Wow, didn't think it was this easy to replace the wheel of a suitcase! Going to follow this for a couple of my suitcases, instead of spending hours on finding a shop and waiting for it get repaired, here in Australia. Thank you for the video!
those brackets with wheels you bought work pretty well.i actually tried many different methods and got it wrong .my original case had a bracket with two big wheels on the outside.the design was flawed because it was held together with a spring which easily fell off after a few trips then caused the bracket to snap as it was on a pivot.i saw this happen to many people.i then tried to replace the assembly with one with the wheels on the outside using my own wheels but found that the wheels after a few trips touched the bottom of the case and rubbed as the assembly loosened at the pivot. eventually i decided on this design and worked okay though i had to file the existing holes to line up with the screw holes on the wheels.i like the case so have persevered but have come to the conclusion that cases which have 2 wheels built internally work better because the brackets if external are getting banged around when you travel.
Good to see that one can buy wheels that match. Was fighting my wheels which roll okay but swivel poorly-making the thing roll to one side. I’ll probably replace with generic swivel wheels with bearings and expect to do it again in a year or five. Addendum: I switched the wheels under the handle with the opposite wheels and pull by the handle only. That kicks the can down the road about four to six years.
You have got to be kidding me. I've had my Samsonite spinner since 2014 and I never noticed the zipper in the lining. I'll be ordering replacement wheels this weekend as opposed to going to a luggage repair shop. Great video and I can't thank you enough.
One of my wheels decided to jam up and another followed suit by delaminating into little arcs of plastic when I was walking through the airport at Bali last week. Thanks for video - replacing wheels this weekend.
Yes, they tend to break apart at the worst time and then you have to favor one side, which can be a hassle. I carry an extra set now in my suitcase whenever we travel. It came in handy on a recent trip. Another wheel started to delaminate on the way to a hotel and I asked the front desk for a screwdriver and replaced it. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for your demonstration of luggage wheel, I have two suitcases that I would like to replace the wheels. One is hand carry smaller size and the other one is 26". How do I select proper wheels? Is there any guideline for wheel size or shape selection? Your advice is appreciated. Thanks
I suggest you measure your suitcase and look online for your brand model. If there isn't a brand name on your suitcase, look for something close to your size of suitcases. I mainly search on Amazon. Find your brand model, or brands that look close to yours and are about the same size, and ones that have wheels that look similar to yours. When you find your brand, or a few online suitcases that look similar, search those brands for replacement wheels. You'll find that the manufactures make wheels for several brands, because suitcase manufactures make almost the same suitcase for several companies. When you find a few set of wheels that look close, you can click on the photos for enlargements, and most will also have drawings available with measurements (especially on Amazon) and then measure your own wheels and find a set that is close to yours. Best wishes and thanks for watching!
I need to replace the wheel itself, not the entire assembly. I easily got that assembly off the case, but can't find the right wheel size on Amazon. I then tried to find the wheel housing as you replaced, but nothing fits - the screw holes don't line up for my Victorinox luggage I have (and Victorinox isn't helpful).
Measure the wheel you need to replace. If you need to convert inches to mm, you can do that online. I looked up "Victorinox luggage wheel replacement 80mm" and found many wheel replacements on Amazon. Try the search with your size of wheel, and see if any look close. For example, here's one of the wheels, out of many shown: amzn.to/48D0JOb Best wishes and thanks for watching!

Zipper shuttles (usually? maybe not always?) have a ratchet mechanism in them. When you pull up the tab, it lifts the ratchet so the shuttle can move along the zipper. When opening a zipper without a tab, you have to stick something into the tab receptacle, like a small screwdriver or toothpick, in order to activate the little lever that lifts the ratchet. This is how the fly on your jeans stays closed. When you close your fly, and then let the tab hang down flat, the ratchet claw engages and holds the shuttle in place.

There are some wheels that have a screws to replace the wheels. Here's my suggestion... if you follow the link to Amazon for the W041-2 S wheels and click on the second thumbnail from the top, they show dimensions of the wheel unit and the measurement between holes where the screws go. For example, it shows the hight is 95mm from top to bottom of the wheel. It has cross angles showing where it fits into the suitcase (90mm and 96mm) and it shows the distances between the screw holes. Take your damaged wheel off and measure it and see if the measurements for the W041-2 S is the same or close. If it is, it will probably work. If it's not, you may need to search for other similar wheels and most of what you'll find show the measurements. I hope this helps and best wishes!

I've gone through so many roller suitcases due to bad wheels. Why they don't make them to use in-line skate wheels I'll never know. That one you replaced will go bad too.
Another one went out on a recent trip, but I carry a set in my suitcase now and was able to replace it at the hotel. I carry a set whenever we travel. The original wheels lasted about 2 years of constant use. It also depends on when I do a lot of walking on sidewalks vs. just at the airport on a smooth surface. Built in obsolesce and most people throw their suitcase away and buy another one. But that's a good idea you have. Maybe a great business idea? Hope to see you on Shark Tank. 😀 Thanks for watching!
A trick that I learned from my frequent traveler friend, he put some rubber casing for wheels on his luggages...so he only needs to replace the wheels casing every few months.
That sounds like an interesting idea. Do you have a link for the casings? I searched but nothing came up. Do you take the wheels apart to put the casings over the wheels? Thanks for watching and sharing your fix for this.

Yes, but that’s what they do if you use them a lot, especially if you walk city sidewalks. After two wheels went bad after buying a new suitcase, because the wheels on the old suitcase disintegrated, I thought there had to be a way to replace them😮Thanks for watching!
@@nicobic No problem! I think I know which video you are referring to. I tried taking the bolt out first, but no matter how hard I tried, the nut and screw wouldn't budge. I didn't try a hacksaw, just bought the wheel assembly.. Maybe the hacksaw is another way to fix the wheels.
Your repair method has a severe flaw. You are replacing the entire caster assembly rather than just the wheel. Firstly, it can be hard to find the correctly matching caster assembly. They come in a large variety. Secondly, when you buy the entire caster assembly it is more expensive than just buying a wheel. Thirdly, the entire caster assembly has the same poor quality as the original, with the same poor quality wheels: the same plastic wheels with a thin strip of rubber, on a riveted axle. If the caster assembly is undamaged (only the tire is bad), what you can do is replace just the wheel. Numerous vendors on Amazon have inline-skate-like wheels. I got four for $15 canadian, with all the hardware. The skate-like wheels are excellent. They have solid rubber/elastomer tires and smoothly rolling metal bearings. When you install them correctly, they have no free play on the axle, yet roll smoothly. All you need is a wheel kit which has the right diameter and thickness of wheel, plus that includes an axle of the right length, like 35 mm or what have you.
That sounds like a good idea. I was looking for suitcases that already had the inline skate style wheels and found them, but they were rather expensive. You should do a video on taking apart the wheel assembly and installing the skate wheel. I know I would like to see that, and I think other people would too! Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thanks for watching! I was just on another trip and the other wheel fell apart (on the other side) and I had brought that wheel with me and replaced it in my hotel room with a Phillips screwdriver. I had no problems. I'm ordering another set (same link under the description) for future trips. This suitcase is going strong after 6 years!
It won't run evenly now! Ridiculous! Why show you unzipping the broken lining? Why not tell us what wheels to order as that is the only hard bit of the job!
I didn't have a problem with the evenness of the wheels. Did you? The purpose of this video was to try and fix your suitcase without having to buy a new one. There are many different suitcases and configurations, so trying a "one size fits all", isn't possible. My lining wasn't broken, they didn't include a zip tab to keep the seem hidden. But it was easy to open, as you can see in the video, and much better than having to cut the lining and tape back up. You have to search to find the wheels that will fit your suitcase. However, you can also contact the suitcase manufacturer and ask if they have replacement wheels available to buy. Maybe not all of them will respond, but recently we purchased a little larger suitcases for an upcoming trip, and I wanted back-up wheels, but I couldn't find the exact match. So... I emailed the brand after looking up the company from the tag on the suitcase and they emailed back and I was able to purchase new wheels for $15 per set of left and right wheels, plus $3 dollars shipping. If you are having difficulty finding wheels, try contacting the company. Also, this is how I look for replacement wheels if I'm unable to buy from the company. This is how I found the wheels for this video. Measure your suitcase and look online for your brand model. If there isn't a brand name on your suitcase, look for something close to your size of suitcases. I mainly search on Amazon.
Is there any way to take off just the wheel? I bought wheels and not the plastic part around the wheel.
There are some wheels that have a screws to replace the wheels. If not, some people cut them off with a hack saw and replace with a screw or bolt, which can be a lot of work, but if you look it up, they show how to do it. Here's a video that shows this method. ua-cam.com/video/kV3A6nfFCrE/v-deo.htmlsi=mN5fvDOWhX_WPh-B Otherwise, you might want to return the wheels and look for the complete wheel assembly. You could also contact the manufacturer of your suitcase and see if they have wheel replacements. We just did that and the suitcase manufacture sent us two sets of replacement wheels for $15 ea. Thanks for watching!
Thanks! Hope these work for my Travelpro Maxlite 2 - wheels look identical and I've been through finding access before - FYI everyone, Travelpro was not helpful at all - now if the size works .....🤞
Check the measurements out and best wishes and thanks for watching!
I have the exact suitcase
What wheel did you order?
The link to what I ordered is in the description (click on more). But Amazon is showing it's sold out now. Here's another link to similar to my wheels, and there are several others showing up. amzn.to/3GWnpNF The main thing is to click on the photos with each set of wheels, look for the measurements and measure your own wheels and find something close. Thanks for watching!

Aloha and thank you very much! Happy holidays and the best New Year!
So what about suitcases that don't have a zipper to get under?
If I had a suitcase without a zipper and there was no warranty for repair, I'd cut the lining and see if the wheels were replaceable to avoid buying another one. Thanks for watching!
Is there a link where you bought the wheels. I have the same luggage and same problem. Thank you for posting this video 😊
The link is in the description, but can be hard to find on a smartphone sometimes. Here's the link for the wheels I bought. amzn.to/3qZBdmi FYI - I was on another trip recently and the other wheel started to fall apart. (My suitcase is over 5 years old and the wheels that get the most use will fall apart first. Also, I often walk several blocks sometimes with this suitcase on concrete sidewalks) No problem as I had the other wheel in the suitcase and replaced it. I just ordered another set. Thanks for watching!
Oh no!, Safe travels to you. You have some good skills in fixing your suitcase.
@@esosa0311 You can do this too!
How do we know we get the right wheels?
Do you make house calls?...nice job!

TY for the video. Much better than all the AI generated crap Utube is pushing on this subject. The only minor suggestion is the video could have been cut down a bit in length.
Thanks for the input and thanks for watching!
Great tutorial
Thank you for watching and I hope it helps!
sadly mine doesn't have a zip or anyway of getting through the lining.
Can you cut the lining? I was going to do that and duct tape it back together, but then I found the hidden zipper. Thanks for watching!
@@StevenParente I was able to actually remove a plate on the wheel to remove them that way! Thanks for the reply tho 🙏

Mine is bought in Viet Nam with samsonite brand!! after a trip the left wheel broke! pleas tell me how to fins out replacement wheel with that brand. Thank you.

Literally just came back from Japan with a disintegrated wheel and came across this video.
Yes... walking the streets of Japan (and Italy) have a way of destroying luggage wheels. Hopefully you'll have yours "rollin'" again in no time! Thanks for watching.

On my luggages I didn't need to take apart the wheels....just like putting wide & thick rubber band on the wheels.
@@leeleesale That is so cool. That wouldn't work for the suitcase in the video, but we bought a little large suitcases with those types of wheels, and it should work perfectly. Thanks for the link! Are you going to create a video about this?
You are lucky that you have a zip! But my one there is no zip😔
Yes, I thought at first I was going to have to cut the lining, but found the zipper. If I did need to cut, I would have used black duck tape, or black gaffer tape to seal it back up. Both hold well, but can be removed and taped again. Thanks for watching!
@@StevenParente you are most welcome and thanks for your reply. I have the same wheel. I will search this link that you provided.
The brand name of my suitcase is Timberland. The link of the wheels that I bought is: amzn.to/3UTbpEI However, it's showing unavailable now. But there are very similar wheels showing below in the Products related to this item section, that are available and might work.
Where I can buy the suitable wheel for my Maracar Luggage cas?e😂
Aloha Joe! I don't know much about Maracar Luggage, but I searched Maracar Luggage Replacement wheels and found this link on Amazon. amzn.to/3P047uC. You'd need to measure your wheels and look at the measurements for the wheels on Amazon. And if they aren't the same, keep searching. Thanks for watching!
What about the other side? No zipper!
Not with my suitcase, because all the wheels are accessible from one side. Each suitcase will vary and some people may have to cut theirs open if one isn't provided. Although I think the manufacturer will have some way of opening up. Thanks for watching!
Hi - Turns out that mine has a another hidden zipper in the special section for the laptop. My suitcase is a Delsey Aero - just in case someone is reading the messages on your utube instructions. Thanks again! Great instructions and quick response! I'm impressed!@@StevenParente

So ironic my one wheel disintegrated like that in japan too 😂
Yes, but that’s what they do if you use them a lot, especially if you walk city sidewalks. After two wheels went bad after buying a new suitcase, because the wheels on the old suitcase disintegrated, I thought there had to be a way to replace them😮Thanks for watching!
The actual repair starts @3:00 - you are welcome
Thanks for your commentary and for watching!
Too bad we don't see what he's sawing exactly
??? I wasn't sawing anything, I was using a regular screw driver. Give me a time stamp as to what you saw in the video. Thanks for watching!
@@StevenParente My bad, I'm mixed up with another video.
Ha, Japan destroyed my suitcase wheels too
Yes. 😅. Thanks for watching!
😮
Find your brand model, or brands that look close to yours and are about the same size, and ones that have wheels that look similar to yours. When you find your brand, or a few online suitcases that look similar, search those brands for replacement wheels. This is why people look for shorter videos. You need to get to the point.
