Who was more of a handicap for their country this Euros: Harry Kane for England, or Cristiano Ronaldo for Portugal? Gareth Southgate and Roberto Martinez have something in common: they both lacked the balls and the backbone to drop their “star” strikers when they weren’t cutting the mustard. I thought that this should happen after the Euros no matter where we finished, even if we won, but Gareth Southgate needs to step down now. We’ve naturally come to the end of this cycle. He’s had enough cracks at this and the national team needs a reset now. Pochettino and Potter are both available, so don’t even try the “there’s no viable replacements out there” reasoning. Idiots like Jamie Carragher and, most likely, Gary Neville, saying that Southgate should stay on is not helpful at all.
I’d give that trophy to Southgate! 1) Harry Kane might as well had a deckchair and a thick Cuban cigar and sunbathe in the centre circle and Southgate would not have the backbone to drop him! 2)Kyle Walker was just as bad, and he never dropped him either. Saka has been left up there for the entire tournament on his own, and at fault (caught napping) at both Spain’s goals.
When you look at how many of England's players play in Prem teams which use a high press, I'm amazed Southgate did adopt a similar style of play. Pickford's 26 long balls attempts in the final literally belong in League 1.

TAA didn't get more game time because he needs runners. Kane was terrible and is a millstone around England's neck as captain. If you play TAA you have to play Gordon/Saka/Bowen, ergo the players who run in behind. For Liverpool, he has Salah, Jota, Nunez to stretch the defence. For England, there was no one on the left to run onto naturally played balls from right-footed TTA.
Even before the Euros I thought Nico would be brilliant for us along the front 3 and he reminds me of Henry as I could see him a number 9 but sadly I think Nico will go to Barcelona but we should be proactive.
How long will it be before the leading British coach of his generation gets linked with the England job: Mikel Arteta. Arteta gained British citizenship in early 2010 (giving him dual citizenship), and no English coach can match his coaching abilities or track record.
Am worried about mental fatgue, lingering disappointment and most importantly, the unforgiving competitios they had and insufficient recovery time to recharge could lead to an injury hit seasons which arteta needs to be smart about how to deploy, prepare and even rotate them well meaning, new reinforcements/signings for these are paramount
Speaking of “tribalism” and England squad you forget that not all Arsenal supporters are English…I’m a gooner from California and Chelsea “hater.” I rooted for England Sunday, but wasn’t happy at all when Palmer scored.
I feel like the gulf between club and international soccer is wider than ever. I feel like nobody in the euros or copa looked very good at all. Obviously the copa not having the correct sized fields didn’t help. Maybe this opinion is colored by just how good and coherent arsenal have been over the last 2 years and most of the club games I watch are arsenal games. But it was really tough to watch a lot of these tournament games this summer.
If I ever have to watch a team managed by Southgate again I hope and pray it's because he's the opposition manager. I resented having to care about a team managed by the Alan Partridge of football.
After the window closes, we need to start again on renewing players. Big G is one of the lowest owners and this will entice him to want to leave for money.
Kane was never gonna be dropped and understandably so. He's your record goal scorer whose just come off the back of an incredible season at Bayern. Yeah he looked knackered for the most part, but he had to start, didn't he?
