    I liked that you showed us the reversed part. Some people just do DIYs without showing any mistakes that people commonly run into.

    Thank you so much for this! I've been wanting an 80s food court/mall inspired neon sign set for years and nobody sells anything like it so I was like "fine I'll do it myself" but have no idea how to solder and it scares me, so thank you for this!! I can finally have my squiggly lines and geometric shape lights :)

    Hello there. Thank you for this video and the others! What piece do I need to connect the end of the light to the adapter? I noticed you have a connector of some sort that you attached to adapter but don't see that piece in any of the link. Does it come with the adapter pack you linked? How would I go about connecting the wire on light to the adapter?

    • @MakerDecor
      @MakerDecor  2 роки тому +4

      Hi thanks for watching. When you purchase the LED light it has a small piece on one end of the LED that is the female connection. Then you purchase the Adapter amzn.to/3zlsGKj to the female connection, plug in and it lights up. The LED tubing only comes with the one connection at the end of the line. I believe that is what you are talking about. All you need is the neon tubing which comes with the female connection at the end. Then the adapter which comes with the male connection, and they connect to each other. Hope this helps and please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with!

    • @MakerDecor
      @MakerDecor  3 роки тому +1

      @@dmeeksy Hi thanks for watching. The machine I used to cut the plexiglass was a scroll saw. But I know you can use a couple of things to cut plexi glass. The main thing is the plexi glass cant be too thin. Thin plexiglass can crack easy when cutting due to the strong vibrations of the tools. If you do attempt to cut thin plexiglass cut slow and support it as best as you can. The thickness of this one I cut was .220 and it cut it easy.

      Certainly not with that mindset!
      I'd avoided learning mechanics for years because I was so sure I couldn't do anything besides the most basic maintenance. Learned helplessness, basically.
      Hit a rough patch a couple years ago where I flat couldn't afford a mechanic, but my water pump went out. Had the tools, had just enough for the kit, had no choice but to give it a go.
      I've now replaced the water pump/timing belt, power steering pump, alternator, spark plugs, and did a valve adjustment with nothing but a field service manual, UA-cam videos, and some relevant forum posts. My car runs like a dream again despite being at 268k miles.
      Don't sell yourself short. It's not magic, as mystical as it can seem before you push yourself to start.

    I will definitely be attempting this soon! Been wanting to make one for AGES and this just gave me the motivation I needed. I'm just concerned with how I can cut the plexiglass with no tool and also knowing where to cut and make connections in my design as well as what to use to cut the holes to bring the wires through the back. Hmm 🤔 I need to find a wire that I can change the colors and brightness as well

    • @MakerDecor
      @MakerDecor  2 роки тому +7

      Hi, You can also make your design around the shape of plexiglass you get. Most come in a rectangle shape. I have seen people make them with out cutting the plexiglass or you can outline the rectangle with LED neon lights as a border. Just throwing some options I have seen. Where to cut and make connections is easiest when you draw it on paper first and look at where it is best to cut and where you maybe dont need to cut and get away with it. To cut a hole through the plexiglass for the wire, you will most likely need a drill depending on your design. Good luck and thanks for watching!

    Question tho. I know you need to cut on the black line to connect the connector. But what about the end of the line? Like if I needed to cut it in the middle for the lay out. Does that make sense? Can I cut it in the middle? Or the will mess up the whole line?

    • @MakerDecor
      @MakerDecor  Рік тому +1

      HI, yeah you can cut it anywhere like if you letter ends or just looks better shorter. The light will still light to the end no matter where you cut, BUT if you do not cut on the line, you can not connect that section to another section. It will only light up and not continue past where you cut. Hope this helps, good luck!

    What did you do with the acrylic to avoid melting back? Usually with the heat of the saw welds plexi or acrylic back together after cutting ? Do you sand edges ? Whats best advise to get smooth finish ?

    • @MakerDecor
      @MakerDecor  2 роки тому

      Hi, yes sometimes the blade will do that. I use general purpose blades and plexiglass will dull those blades quick. So if you have a dull blade or it was cutting good and then it started to melt back together. The most likely culprit in my experience is just a dull blade? So its not getting a clean cut. A new blade and getting your timing right, not too slow and not too fast will help reduce the chance of it melting back together. Yes I do lightly sand the edges with a sanding sponge. Not a lot but enough to take off any plastic strings that hung on. Best advice for a smooth cut is a brand new blade. I have been working on putting a video together covering the topic of cutting plexiglass. Hopefully I get a chance to do it soon. Hope this helps.

    What kind of blade did you use on the scroll saw? I tried and the acrylic just melted back together

    • @MakerDecor
      @MakerDecor  Рік тому

      Hi, I used a generic blade. So three things can affect the cut causing it to melt. The number one thing is a dull blade, I can probably cut out one sign on a new blade before it becomes dull and starts to melt the plastic. So if the blade you used was not brand new and you tried to cut it, most likely will cause trouble. The other things are pushing the acrylic to fast and the speed of the blade. You can also cut it with a jigsaw that has a plexi-glass cutting blade. They sell those blades at most hardware stores such as Home Depot. Hope this helps and good luck.

      Hi, I am using just a general blade and it is variable speed. They do have plexi glass blades I believe. But the most important is having a new blade. As they dull fast and cause the plexi glass to become sticky when cutting it.

    What kind of bit are you using to drill the holes in the plexiglass? I have a glowforge (still in the box) and am making a wedding sign for a friend. This method seems it will be easier, but I don’t want to crack my plexiglass. Also, I got some Ryobi tools for Christmas, don’t have that fancy tool you used to cut the outline. What kind of hand tool would you suggest using?

    • @MakerDecor
      @MakerDecor  Рік тому

      Hi, thanks for watching. But I would definitely take advantage of that glowforge. I'm jealous, lol. Hoping to get a laser cutter soon. I have made a couple of signs and have only cracked it twice I believe from the drilling. Both were still usable and just slight cracks and just takes some slight practice. Both times it cracked were my fault in stopping the drill too soon before drilling completely through. I just used a generic bit You do not need a scroll saw to cut the outline. A simple jigsaw with a plexi glass cutting blade will do it as well. But you do need thick plexi glass as the thinner will crack from the vibrations. The one I used was from Home Depot and I believe .220 thickness. Not the thin one. Hope this helps and good luck with your sign and your laser!! excited for you!

    • @MakerDecor
      @MakerDecor  Рік тому

      Hi, thanks for watching. For most of my cuts I just use the all purpose blade. The main trick is to use a new blade. The plexi glass dulls blades fast. So if its not a new blade it can be difficult to get a clean cut. The plastic will melt instead of cut clean and begin to stick back together a lot. Good luck!

      Hi the electrical wire I got from Amazon. Here is the description below so incase they don't have it you can look for something similar. I'm still not 100% on if I will stick with this wiring but it does work for this application. You can also use door bell wire from Home depot or Lowes, your looking for 20 or 22 gauge wire from what ive read. The plexiglass was from Home Depot, It was like $30 for the size I got. Make sure to get the thicker one, mine was .220 thickness because if you get the thinner one it can be difficult to cut with out cracking.

    • @MakerDecor
      @MakerDecor  2 роки тому +2

      Hi, thanks for watching. The thinner the plexiglass the easier to crack. I used .220 size which is almost 1/4 thick from Home Depot. The thinner the drill bit hole the less chance of cracking. Just make sure it is fully flat on a surface or piece of wood so its supported good. Then drill slow with a thin drill bit. I have drilled through a couple of plexiglass and only had one crack. But I just pulled the bit out slowly, put in reverse and went through. The crack was minimal, so I was lucky and I was able to still use it. Good luck!

I was thinking of making a sign of a double headed eagle outline of the Albanian flag (google search should show you what I'm talking about, for some reason I can't add links to my comment) but I was wondering about the physical logistics of being able to bend the tubing to follow the tracing. How big do you think the sign needs to be to be able to do it? Also don't want to make it too big and spend a ton of money haha

    • @MakerDecor
      @MakerDecor  2 роки тому +1

      @@zachtochka9815 I saw the image. It is a lot of bending. I would think it would have to be at least 24 in square plexi-glass. That would probably be the smallest I would attempt to make it. The bigger the easier it will be, but cost will go up. And it will take at least two bottles of super glue to make sure it wraps around the corners. The heads will probably the the most difficult part. But if you get it to work it will look really cool! Good luck.
