Hi Mike, it does affect the handling of the aircraft. More trim would be needed when lightly loaded. It's been forced on us by the local regulator. So we had to do it to get approval in the UK. Sling have declared it as optional for other markets.
@@slingbuilduk400 Yeah, I'm thinking I may want to do it anyway - a little more trim seems like a fair trade for the CG benefits! (Unless stability is negatively affected, but I understand it's meant to improve longitudinal static stability.)
@@oliviermolinari its Notification 09 published on 10 Dec 2021. Trim tab is also adjusted after removing the counterweight. Again this is only mandatory in the UK. Are you not able to access it from the sling aircraft owner support page?
@@slingbuilduk400 Got it! I was checking in the dropbox Notifications folder but it's not there yet. I might consider removing it too, it will improve my aft Cg since I have the parachute.
I'm really curious about why the UK thinks removing a designed piece of equipment is expected. It seems to me that counter weight is necessary for proper balancing of the elevator.
Congratulations! Very exciting - looks awesome! Have throughly enjoyed following each update - dare I ask the cost so far 😅? Also - it looks as though you have all the equipment to fly IFR - but limited to VMC? Is IFR not possible with the Sling under the permit to fly with the LAA, or is it just a case of extra paperwork?
Thanks, yes hopefully of getting the Day VFR limitation lifted after a year of flying. Some more paperwork will have to be done at the time, but should be ok. As for the costs, it hasn't been cheap 😰
As per the flight tests carried out by the UK regulatory body, at full aft CoG loading and full power applied, the aircraft is inherently unstable in the pitch axis. Removing the elevator counterweights allowed the aircraft to stabilize itself without pilot inputs on the control stick. Also note the Sling 2 & 4 never had a full weight balanced elevator. For me it was mandatory to get approval.
Congrats! Looking forward to the first flight.
Congratulations! Your TSi looks terrific! I'm surprised Jimmy hasn't responded with a CLEAR PROP! lol
I am hooked on watching Jimmy. Haven't flown in over 30 years, but sure makes me want to get back to flying.
Thanks, I love Jimmy's world. Pastor Jim my favourite 🤣
Congrats.... You've done a great job on building such a fantastic aircraft. Happy Skies...
Congrats Ashok, lovely looking A/C. Chocks away & blue sky’s 👍
Congratulations. I hope to get my TSI ready by late Spring. My colour's will be opposite to yours. Enjoy the first flights.
Glad you are official! Looks great!
Nice! I didn't know about the elevator weight removal until this video. Good to know, and helps with the CG, too. Bonus!

Congratulations! Thanks for sharing your experiences.
Van harte gefeliciteerd!!👍
Well done Ashok! Looking so good. Bet you cannot wait to fly.
Congratulations! I am excited about seeing another TSi in the air!
Congratulations and CLEAR PROP!
Congratulations! 🍾 🥂
Awesome! Nicely done. Thanks for taking us on your journey - really like your videos.
Congrats, and looping forward to your next flying episode 👌
Congratulations!!! It looks fantastic…
Looking too good i really appreciate u r work congrats 💓
Amazing bhai. You are genius
Excellent😀
Is the removal of the elevator counterweight described in a new SB?
Its not an SB. Its Service Notification #009 and is available on the Sling TSi owner support page of the factory website.
@@slingbuilduk400 Notification #09 is about elevator trim tab servo attachment, not about removing elevator counterweight!

@@slingbuilduk400 Hopefully worth every penny once you're up in the air with it! Would love to build one some day looks like a great plane.
How easy is it for one person to build this. I don’t have any build experience nor tools.
You can easily acquire all the tools required to build in under £1k. Also going the quick build route makes it a bit easier
What is the intended benefit of removing the elevator counter weight ? Other than satisfying the SB. Obviously helps cg, but is that the only reason?

@@slingbuilduk400 thanks for the additional information
Amazing! How long has it taken you to get to this point from receiving the first delivery?
Thanks. It took 20 months from first kit to finish. A bit longer than I initially thought, but has been fun.
