I've always loved Morgan's dedication to the classic body lines. Beautiful motor car. I wouldn't have noticed the chassis flex had you not mentioned it. You can see the flex in the side shots at the door lines.

I've driven a couple of Morgan+8's and it's a total buzz!! Like driving a go cart with a V8 in it. The +8 has long been my favorite British car, a real thrill to drive. A true drivers car , you've got to manhandle it especially at speed.

Hit the nostalgia button hard! A buddy and I made a pre-uni road trip from Victoria, BC to San Francisco and back in his Morgan 4/4 nearly 60 years ago, returning through Nevada and Idaho. We had to run the heater most of the return leg to keep it from boiling out the coolant, but great fun.

brings tears to my eyes, bought a new 1962 ($2700) at the Cleveland Rolls dealer, 2.2 triumph engine, jag gearbox, sold it after a short time, I was only 20, drove it from Ohio to NC never below 100 mph, why so fast?, it rode so rough and felt smooth only at 100+, they used to say you knew if the dime in road you just drove over was heads or tails. Am now way too old, but back then, everyone, even 356's, looked and waved.

It`s sad man. my dad had to sell his 74` in 2004:( i was born in 85. 3 days ago he came up with a 76`+8 . the smell, the looks, just about everything was so familiar. He took me for a ride. driving down the street we had stars in our eyes shining so bright you just can`t imagine. hopefully we make it with my son/daughter in the "back" one day....

It was early fall, 1972. I had just started working at the "downtown" Sears & Roebuck store in Portland Oregon... 92 cents per hour, part time. I was still in highschool, just starting my senior year. I was 17 and I wanted to be "cool". When I got off the bus one warm afternoon, just before it was time to go to work, I saw a 1966 Morgan on a used car lot that specialized in nice muscle cars and sports cars. They wanted $2000 for that car.
Well, I fell in love! I just had to have that car, but how? Well I knew! I walked into the Sears Credit Union across the street and finally someone asked if they could help me. I said that I wanted to buy a car and needed a loan. The loan officer came out and I explained who I was. I said that I was new at Sears and that I wanted to buy that 1966 Morgan across the street. All of a sudden, the entire room erupted in laughter! They just couldn't believe that I had the audacity to ask for a $2000 loan! I only made 92 cents per hour, after all! How was I going to pay the loan back?
I was so embarrassed I literally ran out the door, collected my composure and went to work. I couldn't believe that they could laugh so hard about a young kid who wanted to buy a car!

These have been a mainstay on the UK club race scene for decades, with tuning options for the Rover V8 taking it up to 5 litres, some serious monsters have been made. People think of them as old man's cars but you forget that they were pretty fast cars even from standard.

My all time dream is to own a Morgan someday. I would love a +8. Actually, I would love any Morgan. Those 3-Wheel Morgan's are awesome. And the new ones being made are selling incredibly fast. The wait list is up to a year or more. "ACE" Cycle Car company up in Washington State is also producing a 3-Wheeler that is authorized by Morgan although sold as an "ACE" and has a few really cool touches that puts their signature on the car. Maybe in 5 years when I can retire? I dream on....

RupertFear keep on top of your oil changes and the wear is okay. Lots of Rover SD1 examples with the V8 have run over 200.000 miles without rebuilt. Just change oil every year or 5000kilometers

there's gotta be somebody in the uk making new blocks or something... I was born in seattle but my father's family are all from the uk and all car guys, they just love that motor, ive never seen but a couple-- in a very stout land rover most memorably that was a total hotrod, as were the other cars ive seen with that engine. it is hard to convey to americans how important this motor was to british hotrodders, I mean how many small-block chevys are there here? there was only one for England and that was the rover v8. they are rare indeed. there are probably as many on garage floors as there are in cars because if I was building a british hotrod in Britain I would go and find one of these engines first and THEN find a car to put it in. they are rare and indeed essentially the only motor of its type, certainly any good, and as easy to build. it is a shame that they don't make it any more... but don't they? theres GOTTA be somebody making new blocks.

They also had that motor in the Triumph TR-8, although sadly detuned. In the late ‘60s, I was tooling along an LA freeway in my Morgan 4/4 and swinging my left arm when I realized that I was touching the rear wheel. I was instantly glad that I didn’t have wire wheels as it could have either ripped a finger off or just pulled me out of the car, LOL!

When you were in the garage I noticed in the background my all time favorite car, a beautiful MG TD with the standard steel wheels, are you going to have a video about that car soon? The 215 was one hell of a motor. Small, light, and you could easily get over 350 HP with parts from Oldsmobile back in the early days (mid '60s up to the early '70s). I would expect that today you could easily get 450. It late became the basis for the V8 found in the Brabham F1 car that won the 1966 F1 Championship, and was also used by British Leyland in a variety of cars. It could be stretched to over 300 CI in later versions. Later cast iron block versions could be stretched to over 350 CI.

i must say i truly admire Jay's approach to his vehicles. Cars are meant to be driven why not drive them ? its far too common to see vehicles in their museum cages and collections just wasting away. don't get me wrong there's nothing wrong with caring for and preserving vehicles but to what end preserve something that would never be driven? thus why i like jays approach.

Morgan is the oldest privately-owned car manufacturer in the world. It was originally entirely family-owned, but now has several select individuals who have private shares in the company. It's not listed on any stock exchange.
They have made the +8 since 1968. The Rover 3.5 litre V8's block was used by Australian F1 racing genius, Jack Brabham in 3 litre form to win the 1966 Gran Prix against competitors like Ferrari.
