The Constitution prohibite it in the name of peace, so they claimed if Japanese safety and defence under serious threat there will be no peace, so they allowed the war potential by build it under the guise of another name and ship and slowly transform it into real war potential like in this video and this ship's war potential could only be use to it's full capabilities if there were serious threat against Japanese and it is entering the Japanese Maritime and Air border and EEZ. The JSDF was established under the name Self-Defence Force as the de-facto military because the US pressure for the huge and costly budget to defend the country when the US Force in Japan main job was to monitor China and N.Korea, the US also need Japan to militarize again as US allied against what they called the possible threat to US.

They should have made it 100 feet longer. As they are just now realizing. You can't land like a conventional Aircraft. Unless the fuel load is depleted to 90% and still stop in time. As they only have a single access landing zone...So you can't have any planes on deck..They have to be stored below....Japanese Izumo has the same short fall.. But combined with the United States Fleet. These would be devastating. As Jeep Carriers...Why they use the United States Burke class design for their Destroyers..And they have lots of them...

Its a water tight door, each handle (called a dog) locks its corner in place so water can't leak through. Doors that see alot of use typically have one lever that connects to all the dogs, so you can move them all at once.
I believe the max. is less than 25 and flight ops are best with 12-ish. But considering the F-35B's capabilities and Japan's geopolitics, it's more than enough.
Japan classifies it as a multi-purpose operatioin destroyer, but once the F-35B are deployed on Izumo and its sistership Kaga, they will be, for all intents and purposes, light aircraft carriers, despite their Japanese classification.
