  • This is a quick tip on how to make an inexpensive whisky taste really good by using toasted oak infusion spirals. When a spirit is distilled, most impurities are removed and the alcohol is clear and often harsh. Think "moonshine". The next step is aging over time, usually in oak barrels, and this imparts the color and flavor to the whisky. Most so called, "cheap whiskeys", have been aged for at least a short period of time, and this method shows how to greatly simulate and improve the flavor. And this also works well with red wine! Here's what I use: American Oak Infusion Spirals - Heavy Toast amzn.to/3F1dCEL

Video producer here. Love the new info and content. Please dial down the background music, because I am struggling to hear you over it. The trick is to "duck" your soundtrack under your narration when you are talking, and raise it back up when you aren't. Message me for specific directions; happy to help.

Thanks for the input. I used the music from UA-cam and it takes a long time to render. I'll tone it down. Thanks for watching!

I just toned the music down willardroad. UA-cam says it may take a few hours, but if you check back, I'd appreciate input. Thanks again, I really appreciate your input!

I will have to try this with some of my ginger wine... Or perhaps mead... Ijust have to wait for the dandelions to bloom up here.

It does impart a more complex flavor. Dandelion wine? That brings back middle school days memories, when our teacher read Ray Bradbury's story.

Aloha Patrick, two spiral toasted sticks arrive per package. I placed a link in the description. One stick takes about 6 weeks to extract the flavor. I really like how it tastes after that long. Although it's not near as smokey as the peat smoked Scottish whiskeys (my favorite), these spirals do a great job. They can be used for wine as well. For whisky, I put it into a large bottle (about two litres) and let it soak for the full six weeks. For red wine, maybe 3 weeks and taste. If the oak flavor is sufficient, it can added to another large bottle of wine.

Yep. I don't have a fire pit, I live in a condo, but you could try to roast in the fire again and re-use it.
