BTW, there are a few of us ahead of you with getting it IFR certified in the UK (but no-one has started the process as yet). Our plane (and Tim's Sling 2) have a single g3x plus a G5. Neither of us have bothered with a NAV box as VORs are being phased out. We also have a standard mode S (with ads-b out) so very jealous of the gnx 375 which looks like a great piece of kit.

Richard did you get approval to use all 4 seats? I was speaking to an LAA inspector the other day about building a 4-seater kit like the sling and he said the most you’d get approval for is 3 people - is that your experience?

I plan a very similar panel layout. I plan to ask Midwest to provision for a second G3X on the right (make the panel cutout and wiring harness). That way if I decided to add one down the road, I can just drop it in, plug it in, configure it and go. In the meantime, I’ll just mount an iPad over there. I think I’ll ask them to hinge the glovebox on the right. That way the weight of the iPad won’t tend to open the glovebox door in turbulence, and it will be easily accessible from the left seat. I’m planning to go with VPX. Not having the CB’s on the right side gives me a cleaner panel and maybe I can have a larger glove compartment, perhaps the same size as a G3X cutout.

That's great to have that flexibility of adding a second screen later. I like your idea of the glovebox hinge on the right. The glovebox is actually quite small and sits above the LRU rack behind the panel, so that's limiting its size and position. For me it will be mostly VFR flying for sometime. In a few years time, there might be newer upgrades available.

Been enjoying following you - another one I’ve heard is that you need DME to be able to do ILS approaches in the UK. Many procedures state DME mandatory, I know Garmin don’t make one was advised Id have to go with a bendix king remote DME. Works with the GTN650 and I imagine 255. Have you come across that at all with your subsequent discussion with the LAA?

Hi Rob, thanks. I've heard about that. I'm just hoping by the time I have to put mine for IFR approval, they might start to accept GPS based DME to do these ILS approaches. If not just won't be able to do those ILS approaches that mandate a DME with my current avionics setup.

@@slingbuilduk400 definitely hope that’s going to be the case. The bendix king DMEs are a small fortune although there are some 2nd hand. Have you had any preliminary discussions with the LAA about the removal of day VFR?

@@robbrooks5181 I haven't had that discussion with the LAA. One of the other builders have and looks like my avionics setup should be complaint.

A few comments (from a Sling 4 flyer). First I think you will need an audio box. The Garmin radio only feeds 2 intercoms and you will need 4. We were sold a little box from audio spruce but (cost aside) you may be better with the Garmin. Not sure what you need the manual slip indicator for. Think about whether you can put the toggles elsewhere, getting into and out of our aircraft you can get caught on the g3X knobs so really wouldn't want the toggles where you plan them - ours are on the centre of the panel. Best of luck!

Hi Richard, thanks for your feedback. There is a GMA 245R audio panel remote mounted in the avionics list. I put in the VOR NAV option mainly for my own training as I'm yet to start IFR training. I will take a look at the toggle switch position as you mentioned when climbing in and out of the pilot seat👍

Curious about your decision to go with circuit breakers instead of a VP-X. Love your panel ideas, especially the slip/skid indicator.

Thanks, my choice of single G3x screen meant a single point failure for accessing the VP-X. Also here in the UK, the agency that overseas amateur build aircrafts are yet to approve it's use. CB's were cheaper and panel space was not much of an issue for me.

@@slingbuilduk400 got it, thanks! I just put my order in for the kits (to arrive in March?) and I’m already stressing about the avionics decision. Best of luck.

Hi - thanks for the update... been watching your progress for a while now and my kit is due in late January. I'm not familiar with the IFR rules in the UK, but you may want to consider watching (if you haven't already) Midwest's review between the 375 and 650 at ua-cam.com/video/vQZAm0EnBrc/v-deo.html. After watching this IMHO it settles the discussion of which one to get and I'll be getting the 650. Also, have you considered getting the remote second radio? It'll clean the panel up a bit more and I don't think the cost is that much different.
The only other suggestion I might have is to see if Midwest can help future proof the panel a bit by making it in such a way that if you should chose to add a second screen later on, the panel provides a method of popping out the blank on the right to receive the 2nd screen.
I'm going whole hog on my panel (at least until my wife gets ahold of me) and doing dual screens with everything remote as possible.

GTN650 with remote radio as backup would have made a cleaner panel. However Garmin doesn't do a remote radio with 8.33khz spacing required in the UK. Second screen was sacrificed to keep the costs down. An iPad will have to do on my budget 😁

@@slingbuilduk400 Ah - yup, that would definitely be where I wasn't aware of the limitation. IMHO the iPad/Foreflight as a second/backup panel is a really good option. I'm staying current in a 172 with steam and it's amazing how much more and accurate information the HSI on the iPad gives...

@@ibgarrett I will be mostly flying VFR at least for a few years. Here in the UK, any new amatuer build aircraft will have to fly at least for an year before it can be put in for IFR approval. So it's all while away😁
