If you continue the dive into RXK discography, Slither Conspiracy would be the perfect follow up song to this. If you liked American Tterroristt you’ll love Slither Conspiracy.
@1bird_d "Then Neph states, 'that loud smell like Lil Reese when he shitted'. Now what's interesting is that Nephew already referenced Lil Reese PSD drawers in an earlier bar, meaning Neph knows he didn't actually shit himself when he was jumped on camera; it was just the design on his underwear that looked like shit. Yet he keeps knowingly referencing this false interpretation of the video, and these two different truths coexist in the same song, battling for control"
one of my favorite lines from this song is "She like, "Come on, Neph, let me tell your future." "I'm like, "Bitch, I'm off more molly than Future." "I'm like, "Bitch, I might die tomorrow." it truly shows that not only is his scope of our reality fully materialistic and skeptical of the spiritual, but it's a comparison of approaches to the fear of death. the woman in question is confronting death and the meaning/workings of life with the aformentioned tarot cards/new age spirituality, while nephew is completely disengaged with any approach to facing death and life itself. he describes not only being off loads of molly, but also how he would be completely okay dying in that state. it sort of points to hedonism in a vague sense. he points to the reality that nothing matters, is high off his rocker, and would be okay with that being his final state because it is the chase of pleasure. regardless if that was the implication or not, his lyricism is insanely impressive for it to be heading arrows to a whole philosophy (hedonism) in 3 lines without mentioning hedonism nor specific philosophies whatsoever. tarot cards, molly, and death. AVAA.
He also states "everyone in the world is hypocrites" aligning himself with everyone else as he sees himself flawed just as everyone hence the line about abusing women.
454 when? Also Nephew has stated the "How I'm African American?" line was also about him having a mix of lineages. He's really a part Asian-Latino-Black American but because he's black everyone has been taught to say African American
Rxk nephew 100% a moralist. A generational talent at seeing right through people and dressing ANYone down with his words, and he'll always pick your biggest idols to do it with. I feel he is so against idolization that he even actively dissuades the listener from admiring he himself. This is why I feel there's this constant and deliberate juxtaposition in his music between criticizing anything and everything sacred before inviting scrutiny upon himself as well. He'll anyways intrigue you with some genius insight immediately before saying something intentionally upsetting and stupid. It goes way deeper than sheer edginess- it's true provocateur shit. Who is rxk nephew really? Is he a good guy or not? He doesn't want to paint his own picture of virtue and ask the listener to agree. I feel that he aims to provoke the listener into thinking for themselves and taking answers from no one else just like he does
Hey Prof Skye, amazing video. This song deserves way more love, and I'm hoping this video will get more people to dive into RXK Nephew's discography. Fingers crossed for an interview between you and RXK Nephew someday - that would be crazy.
AVAA - Professor, thank you so much for combining my inclinations for academic analysis as a student and unfounded love for trap music. You show that they're not mutually exclusive worlds, making my academic and personal experiences less jarring
Amazing video so far, very excited to finish it, love this song too I only say this bc i love epistemology, think epistemology is more a study of the relationship of the knower + known than it is a theory of knowledge. Knowledge is like a category of object in that relationship, but epistemology applies to how i know my mom or how you know your kids, and there's far more than knowledge to that 😊 so, that's why I use epistemology instead of just saying theory of knowledge
AVAA - I have followed RXKNephew for a while and I believe that the critical thought process of Nephew is amazing. Obviously I also think that there are aspects in his songs like beating women are aspects of a character "slither man" where he can view himself from an outside point of view and critique himself in some aspects. I think that the thinking aspect of Nephew is the positive, but the negative parts are displayed openly to both humanize himself and accept what he has done and experienced. IDK tho im just a college kid and never thought much deeper than this when I was listening to this track a few months before this video came out.
Furthermore on the aspect of Eve I think that instead of focusing his anger and attention to god, he should find comfort that Adam loved Eve enough that he was willing to leave paradise to continue to live with her, demonstrating a powerful bond. In fact, on his instagram Nephew has been struggling to find his partner that he can love in such a way. Truly opened my eyes when you stated that this song can be interpreted as an autobiography.
Ngl I really thought this was a meme but it turned out to be an amazing hour of my time. I like that even when you criticize some of the lyrics, you take the time to break it down and understand what is being said. Also the last thing you said is so so true. I have an anxiety disorder and I struggled a lot during my last semester. Even though it was hard I finally communicated to my professors and they understood me and gave me more time to finish what I needed to finish. Now I get to walk the stage in a couple days when I really thought I had to retake a semester! I’m rambling but I guess I’m saying communication is essential and that I appreciate you saying that last bit as well as a really great analysis of a RXNephew song

You should review slither-man activated by nephew. I genuinely believe it is one of if not the best rap albums of the decade so far. It revolves around this provocative character named slither-man that he consistently plays throughout his discography, including on this song. It probably didn’t get the critical love it deserved at the time because he was considerably smaller than he is now but as he has grown people have identified that it is his best album.
so excited to see this this is one of my favorite songs of all time it is absolutely insane. Jaw dropped after hearing it and I've been a huge fan of him and his contemporary RX Papi. They both have some other songs that are also long opuses like this such as slither conspiracy. RX papi has a very similar style song to this called "Therapy session" which is 20 minutes long!!! This was a wonderful and genuinely thought provoking video. I came in expecting a joke, but left thinking about the song in a whole different way. I’d love to hear your opinion on acid souljah’s “union guy” and “American tip culture”
Love this video. Think he says "Bitch im praying to my money rag" aka a bandana with a 100 dollar bill pattern which he owns, and is a reoccurring object/character in both RXKNephew and Rx Papi's music. I think this carries essentially the same meaning as "money racks" but with the added significance that a bandana holds: traditionally used to signal allegiance to a gang, Neph has a money rag since his only allegiance is to getting money. Also "they both use water to convert people to their way of life" sheeeesshhhhh
The water line was entirely improvised and I never thought of it until I said it. You can see in my face right after saying it that I was like "damn, did I just go there?"
The way I would put it is that people like him are a danger to the “system” not society itself. He’s a prime of example of someone who knows how to think 🤔 💭 rather than someone that knows what to think 🤖.

I think it’s great that you’re giving academic voice to this song and that you grant it merit despite disagreeing with some of the language and violent ideas. a lot of people just immediately get put off from that. I’m a toilet twitter philosopher myself and I love neph and this video couldn’t have been a better introduction to your channel for me.
I feel as though rxk’s attack on women is indicative of his frustrations with societies inequities and his feelings of powerlessness. As a result, Nephew perpetuates this injustice on women and continues the cycle of violence. This is why rxk cites the Bible(society) when explaining his rationale for violence against women

AVAA, also prof skye rx papi his friend is on the same level, he has this album called foreign exchange that sounds like intrusive thoughts over very forward new age hyper pop it’s a incredible experience
This has barely anything to do with the video, but one word that always bugged me and my friend who is a philosopher is Gramsci’s “hegemony.” Not because it’s not useful (it certainly is), but it’s often used in textbooks that defang Gramsci of his Marxist beliefs. We also talked about how the same can be seen in everyone from Vygostky to Shostakovich to Brecht to even the diluting of Marx himself. Random rant about terminology and Marx aside, this was an AVAA! It blew my mind the first time I heard it, and hearing your input about every little detail of it was really fascinating. And no, I won’t bring up Wittgenstein because I don’t wanna give myself a headache.
This is the first time i seen someone else reference this banger. Seeing as this is a 1 hour analysis i see your giving it the coverage depth it deserves
On your point regarding “How the F*** am I an African American, I’m an American Tterroristt” - I interpreted it as a statement on what it means to be an American regardless of background/ethnicity, etc.. as in no matter how different we are and wherever we fall on a scale of privilege as it pertains to our ethnicity, we all have a uniquely brutal mentality informed from American culture, and it presents in different ways based on how you’re defined within that framework. To be American is to be vindictive, self-righteous, and willing to stop at nothing for your ideology, same as any “t*errorist”. Just my two cents though. Loved the video
Love this video, so glad you made it. I first heard this song like 2 years ago and i showed it to all my friends but nobody really engaged with me about it like this. It blew my mind and I think about it all the time
Every time i watch ur videos i just wanna write a paragraph or 2 about how moving and thought-provoking ur content is . Thank u always coming thru with top tier content AVAA
I disagree that RXK is misogynist - he puts shock value in his songs for comedic purposes, he says a lot about celebrities just because he thinks it's funny
Also, I think he's doing it intentionally because a figure like Chris Brown wants to act like he cares so much about women, whereas Nephew, satirically, goes mask off in supporting Brown's actions - if Chris Brown heard this song, he would probably hate what Neph said, even if it's supporting what he did. The best analogy I could give are anti-Semitic Trump supporters. Donald Trump has, to my knowledge, never said anything bad about the Jewish people (he also loves Israel), but he's co-opted and benefited a ton from the anti-Semitic QAnon conspiracy theory. If you asked him about Jewish people, he wouldn't say anything bad, but ask his supporters (increasingly extreme as the Internet continues to polarize) and I guarantee you'll find a lot of people that believe in some conspiracy theories about them "running the world".
sky, you need to check out "Beam on ya toes" by RXK Nephew. This song has the funniest, most memorable and craziest lines I've ever heard in any song. I swear every line is so brilliant. I want to know what you think!
AVAA I would love it if you reviewed older Drain Gang works, specifically the Bladee album Eversince. It would be cool to contrast fairy, whimsical Bladee with the wintery vampiric Bladee of his earlier projects.
Much love from Denmark. I find all of this very fascinating. Rap like this is very telling of todays society, what goes through our minds? Instead of hearing it from some talking head from a gated community. Also because you are american and your society is like GTA from over here
Hello great analysis, you said the only spiritual thing that neph believes in is Jesus and that humans killed Jesus, which relates to his materialistic outlook, but I think you overlooked the line where he says, “I believe in God but I ain’t too religious” despite all of his concerns relating to organized religion and materialism he still does believe in a higher power. Almost could be considered a critique of materialism and how it distracts from life’s unanswerable questions.
okay for the record i don't study philosophy OR believe abusing women is cool, but i think rxknephew uses the lines about that matter to show that despite the nature of the song literally being "question everything", there are still some parts of society and especially around the environment that are so deeply embedded in him, that despite his best attempts to remain 100% skeptical, he is still a product of the place, people and culture he was raised around and will never truly achieve this enlightenment he's trying so hard to reach throughout the entire song. i just hope it's satire and he's doing this on purpose 🤞🤞 great video!

I agree
ok its not funny
This came up in my algorithm so good shit
Avaa. One of your best!
Now I’m thinking about dogs and death. But I have to go listen to the track before I get lost in all that.

Praying to my money rag*
AVAA, also prof skye rx papi his friend is on the same level, he has this album called foreign exchange that sounds like intrusive thoughts over very forward new age hyper pop it’s a incredible experience
Agreed! But i would not consider the production hyperpop at all. Def cloud rap w some plugg elements too
that shit is not hyperpop lil bro😂
This has barely anything to do with the video, but one word that always bugged me and my friend who is a philosopher is Gramsci’s “hegemony.” Not because it’s not useful (it certainly is), but it’s often used in textbooks that defang Gramsci of his Marxist beliefs. We also talked about how the same can be seen in everyone from Vygostky to Shostakovich to Brecht to even the diluting of Marx himself.
Random rant about terminology and Marx aside, this was an AVAA! It blew my mind the first time I heard it, and hearing your input about every little detail of it was really fascinating. And no, I won’t bring up Wittgenstein because I don’t wanna give myself a headache.
pls bring him up actually
This is the first time i seen someone else reference this banger. Seeing as this is a 1 hour analysis i see your giving it the coverage depth it deserves
this is probably among the most important videos on this website
Immediately adds to "Goated videos of youtube" playlist before i even watch
Just when I thought I couldn’t like Skye anymore he does this. AVAA
avaa! you have to be seriously weird and cool to tackle this song from this angle, and you’ve got me convinced . huge respect
haven't even pressed play yet but already, thank you
AVAA -> love your delivery in these videos and the directness of your speech and analysis. Great video!
Satire looks sincere to morons
amazing analysis but was really weighed down by you mentioning "it was written" as Nas' best album and not Illmatic
Got unreasonably excited when I saw the Hank Williams bobblehead
Therapy Session by Rx Papi next
thank you for this truly
sky, you need to check out "Beam on ya toes" by RXK Nephew. This song has the funniest, most memorable and craziest lines I've ever heard in any song. I swear every line is so brilliant. I want to know what you think!
AVAA
I would love it if you reviewed older Drain Gang works, specifically the Bladee album Eversince. It would be cool to contrast fairy, whimsical Bladee with the wintery vampiric Bladee of his earlier projects.
Ive been waiting on this forever
Much love from Denmark. I find all of this very fascinating. Rap like this is very telling of todays society, what goes through our minds? Instead of hearing it from some talking head from a gated community. Also because you are american and your society is like GTA from over here
However the themes of your society is painting countries like even Denmark. Our prisons are slowly becoming overpopulated etc etc
Not sure what i just stumbled upon but this youtube channel may align better with my interests than any other youtube channel ever
this is going to be a highlight of my year
Love your analysis!
This is amazing
this is amazing, good job
Does this song remind anyone else of Brothers Karamazov
Wow
American tterroristt is a modern Grand Inquisitor. Slither Conspiracy is like Notes from Underground imo
I didnt know i needed this professor but this is a criminally underrated analysis and lane of critique in general, please keep it up.
You NEED to listen to Lil Ugly Mane's Uneven Compromise. Like THIS instant. You could dissect that song for hours in front of your class.
aava playa GOD BLESS We get this review thank jah
Hello great analysis, you said the only spiritual thing that neph believes in is Jesus and that humans killed Jesus, which relates to his materialistic outlook, but I think you overlooked the line where he says, “I believe in God but I ain’t too religious” despite all of his concerns relating to organized religion and materialism he still does believe in a higher power. Almost could be considered a critique of materialism and how it distracts from life’s unanswerable questions.
THANK YOU FOR THIS!!! Pure entertainment gold.
Can we get slither conspiracy next??
Got extra geeked up to watch this one
Real..
Dogmas do have to be stopped from the perspective of a skeptic
AVAA. If you like sticking to new music then it's fortunate timing because his latest album "Life After Neph" with Harry Fraud is quite good
okay for the record i don't study philosophy OR believe abusing women is cool, but i think rxknephew uses the lines about that matter to show that despite the nature of the song literally being "question everything", there are still some parts of society and especially around the environment that are so deeply embedded in him, that despite his best attempts to remain 100% skeptical, he is still a product of the place, people and culture he was raised around and will never truly achieve this enlightenment he's trying so hard to reach throughout the entire song. i just hope it's satire and he's doing this on purpose 🤞🤞
great video!
Cann you do 12 stout street which is a song by rx papi the one he refers to as his brother, which he fell out with in the past also doing slither conspiracy analysis would be a good follow up to this really really enjoyed this content
Honestly I appreciate this analysis. It was deserved, and also the artist has some really nice concepts!
