Receipe: play Bb F G- F over a descending diatonic bass left hand. Add pentatonic scales and blue notes right hand. Modulate randomly, apply the same pattern but on another key center, and sometimes go back to your main chords using either a 5th, 4th motion or a chromatic motion: feels like this music !
Just gonna observe here, a year on, that when people say Jacob is too into himself while "performing", I think he is actually putting in extra effort to communicate with his audience. Its virtuoso, but also just social, and I like it.
Oh my God I watched this live, and re-watched it over and over until it vanished from Instagram, thanks a million for posting! That melody he's playing around with ( 4:36 ) was also in the Keyscape demo, it's one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard!
it's a beautiful 6-2-5-1 pattern with an emphasis on the maj 2 chord (peak of tension). He repeats the pattern a lot in this impro. The melody he keeps repeating on it is so joyful :)
that should be the case , my friend, though.. if you are a musician and you aren't enjoying yourself more than your audience, start wondering what went wrong asap.
That is not my opinion. I think music create something beyond theory that is shared between performer and audience, a feeling, an impression. And to me that is the main thing to enjoy, hence everyone should be on the same level. With him I can't perceive that 'something', all I can see is theory in practice. These are good composition but they lack substance.
Joulin Nicolas I think the point you are missing here in this example is that it’s really just improvised. I play in a similar fashion when I’m exploring new territories in my own playing or extrapolating on new ideas/melodies/progressions/etc. Yes he applies some pretty extreme theory into his music, but why can’t he? I like the challenge to understand his point of view while at the same time enjoying his brilliance. Then again it’s all a matter of opinion :)
Joulin Nicolas Saying "he lacks substance" means that u r such an advanced musician who can easily judge. But let's be honest here, all you need is practice and someday you'll get him and his theory applications 😉
1:44 I wanna figure this out. 4:08 I like this right thingy. 4:28 I like this key change...he turn “mi” into the new “do”. 7:21 Noice left hand figure. 8:00 same thing. 8:25 my favorite rhythm in right hand. 😌 He likes to do descending major scale runs starting on “la”.
Oh awesome! I was looking about recording this livestream as well but didn't get to it because the video went away. Thanks! I love the piano playing. :D
who doesn't? it's one of the best keys. in C major all white notes are confusing for me. having one sharp to anchor myself visually makes me play better for some reason
did you happen to record his insta live of the concert where he played 'in the real early morning?' with those visuals in the background. I would love to see that again. it was so magical.
whenever he grabs his phone to end a live he always has it up in his face and its so funny to me

It'll take me time but I'll learn what you described soon and will get back to you on this. I hope it works. Thank you anyway tho 👍
By 4th and 5th motion do you mean like plagal or perfect cadencing back to the initial key?
@@woah3108 yeah exactly
Isn't it just add2 chords? Like Fadd2, Bbadd2/G, Fadd2/A, Bbadd2/G

I am blessed hearing him play. Letting me start piano lessons again! ♥️🎹

Seems derived from "Blackbird", if I had to guess . . . or maybe "Tuppence a Bag" from Mary Poppins . . . who knows? LOL

Sure a beautiful melody! Here I made a quick video: ua-cam.com/video/jNeildGGiXk/v-deo.html
It reminded me of part of this song by Randy Newman: ua-cam.com/video/k9Fn8VhkK5g/v-deo.html
Superb! What's your background, if you don't mind me asking?
How can this only have 1.3K likes???

I can, he enjoy himself more than anyone else enjoy him.

My mind goes to a whole other world when I'm listening to Jacob's music
This dude's a f'kin samurai
5:52 from his keyscape improv one of my fave bits of it!!
I'm so glad someone else caught that, one of my favorite parts!! 😁
this needs more views
He loves the up a tone modulation doesn't he
Will Thornton hell so do I
who doesn't
Will Thornton Many classical pianists don't, but that's a matter of musical philosophy.
@Unknown Entity wut ?
@@___xyz___ Classical pianist here. I SO love it.
Wow, from about 00:40 this gets 'very' Keith Jarrett. Beautiful.
So awesome 😎

8:18-8:35
Also, similar to Takagi Masakatsu :D
Jarrett's (70's) influence... Maybe, no?
Now he sings, now he sobs
Thought the same thing!
Far churchier tho, corea's sounds more trad bop
Koln Concert vibes
Same gospel/folk mix thing going on
Man he's good!
Haha from 4:37 he uses the theme from the ending of his keyscape improvisation
same progression! great ear bro
This is too much, It looks so simple, yet It is so hard and beautiful, Jacob is probably on his 30,000th note
che cacchio di genio
Ahahah
ben detto
How do I learn to play like this
Learn about musical intervals and explore them endlessly in all the music you like.
is that his guuurl at the beginning?

@@GrumpyStormtrooper Yes I have exactly the same!
As a trumpet player, F and Bb both sound more "home" in a vacuum than C
Wow how did you get this stream?
Nathan Bran I have used an "app" (StorySave)

Does anyone know what song is being played at the beginning?
7:38- 7:42 what chords did he play?
I hear G/D - Db/D - DMaj9 - A/C# - Bm7 - A
6:38
How is here at the beginning ? Becca stevens ? Just guessing, I like her voice .
