@closertothetruth entropy increases complexity because it allows matter to take the form of an increasingly greater number of possible states and combinations of states, that's why most measures of complexity are based on some kind of entropy.
The simple answer is that there are relationships between entropy and energy. Complexity arises when the complex structure so formed is energy-favorable. I.e. when you get better energy results by creating complexity. Don't make it more complex a question than you need it to be.
The pursuit of cold fusion technology and other atomic energy research will solve these concerns in future. One needs to keep in mind that our intelligence was designed for efficiently obtaining resources ( food, drink, warmth ), self defence and procreation, not for constantly pushing the limits.

Why would energy produce ever larger complexity after entropy is already equalizing potentials to a perfectly balanced equilibrium, effectively reducing it to 0, that doesn't make sense. Except if we were evolved in some peak energy state nobody can understand yet, that would make sense from an engineering point of view, at least. Nature doesn't do technology, so there must be something wrong with this idea also. Personally, i believe we got those energy principles wrong somehow, simply because energetic potentials can never go away, not sure about hibernation hypothesis, but there's got to be more to that story. The main reason for my idea is, energy potentials always flow both ways, but we can see things changing in only one direction and therefore scientist are speculating that's something energy does just because. We can see microwave radiation from all directions and combine these phenomena with flow of time, leading to false assumption energy of time is like an arrow, pointing at only one direction. On the other hand, we can see the memory of the entire universe in the night sky, something is telling me those two phenomena are connected somehow. If that is true, then there was no big bang or inflation, background is not the origin of matter but the sea of light.
Scientist: explain about the complexity of the universe. God: hmm your right about that. But your still too long to far to reach the must significant answer.
Complexity is not an antonym for entropy. And the physicist's idea of entropy is not reality. Entropy can only increase in a closed, perfectly insulated system. Nothing in the universe even remotely resembles that thought experiment, not even black holes. Even the universe itself is expanding! Entropy cannot increase in such a system. As long as the universe expands, entropy is conserved, like energy, charge and (yes) gravity, but attenuates, becomes less concentrated as the volume increases. So entropy actually, seemingly paradoxically, decreases at the local level with the passage of time.
