I’m 60 and going to do the same things but I’m waiting till April because the rent is cheaper and more choices on a condo, do you have a thought on your budget? I’m thinking 2500 dollars a month to just to be safe probably won’t need that much but who knows
Darren I’m very happy for you to see you making this decision, I really don’t think you’ll regret it at all. I’m only 31 but I’m jealous to see anybody getting to move there I really want to do the same and live a different life from the norm here in the UK, it’s very quickly becoming a terrible place to live. I really wish you the best of luck I’ve been watching you for at least 3 or 4 years and I think your channel will get bigger and better in Thailand! Definitely document the whole process it’ll be great content 🇹🇭
Good for you !! Im 62 and in 2020 (Covid) I was fit and working a great well paid job, i had had for 15 years, then i lost the job due to covid, since then I’ve had and lost 3 other jobs, been diagnosed with diabetes, Kidney failure, osteo arthiritis, interstitial lung disease, and had two strokes… always fit before 2020… so now my retirement is forced on me, with low income, poor health and no opportunity to do the things i thought i would at 67 (Retirement age)…. So make the most of it… crack on and enjoy. 😊
Friend...a mirror of what happened to me. Covid reduced our income from €140m to €4m. And it killed my brother. I was well paid, ill (5 heart operations) and 60. I respect Darren's choice and dislike people who think he is going there for young girls. Get a life haters🙏🏽
All the best Darren! Myself and my partner are just back from Croatia, and we’ve been depressed ever since we got back and with good reason - Croatia is such a lovely place with great people, everyone has respect, low crime, no beggars/idiots/rubbish on the streets, and other stuff we all hear about on social media. It’s clear to see the UK is in such a terrible mess, and getting worse! We’re seriously now considering living elsewhere ❤
@@Karen-n4h Hi Karen, we went to Dubrovnik (aka King’s Landing if you’re a Game of Thrones fan!) Really nice for first visit, and it was also our first visit too 😊. We’re def going back at some point!
Well done Darren, you look so much more relaxed, go live your life and if you find after a while it’s not for you, then just come back like you said, looking forward to the vlogs ❤️
Vacation in Thailand different then actual living there. I am now in Thailand for 17th vacation in 19yrs time. Would live here but mostly for 6month a year rest in Holland.
Darren,I am SO excited for you….I jumped off the cliff several times in my life and have never been happier than when I did so…I went to Vancouver in 1980,as a young woman…then went to Abu Dhabi in 2000,UK in 2002,back to Toronto in 2006,finally back to my home here in Prince Edward Island in 2011….I have NEVER been afraid to jump and always had the support of family and friends and never once regretted my moves! Those moves have helped make my life a more colourful tapestry…..and I would jump, again to Thailand if given the chance!…..you will not,for one SECOND ,regret your move.I can promise you that.I am looking so forward now to those new vlogs you will post from Thailand….I am getting older now….65 in February….so I will live vicariously through you !…….your new life is going to be OFF THE CHARTS!!!!!!!!
As a fellow subscriber, I couldn't resist saying how much I enjoyed reading your comment ! I've been something of an oyster all my life. Oh, there's a rock, I better settle down ! Could be because I was a migrant at the age of 12. Anyway. Thanks very much & all the best from Sydney, Australia !
Good on you Daren. From the UK myself and my 8th year in Thailand. Left at the same age as yourself. Best move I ever made. The way I look at it is UK is 11 hours away on a plane, I visit my brothers and sisters once every 2 years. I still love the UK but from a past perspective. Thailand is my second home and a place I currently feel most happier now. Good luck with everything you do in your move and the second part of your new life that begins 🤝😉
@DarrenJohn Thailand has that effect, loved seeing how much of an impression the country made on you. Planning on retiring out there myself in the next few years. Good luck🇹🇭🌞
I fell in love with Thailand in the early Noughties and I can fully appreciate your wish to settle there. The pace is different and the people, very kind and friendly and the dentists are 100 years ahead of the UK. I wish you well and admit to being quite envious x
Just came across your video. I’m 63 and have been talking about moving to Thaliand for a few years. I am single and freelance in my work (graphic design)and it’s been up and down for a couple of years. I also don’t have the desire or energy to chase it as much as I did plus I’m 63 and considered pretty old now. I have a trip booked to Thailand for Christmas but think I really will just do this trip and then come back and get myself organised and go back again, at least for a year then see how it goes. I’m in Sydney and it’s almost as expensive as London these days and rents are going up and up, etc…If it doesn’t work just go home and get another job. Congrats I have subscribed to your channel.

There's a "LOT" to consider.... I'm retired, and went to Thailand for two months, this year, Jan/Feb... With Mrs. We love it. But, living somewhere, isn't same as a holiday. I've spoken to ex pats. But you've obviously given all due consideration... #1.. leaving family behind!. #2.. not everyone can live with the heat, perminantly... We come to the conclusion, we'll go regularly for a good trip, 2-3 months a year. But I like to go on long motorcycle adventures in Europe northern hemisphere summer.. but everyones different, I wish you 100% success + happy news...
Being watching your Thai adventures. I'm 57 and spent a lot of time in Tenerife. Went to Thailand around 5 years ago. Totally loved it. So much so stayed for an extra month. Since being back twice. A Vietnamese island Phu Qjuoc is incredible. I'm retiring in 3 years and it's an absolute no brainer. As much as I love the Reef. Thailand has a lot more. So cheap. So good. I wish you well. And will we watching to see how your journey goes.
Fair play to you Darren, I admire your decision and wish you all the very best. The UK sadly is not what it once was and when I get the chance Im moving to Malta. Really looking forward to following your new life buddy. Good on you !!!
Give it 12 months and see how you go. I'm a regular visitor to Thailand, and it does feel like a second home to me. I'll be semi-retiring over there in about 7 years. IMO the UK has well and truly fallen, and I'm tired of London now. Good luck to you Darren.
I had a feeling this was coming, good for you. I have so many friends who have recently done exactly the same. You only live once, make the most of it. You can have a great life in Thailand. My wife is Thai and we spend a lot of time out there. It’s so cheap, people are wonderful and the UK is fast declining and will become too expensive to live. Looking forward to the videos to come, really enjoyed the holiday ones. Good luck mate.
It’s lovely going on holiday but living somewhere full time is totally different all that glitters is not gold but wishing you all the best with your life x
Wishing you the very best of luck Darren. Big decision, but with the support of your family I am sure that it will turn out to be the best decision. Looking forward to seeing new content as you move forward and settle in.
Wishing you the best of luck Darren. Had a mate ,sadly passed now, who lived in Thailand for over 20 years. He told me there were some annual issues he had to deal with in order to remain there, mostly financial requirements the Thai authorities expect you to meet . I'm sure expats in Thailand will provide you with all the necessary info on this issue. Despite some minor problems he often said he wouldn't have changed his life in Thailand for any other. Once again best of luck to you, I'll certainly be watching with great interest your future videos from the Land of Smiles
Fantastic news, Darren. Talk about contrasts. We watched your vid from way back when you courageously made reference to feeling a bit low and not at one with life (and we have all been there at some point), and then we tracked your movements during the recent Thai visitation. Come the time you reached Krabi, Hell, you appeared completely different. Call it a bodily renaissance, or a renewal, no matter what; we only know of this exquisite phenomenon by its other name, simply, Thailand. Hey, you will NEVER regret the move you will soon make. After twenty years of going back and forward to the UK from sunny Siam, common sense ultimately prevailed in me, wholly based on each of the points you articulately raised in your absorbing commentary. Loneliness? No one is ever lonely in Paradise; I talk from personal experience. Roll on December, and keep in touch, do. Best wishes to you and yours.
Well done Darren , it takes a lot of courage to take such a step, and you obviously have it. Life is short and you should enjoy it as much as possible. I can't wait for your new videos from Thailand. Hats off Darren well said it's your decision I've been to Malaysia & Thailand people are so laid back easy to affable. All the best keep us posted. Steven. Birmingham
Well in DJ, its a big jump in life but we only get one shot, the seasons and festivals in Thailand will make fantastic footage for your channel. I have travelled all over Thailand for nearly 30 years, it never fails to amaze me. I cannot make the plunge and commit to my final years there sadly....i am 10 years older than yourself. I am feeling good and the doctors are happy with my health but certain conditions would render me pretty much a no go for annual health insurance, i would never travel without that. Best wishes DJ on your life changing adventure. Cheers and thanks.
Been watching your videos for awhile now Darren - Total respect for doing what your doing, live your life! Want to do same in the future without a doubt. Like everyone else says, keep the videos coming...
Hi Darren what great news for you I'm not surprised I've been with you from the start as you know hope everything falls into place and the stars do there stuff I'll be with you every blog take care and be safe 😊
Darren I have been following you for a while now and I have loved sharing all your adventures, you have got me in tears because you have hit the nail on the head, we only get one life and you need to follow your heart, I am few years off retirement have been doing a very physical job for over 20 years it has taken its toll and after a three week holiday in Bali, my eyes were opened to a new world of beautiful people and surroundings, it makes you realise how in this country you are just like a hamster on a wheel going round and round and not getting anywhere, sending my love and best wishes here's to a bright new future Darren xxx
Congratulations on probably the best decision of life. Watching you in Thailand was a genuinely happy love filled experience, you deserve it. Go for it, all the very best
Well I sort have guessed this Darren & good on you for taking the leap It may be scary but think you will be happier as you love Thailand & as you said it’s only a flight away & go where your heart is & open a new chapter in your life Well done for the courage in making this decision & wish you all the best Find your happiness & go for it …we support you all the way xx❤ 👍👍
Totally understand. You've made your sacrifices, had a son and daughter, got by... and there's nothing keeping you here but the treadmill of work and the treadmill of finding work. We all have to look at how long we've likely got left and what became of our parents.. So you have to follow what excites you and what is meaningful to you. And more of the same is n't it! Good luck to you!
Good on you Darren We went to Thailand in May and was the best place we have been lovely people and very safe compared to many western countries Troy Tasmania
YES!!!! What a great move. Well done Darren. Not sure if you saw my message on a previous video before you left for Thailand, but I anticipated this world happen. Wishing you all the best!!!!
Darren I feel so pleased for you deciding to move to Thailand. I have enjoyed your Thailand videos and look forward to seeing many more of that amazing country when you are living there. Wish you every happiness.
Hi Darren, i knew this was coming when saw how happy you were on your videos from Thialand. Hope everything goes well for you and hope we can be on the journey with you. All the best X
Fair play to you mate. I'm 50 and I'm thinking of doing the same at 55. Similar situation to you by the sounds of it. Best of luck and I will be watching your videos with interest. All the best mate !
Hi. Good for you Darren. However, speaking from experience ref only a flight away. It does depend on “unexpected” health issues. Good luck and good health. Personally I think you are doing the right thing, for now. As you get older, be prepared for a change of heart so please don’t burn your bridges. New subscriber. 👍🏻
Hi Darren Recently found yr site. V similar situation with me. 58. Good job. Love Thailand. Been 20 plus times. Planning on moving full time soon too. It ticks all the boxes. Would love to compare notes maybe. Good on you mate
Wishing you all the best on your new journey. We are the same age, I had 10 years in Italy but it didn't work out, you're right we are only a flight away from the UK. Onwards and upwards DJ
It rains 6 months of the year and is too hot and humid the other 6 months. He will end up like many others drinking beer at 11am watching the traffic go by.
Good for you. I left London for Thailand over 23 years ago and never looked back. I miss certain aspects of course but Thailand is a nice place to be. Wish you the best.
@@redmoon8217 we have a machinery business here. Social security healthcare is provided with a work permit if you have one but it’s far better to have private medical insurance which can be easily purchased here.
The worst mistake you should never make is not following your dreams. You do look so happy, and that is the key. I think it will be a huge success, but if it doesn't work out, it's best trying testing the water than spending a lifetime regretting not giving it a go. I wish you all the best. Our loss could actually be our gain. Selfishly, I'm hoping we get more videos of your new life in Thailand, and indeed all around south east Asia. Good luck, and well done 👏
What a fantastic series following you in Thailand. Good on you for this huge decision but you deserve to be happy. Life is short so you are right to look after yourself. hope the videos continue as I love your channel. All the Best DJ, good luck!

Darren we're not getting any older and stress is a real killer, whatever makes life easier and more enjoyable is better for you. Really happy for you, get stuck in and I cant wait for the videos to continue.
@timwalker2458 ok let's say your bankroll is £10k a month you'll agree your free to do anything you would do on a 2 week vacation . No let's pretend we have the energy and can all party like it's 1990 all over again every day because money isn't a problem .I rest my case . However most ex pats are on a tighter budget and after a few months get bored of the bar scene or suffer from burn out . I'm retired in Thailand and most people who do retire here start off like it's a holiday but soon learn
Good for you Darren! Live life the way you want to and make the most of it, your smile is infectious 😊. Look forward to more videos of you exploring your new home x
You've done well for yourself - your kids have strong careers and relationships, you've lived in London, the best city in the world for all your life, now you get to enjoy all of Southeast Asia and feel like a kid again discovering the world around you. That is a storybook life that many would envy. Plus you have at least 20 more years of good health. That is an eternity to enjoy your retirement and work on your channels in Asia.
Good for you mate! I came to England last year and tried a part time tech job, funny enough in Margate. It doesn't cut it even for me that rent a room in Canterbury. I am out very soon. My only regret is that I applied for a post grad visa and paid almost £3000 for it.
Hi Darren - Bold decision my friend but i think the correct one...The look on your face in the videos you posted shows how enamoured you are with the place and I am sure you will be happy there...I wish you all the best and look forward to some new content in the future.
Terrific idea! Do what you like to do and make more money at it while spending less in a place you're in love with. I'll definitely pop in every now and then to see how it's going. "Lots of luck"
Well done Darren, I don’t blame you one bit. Go with what your heart and head say. You’re looking so well which proves you’re doing the right thing. I wish you every happiness, you’ll have a much better quality of life. I don’t know what’s going on with UA-cam or if anyone else is having the same problem.
Don’t blame you Darren, i have exactly the same sentiments at a slightly later time in life but I’m leaving the UK nothing left here for any of us and the government change reinforces that won’t miss the UK will miss my family who are still here but it’s a country I don’t recognise any longer and it’s a very small world, good luck you deserve it.
Fair play mate. I retired at 56 last year. First trip to Thailand earlier this year. Came back last month to try and live in Bangkok for a few months. I love it. My reasons are very similar to my own. I've subscribed and I'll be interested to see how you get on. Also keep dropping the weight. It's easier here without it. Ha ha! The very best of luck to you
Hi Darren Well I made the move to Thailand 11 years ago and never have I regretted it I live in Hua hin I hope you will come to take a look I think you would be very surprised it’s on the mainland about 3 hours from Bangkok
Darren, best of luck to you. I am on month number 3 from leaving the States. Best move ever. Stress level is no more. Have fun finding the right place and good luck you won't regret it.

👍🏼🙂🙏🏼
Great news really happy for you can’t wait for December
Good luck Darren. Hope you find what you are lòoking for.
All the best Darren!! Definitely wont regret it. Do love that part of the world.
Good luck to you mate, looking forward to watching it all pan out!
Much appreciated
Good on you Darren
We went to Thailand in May and was the best place we have been lovely people and very safe compared to many western countries

The land of smiles can be a dangerous place! Just be careful out there. I'm sure you'll make a good go of it and i wish you all the best.

Good luck Darren! I'm really pleased for you, look forward to more brilliant video. Best wishes.
Hi. Good for you Darren. However, speaking from experience ref only a flight away. It does depend on “unexpected” health issues. Good luck and good health. Personally I think you are doing the right thing, for now. As you get older, be prepared for a change of heart so please don’t burn your bridges. New subscriber. 👍🏻
Yea, friend of mine went to Philippines, back in 4 yrs and lost most of everything
Happy for you Darren, follow.your heart mate and do what makes you happy! You have worked your socks off so go live happily in Thailand! God bless!
Jc
Hi Darren
Recently found yr site. V similar situation with me. 58. Good job. Love Thailand. Been 20 plus times. Planning on moving full time soon too. It ticks all the boxes. Would love to compare notes maybe. Good on you mate
Absolutely 🙏🏼👍🏼
Wishing you all the best on your new journey. We are the same age, I had 10 years in Italy but it didn't work out, you're right we are only a flight away from the UK. Onwards and upwards DJ
Thank you so much!
Go for it DJ. Cost of living so much cheaper and awesome weather. Life is too short. Live the dream!
It rains 6 months of the year and is too hot and humid the other 6 months.
He will end up like many others drinking beer at 11am watching the traffic go by.
@galdessa1 Doubt DJ will move to Pattaya
Good for you. I left London for Thailand over 23 years ago and never looked back. I miss certain aspects of course but Thailand is a nice place to be. Wish you the best.
Thanks for sharing
If this isn't personal, what do you do there? How do you manage health care?
Good for you ! Follow your heart ❤life is way to short so many people end up wishing they had done more witth there lives ans while your fit and healthy go for it ❤❤❤❤ i wish you all the very very best ❤
🙂🙏🏼👍🏼
Darren we're not getting any older and stress is a real killer, whatever makes life easier and more enjoyable is better for you. Really happy for you, get stuck in and I cant wait for the videos to continue.
👍🏼🙂🙏🏼
Had plenty of holidays there and also lived there .Living there is a lot different to holidaying there
That depends on your bankroll and energy
@@johnshores6061no it aint
Fair wind and calm sea's on your new journey 😊
Wishing you all the best for your future, looking forward to following you and your new venture!
Take care!
Goodluck Darren hope all goes well life is for living and is short too make the most of it enjoy fair play to setting the sail best wishes.
Fantastic Darren !! I wish you all the best ..
Good for you mate! I came to England last year and tried a part time tech job, funny enough in Margate. It doesn't cut it even for me that rent a room in Canterbury. I am out very soon. My only regret is that I applied for a post grad visa and paid almost £3000 for it.
Good on you Darren. Best of luck with your new adventures mate
Thanks 👍
Hi Darren - Bold decision my friend but i think the correct one...The look on your face in the videos you posted shows how enamoured you are with the place and I am sure you will be happy there...I wish you all the best and look forward to some new content in the future.
I done it at 50 never looked back now 58 still living the dream go for it mate
Nice one Trev
Terrific idea! Do what you like to do and make more money at it while spending less in a place you're in love with. I'll definitely pop in every now and then to see how it's going. "Lots of luck"
The UK has declined fast. The smart people are looking to live elsewhere.
And people come back to use free nhs 🙄🙄🙄
Me too
Since when was the NHS free? @@lisacrane3143
@@lisacrane3143 why not. you paid in.
@ u move out the country u should be made to give all that up!!!!
Well done Darren, I don’t blame you one bit. Go with what your heart and head say. You’re looking so well which proves you’re doing the right thing. I wish you every happiness, you’ll have a much better quality of life.
By the way, I’m not receiving notifications still, I watch other videos from people I’ve subscribed to and that’s where you turn up. I don’t know what’s going on with UA-cam or if anyone else is having the same problem.
All the best fella keep doing what your doing you put out good content loved your restaurant review videos 👏
Good for you, Darren. You’re a lovely man. Wishing you all the best with the move to Thailand. Please keep posting your content.
Ha ha! The very best of luck to you
Nice one, thank you
Good luck to you darren, I’m out there on the 20th December for a month…
Will buy you a beer if I see you out there
Hi Darren
Well I made the move to Thailand 11 years ago and never have I regretted it

Hua hin best place to live i think.

Darren I've been in Thailand since 2007 a great decision life is on a different parallel over here never no regrets and a flight away if needed
There is so much you haven't seen yet
🙏🏼🙂👍🏼
Darren, best of luck to you. I am on month number 3 from leaving the States. Best move ever. Stress level is no more. Have fun finding the right place and good luck you won't regret it.
Thank you! Will do!
Different experience with different people, two friends of mine moved out there + one came back before 12 months and the other one 2 years and they said they were going to live perm out there....
We shall see what happens in his case!
Great news darren! this country is going downhill fast, im sure it will be the right decision for you, all the best!
