    That Kennedy /Gerstner style chest at the end, and its contents were well worth the video, on their own. I did really like that Millers Falls No. 7, however. I probably can't afford it

      The toolchest was definitely a really cool find. I’m just glad it had some good stuff in it - I was initially concerned that maybe I had overbid on it.
      I think the MF No22 (no7 size) is maybe going to Illinois. Such a clean plane, especially for its age

    You kept calling it a machinist's box even though from the moment you showed the top section, I suspected it was a patternmaker's box because of the trammels, the surface gauge, the router plane, and what looks like the head to a panel gauge. The pinch dogs were another clue. Bent shank chisels and gouges, another clue. I could go on and some could argue that these are all tools common in one way or another to general woodworking, but the cinch was the fillet irons. The "miniature dumbbells" as you called them. Of course, eventually you stated that it was a patternmaker's chest, but it was fun watching you go through it.

      Guilty as charged! I must admit that I am not terribly familiar with which tools are specifically for pattern makers. But I’m learning!

      So they’re definitely not little dumbbells then? 🤔

    Cool tools. Question -why do many of the old planes have specks of white paint? I can’t recall ever being in a situation where I’m painting while planing with a number 4. I could see how a block plane might get paint specks, but not a smoother.

    • @justplanefun
      @justplanefun  2 місяці тому

      I think the average homeowner used planes a bit differently than we do now. They would use em for trimming a door on a screened-in porch and then set the plane down and get to painting.
      Nowadays we fix or build a screened in porch with power tools and then retreat to the shop to use our planes making fine furniture 🪑

    Thanx for the video M J , question where can one find online auctions ?????

    • @justplanefun
      @justplanefun  3 місяці тому

      I’d say try “hibid” for your state first. If you google hibid ______ (insert your state), it should bring it up.
      Once you bid on a couple online auctions, you’ll start getting emails from em.

    Is the tote on a No 112 interchangeable with a No 4? My 112 has a tote that's completely broke in half. 😢

    • @justplanefun
      @justplanefun  Місяць тому

      I don’t know of any specifics about the 112 handle that would make it unique to that scraper plane. I’ve interchanged no4 handles with em before - but always with full disclosure if I sold em that way

    Nice haul, how long do you give your patrons to see if they buy something and do you have a price on the router yet?

    • @justplanefun
      @justplanefun  3 місяці тому +1

      Usually stuff goes pretty fast. The patrons typically watch the video right away and start claiming stuff
      I’d be pretty content at $150 plus shipping for the router plane

    Great Haul and video. On the wooden molding planes what markers are they. I collect Cincinnati Ohio plane makers. Let me know if you have any and the price. They should be stamped on the front Thanks Sean

      Most of em don’t have a maker on em, just a previous owners initials (or so it appears)

    Hello, I just stumbled across your video and I'm wondering how much would a #4 Stanley plane be, nothing special just a decent one. I would like to get one with frog adjustment. I don't live in an area where they are easily found, i don't think. I don't want a harbor freight one either but I don't want to have to pay a lot. Do you have something I'm looking for around the $30 to $40 range or am I being delusional. I'm just getting into hand planes and I want to use it not collect them. I know I would have to pay for shipping too. What can you tell me please sir?

    • @justplanefun
      @justplanefun  3 місяці тому +1

      I can get you a good Stanley no4 with the frog adjustment screw for around $40-45 plus shipping.
