Ive been relaxed for 20 years, almost to the day and my spirit was being pulled into the direction of transitiong to natural for a while and i made the decision as of last night to not relax my hair ( due for a touch up today) I will admit i am nervous about enbarking on this journey but i am ready. Thank you for your video!!
I might do it . I want to but kinda scared . I’ve had relaxed hair for a long time and it’s ok . I just wanna know how my natural hair is . I might like it
I did the big chop the first time I went natural in 2011. It was faster to grow my hair out and the length was even all over. Went back to relaxed in 2021 bc i wanted a pixie. Now im going back natural and transitioning with braids. I’ll take week long breaks from braids in between getting them redone but i think braids for me is the best bet. I used to be a wig girlie but i can’t see myself rocking one if it isn’t a v part wig.
Didn’t do the “big chop” and avoiding the blow dryer is super hard but did it here & there. Yes trims is a must!, avoid straighteners for sure, protective styles great but weaves def no I hate, braids is ok but itchy. It’s hard but we have to do What works for you, but I totally agree less multiplication a must & treatments
There’s no way I can do this without blow drying. Suppose I just want to stop relaxing my hair but still want a silk press look. That’s actually what I’m looking to do
Yeah I’ve done the same. I get my hair treated stil but no relaxer. I’m struggling whilst it’s growing out so I have to straighten it 😢 looks so frizzy I can’t get it down
These tips are so helpful! Thank you for this video. My patience has been running thin but I will definitely give it another go based on what you shared 💕
So encouraging! My last relaxer was December 2023. I found the most important tip was trimming and patience! How lucky am i that my twin had some hair training and trims my hair, as i'm going for the long term transition. Many days i think to myself WHAT AM I DOING?? I wear a lot of headwraps, headbands...the journey continues!❤
@@MsAjayi omg..me too. im just about to get my products for natural haircare for my first time.. 😢 all on my own too. i also decided to add protein treatment since my hair has always been relaxed as a hair routine since 7.
Blow drying worked for my transition. I guess do what works. Just use a few drops of heat protectant and stop blow drying when it’s dry. It helps hair to blend It takes a few minutes if short.
Just coming across your channel. I haven't had a relaxer since Jan/Feb and since it's summer, I plan to do braids most of the time, but I do like to give my hair a break, so right now I'm managing 2 textures of hair for the next 3 weeks until I get braids again. Lastly, I'll decide whether I'll go completely natural or return to relaxed for my 50th birthday, which is in November. Lol
I have to admit that I did a relaxer touch up again; however, I don't do it as much. Managing the two textures kicked my butt!! LOL!!! As your video stated, my mindset wasn't there and I didn't have a plan. I'll revisit at some point.
Very good advice! I wish your video was around when I transitioned. I spent SO much money on hair products. And patience; I had none. Lol. Thanks for sharing! 😊
I have a hair dresser and will have her help me transition. I will just be starting haven’t had a perm since February and was wearing braids. My first appointment to get my hair washed by my hair dresser is today. That’s my biggest thing what to do with my hair. I don’t wear weaves but I do like wigs, and rollers also.
This was great information, especially deciding on style. I have made the decision on it and it will not be a big chop. I’m someone who has to have length and cannot style short hair.
I’m going the protective style route ... my hair is very thick and I’m always busy so doing the twist outs and flexi rods is a absolute no . I did it for a month and I had a attitude with my hair every day because it took so long to put up but it came out pretty. I have a question which one of these is a good brand ? African Pride Moisture Miracle or The Mane choice .
Hey! So, I have never tried the African Pride brand. I have tried Mane Choice conditioners only...it was pretty good! Are you looking for a conditioner or just a brand to sick with?
I had lice recently and I just got a relaxer to relax my natural hair of 4 years and it was the most annoying thing to have happened to me, I'm transitioning again and I don't even know where to start anymore, but coming across your page is giving me life 🥺🥺🙏
😩 I was doing soo good during pandemic then they freed us & I went crazy with the cute hairstyles … now is really damaged & broken again, I been debating a bald new start (big big chop) but I ain’t with the mental during the growth stage …. I think I rather braid & cut slowly
This has been helpful......im just 4 months into transitioning...i feared to chop the hair bse i had done it before but my cheeks bulged.....so will keep trimming the ends n staying away from dryers
I will be starting college for the first time soon and I don't want this transition to be problematic for me. I want to know if you'd recommend that I wait until I am older since I have been contemplating a lot(I am wearing extenstions now in a twist style). I have had my hair relaxed since as long as I can remember so I haven't had to do much with it at all!
Im 3 weeks into my transition and its going well i jusy need to have more patience lol lord have mercy i want to cut it all off ..... but i have a fat face and i know short hair wont suit me
I got a bad relaxing in Walmart smartstyle in Feb 2024 , and they charged me $200 and hair became so thin and damaged and started 50% falling off so much 😢. I have very thick hair and now it’s like 1/3rd of it . I am planning to get a 3 inches chopped in October . I am using warm oil treatment once in a week .
Will the blow dryer really damage your hair? I leave in a cold state, and having my air dry will take at least 24 to 48 hours to dry, which could be a problem when the temperature drops again.
I think any heat used too often could damage your hair. I have REALLY thick hair so the times I used a blow dryer I didn't have any other option. If you're twisting your hair I suggest a hooded dryer for at least 15min to knock the cold off. Hope this helps and thank you for watching. :)
I need help!!!! No heat??? My roots are about 3 inches fluffed but mid shaft is straight. I’ve gotten relaxers for over 30 years then stopped in October 2023, and so far 3 keratin treatments last one was March 1st this year. I’m so lost to what to do next. I don’t do weaves or sew-ins. I’m just lost. I feel I need a relaxer which is so much easier and convenient. I have no idea what products to use. I’m just clueless
If I go the braid route how long do you suggest not having the hair braided once you take the braids out and then how would you suggest styling the hair during those periods since heat isn’t suggested?
Hi! Id say start with a couple weeks since the hair is transitioning. That will allow you to deep condition and trim your hair. I''d suggest a twist out if the relaxed ends can blend in well. I did talk about what I personally did it between styles in another video. It will all depend on your hair type. I hope this helps. :)
what if I wat to transition but i want to put heat on my hair (blow drying)? also is it okay if I blow dry with cold air? if not what temperature do i use
Hello, I would minimize all heat including blow drying. If cold hair dries and stretches your hair, try it out. However I have not. I use medium heat setting.
hey my mom wont let me get a big chop but i told her i wanted to go back natural so i'm going natural and cant cut the ends and its killing me its because we have to love our hair
Can you please tell me how to transition from perm to natural while coloring my hair. I am pretty much fully gray and I’m not ready to wear my gray hair out yet. And I have not permed my hair in about three months so I do want to start the natural transition and so far it’s been very difficult I’ve been wearing wigs hair wraps and it does get very tiresome. But I would like to start I know I have a way to go probably another good two years. Thank you
Hello! Thank you for watching. I'd say try braids for the summer. I found the easiest way to manage my transition was with braids, wigs and weaves. If you use dark color, maybe try a rinse instead of permanent color as it may be too harsh for transitioning hair. It could potentially break off. However, everyone's hair is different. :) I hope this helps.
How am I supposed to deep condition once a week if I'm wearing a protective style???? Braids or sew ins are too expensive to take out after just a week!!
It's been 3 months now and my god its so hard to handle . Its so thick 😢 i could feel some curl but each part of my hair texture is different. I cant even comb the back 😭 lol
My mom relaxed my hair without telling me. My cousin said that I should not continue cuz it’s really damaging my hair. Thx god my mom knows how to relax hair. So I told my mom and now she want my natural hair back and she helps me finding products ❤
