    Longtime Pasadena Ca homeowner and resident. I have had enough of Ca for a couple of years now and for the same reasons you mentioned in your video, which was awesome. I have to wait about a year and six months before I can make my move because of an obligation. When I am ready, I am going to fly up to the Vancouver WA area and spend a week there to take a look around. When I do, I will try to make sure it coincides with your monthly orientation that you put on once a month for potential clients.

    If all of us Californians are moving to Washington, we’ll be driving up home costs. I definitely want to move to the PNW in a few years. My husband and I have visited there 4 times already scoping out areas. It’s so beautiful there! I hope we can still afford it.

    • @halbyrd_

      Yes that is indeed a downside to the migration north from California.. But I see the biggest price-driving factor as the simple issue of people from all over (including those just 15 min south of us in Portland) starting to discover all the unique & wonderful lifestyle "benefits" of Washington State... and SW Washington in particular. The popular demand of housing in an area that is still unknown by most Americans ("there's a Vancouver, Washington?!" 🤔😂) is what has driven the prices. Keep visiting, and if you'd like to chat about your specific time frame, budget, needs & wants let me know.. Thanks so much for watching the channel! - Hal

    I left California for many of the same reasons. I've been in Reno for five years (while making plans to move to Washington), and it's feeling more and more like California. I'm worried that I've missed the window of affordability, but I'm not giving up. It's hot and windy today...can't go out to work out, and my eyes are burning from myriad allergies! I don't think I can take another summer here.

    CA has income tax but property tax is a lot more in Washington and in Oregon I believe as well. When I was in Vancouver and Portland last summer the housing prices were closing in on CA.

    • @halbyrd_
      @halbyrd_  5 місяців тому

      I wouldn't say property tax is a lot more, it's quite close in my opinion. Texas, to me, is what I would call a lot more. But your point is well taken and it depends on where you're from and going to. I imagine Sacramento to Seattle would be a cost increase, whereas San Francisco to Vancouver is more financially beneficial. Finances are just one part of the equation.

    Northern California is also considered part of the Pacific Northwest especially the boundary that separates California and Oregon where Mt Shasta is located. this region is absolutely stunning with snow-capped mountains views and tons and tons and tons of forest everywhere you go. I lived in the southeast coast of the United States (Florida to be more specific) for many years, and I don't intend going back east. I was swept off my feet by the stunning landscapes in the Pacific Northwest (including Northern California). "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" I'm the beholder.

    Considering moving to the PNW from Los Angeles, liquidated family properties after my mom passed last year. When probate is done I should have 600k.

    All the CA expats moving into WA, OR and now Southern Nevada, have ruined what we once had here. The influx has totally upset the balance because they sell their over priced homes there and buy 2 or 3 up here, renting them out at inflated pricing and now people who's families have been here for generations lose homes, can't afford rent, etc., etc. I know it's more detailed than just that, but the influx is killing us. We're going to end up being exactly what people don't like about CA. Please go back.

    • @halbyrd_
      @halbyrd_  5 місяців тому +5

      I feel for what you're saying AND so many people leaving California don't want the Northwest to end up like CA. Also, many people whose families have been in California for generations experience the same challenges. They can't afford to buy or rent in the place they've called home their whole lives. I don't have the answers to solve everything but people have always migrated for opportunities & the chance to better their family's circumstances. Today is no different.

      Second what Hal is saying. People moving from states to states all the time. People moved to CA for years for the entertainment and tech industry; as well as the University system, weather and outdoor living. I think the housing problem is mostly not enough housing? CA is also having problem with not enough housing, and one of the solution is to prevent people from buying multiple houses and renting them out. One of the solution in San Francisco is to pass a new bill that will impose heavy taxes on houses that is not occupied for X month out the year by the owner. They also pass new law that will allow for more units to be built in what normally single house lot. Depending on the lot size, I think they can build up to 6 units per lot now. Didn't WA did the same thing?

    I so miss the California I grew up in, but aim for the NW and out of the hot, suffocating humid summers, cold winters (zero & single degree lows) 80% right wing politics, (no balance) heavy in religion, lack of visual art support and educated animal care in general of Tennessee. Yes, I can't afford a farm in the NW now, but when it's time to sell the farm I will come your way one way or another.

    What you said on your video,...that you can't speak for all parts of Washington state. Well, it seems that you didn't apply that same disclaimer to California. Northern California... A large area beyond San Francisco, is not like Southern California or the Central Coast or the San Francisco area. There are good people and relationships, small towns, lower costs, clean air, clean water, lakes, rivers streams, mountains, redwood forests, and the ocean. We have cool summers (usually in the mid-60s) and winters in the 50' with no snow.
    In your video you appeared to painted the entire state - quite a diverse one - with a very broad brush stroke regarding a few of your "reasons why," criteria, likely based upon your experience in Southern California... An entirely different beast.
    I live in an area on the north coast of California where real estate is still affordable, where my commute - seeing water and forests everyday- is 3 minutes, where we don't have fires or mudslides but do have rain - just like Washington - and where the community is filled with caring people who are friendly and willing to help and volunteer with community events. Yes, taxes are an issue, and if I had to commute, gasoline would be an issue too. But my lifestyle is comfortable and doesn't find me wanting for anything. I guess it depends upon your lifestyle choices and values.
    I suspect that since you are a realtor and you live in Washington state that you are using this video as a marketing tool, trying to bring buyers to your business. It makes sense. However, the scope of your comments seems to be limited to Southern California.
    But hey ... I don't mind you dogging California, particularly if it means more people move out of the state. I like the quiet empty beaches where I live and the forests where I can take walks without another soul to be seen or heard. So keep promoting Washington state. But don't be surprised if your vlogs encourage more people to move there and potentially bring with them some of the things that you moved away from California for.

    • @halbyrd_
      @halbyrd_  Місяць тому

      My comments are actually based on what I'm hearing from my clients that are leaving all parts of California (southern, central, & northern). I agree with most of what you've said; that there are lovely, quiet, temperate & affordable places in California. More people coming here to Washington & Oregon cannot change or bring the reasons I moved away from California. I appreciate your perspective and taking the time to leave a comment.

Instead of moving to these “better cities” you could just move out further. You’re never escaping big city issues in my “perfect city” we have all the California issues but at a smaller scale. It’s just the media ignores ours and overplays Portland and California’s issues. My rent is near LA prices now and if I’m going to pay near 2K in rent might as well be on the pacific.
