Literally learnt so much more from this video than my whole 3 years at uni. I feel so sad that this is all I wanted to know. I used to ask “but how do I make a mood board, how do I get there?!” And this video has explained it to me in less than a few minutes. So greatful, thank you!
I'm so glad I came across this video. Uh oh - I'm on a Justine binge today! Love it! I'm not a designer nor am I an artist, but a while back I was cruising on Pinterest and came across so many images I loved, I created a folder and named it "Makes Me Feel..." I never considered creating a wardrobe around how I want to feel, but I like the idea now!
I love how you portrayed the fragile, rusty, and broken look from this moodboard, especially the quote: "Things can be repaired but they will remain fragile", the sentence inspired me to write a song lyric about the fear, trust issues, and vulnerability in love life :D. It's actually very woman and for me, it was kinda reflecting how women survive through the civilization until today. Very awe-inspiring and empowering at the same time.
OMG Justine! Yet another parallel to the music world! In songwriting we use something called word circles when jotting down as many thoughts pertaining to a specifice idea as possible. The pages look just like your pages, with primary ideas in the circle and then surrounded by everything else that comes to mind around the particular word in that circle. So cool! I love this!
Thank you soooo much!!! you are the first person that has clearly and explained how to make a mood board in a step by step practical way it's always this theoretical confusion lol! I am already dreamy and dyslexic so I need practical explanation to understand I am in Art school and nobody can ever explain it in a practical way! so helpful! Your the best, thanks!
Dear Leconte, Thank you very much upload some nice video for fashion designer who learn about it . i want to know some information from you like as how could i learn like you about fashion. what basics things need to learn for fashion designer ? now i am studying Masters of Science in fashion Design in BUFT in Bangladesh. i am really inspired from you ...... thank you very much and danke.
I would absolutely love to see the full process, up to the garments that resulted. Particularly the way you go from moodboard to garment design; I think it is surely quite interesting.
Hi, Justine! I really liked this video! I have a question about one of the parts in the video, though. When you did research on the corset (@4:36) did you jot down the materials or the structure of how you made it on the paper on the left side where you drew the corsets? Also, after the research on the corsets, did you get swatches of fabric to put in the moodboard or sketchbook? I'm new to this and I ask so that it'll be easier for me to start researching myself (I want to learn more about fashion)....
Hi, I guess the process isn't linear. It depends on the way your brain works. In the case of my corset, I think I have been swatching fabrics very early, and editing while I was creating the moodboard, to keep only the swatches that fit. You can see what happens next in my video "from moodboard to clothes", it is on my channel. Happy researching!
I've been having trouble with the whole process to create a mood board, but this is extremely concise and clear. Thank you so much for making this process not as intimidating as it seems.
+Ee earn a moodboard is one "image" while a storyboard displays a story i.e. a succession of events happening between characters. Used e.g. for a movie or for comics.
i think moodboard mainly focusing on the ambience and impressions of the art whereas storyboard more on the interwoven relationship between the characters, the plot, the backgrounds, and the messages carried behind it. I think it is creative to combine both moodboard and storyboard in fashion runway concept, like Alexander Mcqueen 2001 fashion show or else so the models themselves can express and perform their given roles and give life to the outfits.
Can you please clearly tell me about theme board of a design process. I mean how to make a theme board through out form mind mapping? For example I have taken translucent effect and sharp edges of Crystal as my Inspiration, then nex how to make theme board on it?❓❓❓❓❓
Hi Justine Leconte , thank you so much for explaining how to make mood board, can you also please share the design process starting from inspiration to specification sheet.
Hello Justine. Would you mind if I emailed you. I have some questions since I never went fashion design school I am applying to Design colleges soon. For the mood board would a drawing book be just find or does fashion design require marker paper?
Hi there! No, a drawing book doesn't do the job of a moodboard. It contains "all" your thought, while a moodboard also edits and steams down your opinion into one page. A moodboard requires you to make choices and demonstrates your ability to express your idea clearly. Go for the moodboard if they want a moodboard! Good luck :-)
isnt this more like an inspiration board than a mood board? i didnt find the corset conveying any mood other than showing its part of your inspiration.
First of all thanks mam,ur all videos r vry helpful nd interesting, but I hve one quesn, actually I firstly did mind mapping nd from the final 5-6 words ,I came out with 3 themes, one of them I work on first is realistic,bt I find myself week or need someone help, can u plz help me to understand how can I work on that n complete my all process?
Hi Justine, thank you so much for the inspirational video. I now fully understand the process from sketchbook to Mood Board as per our Assignment at the Australian Academy of Fashion Design. Please let me see your garment created from your Mood Board for further inspiration.Mine will take on the 4 Elements of Nature which will be totally different tectures, colours etc.
I love vintage anything looks used, old wear etc patina...should I punch these keywords on Pinterest too ...thanks great video ...any books you recommend on fashion inspiration and sketching the male body?
thank you so much.. its really helpful... can u make next video in which you tell about complete process of making fashion portrait, from theme , inspiration, mood board, client board upto end product?
hi justine..hope u doing excellent in your business..really like this nd will follow yr video &pages in future .can u please come up with how to work on product developments for bags thanks
Wow. Thank you. I saw this for the first time. Quite new to this concept. Please I'd love to see video of the garments you made from the mood board. Thank you.
I'm only a year and a half late on this :). I'm not a fashion designer, nor can I say that I aspire to be (though I do love to 'create' garments in my mind), but this whole process is so fascinating. I really want to look for ways to incorporate it into my life somehow (I'm a writer and I love creating all sorts of things). Thank you so much for this video! xoxo
What a great tutor you are! Justine, I'll be applying to Parsons in less than a year and I just realised that only my sketches are not enough for their portfolio requirements! I'm daunted by the task of finishing a full portfolio in about 10 months but I'm gonna try my hardest. Could you give me any tips and direct examples of stuff they might be looking for in the portfolio?
hello~! thanks for helpful video. The fabric at 3:33 looks so amazing!I can understand you use heat to translate polyester to make that look but I don't know what kind of tool did you use it for.It would be really helpful if you give me any hint for this~
+Lee Tiffany Bonjour!
Hi Justine one more question! Apologies I am very new to photoshop..... do you have a video that explains how you put your images together for your mood board on photoship? Your blurred edges are so lovely and I have watched tutorial after tutorial that doesn't do near as good of a job! Thank you again!!
+F Dionn uuuuiii... I looked into my file again and in fact, I think I did it in Illustrator (sorry!) which is also part of Adobe Creative Cloud and the technique is easier than with Photoshop: Effect > Stylise > Feather. And then I probably chose 7-10 pixels. Repeat for each element on the board and all your edges will be blended. Good luck!
Thank you!!! Yes I have been playing around with the feathering on photoshop for days and I am not satisfied. Shall try Illustrator. Thanks Justine for taking the time to answer my question! :)

Hi mam
Hi mam
Justine Leconte officiel can I see the outfits you created out of this mood board? Thank you
"It's Pinterest time!" found this really interesting.
Hehehe... Thanks!
Literally learnt so much more from this video than my whole 3 years at uni. I feel so sad that this is all I wanted to know. I used to ask “but how do I make a mood board, how do I get there?!” And this video has explained it to me in less than a few minutes. So greatful, thank you!
You're welcome 😊
I definitely want to see the garments you created with a mood board.
