Hi, You can also make your design around the shape of plexiglass you get. Most come in a rectangle shape. I have seen people make them with out cutting the plexiglass or you can outline the rectangle with LED neon lights as a border. Just throwing some options I have seen. Where to cut and make connections is easiest when you draw it on paper first and look at where it is best to cut and where you maybe dont need to cut and get away with it. To cut a hole through the plexiglass for the wire, you will most likely need a drill depending on your design. Good luck and thanks for watching!

HI, yeah you can cut it anywhere like if you letter ends or just looks better shorter. The light will still light to the end no matter where you cut, BUT if you do not cut on the line, you can not connect that section to another section. It will only light up and not continue past where you cut. Hope this helps, good luck!
What did you do with the acrylic to avoid melting back? Usually with the heat of the saw welds plexi or acrylic back together after cutting ? Do you sand edges ? Whats best advise to get smooth finish ?
Hi, yes sometimes the blade will do that. I use general purpose blades and plexiglass will dull those blades quick. So if you have a dull blade or it was cutting good and then it started to melt back together. The most likely culprit in my experience is just a dull blade? So its not getting a clean cut. A new blade and getting your timing right, not too slow and not too fast will help reduce the chance of it melting back together. Yes I do lightly sand the edges with a sanding sponge. Not a lot but enough to take off any plastic strings that hung on. Best advice for a smooth cut is a brand new blade. I have been working on putting a video together covering the topic of cutting plexiglass. Hopefully I get a chance to do it soon. Hope this helps.
Awesome video. Does the connector that goes from the lights, and connects with the power source included with the power sorce, or did you have to buy it separately?
Hi thanks for watching. It will be different for everyone. I have an inexpensive one but I do not like it. I think the brand is fox. I would suggest looking at Ryobi tools, as I do have a lot of their tools and they work well and are inexpensive. I have not used the Ryobi scroll saw but that may be one you can look up to see if it is something you are looking for. Thanks
Hi, I used a generic blade. So three things can affect the cut causing it to melt. The number one thing is a dull blade, I can probably cut out one sign on a new blade before it becomes dull and starts to melt the plastic. So if the blade you used was not brand new and you tried to cut it, most likely will cause trouble. The other things are pushing the acrylic to fast and the speed of the blade. You can also cut it with a jigsaw that has a plexi-glass cutting blade. They sell those blades at most hardware stores such as Home Depot. Hope this helps and good luck.
I am looking to make a neon sign for my shop window with the color changing neon. In the comments you indicate that it is more difficult with the color changing lights. Can you please explain why? Also do you know of any videos that shows someone using that product? I cannot find one. Thanks in advance for your help
Hi, yes I couldn't find anybody else either making multicolored LED's. I cant explain why because I did not get it to work when i tried and haven't tried since. Not sure what went wrong, could of been the clips I tried, the wiring, etc? sorry
One of the things that gives me the most trouble is a dull blade. It doesn't cut it and just causes it to melt back together. So a new blade is best but they dull quick too. But I have also cut it with a jigsaw and a plexi glass cutting blade from Amazon. Hope this helps!
This was such an awesome video! I would love to learn more on how to do this type of work. Perhaps if you haven't already, maybe make a tutorial like at normal speed. Maybe a series or something? I think I just found my new hobby.
@@MakerDecor Awesome! Thank you very much. I can't wait to check it out during my free time. I subbed and turned on notifications by the way. Also if you haven't opened a shop yet for all these Decor LED Neon Signs, consider doing so! I know I'll definitely buy some (assuming they are reasonably priced maybe $25 - $35). Maybe even add a custom option for ones you haven't made yet and whatnot. Charge $50 for it. I don't know man. I just see so much potential in your content. I hope you have a wonderful day bud!
Hi, I am using just a general blade and it is variable speed. They do have plexi glass blades I believe. But the most important is having a new blade. As they dull fast and cause the plexi glass to become sticky when cutting it.
@@MakerDecor ahh I see. I have a scroll saw similar to yours (not variable speed though) and every time I try to cut plexiglass with it it cracks. I did buy new blades, but I haven't switched them out yet! Maybe that's it.
Hi, this glue with this specific LED light works great. I couldn't pull it off easily for sure after it cured. But I have tried it with other LED lines and it wont hold long. Thanks for watching!
would you mind linking the exact products you used just for this video? i see you linked all the different types of products you use in your description box, i just wanna make sure i have my amazon cart correct so i dont buy things i dont need! this is a great tutorial by the way, by far the best ive seen on youtube!
I’m a little bit confused how you are connecting the tubing through the middle of the sign using the clips? Seems like a challenging angle! I have access to soldering equipment so I’m wondering if that might be the better route, but I’ve only seen videos with laser cutters so I’m glad to know I can just use plexiglass!
What kind of bit are you using to drill the holes in the plexiglass? I have a glowforge (still in the box) and am making a wedding sign for a friend. This method seems it will be easier, but I don’t want to crack my plexiglass. Also, I got some Ryobi tools for Christmas, don’t have that fancy tool you used to cut the outline. What kind of hand tool would you suggest using?
Hi, thanks for watching. But I would definitely take advantage of that glowforge. I'm jealous, lol. Hoping to get a laser cutter soon. I have made a couple of signs and have only cracked it twice I believe from the drilling. Both were still usable and just slight cracks and just takes some slight practice. Both times it cracked were my fault in stopping the drill too soon before drilling completely through. I just used a generic bit You do not need a scroll saw to cut the outline. A simple jigsaw with a plexi glass cutting blade will do it as well. But you do need thick plexi glass as the thinner will crack from the vibrations. The one I used was from Home Depot and I believe .220 thickness. Not the thin one. Hope this helps and good luck with your sign and your laser!! excited for you!
@@MakerDecor thank you so much for your help! Love and appreciate that your videos are to help others learn as well. There aren't too many like you on social media!
Hello. Donde compras todo el material o donde se puede conseguir al igual que la herramienta y muchas gracias por compartir tutoriales ❤ Hola. So where can I get the materials and what’s the names of tools you used. And thank so much for share all this information 😊
but can you explain what you are doing in the time lapse as far as the splicing part to get them to connect or do you have a more in depth video of that?
Hi, thanks for watching. For most of my cuts I just use the all purpose blade. The main trick is to use a new blade. The plexi glass dulls blades fast. So if its not a new blade it can be difficult to get a clean cut. The plastic will melt instead of cut clean and begin to stick back together a lot. Good luck!
where did you get the white jacket electrical wire from and where did you get the plexiglass also :)? i tried the links but didnt see it. Thx in advance!
Hi the electrical wire I got from Amazon. Here is the description below so incase they don't have it you can look for something similar. I'm still not 100% on if I will stick with this wiring but it does work for this application. You can also use door bell wire from Home depot or Lowes, your looking for 20 or 22 gauge wire from what ive read. The plexiglass was from Home Depot, It was like $30 for the size I got. Make sure to get the thicker one, mine was .220 thickness because if you get the thinner one it can be difficult to cut with out cracking. Zarivy 100 Feet 20 Gauge 2 Conductors Red Black Wire with Fire Resistant CL2 White Jacket, 20AWG OFC Hookup Electrical Wire LED Strips Extension Cord Cable for LED Ribbon Lamp Tape Lighting
@@MakerDecor they are out of the white , do you think 18 gage 8AWG Low Voltage LED Cable, 2 Conductor, Outdoor Rated, Jacketed in-Wall Speaker Wire UL/cUL Class 2, Sunlight Resistant (100ft Reel) would work? I see yours is 20 gage. Thanks!!!
@@ajpro777 Hi thanks for reaching out. The thickest I have used was 20 gauge and I had to strip the wire to fit. I would stick closer to 20-24 gauges to make sure the fit in the clips. Unless you find bigger clips than the ones I used. Thanks.
Hi Ben! Thank you for the video! I wanted to make one for my best friend . How thick should the plexiglass / acrylic glass be for me to drill a hole for the wire so that it doesn’t crack. 🙏🏻
Hi, thanks for watching. The thinner the plexiglass the easier to crack. I used .220 size which is almost 1/4 thick from Home Depot. The thinner the drill bit hole the less chance of cracking. Just make sure it is fully flat on a surface or piece of wood so its supported good. Then drill slow with a thin drill bit. I have drilled through a couple of plexiglass and only had one crack. But I just pulled the bit out slowly, put in reverse and went through. The crack was minimal, so I was lucky and I was able to still use it. Good luck!
@@MakerDecor Thank you Ben ! Okay I’ll try to get 0.22 inch plexiglass or thicker! And I’ll surely let you know the result. Thank you again for the tips! ❤
@@MakerDecor makes total sense! I was thinking of making a sign of a double headed eagle outline of the Albanian flag (google search should show you what I'm talking about, for some reason I can't add links to my comment) but I was wondering about the physical logistics of being able to bend the tubing to follow the tracing. How big do you think the sign needs to be to be able to do it? Also don't want to make it too big and spend a ton of money haha
@@zachtochka9815 I saw the image. It is a lot of bending. I would think it would have to be at least 24 in square plexi-glass. That would probably be the smallest I would attempt to make it. The bigger the easier it will be, but cost will go up. And it will take at least two bottles of super glue to make sure it wraps around the corners. The heads will probably the the most difficult part. But if you get it to work it will look really cool! Good luck.

Hi! I know this video was a while ago, but im a new watcher! I wanted to ask, who do you recommend we go to if we do not have that specific cutting tool? Thank you
Hi, thanks for watching. Another option which can be done with some practice is a jigsaw? But the acrylic will have to be thick, the thin acrylic will crack. Hope this helps
@@KIHRUH Yes, the jigsaw can cut various material. But will do better if you get the blade that cuts the material you are cutting. For example they do sell a metal cutting blade, wood blade and also the plexi glass cutting blade. This would help in cutting the plexi glass to have the corresponding blade. It is available on Amazon, Good luck!

Hi, you can use programs such as Photoshop, inkscape, canva, etc. It is different for each one and it usually takes me a lot of trial and error, print and reprint. I dont have an exact method and try different ones till it works out. But when I do get it to work out I save it, lol. I am still just a beginner with those programs and just learn as I go.

It will only light up and not continue past where you cut. Hope this helps, good luck!
Do you have a list of supplies by chance? I’m in Australia so might have to do some research
Hi what is the name of the table saw used to cut the acrylic?
Hi thanks for watching. I used a scroll saw to cut the acrylic. Thank you.
Great video! Where did you get your stencil/font pattern from?
Awesome video. Does the connector that goes from the lights, and connects with the power source included with the power sorce, or did you have to buy it separately?
It should be included when with the lights
@@NickMoises04 got it, thanks
Can we make these neon signs color changing options. What ever color we need we can get in one sign?
I want to get a scroll saw and drill to cut Acrylic sheet for this. Which one shall i get? Not too expensive
Thanks
@@MakerDecor aww that's nice you actually get back to people on your videos x love it. Subscribed!
What kind of blade did you use on the scroll saw? I tried and the acrylic just melted back together
Great video! Can you share where you get the materials from
Hi, thanks. I have the materials at the bottom of the description tab under the video. Thanks
Not sure what went wrong, could of been the clips I tried, the wiring, etc? sorry
Having a hard time cutting the .220 Acrylic. What's the easiest way to cut it?
One of the things that gives me the most trouble is a dull blade. It doesn't cut it and just causes it to melt back together. So a new blade is best but they dull quick too. But I have also cut it with a jigsaw and a plexi glass cutting blade from Amazon. Hope this helps!
If I wanted a neon led that changed color what type should I look for?
Hi, I haven't made one that changes color yet. Sorry, I may have to try that soon.
What kind of acrylic sheet did you use? There isn't one included in your list in the description.
This was such an awesome video! I would love to learn more on how to do this type of work. Perhaps if you haven't already, maybe make a tutorial like at normal speed. Maybe a series or something? I think I just found my new hobby.
Thanks, I do have this video that has it slowed down a bit. ua-cam.com/video/Lii-OCnOELE/v-deo.html
What machine do you use to cut the plexiglass
What kind of glue did you use? Thanks
I have used the thick gorilla glue and I have also used CA glue from Amazon
nice .. what font are you using ??
Hi, what blade are you using on the scroll saw and is the saw one speed or variable speed?
Hi, I am using just a general blade and it is variable speed. They do have plexi glass blades I believe. But the most important is having a new blade. As they dull fast and cause the plexi glass to become sticky when cutting it.
@@MakerDecor ahh I see. I have a scroll saw similar to yours (not variable speed though) and every time I try to cut plexiglass with it it cracks. I did buy new blades, but I haven't switched them out yet! Maybe that's it.
HOW did you Design and Print out That Paper? ( The Outline.)
Amazing video broo thank you.
I will buy my own and I will purchase my items from your bio links
Awesome, appreciate the support!
Hi if I make this neon lights signs can I pour resin on it to cover it????
Which machine do u use to cut Acrylic board?
Could you use acrylic sheets instead of glass, I use a silhouette cameo and I know I can a thin sheet of acrylic in the machine
Sorry I am not sure, but I do not think it would work as the flexibility of the thin acrylic may fold with the weight of the LED wire.
How well does the glue stand.. looks like you can’t bump the sign much. The light looks like it stands tall
Wow! Thank you for sharing, I’ve always wanted to know this…
Thanks for watching!
Hello. Donde compras todo el material o donde se puede conseguir al igual que la herramienta y muchas gracias por compartir tutoriales ❤
Hola. So where can I get the materials and what’s the names of tools you used. And thank so much for share all this information 😊
You arr the best of this 👍👌
Thanks for watching and commenting!
but can you explain what you are doing in the time lapse as far as the splicing part to get them to connect or do you have a more in depth video of that?
Hi, I did one with no time lapse. Good luck ua-cam.com/video/Lii-OCnOELE/v-deo.html
Can I ask what blade you used for your scroll saw ?
Hi, thanks for watching. For most of my cuts I just use the all purpose blade. The main trick is to use a new blade. The plexi glass dulls blades fast. So if its not a new blade it can be difficult to get a clean cut. The plastic will melt instead of cut clean and begin to stick back together a lot. Good luck!
Great video! Love what you made.
Thank you very much!
where did you get the white jacket electrical wire from and where did you get the plexiglass also :)? i tried the links but didnt see it.
@@MakerDecor Thank you 🙏!! And keep up the great work 💯❗️
@@MakerDecor they are out of the white , do you think 18 gage 8AWG Low Voltage LED Cable, 2 Conductor, Outdoor Rated, Jacketed in-Wall Speaker Wire UL/cUL Class 2, Sunlight Resistant (100ft Reel) would work?
Looks great! How did you hang the sign?
Hi thanks for watching. I used command hooks and fishing string.
Good luck.
Another great tutorial. Question though, does neon lights come in changing colours, I can picture the bride to be changing it to white for one event and possibly pink for another event. @
Hi, thanks for watching. I am not sure if they come in changing colors. I know they come in different colors but not sure about changing with a remote. That would be a great idea. I am going to have to look into it for my next build.
Hi I messed up and need to unclip the connectors. Any tips with unclipping please?
hmm, I have done that lol. I use a very small thin flat head screw driver. Really just anything or something thin to pry it open. Hope your project comes out great!
I did it! Thank you so much you’re a star ❤
@@glopuss6314 Awesome, glad I could help!
Hello. I’m thinking of buying one but I live in a college dorm, can you hang these up with command strips ?
Hi, I am not sure I would trust command strips alone to hold this up? You can add some hooks to the back and hang like a picture frame.
@@MakerDecor Oh ok, so a jigsaw can pretty much do the trick for various material? Thank you
@@KIHRUH Yes, the jigsaw can cut various material. But will do better if you get the blade that cuts the material you are cutting. For example they do sell a metal cutting blade, wood blade and also the plexi glass cutting blade. This would help in cutting the plexi glass to have the corresponding blade. It is available on Amazon, Good luck!
WOW! Nice Video!
Thank you very much!
Very nice!
what is that saw you used to cut the acrylic?
Hi, thanks for watching. I used a scroll saw to cut the acrylic.
This is super cool. Thanks for sharing.
Nice work!!! How do you hang it in the backdrop?
Hi, I drill holes through the plexi glass and use fishing string to tie it up. Thanks for watching!
Wooow. Thanks man
Your welcome! Thanks for watching
What kind of Saw is the one you are using?
Hi, to cut the acrylic I used a scroll saw.
What do you test the strips with to see if they work
Hi thanks for watching. I just plug the light into the adapter to see if the new connection works before gluing down. Each time I make a new connection I plug it in to make sure the connection still works.
Oh I see start with the power source side first.
@@ajpro777 Yes👍
What font do you use to make your template?
I wonder if I could just use a jigsaw, as I don't own a coping saw or laser cutter
Definitely easier to let the professionals do it!! ;)
Hi thanks for watching. 👍
Great job. Ty for sharing
Thank you!
Hi there, did you use Alcohol wipes to clean of the residue left by the gorila glue?
Hi, yes I did. It took a while lol. I learned to just use less glue now 😂
Did you find that it’s easier to install if there’s a channel?
Hi thanks for watching. Hmm I have never tried it with a channel but this one was really easy with the super glue. I think as long as you use a stencil and stay close to it. The look will be similar. Thanks.
Appreciate the detailed walk-through. Can you tell me how you created your stencil and tiled across regular paper?
Hi, you can use programs such as Photoshop, inkscape, canva, etc. It is different for each one and it usually takes me a lot of trial and error, print and reprint. I dont have an exact method and try different ones till it works out. But when I do get it to work out I save it, lol. I am still just a beginner with those programs and just learn as I go.
