The main reason to why our eurovision songs suck nowadays is that we only use televoting in the semi-finals and andra chansen of our national selection. And a lot of people that watch is 5-10 year olds with terrible music taste, so yes that's why.

I'm glad Ireland won in 96 (I'm Irish what do you expect) but this was my personal winner. The quality of music in 96 was just so incredibly high. With Sweden, Norway and Ireland having beautiful songs that all could've won. I've also always been fond of the British entry and I thought 8th place was a bit harsh
      My top 5
      1- Sweden 🇸🇪
      2- Norway 🇳🇴

If I remember correctly upon reading about the group, I think it was mentioned that this song and other parts of the album it was on had help from a technician who also worked with Enya or Abba, one of the two.
Concerning the dreamy atmosphere I can definitely hear the Enya influences, and when it comes to some of the harmonies I hear some Abba-style influences there.

The magic, the enchantment, the legendary aspects of this, wow. When I watched this through the 1996 contest, it really stood out to me as it felt like I was plopped into a folk legend with Nanne and Maria's voices. I was reminded of a winter wonderland, and I'm really not sure whether to make this my winner of 1996 or Ireland. The ultimate winter song versus the spring song.

thinking of translating this for all of our non Swedish speaking listeners and viewers. personaly this is my favourite entry that Sweden has ever come up with in eurovision. i was born two years after this song came out, and i have dusty memmories of listening to it while i was sleeping in the car. we were going somewhere, and this song was playing softly on the radio ok, here we go!
the winter its lowering its veil, and imbeds the houses.
here that in the tavern it worms, and the food and the wine? i don't know how to translate the word krus here, but that will do.
there he is dancing with the wild one, they dance like werlpools in a waterfall.
filled with pride and will, they dance like werlpools in a waterfall.
men ryckten i stugorna sprids medan snöflingor faller.
but the rumers spread in the cottiges, while snowflakes fall.
stjärnorna gnistrar mot isen, som klara kristaller.
the stars shine against the ice, like clear crystals.
there he flees with the wild one, they run like werlpools in a waterfall.
the carage vanishes in the night, and the snow turns in to piles along the edge of the way.
the sound of the hoves ecos around the mountain, but playing without sadness or sorrow like a waterfall.
the night lowers its veil, and erraces the tracks.
wereever they are, they are the strength, like the streems of spring.
there, he dances with the wild one, dancing like werlpools in a waterfall.
filled with pride and willl, they dance like werlpools in a waterfall.
wild with pride and will, dancing like werlpools in a waterfall.
there! hope i did justice to the song. if there are any mistakes let me know. thanks for posting, hello from Sweden.

The sound of hoofs are still echoing in the mountains
      Playing carefreely like a waterfall
The night is lowering its veil and erasing the traces
Wherever they are, they're strong like the stream in springtime
There he dances with the wild one
They are dancing like whirls in a waterfall
      Filled with pride and willpower
Dancing like whirls in a waterfall
      Filled with pride and willpower
Dancing like whirls in a waterfall

James Cordon brought me here when he showed Nannes Carpool Karaoke song. I have never heard this song either which is crazy... I listened to her song when she competed in 2005. Did she actually come third in Eurovision?

This was third place 1996 in Eurovision! In the Swedish national selection her best placements as a solo artist is 4th (1998) and 2nd (2005), she actually got the most telephone votes 2005, but the juries wanted Martin Stenmark (BOOO!). In Sweden she's a household name :P

@@nadjanordingroning2758 I actually know that :) I am from sweden too. I watched Melodifestivalen and ESC each year until I kind of lost the interest. I actually had the DVD from 2004 and probably 2005 too. So I remember when she competed. Sure we have Benjamin and Bianca and a new generation of celebrities now, but Nanne is kind of like Carola. Really famous in Sweden. At least that is how I see it. I dont know if the younger kids know about her. I am 26.

I guess that she is like Madonna or something. No new music I have heard of but we still remember her and see her like a celebrity. Many celebrities in the world are still very famous because they used to be famous. Like Brad Pitt. He dont even have to make any new movies because I will still see him as one of the biggest actors in Hollywood.

Or at least to my awareness. And I absolutely think you're right, Nanne is ICONIC, an oldie, but a goodie! I felt so bad when she didn't qualify this year, despite maybe the lyrics being a bit... unconventional... ;) she ALWAYS puts on such a good show and she thrives on stage. I'm not sure if kids these days are into Nanne but I sure was when I was a kid!

@@nadjanordingroning2758 I guess that Nanne used this song to get younger fans and introduce them to her songs "Håll om mig" etc... The winter is lowering its veil and is tucking in the houses
The fire in the tavern warms us and the food and the jugs
There he dances with the wild one
They are dancing like whirls in a waterfall
    Filled with pride and willpower
Dancing like whirls in a waterfall
But rumours are spreading among the cottages
    While snowflakes are falling
The stars are sparkling against the ice like clear crystals
There he runs away with the wild one
They are rushing like whirls in a waterfall
    Filled with pride and willpower
Rushing like whirls in a waterfall
The carriage is disappearing in the night
And the snow becomes snowdrifts along the road
The sound of hoofs are still echoing in the mountains

In this wonderful World of ours, "especially" in Europe, there are so many different languages and there are so many beautiful songs, lyrics and messages hidden in the texts...and is "always" best sung in original language...
Not every song can/must be sung in English, as there's always a tiny thing lost in translation..
Like when I listen to songs in French, and then later hear the same song, but in English...
I think of "Vole" by Céline Dion...sorry, but the "it!" is lost that specific feeling/message isn't there anymore..
It's more powerful and touchs one's soul deeper in French than when sung in English...
Well, that's just my reality 😉
