  • I start out with the plan of overland camping with a group but things didn't go as planned. I still had the most amazing four days traveling from Marquette, Big Bay, Thomas Rock, Mouth of the Huron River, Gratiot Lake, Mount Bohemia for a pizza and pool day, Copper Harbor, Freda, Misery Bay, Pike Lake, Bob Lake and then home. I got in lots of driving my Toyota 4Runner, kayaking and tenting.

    The sign on the tree is a government marker marking sections of property. So basically you were at the corner of Hiawatha national forest or the corner of a section used to survey adjacent properties

    Love to watch you do this would never want to do this myself. I like living with tress and nature all around me but I have no desire to walk in the woods. I like it inside my house and being on my porch and yes my sofa is one of my favorite places to be so comfortable.

    I am the girl that cried up at mouth of the Huron. I was the one in the gray FJ. It’s not that I have never been to the UP, it’s just that it was so beautiful there It took my breath away. I go to the UP several times a year, but usually on the east side where I live closer to. Was happy to find your channel tonight. Cheers.

      @@Gypsytrekker I never take for granted the beauty of places I go or where I live. Michigan is an amazing place and sometimes it just touches my soul so deep. I live in lower michigan by the sleeping bear dunes on Lake Michigan. equally as beautiful here. It still makes me cry sometimes when I see a beautiful sunset. I guess im just a really sensitive person lol

    Hey Angela. Another great video. You make it so that I do feel like I am tagging along the trip. You truly excel at that. I agree about smoked salmon and I love smoked trout also. Super yummy and tasty. I was going to ask you if you had a lift kit installed. The tires are definitely not stock. I felt so badly that your hand had swelled like that! Did you ever come to a conclusion as to what happened? One consistent theme in all your videos is your genuine love of being in the outdoors and appreciating and finding the good in everything you experience. We all could learn from you in this regard. Thank you for all your hard work and effort in sharing your experiences with us. As always, please take the very best of care. Bye!

    I swell up just like that when deer flies bite me and they always do U.P. there. Last year I received a bite on my hand and it looked just like that but worse...Looked like I was wearing a boxing glove. Old fashioned Lanacane works best for me on the itching part of it but the swelling lasts for days. Bug repellant works to keep them away but you have to reapply if you're out all day. Don't forget your fishing rod next time!!! ;) Thanks, keep it U.P.

    When I seen the swan I knew you were on highway 16. I have many pictures of the swans there and their young ones. Around the 16th of June every year many hundreds of snapping turtles come out of that swamp and come up on the road to lay their eggs on the edge of it. Enjoyed your trip watch the whole video I'm from the Keweenaw, love our country. Thanks for sharing your trip.

      Wow! That's great to know. I was so surprised to see the swan that I almost drove off the road, it was definitely the highlight of my trip.
      I did see several painted turtles squished on the road and it made me so sad.

    Hi there gypsy trekker. Yea I live on the Wisconsin / Michigan border very close to the slyvania wilderness tract . Don't know if u have ever been there ? It's a mini boundary waters and some awesome backpacking as well. Love backpacking the U P especially the Ottawa national Forest . Soooooooo many incredible places to explore . Don't know if you have heard of pomroy lake ,but it's one of the most beautiful fall colors lakes I have ever seen in the U P. It's in the Ottawa .just east of ironwood. . Also sounds like your looking for a new backpack . Check out osprey Aura an awesome women's 65 liter pack.Totally different suspension system like a trampoline for your back.

    You were probably bitten by a small spider and it can be very painful. CVS and Amazon have a topical benadryl salve that works quite well. Walmart carries a good mosquito repellant that doesn't contain Deet. Can't remember the brand name but it works. After forgetting something every time I camped, I finally made a checklist and keep it in a backpack that I use for camping. As long as I remember the backpack I'm good to go!

    Hi gypsy, I plan on camping in the U.P. this summer (I'm a troll). Where was that pool with the steam room? Was that a Big Erick's campground? There was a really cool campsite I seen last year while visiting my brother in Marquette. Looked like it was on the side of a ski resort and they had mountain biking. I wasn't into camping then I'm returning to check out the mountain bike trails. I think it was on 553. Anyways have you tried the mountain bike trails? Any good? Thanks for the video.

    So did you figure out what the "Bearing tree" stamp/plack was for? Never seen that before.

    • @Gypsytrekker
      @Gypsytrekker  3 роки тому +2

      When I look it up online it says " When a property corner is destroyed or removed, surveyors rely on bearing trees to help determine where the property corner was originally located. If a corner remains intact, a bearing tree also serves as a marker for surveyors to verify that the corner hasn't been moved to a different location. "
      It was such an odd place for it though!

    • @duran48139

      @@Gypsytrekker Interesting. It's like the corner of the property was maybe over taken by the lake? Do you ever camp around the Manistique area at all? Growing up (southern MI) we had friends that owned some cottages that included a bar on Thunder Lake just north of Manistique in the mid 70's. Swore when I grew up I was going to buy the bar with the cabins on the lake and spend my days tending bar and keeping the cabins up while livin the U.P life. Life happens though and I'm still down here lol. But it's a beautiful area, but isn't it all. Keep up the videos, love them. Makes me jealous.
