The game was pretty good once you got into the rhythm as you said. The storyline wasn't too deep and I wish they'd crafted a deeper story as there is so much more they could tell. Hopefully to they'll add more story in a dlc down the road if the game sells well enough.
When you said it was written by a friend of yours I was worried this would be more forgiving of a review. I love that you were still honest about the things you didn’t like as much.
It was about $24 today so I did a quick UA-cam check and got it. I'm always happy to support smaller developers as its seems they are the only ones still making games out of love, and not greed. Usually always creative, charming, and best of all fun.
Thanks for the advice. I did end ul buying it. Full price. Worth it for me. Bloodborne left such a hole, and after ng+twentysomething it is just not the same anymore. This feels fast and compelling but it does hold your hand. It is easier than the souls formula for sure. Idk. Souls has something beyond dificulty. It is not that ghostrunner is easy but it is no souls. This is not souls either. But it is something of a refreshing taste. You can see where they cut corners, but in my oppinion it is worth it. Remember code vein. What that was hyped up to be. This is way better. And remember scarlet nexus. What that was made out to be. Yeah. This is better for sure. But it is cut from the same cloth. Narrow paths to walk and not much to explore. Yet there are a few times to realy think about how you got there. The stealing mechanic also just feels right. The story is not as flat as you guys say imo. I dig it. But the world is kind of weird for sure. To me it is worth it. But i can see it falling flat for many people. To me they cut just the right parts. I would rather have great gameplay then voice acting, however a little more i wouldn't mind.
Not sure if code vein & scarlet nexus or God eater for that matter count as souls like since they are classic JRPG mechanics but not souls games so comparison to those might be a bit off.
@@TruTrae it was a prequel/spinoff to God eater games with soulslike elements but wouldn't call that a soulslike game as God eater games arent soulslike. And soulslike mech are just older JRPG mech so not really a new genre all in all but that's just me.

Thanks for covering this game 🔥🔥
@@ohffsreally yes I would still recommend. You don't need to parry anything in this game like Sekiro actually and can change it to a simple block that negates alot of damage & with some proper dodging you can get through the game fairly well. I never once used the parry mechanic to beat the game.
@@ohffsreally No problem I hope you enjoy the game! It's definitely one of my favorites in the Soulsborne genre now. The combat feels so great once it all clicks together.
I don’t like how there isn’t any armor or weapons you can use like in the souls series fashion souls is a big part of soulsborne games not the only part but is a big thing and wish they would have added that to this game
@@subarashiikylox you can use everyone's weapons if you reave them and get the plague weapon, either temporarily or permanent if they drop enough shards to unlock it. The fashion side of it you have a point, but on the other hand it is what made Wolf the most compelling main character in their series of games, it was the same character for all of us so they had a base to work on without us building out own and doing head canon backgrounds for them
Can't believe I'm this early, but this one's been on my watch for a while. Probably gonna give it a go. Thanks for the vid, and love all the content you guys put out! We know you work hard and it's appreciated!!
The combat looks kinda interesting, but this game has no identity. The presentation looks damn near exactly like Bloodbourne and Elden Ring. Maybe when they make some more games in the future they can add more uniqueness to their world.
I gotta say that I really like the small change in recent videos, where there are pauses with just gameplay occasionally throughout, rather than just at the end.
I bought it cos PS+ gave me a decent discount. I'm really liking it so far. It seems like Soulslite. No stamina bar is great and the combat feels amazing. I can see how it maybe shouldn't overstay its welcome, but I appreciate that. I'm going to knock it out and I'm having fun, that's all that matters.
Currently „Lost in Random“ is pretty cheap in the Playstation store. This Game is actually awesome. It’s like Alice: Madness returns Mixed with Little nightmares and nightmare before christmas. It is a great little Game , with a Ton of „personality“. Just beautiful. And the fighting System is quite unique because of it’s „Cards-System“
I actually just downloaded this game last night and really liked it. I'm trying to play more challenging RPGs since playing Elden Ring, and before playing other Soulborne games and this game is scratching that itch.
I'm so/so with it. The fighting mechanics seem cheap sometimes, it's VERY linear, and I get lag for about 5 seconds after an area loads up. It looks great though, and it plays fluid for the most part. It's "ok"....
@@illthoughts never played code vein. My comparison would lean more towards Bloodborne/Sekiro, and it sucks most these games, we just naturally compare to 'from software' titles, but I say go for it.
This review was very well made, I hope it's not accidental or anything because I'd like to see them take this approach more, the audio quality and background sounds were perfect, correct clips were chosen and the video just straight up was engaging.
Makes me super happy when gamers mention "Nioh" as a comparison for great mechanics. My absolutely favorite souls like when it comes to bare fighting mechanics.
I wish they added more effort In the game to make it deeper and richer gameplay with solid story longer gameplay ,bigger world and more mob and bosses variety
I had the opportunity to write a review of it for a site here in Brazil and to be the second person in the world to platinum it. Not the first. But the second. It still counts.
Damn! This game looks fire 🔥🔥 ... Has a Bloodborne look to it.. which I still haven't played still waiting on a PC port... But I'll take what I can get 😋
I really enjoy this game. The combat is forgiving, but hard at the same time. I am currently facing Odur. For an indie Developer they did an excellent job. I also, like how there isn't a stamina bar makes it much easier for me. I love the From software games, but suck. This game is difficult, but I have never been happier when defeating a mini boss or unlocking a new Plague Attack. This game I would highly recommend not only for those who struggle with Souls and Borne type games, but for those that also love those genres. The $30 price tag is perfect for this game. No, complaints from me.
I played the demo a while ago, and every aspect was rough for me. It has potential, but I feel like this game would have been better as a Devil May Cry clone. You really need tighter controls to be a Souls game.
The tutorial level was rough, but the game gets way better when you unlock some talents that allow for more effective dodges etc. I would say for the 20 bucks it's absolutely worth it, and the combat feels very nice
Honestly, even at a budget price, I'd recommend waiting for it to go down. It was fun, but not really a lot of replayablity there. And just sort of okay all around. It's not a bad game, but not much more than just good.
Every once in awhile Jake showcases a game where his attempt at positive feedback makes the game sound bad and negatives are worse. This game looked bad, and with this showcase it seems even worse. Why play a knockoff of BB and Sekiro when they exist today.
As someone who’s seen reviews of this game prior to it dropping and oddly getting a “before you buy” gonna hard pass on this, even the gameplay showed here looks mediocre at best 💀.
Literally only took a chance on this game because you said a gameranx homie was in the development team. Graphics are super clean and as you stated the combat system def got a lot of work put in, I really like dash movement that’s was implemented in this game over the roll movement mechanics found in other traditional souls style games. But never would of even of taken a chance on this game had you not mentioned a Gameranx guy helped make it. Keep up the good content and I’ll continue to watch daily.
Yeah this doesn't seem to be great. Good, especially considering the size of the development team but not great of a game still. The combat just feels off. The weightiness, responsiveness, animations need a hell of a lot more work to feel good in hands. Bosses are a joke as they just end up being more of a dps test since they just run off and heal while you're just tailing and attacking. Good effort nonetheless though.
When you said it was Co written by a colleague I was expecting sugar coating. Really makes me trust your other reviews since you were so honest on this one
hi! I recently discovered Thymesia and I'm really loving it. there's not a single thing I would fault, absolutely fantasic and voila it's free on PS Plus. can't complain!
Didn't like this too much, the combat specifically. You are incentivised to be aggressive but with no rally system like Bloodborne it's to your detriment. Parrying feels off too, and you aren't given any frame advantage or riposte for successfully pulling it off. Dodging seems to be the way to go for the most part, but this is counterintuitive to wound system since you want to be aggressive. It just didn't gel well for me in the end.
I'm really enjoying it so far, but I don't get what's next gen about this game. They could've easily made a last gen version of it. There's no voice acting, no HDR, no haptics and adaptive trigger support on PS5 and maybe it's me, but there isn't even standard vibration on the controller. But the most important thing, the combat, is pretty entertaining. I would recommend to give it a try

Definitely getting this one. Just working my way through DS3 before I hit this one up. Great video as always Gameranx!
Ahhh the days of pumping in over 2k hours into ds3 ❤
Thanks for watching
Been watching these for years. Cooking, taking a shower, about to go to bed, literally for just about any occasion. Even if I don’t know the game lol. Thanks for these reviews Jake. I appreciate them
The game was pretty good once you got into the rhythm as you said. The storyline wasn't too deep and I wish they'd crafted a deeper story as there is so much more they could tell. Hopefully to they'll add more story in a dlc down the road if the game sells well enough.
Is it possible to max out your stats/skill tree?
The green-dominated color scheme is pretty badass, with the red contrasts... great visual design.
When you said it was written by a friend of yours I was worried this would be more forgiving of a review. I love that you were still honest about the things you didn’t like as much.
Another day another great video from Gameranx! Thanks Uncle Jake and the entire Gameranx team. Always look forward to watching your videos.
Thanks for your support
It was about $24 today so I did a quick UA-cam check and got it. I'm always happy to support smaller developers as its seems they are the only ones still making games out of love, and not greed. Usually always creative, charming, and best of all fun.
I can always count on yall when it comes to new game reviews without getting spoilers 🔥💪🏼
Nice review, got what I needed. Thanks
Not sure if code vein & scarlet nexus or God eater for that matter count as souls like since they are classic JRPG mechanics but not souls games so comparison to those might be a bit off.
@@ak-ub1ym Code Vein was definitely inspired by the souls games but he lost me with the Scarlet Nexus comparison.
@@TruTrae it was a prequel/spinoff to God eater games with soulslike elements but wouldn't call that a soulslike game as God eater games arent soulslike. And soulslike mech are just older JRPG mech so not really a new genre all in all but that's just me.
This looks great. Also hoping there will be a Mortal Shell again at some point, this time a full-blown longer game. Absolutely loved Mortal Shell.
Had no idea this game existed and just got an advertisement for it which looked really cool, I don’t know if I’ll get the game but whoever worked on the menus did a good job at making them look good green and black just *chefs kiss*
I think it's a great game for a indie studio. Hopefully they will add on to it if it sells enough. I would definitely buy dlc for it
Just got the game and it’s insane great combat am in love with it already
Purchased this game at midnight & played until I was too tired and overslept lol yes this game is awesome & I'm really glad to have another pretty good soulslike game added to the genre. Dolmen was a huge letdown but this game with its Bloodborne-esqe aethestic & slick combat systems with a dash of Sekiro-lite parrying really is something to be appreciated imo. Thanks for covering this game 🔥🔥
Thanks for your comment. I'm going to get it soon.
Sadly Sekiro is the only FS game I didn't enjoy (not a fan of rhythm games in general) -- would you still recommend it?
@@ohffsreally yes I would still recommend. You don't need to parry anything in this game like Sekiro actually and can change it to a simple block that negates alot of damage & with some proper dodging you can get through the game fairly well. I never once used the parry mechanic to beat the game.
@@sikevillain Sweet! Dodging is where I shine, so glad to hear I'll have a shot :) Thanks!
@@ohffsreally No problem I hope you enjoy the game! It's definitely one of my favorites in the Soulsborne genre now. The combat feels so great once it all clicks together.
Proof that what Fromsoft does isn’t so easy to just copy and paste. That said, I’ll be checking this out
I don’t like how there isn’t any armor or weapons you can use like in the souls series fashion souls is a big part of soulsborne games not the only part but is a big thing and wish they would have added that to this game
yea im that type of guy who likes to kill a boss and use his weapon or abilities i think no one really dislikes that it needs more weapon variety
It's a cheapy indie game, tf you expect? Lmao
@@subarashiikylox you can use everyone's weapons if you reave them and get the plague weapon, either temporarily or permanent if they drop enough shards to unlock it. The fashion side of it you have a point, but on the other hand it is what made Wolf the most compelling main character in their series of games, it was the same character for all of us so they had a base to work on without us building out own and doing head canon backgrounds for them
I bought it yesterday and i'm loving it!!
Love the videos keep pumping them out!!!!
Will do thanks
$23 club!!
Its literally like sekiro and a little bit of elden ring with the ashes of war.
@@winterwolf343 I felt like Sekiro was more punishing, but maybe I'm just better at these kinds of games now.
I’m grateful that you guys post every day. For real. Love your Friday videos🤘
❤️
Currently „Lost in Random“ is pretty cheap in the Playstation store. This Game is actually awesome. It’s like Alice: Madness returns Mixed with Little nightmares and nightmare before christmas. It is a great little Game , with a Ton of „personality“. Just beautiful. And the fighting System is quite unique because of it’s „Cards-System“
That game deserves more attention, honestly.
RANDOM RULES
@@DanteSuper95 absolutely. I am playing this since a few days. My favorite character is easily Manny Dex
Agree...it's a fantastic game
Game looks super rad, and I'm definitely into everything you mentioned, especially the Alice games. Thanks for mentioning it!
Also on Game Pass, thanks for remind me on this game.
woo i heard about this game earlier today (before this video) and was hoping you guys would do a before you buy :)
👀
Great review as usual! Btw how is Falcon doing?
I actually just downloaded this game last night and really liked it. I'm trying to play more challenging RPGs since playing Elden Ring, and before playing other Soulborne games and this game is scratching that itch.
Always like this series, even if I am not gonna buy it.
So a game totally set in Blight Town, cool got it.
I'm so/so with it. The fighting mechanics seem cheap sometimes, it's VERY linear, and I get lag for about 5 seconds after an area loads up. It looks great though, and it plays fluid for the most part. It's "ok"....
Is it better than code vein?
@@illthoughts never played code vein. My comparison would lean more towards Bloodborne/Sekiro, and it sucks most these games, we just naturally compare to 'from software' titles, but I say go for it.
Saved me 30$
@@Certified_souls_player I think it’s definitely worth it, I think some people just prefer really deep combat systems
Something about the game feels very angular and snappy, maybe how the camera works?
This review was very well made, I hope it's not accidental or anything because I'd like to see them take this approach more, the audio quality and background sounds were perfect, correct clips were chosen and the video just straight up was engaging.
Makes me super happy when gamers mention "Nioh" as a comparison for great mechanics.
My absolutely favorite souls like when it comes to bare fighting mechanics.
Same here :)
It's not a souls, but it is a souls-like. Was made by a different company by different people.
@@GrubKiller436 That's what I said "souls like", just missed out on the hyphen.
Ah you right.
Why have I not heard of this before now? I'm just starting Code Vein this weekend. Guess I gotta pick this one up now too!
I love this channel. Never failed to amazed me.
I wish they added more effort In the game to make it deeper and richer gameplay with solid story longer gameplay ,bigger world and more mob and bosses variety
u guys always keep it interesting love u guys
❤️
I know this isn’t a huge title so I’m really happy you guys made a before you buy for this game!!!!
I'm a simple guy, I see that a new game with really nice graphics and setting is Soulslike I throw in the trash.
This game has so much potential if they waited two years got some awesome writers involved this would love been crazy amazing this is our bb2 😢
I actually like the environment design visually, but it does seem a bit simple from a level design standpoint.
Well, the game is pretty cheap compared to Elden Ring when it first came out
@@wjr6744 Yeah but Elden Ring also has a ton more content
@@wjr6744 Well this is half the price.
I had the opportunity to write a review of it for a site here in Brazil and to be the second person in the world to platinum it. Not the first. But the second. It still counts.
Was literally looking for this video 3 mins ago and then it came out😂
👀
@@gameranxTV you guys are my fav 👍🏻 always consult Gameranx before I buy anything!
After playing LoP and LoTF back to back I'm now addicted to Souls games and now I'm looking for my next fix hopefully this is it lol
Damn! This game looks fire 🔥🔥 ... Has a Bloodborne look to it.. which I still haven't played still waiting on a PC port... But I'll take what I can get 😋
Bloodboarne is fav of all time hopefully this game quenches my thirst for bloodboarne 2, definitely excited to get my hands on this game.
I really suggest 'Bloodborne' instead of playing the Chinese knock-off, "Bloodboarne"
Shout out to Eric behind the scenes 👏
With how dry game releases have been this month, the timing for this release is perfect.
Here because it's free on PS+, Imma give it a try. It looks really fun like Wo Long.
I would say for the 20 bucks it's absolutely worth it, and the combat feels very nice
i have been playing and beat the second boss, so far i am enjoying it .
👍🏼
Bloodhound’s Step: The Video Game
So essentially this is a well made and well priced, indie Souls-like. Sounds like a buy to me.
Honestly, even at a budget price, I'd recommend waiting for it to go down. It was fun, but not really a lot of replayablity there. And just sort of okay all around. It's not a bad game, but not much more than just good.
@@RagnarokMic I'm not a sucker for replayability and I don't like a game that overstates its welcome.
Boy, that "Beacon Found" screen. They're definitely not hiding their influences.
Feels like it should be $10 including tax.
This wasn't on my radar but it is now!!
Every once in awhile Jake showcases a game where his attempt at positive feedback makes the game sound bad and negatives are worse.
This game looked bad, and with this showcase it seems even worse. Why play a knockoff of BB and Sekiro when they exist today.
It did take me a while to get into thymesia, but once I did, I loved the gameplay, the music, the atmosphere-it’s a very simple game, but I like it.
It looks like a good weekend game. Also tomorrow starts the weekend lol
It's about thyme.
I played it and liking it….good game till now❤️❤️
Going to pick this up. Something to play until the Saint's Row reboot comes out.
As someone who’s seen reviews of this game prior to it dropping and oddly getting a “before you buy” gonna hard pass on this, even the gameplay showed here looks mediocre at best 💀.
Thanks for the review...will be checking this one out
Who else is waiting for Lies Of P?
It sounds like the Greek word THI-MI-SOY that means remember
hi! I recently discovered Thymesia and I'm really loving it. there's not a single thing I would fault, absolutely fantasic and voila it's free on PS Plus. can't complain!
Soulsborne fans are here
We never left ;)
Hey how did you know that
Who tf plays this game
Rise up!!
I waited so long for it, and it came out
I ordered mine off Amazon cause it finally came back in stock
Didn't like this too much, the combat specifically. You are incentivised to be aggressive but with no rally system like Bloodborne it's to your detriment. Parrying feels off too, and you aren't given any frame advantage or riposte for successfully pulling it off. Dodging seems to be the way to go for the most part, but this is counterintuitive to wound system since you want to be aggressive. It just didn't gel well for me in the end.
Glad this popped up on my Instagram feed. I saw it a while ago but couldn't remember the name.
Nope, thanks for saving me a ton of time.
I like u see how the enemies prepare to do a attack. In ac valhalla, the animals just plain drift around crazily fast.
Oh boy another souls like. I miss when people tried making unique games
Every BYB gets better and better! Shout out to the whole Gameranx team!
Who I'm the fucking right mind plays these CRINGE ASS games?????? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Why comment that
@@Gjd94 why play shitty fromsoftware games the world may never know
This game is fantastic, and if you love Bloodborne and/or Sekiro this is a must play
