I aspire to be as delusional as English fans. Struggling to beat Serbia, getting outplayed by Denmark, drawing against Slovenia, miraculously winning against Slovakia and needing penalties to win against Switzerland but somehow thinking they were going to win against the best team of the tournament😭
Mmm yeah there’s some delusion going on, of course. But I also think it’s a head vs heart kinda thing. Many of these streamers were very critical of England’s play during the tournament; but of course in their heart they still wanted to win. They couldn’t help but passionately support their team even though they logically knew that their chances were slim at best
England had a flawless path all the way to the Final, the other side of the tournament had all the monsters and Spain won against all of them. Effectively a World Cup without Brazil and Argentina.
I'm English and I'm telling you that the majority of English knew we had underperformed and ridden our luck to the final and expected Spain to win. People seem to think all England fan are arrogant and expect to win every game but that's really not true. People will remember this Spain in the years to come because of how they played and who they won against. 4 years ago Chiellini destroyed their hopes when he slammed that boy saka to the floor, in front of their own home crowd on Wembley hahahah, yesterday when Olmo cleared that ball on the line in the last minute..... that was just too good. The typical example was the French team at 70% max of its strenght with all these great veterans and main players (Mbappé, Griezmann, Giroud, etc...) exhausted and burnt out even before the start of the Euro or recently returning from a serious injury (Tchouaméni for example), and who did nothing during the Euro. Well until the semi-final lost vs Spain, future winner despite everything, many teams would already be very happy with that, but not us given how well below their level Les Bleus are in this Euro... 😕 Spain is the team that played the best game in this Euro, helped by its young talents in full physical health. Spain deserved to win.

As I Scot but lived in England and an Arsenal fan Ivwas confliced. But the football England dished up was dire this whole tournament. I am happy it was 2-1. The best moment of the match was seeing the light fade from their eyes after Spain's second goal. And that can only happen because they were hopeful. For a few minutes, they dared to dream: "Maybe it is actually coming home", "England has done well on pens, Spain has failed in plenty of them", "England has woken up, finally, with this momentum we will see the team's true potential". There is no true victory without robbing the enemy of hope, and for that the need to have hope first. A 1-0 victory wouldn't have been as satisfying. P.S: I am obviously joking. CONCLUSIONS FOR ME:

- In this Euro it is the teams which dare their youngest talents which will have produced the best game and which with Spain will have won in the end!
Incidentally the player who scores for the English in the final is also a young player.
Their young, even very young, talents, in full possession of their health facing great veterans but burnt out and exhausted by too long and hard a season.
The typical example was the French team at 70% max of its strenght with all these great veterans and main players (Mbappé, Griezmann, Giroud, etc...) exhausted and burnt out even before the start of the Euro or recently returning from a serious injury (Tchouaméni for example), and who did nothing during the Euro. Well until the semi-final lost vs Spain, future winner despite everything, many teams would already be very happy with that, but not us given how well below their level Les Bleus are in this Euro... 😕
Spain is the team that played the best game in this Euro, helped by its young talents in full physical health. Spain deserved to win.

As I Scot but lived in England and an Arsenal fan Ivwas confliced. But the football England dished up was dire this whole tournament. The best moment of the match was seeing the light fade from their eyes after Spain's second goal. And that can only happen because they were hopeful.
For a few minutes, they dared to dream: "Maybe it is actually coming home", "England has done well on pens, Spain has failed in plenty of them", "England has woken up, finally, with this momentum we will see the team's true potential".
There is no true victory without robbing the enemy of hope, and for that the need to have hope first.
A 1-0 victory wouldn't have been as satisfying.
