastered album. I think you would really enjoy it
I’ve been waiting for this song on the channel, I knew you would have a good amount to say on this, this song is beautiful in a retrospective type of way !
Man... I cried when you responded to this cycle of toxic emotional abuse. I have bipolar and I'm terrified of showing my parents my extreme emotions.
Thank you to reacting to this song I really relate to this song because of the way my parents raised me I don’t blame them cuz they didn’t know any better but I thank you for opening my eyes and explaining the way being raised that way affects you as you grow older thank you you really are a lot of help
Thanks so much!😊👍
12:05 He mentions here the names of multiple other songs from the album which this song is from: Loyalty, Pride, DNA, Humble
Its crazy to me how he can do this within what I think is one of the best lyrical and poetic song ever created and it just blows my damn mind man
He also mentions LOVE. and BLOOD., and obviously GOD.
top 5 Kendrick song
The part of the song where he mentions his DNA everything he says for like half a bar before and another bar and a half after is the name of every song on this album in order up until the song fear
You NEED to react to Kendrick more this Damn album and his new album Mr. Morale and the big steppers are all about mental health and so amazing
Big steppers is whack
@@frenchbully homie what
great video , i def learned a lot ab the pain cycle etc
I had never thought I would see the song this way. Thank you for another pov on the song.
Sorry but what other way can this song be seen? It’s very obvious what is going on in this one.
Reversal and going backwards are themes of this album (hence its title, and even its pop sensibilities), to the extent that the entire _tracklist_ is designed to be played backwards as well... and tells a somewhat different story too.
one of my favorite hip hop songs of all time. Kendrick is a legend in the game.
Good reaction kdot a 🐐 we always show him love he deserves his flowers he’s a generational artist 🔥🐐
You have a good energy
It's so interesting that the reversed audio is just the lyrics the deeper voice recited. GOAT
Listen to his album from this year it’s all about his spiritual awakening
The first thing Kendrick raps in the song is from the perspective of his momma, she says “I beat yo ass, keep talking back”. That comes directly after Kendrick intentionally reversed his vocals. He was talking back to his momma and she wasn’t having it
Love by kid cudi🎉🎉🎉 such a great song!!
“ my DNA won’t let me involve in the light of god “
he says i beat yo ass, keep talking back. after he was repeating it in reverse "backwards" or "back" maybe...
More Kendrick please ‼️‼️
More Kendrick!
I can't wait until you discover Lupe Fiasco
Thank you.
Father Time by Kendrick please
Feel you can't give this song justice without the rest of the album or at the least "feel"
You should react to DUCKWORTH, it’s a storytelling song but I think you’d enjoy it
The last verse mentions the names of the previous songs in the album which makes it even better
i love the reactions could you do juice wrld way too many?
Please react to Feel. You’d love the song
If you’ve never heard Feel by Kendrick Lamar please listen to it and I’d love to see your reaction
You should do pride by Kendrick Lamar
Be aware that in some other songs, Kendrick has talked about sexual assault as a kid of other rappers etc. I think the panties to the side now part might have something to do with that. The song is Mother I Sober. Please react
Doc, if you haven't caught on by now, Kendrick albums are basically Pink Floyd albums
that was his cousin on the voicemail
💐💐💐
Father Time please
I am gonna break that fear cycle. I have to.
I Hate You by Kendrick Lamar
4:06 It immediately explains why it was reversed: I beat yo ass keep talkin back
Had to come back to your reaction on this video, best point of view of fear
Could you do / have you done Lovely by Billie Eilish ft. Khalid?
Have you reacted to sing about me I'm dying of thirst yet?
He has
This song always hits home...it was wholesome and nice to hear your perspective
its funny how you didnt pause the video when he was talking about police brutality against black people
how much a dollar cost
we don't deserve kendrick
Nice oone
Please react to “Strangers” by Bring me the Horizon‼️‼️
1:20 reaction was damn near adorable
Hey reaction therapy, please don't tell anyone that we think we're the actual chosen children of Israel from the bible. They crucified Kanye and Kyrie Irving, but they haven't noticed Kendrick say that shit at all 🙌🏿🙌🏿🔥🔥🔥 And he keep saying it...
15:20… you saved Kendrick’s message. Thank you for your interpretation of this song. As a minority I felt uncomfortable when the “true children of Israel “ part. I hate the blm movement, it misdirects our discontent.
It's a belief that many have but it's not always an extremist view in the way how Kanye was speaking.
Should have been Alright by Kendrick, much better song
I think "fear" has more to do with the intent of this channel, more mental health centered
@@rodrigogcoritiba They are both pretty good for mental health, I just dont like all the extraness in this song compared to Alright lol
Hopefully you get off the emotional white boy rap and start listening to some more quality artists
Who are the quality artists?
@@ao6781 literally anything other than emo white boy music
