Purchase mine over two years ago went through ten chord easy. Fantastic little unit. With patience and skill it will cut anything.Add the second blade it will really make a difference you'll be surprised.😊
Yeah, I've yet to try the second knife, might make an update video with it and the totally impossible to split crab apple wood. should make for a funny video...
Shout out from Nova Scotia. Å family member asked me for a recommendation on a small splitter for their cottage. I seen the Yardworks 6 and 9 ton. Reviews on line seem to favour the 6ton, it being able to do the job as well as the 9ton, and it has a foot pedal. Vids I seen online previous to yours was splitting softwood but I wanted to see how it would perform with a piece of crotch hardwood. Enter your video. As expected, it struggled, but it's no different with bigger gas driven splitters. The operator has to read the wood piece so the splitter spends less time getting the job done. Good video. Thanks for posting. Splitting Tip - For ease of splitting, especially crotch pieces, split open the piece in the direction of the tree's growth. Just like you show at 2:30
Weld an axe head on the front of the wedge and it'll split just about anything. The wedge is too blunt from the factory. It needs a profile thats similar to modern splitting wedges to work best. Check out some UA-cam videos of how people modified their splitters.
@@robertm5969 Good idea, I'll do that upgrade in a second video. I have some impossible to split crane apple wood to use as a measure of split ability lol.
If you would put a top on your ram rod, you can adjust the return length so the ram doesn't have to go all the way back. That way you don't have to sit there twideling your thumbs waiting for the ram to catch up to the wood. Just a collar with a locking screw on it works great. Some of the splitters come with them already on.
😆 🤣 love you comment! I was good until I got that knotty oak from my neighbors front yard. Maple and birch are pretty easy to split, but that oak was ridiculous...
I held out till 56. I started losing my motivation to pull out the mauls and split and also noticed that I was reducing my splitting time to only a few logs at a time before stopping. Needless to say the log pile was growing and becoming overwhelming. It was getting to the point that if I saw a potential free wood score I would look the other way haha. Not good for a guy who relies on 4 cords a year to heat the home. So I finally pulled the trigger on an electric log splitter when I saw a deal I couldn't pass up. Now all my energy goes into the fun part for me, foraging for free wood which has become much more productive!
Just, treated myself to a wood splitter can't wait to get it.
Lol you`ll love it...not having one is like cutting your grass with scissors instead of a lawn mower.

Did not think it would split that knot. My 30 ton splitter strains at splitting that kind of stuff.😮
Yeah me too, I was skeptical 🫤 but it impressed me. It comes with a second wedge for the moving part too so I think it's much stronger than that yet.
For big rounds, start at the edge, not the center.

Thanks! Also, it would have been much easier if I would have put on the second wedge that came with the splitter.
Cheer!

Thanks for the tip!
65, split a half cord today with the FISKARS X27 axe. Longer rounds than that 18”, red maple and red oak.
That's awesome!
I held out till 52, just got the 9 ton yardworks made short work of some acacia wood.

Sorry A real man splitwood forever
I don't know how Jack puts up with her wonderful commentary?
Lol, yeah she worries too much.😜
"Why won't it go?" I'll let you answer that question when you use it some more.
Shout out Cape Breton 👍
