- Using Vaseline in the Darkroom for creative portrait printing. The creative ideas in a darkroom are endless. Here I use Vaseline to take the clean cut look away from this portrait.
preciosa foto le ha quedado genial.
Can I open the beer before putting the negative in the enlarger? Lol Great video as usual, informative and entertaining. Thanks!
love the third step with the beer! jaja great photographs
You are a true definotion of an artist
Excellent stuff. Short succinct informative and to the point. Please keep them coming
Very innovative! Really enjoying your tutorials, keep up the great work! Really like the black mount on the finished framed print, looks really effective. Nice change from the pale cream/ off white mounts!
Clive Vincent Thank you Clive. Agree, The black mounts compliment dark prints well.
Man you're doing an amazing work in this channel. I'm new to the darkroom techniques, and this is helping a lot. Thank you
Thanks Michel
Good print!
Nice technique
I had a friend way back in 1995 ish time frame when we were all shooting film. He used a crumpled piece of plastic wrapping from a cigarette pack under the enlarger lens for his portraits. He would move it a little for just a second or two and the images look amazing. Shape but soft at the same time. Vary the time for more or less effect.
That sounds interesting. Might have to give that a go!
I wonder why you have 4 dislikes here? They probably prefer a shandy as it couldn’t be anything to do with the art work. Brilliant stuff my friend
Cheers Bob. I'll drink to that. 🍻
Interesting
Brilliant
Try using a nylon stockings over the lens for a smoth look...make a hole in it and you get a sharper center.
Yes it does work. I also noticed the stocking lowers the contrast. Do you find that?
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss yes but it's interesting to try sometimes
always great stuff;=)
+Gianni Di Girolamo Thanks Gianni.
Brilliant!!!
Thanks Nicholas
Great tip
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the video. Interesting and effective use of petroleum jelly. If you have any difficulty getting consistent prints during a single printing session, watch for variations in developer temperature during the session and consider using more developer solution in your print tray to get more consistent results. It looks like you’re using about a quart of diluted developer in the tray. Over the course of a printing session, 5 x 7 prints developed in small trays require a fair amount of active developer, and after multiple prints have been made, the developer working solution can become exhausted, resulting in less dense dark tones, marginal mid-tones and less crisp images. For what it is worth, to avoid that problem, I typically develop prints in 11 x 14 trays filled with about 3 to 4 liters of working strength developer. If I don’t finish a project that day, I either store the developer overnight in a sealed glass bottle, or cover that tray with plastic wrap, floating the wrap on the surface of the fluid to minimize oxidation. Thanks again for making the video.
Thanks for the tip!
Beautiful shit my friend
Shot not shit!
Lol
😂😁
Very nice - used to use vasoline regularly on a plain (cokin) filter back in the day - the fog filters were too uniform
Nice I've been thinking of how to alter darkroom prints; this is great. My only thought so far was to try some prisms or like a glass orb but I don't have one yet. Feel free to do a video on it if you do is like to see some more experiments. Glad I found your channel, subscribed :)
omnesilere Never thought of prisms! Good shout. Thanks for sub.
or you can use woman stocking on the enlarger lens to make it soft
very interesting! Good idea. I tried it at shooting and put vaseline partially on an UV filter but never at enlarging.
Would be interesting if the use of a fifth beer had some influence at the print…
Im addicted!
Could you do a video on the split grade printing?.. I've seen a few other long rambling vids about it, but would be curious to see your take.. again, loving these concise vids. I'v been shooting and developing film for forever but have a long way to go in the darkroom.
Poppaneedsanap I made a print a while back split grading with no filter and C5 filter for contrast. Here it is. ua-cam.com/video/DKwAK_OHag8/v-deo.html
Apparently, nylon stockings stretched over the print for part of the exposure has an even finer appearance - though I've never tried it. They used to have texture screens you could stretch over the easel. This was better than those you put in contact with the negative.
I've tried stockings. I made a gadget where I could stretch it over the lens. Softer less contrast look if I remember. Must try it again.
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss Interesting. Stretching it evenly is the difficulty, I guess. I did try Vaseline on a UV filter in front of my camera lens. I found the effect a little too strong and hard to control. Trying to figure out how the Hollywood cameramen of yesteryear used gauze in front of the camera to enhance women's faces, like Ingrid Bergman's. You can tell when it was used, the women's faces seemed to glisten in the light. Thanks for all your uploads . They're informative and entertaining.
what grain magnifier is that you use? I find the more conventional ones hurt my eye, even stopped pretty far down
I've been asked this question many times Terry. I don't know. There's no name on it. I found it in a old antique shop. It's quite old. It's bakelite. Works pretty well though. Thanks.
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss very similar at Kaiser focusing magnifier 4007
Hey man, awesome content.. quick question: are you doing your Prints also with such small Apertures? Or just for focusing? I wonder If i get sharper prints by going up with the Aperture
I have a video on that about 2 months ago. Have a scroll. I always aim couple stops down from the lenses widest
What is your focusing scoponet model ? Love it !
It's really old!
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss old ? Is it a joke ? It seems pretty young
Great image, I really like it. But you never used the beer so it must have gone to waste, what a shame!
Ha ha!!
