I've tried his exact recipe on two separate occasions. It's 100% the absolute best beef stew I've ever put in my mouth. I almost want to stick my entire head in the pot and eat it from the bottom up. Believe him. It's truly amazing.

Another home run recipe. I made this for my boys last night, and it was amazing. The house smells like a wintry November in the midwest. I always give you credit for any compliments I receive. As a single dad of a teen & tween, thank you for showing me how to feed a family even on a tight budget.

One suggestion, start by browning the meat (in batches) and reserve afterwards. This will create a fond on the bottom of the pot. When you add the veggies and liquid it'll deglaze and give you lots of flavour to your final dish before adding the meat back in and continuing with the recipe.

works great. i love that it has stainless steal pot inside ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxG-7WiT7ocumjytOpHDFt632PL0pxXRAg and not the one with coating. we used to have a coated pot before, and the coating slowly peels, and i am sure went into the food that we cooked. Absolutely love stainless steel, and will not use a coated product again. This pot has many settings and many buttons, and i need to sit down with a manual to figure out which setting to use. I used the basic functions, and even though i am not technologically skilled, i turned it on and assembled it without any help.Very satisfied with this product overall.

For a bit of texture, I’d add a cup of frozen green peas at the same time you add the au jus. They will quickly thaw, and give you a nice pop when you eat them. Adds a nice color to the dish, too.

Add tomato paste to pot before adding liquids and cook a little. It brings out the flavor of the tomato paste and enhances your sauce. Same when making pasta sauce. Leave one end, after opening, on the tomato paste can. Use it to push paste out cleanly.

Bought one for my family and another for my parents as Christmas gifts. This stew was my first time using it. Followed to a tee with great success ! Wife and daughter loved it as did I. Took a batch over to my parents for their dinner tonight, then spent an hour with mom reviewing how to operate it, then giving her a UA-cam demonstration/tour of the Pressure Luck page. Watched more than 20 videos here prior to cooking anything which helped a lot. Looking forward to the rest of the Ohio winter full of good eating. You're the best my man, thanks Jeff !!!

So I tried this tonight. I did one thing different and that is I browned ONE SIDE of the beef first for the Maillard reaction while leaving most of the meat raw to be cooked as per usual.
The only suggestion I have is to cut the rosemary and thyme in half at least. Unless you really, REALLY like the taste of Rosemary. 1 tsp overpowers everything else.
For those who think that 20 mins isn't enough time in the pressure cooker, the timing is perfect just as he describes. The carrots and potatoes were soft, but not mushy unless you mush them on purpose. The beef was the same. Not falling apart (which isn't good), but tender enough to cut with your spoon. Provides the perfect texture you want in your mouth.

    • @nancysciulli8440
      @nancysciulli8440 11 місяців тому

I just finished making it too. It is perfect. I left out the rosemary and wine but that little bit of brown sugar was genius. It is amazing how 20 min. is just right.

When u season it. Dont measure. Just do a sprinkle i dont pay attention to measurements. With the flour.. he said a quarter of flour. Just add flour enough to coat meat. Dont worry about measurements period.

I just finished making a batch and we're going to have it tomorrow night. Because my Starfrit pot has a non stick surface, I seared the meat in a stainless steel skillet. After transferring the meat to the liner I sauteed the onions, celery and garlic in the skillet. Then I added the tomato paste and wine and broth with rosemary and thyme and the pan deglazed beautifully.
Thank you Jeff for your entertaining and helpful videos!

Without question the best thing I have ever made. And like most stews, soups and casseroles, it only gets better with age as it works it’s magic in the refrigerator. Your comment about whether people like mushrooms is really important! I HATE the texture of mushrooms but they give an amazing taste to beef.
I blitz any mushrooms I add to a beef dish - all. the earthy flavour without the slimy texture I hate about 'rooms!

I would add a few things to this: 1) Agree with Craig Stephen below about creating fond. HUGE flavor difference in the meat. 2) Might need a bit of cornstarch slurry. 3) I would also add just a TINY bit of Kitchen Bouquet or if you have a Caribbean market or live in an area with a sizable Caribbean population (Publix may have it), a few drops of Grace Foods browning. Gives a really rich dark brown color. Pearl onions would be good too, but use the frozen ones. Fresh ones are a bear to peel.

I made this for dinner tonight. I didn't have fresh mushrooms, but I had a small can of mushrooms in butter sauce that I added instead. In Australia, we do not have "au jus" so I hit google and found it to be the equivalent of our "roast meat gravy" so I added a pkt of that. Served it with italian crusty bread. It was sooo good & full of flavour. My dad isn't a huge fan of beef stew but even he liked it. Everyone else loved it and the whole pot was gone after everyone came back 2 hrs later and had more. I am definitely keeping this recipe. Thank you so much.

Another suggestion, for people who don't like mushrooms (texture-wise), use dried mushroons and grind them up into a powder in a spice grinder to add tons of flavour. I love beef stew with doughboys on top though I don't use beef much anymore, it's become too expensive, so I use pork shoulder instead.

Cut both ends of the tomato paste and keep one of the cut lids. Use the lid to push the paste through the can. You will get about 95 to 98% of the paste out of the can. Easy to do and less mess.

Did beef stew (remote camp site) in the pot, on tailgate of pickup truck, had small electric generator. Weather tempature 38°F.

I take my airfryer when I camp. If I don't have electric then there is usually a community house or bathroom. I can cook the roast for three days..... chicken. Seafood!

      .
Cooked in crock-pot 'outside' hotel room, time consuming, cold weather as obstacle, also cannot cook in room.
Instapot the cat's meow, no fuss, no muss, many cooking features. Exterior electric outlets at hotel, sometimes run power cord out window, depending on location.
On different note: myself not a fan of air fryer. My wife (Sicilian Princess) place fryer on counter, causing my kitchen-aid mixer to go elsewhere. I didn't eat anything cooked in fryer, now it's gone, gifted away. Psy-op took a months time. Kitchen-aid is back where it belongs. Have to rejected air-fryers, need to keep my scam viable, it's a Brooklyn thing.
No brainier, Kitchen-aid wins over Air-fryer in battle of counter space. PS: K-cup coffee machine gone too, toaster oven stays.
      Happy Cooking Ange, Best Wishes.

PS: at camp did liver & onions via instant pot, also 'escarole & beans [cannellini] with prosciutto topped with Locatelli. Next trip bringing two pots, no brainier.

Made this today since we finally have some cold weather. I did not add the thyme since I didn’t have any on hand. I skipped the wine too. I added a splashes of siracha and when I say this was perfection............ I mean it was perfection!

I thought the last ingredient was going to be Boursin. You got me hooked onto that stuff. You know the TikTok pasta with Feta and tomatoes? You should do it with Boursin. It's delicious!

No Borsin, no cornstarch slurry? Are we sure this is legit?

This has me salivating!! What is the Au Jui you used (sorry for spelling) - is it just a gravy powder? I wonder if there's a substitute in Europe.
