to anyone still struggling: invest in reckless deflect LV2, then you can spam L1 to deflect 90 percent of his attacks. once you got time to attack use R2 to lower his green bar. worked for me
A year later and this guide really helped me, the parry felt really unforgiving at the begining so my playstyle leant towards fast-paced uncontrollable dodging instead. Re-invested my points and the parry immediately started to work for me, now I'm just playing it like Sekiro (with claws) and loving it. Almost beat Odur first time back after watching this, he was one hit away! Got him the second time though thankfully 😅
He´s a good fight and teaches you everything you need to know, yes. But I think he is severely overtuned for a first boss and will turn off a lot of players.
MAN THANK YOU! i was really about to drop this game cause i couldn't understeand the deflect windows. I completely missed the ability that allows you to improve that window and after i unlocked it the game is waaaaay more manageble.
Such an amazing game.. I have lost my passion to gaming and tried so many games from different geners but no use .. This game brought me back on track .. GOTY
In my case, The key to Beating Odur, Was rending his plague skill (Miasma) from him in the first phase to use against him and phase through some of his critical attacks and more punishing combos. (Also, An easier method of getting and using miasma over and over without having to rend it from him each time is. To drop 3 skills points into the luck/ chance for plague weapon upgrades to drop. And spend a couple fights just focusing on rending Odur’s plague weapon over and over. Because, You don’t have to beat him, For him to drop the miasma shards. Which then allows you to equip the miasma as your permanent plague weapon. That uses your energy to activate it, Instead of drawing it out of an enemy. You always have a small chance of enemies dropping plague weapon upgrade shards whenever you rend a weapon from them with a charged R2/ predator’s claw. So once you have rend out, I think three shards. You can unlock it for your permanent plague weapon. Which allows you to use miasma to basically speed skate around the arena and phase through or just escape the range of: some of his more punishing attacks.)
I have to say, upgrading the deflect timing really has made a huge difference. Like I still haven't beat Odur yet, but I've only tried 3 times since upgrading that, as prior to it, I couldn't even get him to the 2nd phase, but since I have, I have gotten to the 2nd phase and gotten him down to lmabout half health. just need a few more times to really get the timing down and I'll beat him. Which I wouldn't be anywhere close otherwise.
Hey peeps. Like I said in the video, I haven’t completed the game yet or done any research into it. These might not be the optimum strategies for Thymesia, but they are what helped me out a lot on my first day with it. Hopefully they’ll help some other people out too. Thanks for watching!
Yeah I've beaten most fromsoftware games including Sekiro and Odur is tuned up too high for this early. I imagine them adjusting him in the next patch because everyone just quits at him.
Yeah, he’s really tough. Like I said in the video, he’s the skill check that prepares you for the rest of the game. After finishing it, no other boss took me as long to get. But I reckon all of them would have took waaay longer if I hadn’t had to Git Gud with Odur. Be interesting to see if they do patch him at all or whether that original spike is intended. Thanks for watching!
I struggled for like a good week against him but after I watched this video and read though the comments section here - I beat him right after...man this game is so fun.
Awesome video. May have found a new fan! I love Souls and Soulsborne games but this boss is killing me. I just cannot get the parry down. I beat Sekiro twice too
You’re not alone, Jeff! Seems there are many people stuck on him. It’s difficult to give helpful advice on this game without it sounding completely unhelpful, like “learn the rhythm of his attacks, parry them, then attack him after”, but that is pretty much the best advice. If it helps, I actually count aloud with the attacks to get them ingrained in my memory, then just figure out what the start of each combo looks like. When you start breaking it down like this, it will seem far more manageable. Hope this helps!
@@ThingfishyGaming thanks for the reply. I will say this: I finally beat Odur yesterday and the thing that turned the tide for me was moving talent points into reckless deflect 1 and 2. That saved me during the quick strikes Odur dishes out. Also, I used the hammer plague weapon ever chance I got and that was a big help.
Beat the game with all endings I wish it wasn’t over, but honestly it was easier than Sekiro and bloodborne idk why it just felt super easy for me and I cheesed everything
I do enjoy this game a bit. but I actually HATE the dodge in this game. Not that I am saying it has to be like the souls borne games dodge, but thus dodge barely dodge at all, because of the motion it uses... maybe it's just me buy I feel like it could be a lot better
I still cannot figure out how to dodge his big card throw where he criticals you. It is such BS otherwise I'd have this dude buried easily. Edit: Spam Dodge to the left or right to avoid this big card.
Hey Geezee, yeah I totally get that. I was planning on making some tutorials for the Thymesia bosses, but didn’t end up having time with my Elden Ring content, unfortunately. I made this vid on release day as I was seeing people giving up on the game as they couldn’t beat Odur. So this video was a quick “Don’t give up, he’s the hardest boss in the game!”. Thanks for watching, and hope you’re enjoying Thymesia. It’s a great game!
I just wanted to play a good game. But after a whole afternoon, and different startagies, the first boss is just pure bs. Want to close the distance? He teleports half the arena away, want to stay a bit back? No cant do, he immediately throws sh*t at you and it takes 1/4 of your health. This boss is just difficult for the sake of being difficult. Its a first boss of the game, very poor introduction, it is repulsive for casual and non hardcore players. I'm glad I got to try it through ps+, would be pissed if I'd to buy it. I am not a fan of Ubisoft style, but this game is certainly at the other far end of the spectrum, it seemed fun, too bad.
Why in the world would you play this game as a casual? The only reason i bought it since I got good at Sekiro and love its combat system. So I was looking for a similar game and Thymesia has delivered for me. I also took like only 5 tries with Odur the first boss. He is a fantastic first boss and also easier than Sekiro bosses. Casuals shouldnt play this game. It was made for people who like Sekiro and Bloodborne.
I would say that I was lucky in that I was able to beat him in about 20 attempts, and it would've taken alot longer to beat him if I didn't just play thru Sekiro 3 times in a row. This boss is no joke, and easily the most difficult first boss of any game in this genre.
Ah, sucks that you’re not enjoying it. Couldn’t disagree more though, I didn’t find any combos in the game that couldn’t be stopped by deflecting. The window is super tight though, you have to invest in the Wreckless Deflect skills to make it feel more like Sekiro. Dodging is very similar to Sekiro- useless in most cases. Don’t play it like a souls game or you’ll get hit constantly. Hope you give it another chance. It’s probably my favourite souls like. Thanks for watching.

Many thanks it worked first time
Thanks, I'll try!
Thanks, I can stop swearing now for the next 5 minutes.
This is the only strategy that worked for me. Thanks for sharing!
First try!! Now the deflects actually respond

Thank you so much! After 2 hours of struggle with first boss I found this video and I beat it on second try!
He´s a good fight and teaches you everything you need to know, yes. But I think he is severely overtuned for a first boss and will turn off a lot of players.
They have to nerf his damage and health , one combo from him is 170 damage which is more then half health and he has to much poise

"Delightful lovechild of Bloodborne and Sekiro"
Man, I love this sentence

I was ready to not even look at this game, but this is a meaningful endorsement!
Highly recommend it, GNP. Having a lot of fun with it!
Used this upgraded Reckless Deflect Lvl 2 and Claws, as someone mentioned earlier, and I've beaten this Boss 3rd try. And just stayed very close!
I'm not even souls beginner however Odur is kicking my ass man
Yeah I've beaten most fromsoftware games including Sekiro and Odur is tuned up too high for this early. I imagine them adjusting him in the next patch because everyone just quits at him.
@@iHaveTheDocuments invest skill points into the first row of parry upgrades.
Greatly Improves your parry window & makes the fight much more Fair.

Thank u very mach, the deflect skills very useful
You are truely good! Thank u
I would LOVE to see more Thymesia content from you!

Awesome video. May have found a new fan! I love Souls and Soulsborne games but this boss is killing me. I just cannot get the parry down. I beat Sekiro twice too
Thanks for watching, JP! You’re definitely not alone in finding him tough. Hope you’re making progress!
Id recomend learning the deflect timing and put skills into the damage, it makes it so you only have to hitt claw attacks. The fights become shorter.
Definitely. I ended up putting all my levels into plague. Base health is ok even in the late game. Thanks for watching!
@@ThingfishyGaming id honestly Also rcomend the knife, it can synergise with the deflect and at maks does way more damage than the claw
I have a plague doctor aesthetic itch and it looks like this game is gonna be the one to scratch it
It’s such a fun game. The boss designs are awesome and the combat really is excellent! Thanks for watching, Kokoro!
This fight is making me wish I was never born.
this game is really a welldone game i recommend
Make more of this game!
I am struggling with the parry or deflection. I can’t even get one in
Appreciate the video, but where are the tips for beating Odur? I beat Elden Ring and currently can't get past this dude.

I have started this game and can agree the first boss is difficult but definately not impossible. Hoping to platinum this one
man no matter what I do am getting killed quick I quit

Hours leveling up, 30 tries, every set up tested with skills, nothing. Deleted the game. A waste of my money. Next!
Ah that sucks, man. Sorry you didn’t enjoy it. Out of interest, what Soulsbornekiro experience do you have?
I still cannot figure out how to dodge his big card throw where he criticals you. It is such BS otherwise I'd have this dude buried easily. Edit: Spam Dodge to the left or right to avoid this big card.
As soon as you see the coin toss finish. Spam L2. The first one will miss, but the second will hit him every time. Thanks for watching!
He is toughest first souls boss I've seen. Lost to him for 2hrs. Ridiculous having to parry him 500x's for 15 minutes. Might delete the game.
Good video..subd
Thanks for watching!
Bro telling me 1st boss is extremely tough and not telling me how to defeat him is very non helpful

This game is trash. Deflect is useless. Doesn't actually stop combos. Dodging is useless due to enemy tracking.
