I just left CA after living there for 58 years. After much research I decided on TN. My home in the Sac area on 1 acre had a tax rate of $9K per year. My new home in TN on 2 acres is $1k per year. I registered 4 vehicles in TN for a total of $220 per year. The same vehicles in CA was over $2K per year. Gas prices in TN are currently $2.79/Gal. So I figure I basically got a $20K per year raise by moving to TN. I'm retired and on a fixed income so the savings is a big deal.

There are definitely some perks to TN, we had some neighbors mention the same thing about the registration and the speed it took to be in and out. Congrats on the move.

Taxes, nonconservative policies, high crime, high homelessness, huge cost of rent, high cost of everything from food to gas, too loud, too many people, too many fire danger issues and you cant see the stars. Moved out of there and dont regret moving to a rural town with less than 1600 people in it. I dont understand why people are staying in California at all. If you live there you are more than likely paying around 75 percent of what you make in taxes to ca and the feds, sales tax, property tax, gas tax, power tax now with the rich paying for electricity they dont even use, and dmv fees and smoging your car. And all the corruption is rampant there, the governor and pge making money together. We werent going to stay and continue to fund their liberal utopia with our tax dollars.

literally every single state ( "people are started to move in'", " there's so much more traffic", "car dependency", "infrastructure", etc..) it's true but at the same time every state seems to be over populated these days. not enough supply, undeveloped in certain area. That's why so many constructions and whatnot are taking place. I moved from New York to Florida it's all the same exact thing like you said.

Traffic is definitely on the top of my list. I’m from Solano county where it takes 15 minutes to go 15 miles. But in Sacramento it takes 35-45 min minutes to go the same distance. It’s insane. And not mention you get stopped at every single intersection. Very rare to get through two green lights in a row.

Between Autumn 1974 and Spring 1979, the state and local authorities cancelled seven freeways that would have served the region. Four of those freeways would involve crossing the American River. One of the crossings would have been immediately west of the Business 80 bridge over the American River. Three additional crossings would have been east of Watt Avenue, and west of Hazel Avenue. Driving from Folsom to Roseville takes 45 minutes on the arterial surface level streets. Had the entire system been built, one could drive from Folsom to Roseville in about 20 minutes. The Sacramento County Board of Supervisors cancelled the construction of four freeways in 1974, with a three to two vote. In 1995, the Sacramento Bee interviewed two of the supervisors who voted down the freeways, and they admitted they regret their vote. The other supervisor had a developer brother-in-law who bought up the right of way in Wilhaggin and built houses.

Such good points, all! Taxes: Minnesota is right up there with high taxes. The big difference between MN and CA is that CA does NOT tax Social Security. MN finally signed this into law but it doesn't look like it takes effect until tax year 2024(hope I'm wrong and we can finally take advantage of this in MN for 2023). Traffic: non-issue for a retiree. Same as here. We just avoid going out during rush hours. Twin Cities has roughly 1 million more people so.....Gas tax: ah, thanks for explaining why CA's gas is so much higher. I can live with that. Really the only "worry" I have is the fire season. BUT, there is NO perfect place to live. Everywhere has something negative. There is no "unicorn" place to live. But anyway, thanks as always for the great information!

It is true about the traffic, it has become much worse will all the houses built along HWY 5 going into to Sac from Woodland. About the water, If we are in such bad shape why do they continue to build these very large homes in huge developments and every winter we watch BILLIONS of gallons of water go right out through the delta? Water is the new "GOLD" and the ones who own the water rights don't want to see more water storage in the state ( supply and demand ) The water that flows out of Northern CA. is sold to Southern CA and Las Vegas. Are water issues are a scam. Let's talk about property, we have Prop13 which equates to 1 1/4 percent of the purchase price of the property, I have lived in other States and they operate on a " Mill Rate " and what ever it cost that town or city to operate will be past right towards your property tax. I bought in CT in 2000 and at that time the property tax was $3300. a year I sold that house in 2010 and the taxes had risen to $8000. a year with ZERO added services. If you really want to cut to the chase as to the true down fall of California, it is because of the long term effects of democratic liberal polices, soft on crime, raising the limit to $950. to be a misdemeanor has started a wave of shoplifting that is so out of control. Defunding the police has turned Oakland and San Francisco into a nightmare. Basically these polices don't want to hold people accountable. If you really want to talk about the mas exodus from CAL. It's governor Newsom's wealth tax that he is trying to pass, even if you leave the state he wants to have the ability to go back 5 years and tax you. He is being groomed to throw his hat in the ring for the 2028 presidency.

Cal Expo for the fair in the summer. The Sacramento Mile at the horse track is another event that’s fun. Old Town for bar hopping on the weekends. State Capital grounds are nice to walk around. Live Music at the Ceasar Chavez park once a week during the fall. Plenty of restaurants downtown. I left in 05 so some of these things might not be going, also skiing an hour away. Ocean and hour and a half away. Tahoe is close gambling and sightseeing. 30 mins away is a town called Auburn. Lots of river and swimming spots. Hiking or Mountain Biking. One problem though you’ll be to busy working to do any of this very often but it’s all there

I think your reasons are part of the reason but not the 5 main reasons. I think the number one reason is taxes, are getting too high. The homeless/ lack of law enforcement. (CA as a whole) The over saturation in population. Highest cost of insurance (home and auto), fuel, electricity/ natural gas and cost of food (Ca Min wage is now $20.00 per hour). Lastly, housing is unattainable for most.
I was born in Sacramento and lived in the city and now the suburbs for 51 years. I have seen a nice small city grow so big so fast and along with the cost of living, eating, housing and taxes continue to rise. Along with many programs that we end up paying for. None of these ever improve the city.
I will be leaving once I reach retirement. So sad....

I left Sacramento back in 05 because I felt like while I was out doing anything absolutely no one around me was American. Everyone speaks different languages. Thought CA was in America. I don’t mind differences but being the only person that speaks English in the Walmart got old.

This was a good video, but I just have to ask… Do you actually know somebody who left Sacramento because of the droughts? And do you know somebody that left Calif or Sacramento because of the fires? seems like a really petty reason to move. Especially compared to all the other stuff.

Funny those who bash California never say where they live. California has problems but California is 8th largest economy in the world, accounts for a big amount of America's gdp, movies music TV shows that people all over the world love some of the best universities on earth where the computers and software is designed where you snow ski in the morning have lunch in the desert and have dinner at the beach. Yep theres cheaper less crowded less taxes places to live less crime but they aint california. Theres a whole lot more positive in callifornia then negative. Sacramento is s great city. Theres lots of conservatives here. California isnt perfect but its way ahead of whats second best.

Trash Memento. It's become one of the most ghetto and crowded yet poor places to live. I see it going downhill and becoming another Oakland area. Not in a good way. One day the Kings won't even want to stay and there's no "new arena" that will make any difference. They should have built that golden 1 center somewhere else and made downtown plaza great again. Also they should have kept the cinadomes as a historical landmark. Let's see...they could be the first city in America to bring back a brick and morter toys r us. Stop making affordable housing and such in midtown and adjacent areas. The low income hotels and housing are magnets for exactly the kind of mess that ruins their downtown area now.
