Yep, the first boss I fought in the open world was a big fuck off dragon. No way in hell I could've beaten that melee but my starting bow and about 90 arrows later it was dead. Even hiding behind cover to avoid the flames it was still a brutal fight. Never played a ranged character in Soulsborne before but my Samurai is getting far more worth out of the bow than the Uchi. Buying arrows is actually of greater benefit than spending runes on levels atm, which puts an extremely interesting twist on things.
For me, who is on his first playthrough and has just reached mountaintops of giants, hearing the old 'you are maidenless' feels great as it shows just how far I've come
I love how much effort ymfah will go through just to put a bit in the vid, where he's like oh shit I can't do the thing then goes on to restart from scratch fucking legend.
For the Ancient Somber Stone, instead of having to wait for the 3 invasions, you can just kill Magnus the Beast Claw in the ruins before the bridge to Mount Gelmir and go back to Varre and that'll count it. For those who don't know.
The Iron Bridge skip is still possible, you have to aim for the right side slightly. I got it down after like 15 minutes. I got knocked off and then did it again within 4 tries, you just need to aim at a different spot.
@stupid Cat thing is I wouldn't even call it a glitch, definitely harmless though. Being able to jump onto that ledge just kinda made sense with the way this game's platforming works so really it just seemed like clever use of the game's geometry to create a little shortcut. Patching it the way they did just seems a bit unnecessary
They don't! Bows deal good damage at good range, they build up statuses quick and allow for relative safety. Hell, on specific builds, bows can crest 1200 damage (no RTSR required)
@@Data-AnalystSera in pvp it's really easy to dodge the arrows and in pve the arrows themselves don't do much dmg you just have to wait till the poison does the work also scarlet rot and sleep arrows would be very powerful but their craft needs materials that are incredibly difficult to farm
@@Data-AnalystSera Eh, doing normal runs with a bow sucks especially since anything bigger than a shortbow has no running or rolling attacks and are just slow in general. there's also the thing of it generally being really expensive and a lot of bosses won't let you stay far away for very long
@@Data-AnalystSera lol I play bow, they’re mid at best. Lock on is atrocious with about 15% of arrows hitting a competent player It takes about 8-9 arrows to kill a proper 125 build It takes a strength/dual nagitaka /any long pokey build one single powerstances lunge to take you out, one single roll catch/hit and you’re done, vs 9 arrows No viable bows scale in arcane, so while bleed can be inflicted from one power stances attack with melee, you can’t even make an occult shortbow, making pvp status take forever and incredibly weak via bow. Literally damn near everything got buffed last patch, and the bow which was already considered underpowered, was untouched. That’s a direct power slide. Bows are decent for certain bosses that allow you to just dodge+jumpshot backwards and rarely get hit (beast clergy man, mohg) but other bosses are way harder than most builds Not unworkable in pve, but definitely a poor choice for pvp. It could be argued they were workable before the last patch, but damn near every weapon beats it 1 on 1 now w the buffed recoveries. Bow pvp UA-camrs make it look workable and viable, but 90% of their opponents are just bad/using joke builds, and not showing when a competent meta build ends them in 20 seconds. They genuinely need a huge buff
Honestly, I don't know what y'all quite mean. I played through the game using only a bow, it was quite good. The damage sat between a cool 200-300, which isn't a lot but the speed, range, and frequency of arrows meant I could pepper bosses non stop. My main arrows were stormwing and poisonbone. It worked more than well enough, and I didn't need too much to pull it off. I mostly used the Black Bow and Albanuric bow. Albanuric Bow deals absolutely insane damage, no joke. Any boss that can be headshot will take 1k+ damage from a mighty shot direct hit, which isn't super bad on most bosses. Black bow, however, is better because of the speed and having barrage. It's very unorthodox and hard to get used to, but bows are perfectly viable for pve. As for pvp, it depends on the bow. My favorite weapon for pvp is the hand ballista, and it cleans out. The black bow is great for sleep/poison combos to wear opponents down. It's, of course, going to perform worse than other things, dare I say worse than most things, but it is perfectly viable
Ymfah: “In this ‘no walking’ challenge I will not even use ladders even though it’s technically climbing and not walking” Also ymfah: “The game considers this literal cannon a bow so it counts I promise”
@@Exoskel2 he is? Even in the parts where he talks (the "Thank you dark souls" parts I think) I can't tell he's Korean Maybe cuz I never heard a Korean person's voice before
Well this was educational for me! I was basically doing this exact build getting the cannon early to +9, same talismans (no idea about the shortbow glitch) and was going for plus 10 but had no idea invasions factor in your upgrades. Was sat around for ages wondering why I couldn't get a match. Was also making bone balista bolts which only requires a hefty beast bone to make 5 bolts
In Caelid at the beginning as well there is the Serpent bow which has low stat requirements and is great for helping with the poison build up. No fighting necessary just got to avoid one poison mage and navigate some stinky rot pools. Also a good source for aeonian butterfly's if you want to incorporate rot arrows into your later boss runs. Not for bow only but ALSO in Caelid you can pick up the Rot Dog Spirit Ashes which are lovely for a brief bit of respite from a boss as well as basically a free rot proc
also prioritize the rotbone arrows for the fight instead of serpent arrows, you can farm materials for it at the abandoned cave where you get the serpent bow
For anyone wondering: level 70+ will get you invasions in Subterranean Shunning Grounds at +9 somber. I learned this the hard way trying to get to Mohg early lol
Assuming 1.04 didn't patch it, you can apply weapon grease to a crossbow by equipping it in your left hand and putting the grease onto a melee weapon in your right hand. It stacks with the status effects on your bolts, so you can use it with burred bolts in the pulley crossbow to near-instantly proc bleed, or mix and match to get dual-effect bolts.
I feel like "How to break" going to be the new format of Elden Ring series from Ymfah. I mean this is refreshing considering there is a lot build that can be created, but I kinda miss the sense of adventuring in any run from first boss to last boss.
Was waiting for this, honestly from all the cool things they did with bows I think having a bow build might actually be viable so to those who like archery well hope you enjoy it.
I've been doing a bow-only run and endgame is fucking miserable because bows simply DO NOT scale well enough whatsoever. The only remotely viable tactic is, predictably, to spam bleed arrows, but unfortunately you're capped on how many arrows you can carry at a time still so it becomes almost impossible to kill some bosses without resorting to alternative arrows like poison or scarlet rot.
@@freedmfe8934 might get patched, but it's not nearly as good as just running spells or Bolt of Gransax if you want ranged damage, so it probably won't ruin anything unless there's parts of it that could transfer UGS damage to a dagger or sumn
Until Radagon decides to catch all your arrows. Not knowing about the black bow and with maxed out damage from talismans I dealt a pitiful 150 damage per arrow if they connected. At least Elden Beast was incredibly easy. I would recommend anyone ho goes for a bow build to at least use ashes for some support.
Your choice in background music is one of my favorite things about your videos, this video being no exception - the jazz at 3:30ish slaps harder than a thrown cymbal.
Honestly, your editing and music selection is so spot on that every moment the track is about to change I get excited. You're doing something right. Also... Love the edition of the Formula 1 track. lmao
It's weird to me how - well, basically disagreeable the bow balancing is when to me it seems just giving them better scaling almost completely fixes most of the issues - the early bosses deal with ranged attacks way worse than the later ones when they get way more aggressive - increased (optional) damage also removes the frustration of arrow management. Giving an ammo efficient "Shotgun" ability could also give some more risk/reward playstyle. Or how about a sekiro style heavy jump kick into backflip arrow flurry?
It’s weird that the increased the speed of the jump and roll attacks but the regular ones are still horrible slow. Also holding down my bow should charge it to increase damage
there's so many things that could be done, it just seems like FROM has a death grudge against bows. They'll throw you a bone and give you a mighty shot ash of war and a bunch of different arrow types, but they're not going to let you actually deal DAMAGE with bows.
@@RuFi0000000 except its dogshit and costs 20fp, only viable against Big enemys that dont move. This is because over half the arrows miss anyways, so why not just shoot twice normally and do the same damage Its tracking is also pretty bad, often missing the entire barrage due to the enemy doing a slight jog towards you. Its just a super fustrating ability that seems good but is super inconsistant and clunky in practice.
At the bird soul farming spot, instead of killing the bird, you can do a little parcour, jump into the void at a specific place with your horse, fall for 2 ish minute, and if you keep attacking in the emptiness, every mob on the map dies and you get 140 000 runes. This is what I absolutely adore about Elden Ring, you are literally able to go to mid-late game areas without any glitches or skips, is so freeing and amazing ❤️ Not that I dont like skips/glitches those are amazing and need amazing skill to perform, I just like the fact that From allows you the freedom to explore almost everything basically from the very start of the game
Ymfah is like a pick up artist to me. Almost sold me the dream of a bow build looking viable as a main weapon dps for a second. I love bow's, even legit practice archery as a hobby with my compound. But goddam. It's almost nonsensical to try to main them when literally every other build in comparison gives so much more mileage, for a fraction of the cost bow builds provide. Sometimes even free. *cough bleed builds cough* I treat bow as more of an "adventuring tool" if anything else in Elden Ring. Sadly enough.
"You have to pay RUNES to hit through a 100% physical block shield??" - literally any other build in the game I mean I guess you could get a little bit of mileage out of the Horn Bow that does some split magic damage, but otherwise everyone can choose to do split damage at pretty much any time for free. I remember some poor low level invader who invaded me at Stormveil. Guy knew every single path in the castle, and it did him no good because I just blocked his arrows. Eventually he ran into a room while we were struggling with a Banished Knight and got vigor checked for 440 damage by the crossfire and instantly died.
Really nice run. The problems with bows in this game is unfortunately not only the damage, but also the input reading. You can make the lions with scythes jump around like circus animals if you fire a bow, despite not even being in their general vicinity. Hitting is gonna be more difficult for some than killing with the damage.
the survive 1.04 is refering to the weapon swap glitch he is using. Its taking the cannons damage with the bows animation, so you can take hard hitting weapons but with very fast animations. 1.04 nerfed a lot of shit, so its surprising that weapon swap wasn't nerfed. You can weapon swap literality at the start of the game.
I've done the bridge jump in Volcano Manor in v1.04, so it is still possible. However it is much more difficult and it took me nearly an hour to do it. Do not recommend.
I believe you can circumvent the matchmaking system at +9 by putting your weapon in your strongbox. I know in previous games that didn't work but I've heard rumours that it does. I have tried it and I have been able to invade in earlier areas but I'm not sure if it actually worked or not. Worth a shot I reckon.
I wanna see you do more of a gun build in this game there is some kind of hand crossbows those could be utilized along with the gun shield obviously and the jar Cannon steel I’m sure you could come up with something pretty cool with a lot of gun themed weapons
That night cavalry cheese never works for me, he always gets poisoned but doesn't fall to his death. The GinoMachino method is much more reliable, from the rise grace the outer left side of the bridge has a small ledge you can stand on. Lure him over there (you may need to walk back onto land if his AI makes him go back towards the bridge), if he goes for the jumping attack while close to the ledge he falls to his death. I did have one time where he landed on the sliver with me, just quit to menu and retry (or die). It's very uncommon and 90+% of the time he just jumps to his death.
[13:36] Assuming the person you've invaded has already beaten Godrick, they could have obtained Rogier's Rapier for free at the Roundtable Hold. It comes upgraded to +8 right out the gate... and can completely screw you over in PVP matchmaking because of that.
@@Flygoniaks Though you are looking at a video that shows how to get that high w/o killing a single boss. You can get to anywhere except the late game areas without killing a single boss, so you can loot some late game weapons easier if you have the patience to run all the way to get what you need.
@Prdgmshft To my knowledge it's both. The game tries to pair you up with players that are roughly the same level as you, but it's also based on the highest-upgraded weapon in your/their inventory.
6:05 - you can farm runes from that ball that falls off the cliff in the Dragonbarrow, so as long as you farm it for a bit you can restock all your arrows and try again, so you really have infinite tries.
@@AndrewTheUltraBoss99 the boulder offers 2000 runes, but yeah its still more of a low level thing as the bird is way faster to kill and offers far more runes. (you can get in 5-10 seconds what would take several minutes with the boulder and I've timed the boulder at 1 run every 30 seconds with the bird being around 7 seconds for me on a fast run)
Could be wrong but I don't think the serpent bow actually poisons itself. I'm not even sure that it even has any benefit for serpent arrows despite the name either.
@@shamfyre the serpent bow adds a little poison buildup to any arrow shot with it. This stacks with serpent arrows. But you're still gonna poison enemies faster with any light bow or the black bow because of the faster firing rate.
@@mainlyjm are you sure? I just finished ng+2 and I've been using the serpent bow since my first run but I've never noticed any sort of poison buildup without serpent arrows, even firing dozens of arrows in a row.
@@shamfyre It doesn't seem to add a lot. This is information I got from the wiki, and personally I've only ever used it with poison arrows myself so I'm not sure if it's true. But like I said, light bows are better at it in every way. You can poison a majority of the enemies with a light bow in one weapon art that has the arrow rain Ash of War on it.
@@mainlyjm correct my original point was that it is possible to still poison without having to pay extra for poison arrows which can be 6 times the cost of a regular arrow (or the mats for making poison arrows)
5:33 "Every boss is now nameless king" That literally sums up every single boss in Dark Souls 4 here, yeah. That, and lots and lots of empty open world space are the game's two main offerings.
I've been pondering out a route myself for a bubble only run. Similarly to your bow only run, it would be impossible for me to kill the giant dragon with only bubbles. I'll be using this as a sort of reference for my own route. My goal is to get the Envoy Long Horn from The Capital as fast as I can to make the run less excruciating.

For the Ancient Somber Stone, instead of having to wait for the 3 invasions, you can just kill Magnus the Beast Claw in the ruins before the bridge to Mount Gelmir and go back to Varre and that'll count it. For those who don't know.
That was added in a later update, and didn't exist when this video was made. But it's still good to know for everyone without PS+.
@LittleZbot Yeah i just wanted to make sure people knew, so those who didn't want to go online could still have a way of doing this.
The whole F1 theme around the video cracks me up so much
The Iron Bridge skip is still possible, you have to aim for the right side slightly. I got it down after like 15 minutes. I got knocked off and then did it again within 4 tries, you just need to aim at a different spot.
@stupid Cat No fun allowed ya know.
did you have fun doing the glitch
@stupid Cat thing is I wouldn't even call it a glitch, definitely harmless though. Being able to jump onto that ledge just kinda made sense with the way this game's platforming works so really it just seemed like clever use of the game's geometry to create a little shortcut. Patching it the way they did just seems a bit unnecessary
@@oxxy6678 "glitch" is something like wrongwarps or zips. this is just platforming.
@@EliasKaydanius It's obvious though that it's not intented to be reachable from that point
The lesson of the story: they really need to buff ranged attacks to be their own playstyle.
Lock on is atrocious with about 15% of arrows hitting a competent player
It takes about 8-9 arrows to kill a proper 125 build
It takes a strength/dual nagitaka /any long pokey build one single powerstances lunge to take you out, one single roll catch/hit and you’re done, vs 9 arrows
No viable bows scale in arcane, so while bleed can be inflicted from one power stances attack with melee, you can’t even make an occult shortbow, making pvp status take forever and incredibly weak via bow. Literally damn near everything got buffed last patch, and the bow which was already considered underpowered, was untouched. That’s a direct power slide.
Bows are decent for certain bosses that allow you to just dodge+jumpshot backwards and rarely get hit (beast clergy man, mohg) but other bosses are way harder than most builds
Not unworkable in pve, but definitely a poor choice for pvp. It could be argued they were workable before the last patch, but damn near every weapon beats it 1 on 1 now w the buffed recoveries.
Bow pvp UA-camrs make it look workable and viable, but 90% of their opponents are just bad/using joke builds, and not showing when a competent meta build ends them in 20
seconds.
Ah yes, the mythical Cannon Bow.
Another masterpiece by ymfah.

Glad to learn that it took me 4 hours to do the +7 jump the other day because they patched it, and not because I suck
Still doable, just much harder

In Caelid at the beginning as well there is the Serpent bow which has low stat requirements and is great for helping with the poison build up. No fighting necessary just got to avoid one poison mage and navigate some stinky rot pools. Also a good source for aeonian butterfly's if you want to incorporate rot arrows into your later boss runs.
Not for bow only but ALSO in Caelid you can pick up the Rot Dog Spirit Ashes which are lovely for a brief bit of respite from a boss as well as basically a free rot proc
Yo !
\[T]/
far easier and more reliable to do this before you have jar cannon, instead of praying you can win with poison in two tries. helped a lot
also prioritize the rotbone arrows for the fight instead of serpent arrows, you can farm materials for it at the abandoned cave where you get the serpent bow
For anyone wondering: level 70+ will get you invasions in Subterranean Shunning Grounds at +9 somber. I learned this the hard way trying to get to Mohg early lol
Man love the upgrades in editing you're just getting better. Glad to see your success, and hope it keeps goin.

Not sadly, they just need to buff scaling
I've been doing a bow-only run and endgame is fucking miserable because bows simply DO NOT scale well enough whatsoever. The only remotely viable tactic is, predictably, to spam bleed arrows, but unfortunately you're capped on how many arrows you can carry at a time still so it becomes almost impossible to kill some bosses without resorting to alternative arrows like poison or scarlet rot.
Basically no scaling and super expensive ammo
@@freedmfe8934 might get patched, but it's not nearly as good as just running spells or Bolt of Gransax if you want ranged damage, so it probably won't ruin anything unless there's parts of it that could transfer UGS damage to a dagger or sumn
Until Radagon decides to catch all your arrows. Not knowing about the black bow and with maxed out damage from talismans I dealt a pitiful 150 damage per arrow if they connected. At least Elden Beast was incredibly easy. I would recommend anyone ho goes for a bow build to at least use ashes for some support.
The sound track for this slaps way harder than anyone asked for and I love it! XD
Your choice in background music is one of my favorite things about your videos, this video being no exception - the jazz at 3:30ish slaps harder than a thrown cymbal.
When ymfah beats the game with a bow faster then you can beat the game normally
Well we like to go to every side of the map...
88 hours and ive just recently killed fire giant and got to miquella haligtree
Or how about a sekiro style heavy jump kick into backflip arrow flurry?
feels like bows are seriously unloved in all fromsoft games. a moveset with combos similar to monster hunter bows would be nice
Ash of war: Rain of Arrows lets you shoot multiple arrows for the cost of a single one. You also don't need to have FP to use it.
@@RuFi0000000 except its dogshit and costs 20fp, only viable against Big enemys that dont move. This is because over half the arrows miss anyways, so why not just shoot twice normally and do the same damage
Its tracking is also pretty bad, often missing the entire barrage due to the enemy doing a slight jog towards you. Its just a super fustrating ability that seems good but is super inconsistant and clunky in practice.
F1 Music, League Music, and Elden Ring; My three favorite things.
And so, a new era of Ymfah begins. Can’t wait to see what crazy stuff you’d do with this game. LOVED your Skyrim no walking video btw!

So charming to watch these videos from the games early days. How little we knew.
Loving your videos per usual, with the added bonus of f1 theme 😅
I love how this game allows you to get away with falling directly into lava by essentially hopping backwards over and over.
you're allowed to walk in it, it just does a small amount of chip damage. He hops backwards as it's faster movement but you can 100% walk through it.
At the bird soul farming spot, instead of killing the bird, you can do a little parcour, jump into the void at a specific place with your horse, fall for 2 ish minute, and if you keep attacking in the emptiness, every mob on the map dies and you get 140 000 runes. You can warp back to the grace and then repeat, since the whole things takes less than 3 min total once you have it down.

Not that I dont like skips/glitches those are amazing and need amazing skill to perform, I just like the fact that From allows you the freedom to explore almost everything basically from the very start of the game
The craftables only run is going to be godlike...
ymfah is a person of focus, commitment, and sheer fucking will.
Your music choices are all phenomenal. Great video again!
*cough bleed builds cough*
I treat bow as more of an "adventuring tool" if anything else in Elden Ring. Sadly enough.
"You have to pay RUNES to hit through a 100% physical block shield??"
- literally any other build in the game
I mean I guess you could get a little bit of mileage out of the Horn Bow that does some split magic damage, but otherwise everyone can choose to do split damage at pretty much any time for free.
Wait till you try firing through a doorway
"how did this survive 1.4?" Getting all that stuff requires that you have balls made of pure hardstone. This is the good stuff.
the survive 1.04 is refering to the weapon swap glitch he is using. Its taking the cannons damage with the bows animation, so you can take hard hitting weapons but with very fast animations. 1.04 nerfed a lot of shit, so its surprising that weapon swap wasn't nerfed. You can weapon swap literality at the start of the game.
Congratulations on 1 Million!!! 🥳 🎉
I thought I miss licked between this and an F1 video. Lol you already got me hooked and subbed in less than 3 seconds.
I've done the bridge jump in Volcano Manor in v1.04, so it is still possible. However it is much more difficult and it took me nearly an hour to do it. Do not recommend.
Oh hey! Just like the video said!
Literally. 9:24.
Ah, yes i realized something was wrong with the ledge to get the +7, it took me 15 minutes but i finally got the damn stone
I saw this and my first thought was "didn't you already do this?" But it had been the Skyrim ones you made. Disregard me. Great work, as always!
Man your use of music is always so masterful
This man has done so many challenge runs and game-breaking videos, and I haven't even beaten the game once yet
