Love how Jason is entering in with comments now while filming. I’ve really enjoyed Garden Answers Sunday videos with Aaron and Laura’s banter with each other and this has the same feel. Thanks for filming even in the rain.
Right when you showed the secret “not so shade” garden, I thought, “Wow, a pretty crepe Myrtle tree would be so pretty here”. It would provide the shade in the summer for your garden here, but then again, you already planted 22 trees for tree fall 😂. Anyway, your gardens are really looking nice and the crepe Myrtles near the green house will be a gorgeous wall of color.
I don't know what your vision was when you bought the property, but the change is so remarkable. I'm sure when you are doing projects and think it's going to go smoothly and you run into all the debris had to be frustrating. I hope you and Jason are proud of what you have done to your beautiful space. As a reminder just look back to some of your early videos.
Thanks for this update Janey and Jason. Jason, so nice to hear from you. How far you have come in all aspects of gardening! Great job recording. 25:43. Jason “I have faith in you “ Good to see the gorgeous Japanese maple “aureum” gifted by Steph with “Hooked and Rooted” alive 💚 Stay safe, we need the rain ☔️. No flooding though.
Hi, Janey: I love the raised garden beds in your back yard. As far as winter color, I wanted to make a suggestion. What about adding two boxwoods to the outer edge of each of the beds, (inside of the beds) so they sort of "surround" the raised beds and they have the look of a cozy enclosure? It would still give you plenty of planting room for cut flowers. I think I would also top off the soil in each bed so your eye can scan over the tops of them and it's a consistent look, especially with the boxwoods on the ends. The boxwoods would glow, as they would be just under the lights you just put up. Just an idea to think about. Whatever you decide for your garden, it will be great. It's come such a long way! PS - - I have the New Dusty Miller and it's just not giving up. A beautiful plant, that I've incorporated into a few winter pots.
You mentioned in a different video you were considering replacing the garden bed. I think they are beautiful & add a sense of charm to the space especially with lights now. Love it!
Thank you for the tour of your back garden, especially in the rain! Loved hearing the conversation between the both of you and the support and confidence Jason has in you. Lovely couple!
We're in the middle of this crazy storm. Yesterday we got over 5 1/2 inches of rain and today we're expecting to exceed that... It's supposed to let up on Saturday - I hope! Can't wait to see what climbing plants you plant on your posts! Your yard looks beautiful.❤M
I am sure Michael was excited with all the planting and designing you and Jason have done! It really is amazing! Everything is coming together. Spring will be beautiful I am sure!
Everything is looking good. Wishing the rains just give our dahlias and roses a good soaking. Stay in make hot cocoa and warm by the fire. Obviously with your handsome husband and your adorable daughters. 🌹🌹🌹🌹Thank you for sharing your garden ideas. Carmen
You both have done so much work in your garden. I love, love , love the solar light addition and can just imagine them glowing while you are using the hot tub.
Janey, I totally agree with Michael Glassman! It would be fun to see a before and after video of your garden since you have so much footage now - it might even be a little shocking to see the total transformation! The rusty metal elements look fabulous with the autumnal colors of the trees and grasses - I love the metal leaf panels behind the hot tub and the arched entrance to the secret garden is da bomb!
Maybe you could put some shade cloth over your Secret Shade Garden in the summertime. That's what my plan is for next year for my surface of the sun Texas garden.
Thank you for sharing your rainy day garden. I love to be out in it. Years ago I went to the San Francisco Zoo on a rainy day, it was almost magical, such a different perspective of the animals, they even enjoyed the rain. Love watching all your improvements and learning curves.
Your gardens look bright and cheerful even on a rainy day. I really enjoyed how the tour was filmed and hearing Jason’s enthusiasm behind the camera! ❤️🇨🇦
Hey can you do a video about top dressing? I planted directly in the native soil with some fertilizer but I am interested in learning more about back filling with compost.
Today it's Snowing across a broad swath of France. Including Paris and her suburbs! Started about 10 for us and is still going now at 5h20p.m. 😊 Very early for us, some storm! Maybe your system trotted over to Europe. Since it came from the Northwest. Even Brittany!
I totally feel your pain with the buried previous garden debris, the same thing happened in my garden. I’ve dug up bricks, moss stones, and a thick layer of gravel from where we think they at one stage had an above ground pool, all buried under a foot of red sandy soil- it’s maddening.
So different to see rain and dreary weather. That is our lot in the winter DREARY. WE WOKE UP TO OUR FIRST SCATTER OF SNOW ON THE GRASS. MORE TONITE AND COLD. When I think of CA I think sunny.
🦃Hi Janey, Jason, and of course Sweet Monty🍂 Your property looks amazing you've come a long way can't wait to see more. Thank you for sharing this video, enjoy the 💦. 🍁 😊 👋
I think maybe just calling them “Native Beds” since they are in your native soil would work as a name. 😊 Great work, Janey & Jason! Backyard is looking amazing!
I think that’d cause too much confusion, since most people would assume it’d be only native plantings in a bed of that name 😅 she’d get comments every video saying “Dahlia isn’t native”, “Dusty Miller isn’t native”
Good morning! The Dusty Miller is so bright. The lights are outstanding especially nice they are solar too. Beautiful greenhouse. You guys have definitely done a ton of work in a short time. Thank you for sharing your day rain or shine.
Everything is looking so good, you all have done such a great work in the garden. Not gonna lie my initial thought when you all purchased the property I was a little worried. But goodness it looks fantastic. 💚💚💚
There is a UA-cam channel called Cog Hill Farm and he has roses growing up posts that he will have swag between each post. I could see that in your garden. Janey, I love the jacket you’re wearing in this video. May I ask where you purchased it? Thanks! PS-Love my heliotrope candle ❤
Hopefully you don’t experience any nasty weather! Meanwhile, here in Minneapolis, we had our first round of snow come through yesterday. And the temperatures are dipping down to the teens and 20s for next week.
I love your garden and I get lots of inspiration from your videos. I wanted to say i think attacking the fence one section at a time is the best idea. If you wanted a little more shade for the "Secret Not So Shady-Shade Garden" you could create a sort of an arbor from the house across to the new fence. You could make some of the new fence posts taller to support the arbor structure. How much shade you get would depend on how close together you put the boards that go across. I know you still have a lot of projects but it's an idea if you wanted create some shade for your shade garden 😊
Boxwood on either side of the entrances would look pretty and add "structure" to the area. You could even add boxwood on the ends as well (so you'd end up with 4 boxwoods on the front entrance and 4 boxwood on the greenhouse side entrance). Whatever you decide, you're going to have so much fun with this area. Evening entertaining is going to be awesome with those lights.
In my veg garden area no matter where i dug i came up with bricks, so ultimately i now have raised beds..so i feel your pain. Just thinking about your shady/not shady area. I had issues this past year due to the extreme heat. I put in posts much like your raised bed posts. Then installed shade cloth. It worked well and actually looks nice. Bonus is it wasn't expensive. Can be taken down in winter if desired.
I love the lights you added. I have the same ones on my deck. I will be interested to hear how they work now that you are getting days of cloudy skies. I live in WI and now that the days are shorter and we have had days of gray skies the lights have not been lighting up at night. I know I could bring the solar part in and charge them, but that is so inconvenient and not a lot of fun to unplug and plug them back in when it is freezing cold and standing on a ladder.
Seeing your new posts and Hoselink solar lights made me smile AGAIN today! I’ve been planning mine for years and hope to get them done in early spring and I love the stain you chose. What brand / type is it? The posts give your garden such amazing SCALE, filling all that vertical space. Who knew it would do so much?!! I never considered putting the solar panels on top of the posts but what a great idea!
Hey Janie and Jason😊!!! I just realized that I am watching this video of yours and it's raining outside where I am in New Jersey also. Lol. It's the first rain that we've had in about 2 months. We have been under a fire restriction for at least the past 2 months because it has been so dry. So I am watching your rainy garden tour on the 1st day it is raining here. 😂❤❤
Heeeyy Monty, Heeeyy y'all you have such a beautiful garden. I love the green house and the stained table. Absolutely film some of your videos in the green house!! 🩷 I live in your same zone and area about an hour away and we've definitely gotten a early cold and much needed rain spell (like 10 days)! Also thank you so much for putting up pix of the flowers you talk about, it's very helpful! Could you possibly do a video of gardening in small spaces. I admire your garden so much with all that space and all that you can grow. I only have a balcony/container garden to plant in.
Oh but black walnuts are so delicious AND it is a slow growing hardwood tree. 😢 Hardwood trees are so majestic I can’t imagine taking one out. 😢 I’m originally from KS and trees are treasured.
Janey, It all looks amazing! I have a Helen Von Stein question. Maybe even your followers have some suggestions? I’m in Fl 9b and I have a few good sized Lambs Ear plants but they are getting leggy. Can I cut them back or replant? Thx!
Hi Janey and Jason🌻 . Wonderful tour at back garden in rainy day it looks stunning and you have alot of work in the garden this year .The japanese maple looks amazing . Janey what about your bougainvilleas in the containers ? Have a lovely day .🌻🎄🌻
Look on the bright side - - can brag to you grandkids about video recording yourself gardening in a bomb cyclone! If nothing else, serious "click bait" (even if the worst of it misses Davis, as most big storm do, )
Love how Jason is entering in with comments now while filming. I’ve really enjoyed Garden Answers Sunday videos with Aaron and Laura’s banter with each other and this has the same feel. Thanks for filming even in the rain.
Really enjoyed Jason chiming in during this tour. He also did a great job filming & doing closeups of plants!🪴
It's so cool to hear how excited Jason is now about gardening and these projects!

OMG!!!!! Can you imagine Eden roses growing up all those posts????? 😮😃😍😀 Gorgeous
I love the black table in your greenhouse with the beautiful terracotta pots! They really pop!❤
This rain is going to be amazing for your garden . Get that compost down so all the good nutrients get into your soil.
Thanks for this update Janey and Jason.
Jason, so nice to hear from you. How far you have come in all aspects of gardening! Great job recording.

Love the way your backyard is progressing!!! The posts with lights are a game changer!!! Great work guys!!!!!
You mentioned in a different video you were considering replacing the garden bed. I think they are beautiful & add a sense of charm to the space especially with lights now. Love it!
The Black post around the tree....BEAUTIFUL!!!! Really makes the tree Pop!! 😍
Thanks for the rainy tour you two! The progress is amazing and everything looks great.
Suggestion- replace sections of the fence a little at a time so it’s not such a big expense at one time
Hopefully you will not have a serious problem with the storm. Thinking of your parents and dear Robbie. Love your greenhouse!
Thank you for the tour of your back garden, especially in the rain! Loved hearing the conversation between the both of you and the support and confidence Jason has in you. Lovely couple!
❤ You have done an amazing amount of work in a relatively short amount of time. Love your channel, youth and energy.

I am sure Michael was excited with all the planting and designing you and Jason have done! It really is amazing! Everything is coming together. Spring will be beautiful I am sure!
we already have snow on the ground so my gardening season is over. I like the shurfire begonia's tenacity
Thank you both for braving the cold and rain to give us this great video! Your combined enthusiasm and fun personalities are awesome!
Everything is looking good. Wishing the rains just give our dahlias and roses a good soaking. Stay in make hot cocoa and warm by the fire.

Wow overall looks great, will be nice to have plants climbing up those posts, I really like the secret garden
Hope you and your parents and Robbie will be safe as possible from the bomb cyclone🙏
Would love to see those old satellite pics of the property
Ick rainy. Cocoa needed. Hugs! Lol😊
Morning
Great tour! Thank you for braving the rain. You and Jason are such a wonderful team! 🧡
Hey can you do a video about top dressing? I planted directly in the native soil with some fertilizer but I am interested in learning more about back filling with compost.
It’s amazing how the light structure has changed the look of the garden. It looks fantastic cheers 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺Bronwyn

Fantastic! It’s so nice to see, as we are now under 9” of snow with more coming. Ah well, tiz the season! Zone3 Manitoba 🇨🇦👏
I haven’t watered since the weekend - my potted plants are loving this atmospheric river 💙
It is your Yard, of course.......but you should plant the same plants that Kevin did around his cistern thing. It completely hid it.
I totally feel your pain with the buried previous garden debris, the same thing happened in my garden. I’ve dug up bricks, moss stones, and a thick layer of gravel from where we think they at one stage had an above ground pool, all buried under a foot of red sandy soil- it’s maddening.
We have had our first dusting of snow this morning here in se Michigan Great job in your garden!
Y’all stay safe!
that is a beautiful hydrangea I'm surprise you don't have a plant identifier, Love your video its always and original😊
So different to see rain and dreary weather. That is our lot in the winter DREARY. WE WOKE UP TO OUR FIRST SCATTER OF SNOW ON THE GRASS. MORE TONITE AND COLD. When I think of CA I think sunny.
Hail from Vermont !!! and I love you two doing this walkabout video together !!!! and talk back and forth good work
It’s looking awesome! I have those black callas too-I LOVE them!
Lol You gonna Robbie the fence 😂❤
Janey, we have snow!
🦃Hi Janey, Jason, and of course Sweet Monty🍂
Your property looks amazing you've come a long way can't wait to see more. Thank you for sharing this video, enjoy the 💦. 🍁 😊 👋
Janie, why don’t you trim the branches from the walnut tree so they do not over hang your space. It is legal to trim the tree that hangs on your side.
What kind of tree rose is to the right of the entry into your greenhouse? So beautiful.
Love the rainy garden tours the colors are beautiful... And the interaction with Jason its really a plus !
I'm curious how the solar lights will perform with so many rainy days in a row. Please keep us posted!
Did you do a video of putting up those I think they are called cow panels what to see this
Up here in Shasta County it hasn't stopped raining for over 24 hours and it's just starting.

Candy corn spireas are pretty in the summer and the fall

Enjoyed your November tour. You & Jason have really met so many challenges 😊
if you build a new fence, l seen a black galvanized fence that looks awesome that you might want to check into that style of fence, too
Boxwood on either side of the entrances would look pretty and add "structure" to the area. You could even add boxwood on the ends as well (so you'd end up with 4 boxwoods on the front entrance and 4 boxwood on the greenhouse side entrance).

I meant to say to plant these boxwood in the ground.
I guess if you have 4 entrances to this area then do two boxwoods at each entrance and one on each of the four corners.
I think I'm done now!
Janey where did you get the copper screens? I’m in love!!!
Monty😘❤️❤️❤️

Your garden is really taking shape. I like the lights.
I hope you don’t get flooding like we did in Western North Carolina
I love the lights you added. I have the same ones on my deck. I will be interested to hear how they work now that you are getting days of cloudy skies. Your Green house is so beautiful. On our news we saw Oregon and Washington State having Trees go down so I hope you are safe.
It would be so helpful if you did a video on ergonomic gardening!
Cover that wood asap!!!

I think Jenny from Creekside removed her Crepe myrtle because of the runners.
My little eye...spies a Duck!!!!
Its soooo Beautiful ! I'm getting ideas 🙄😁 Thank you Janey and Jason and Monty my boy .
What a great video and I love rainy days!
Begonias might do well in the green house. Amaryllis and paper whites if you can stand the smell would add blooms too. ❤
Hey Janie and Jason😊!!! I just realized that I am watching this video of yours and it's raining outside where I am in New Jersey also. Lol. It's the first rain that we've had in about 2 months. Isn’t the rain just beautiful? I think you and I filmed our garden tour on the same day. Hahaha LOVE IT Jayne it looks BEAUTIFUL! 💙💚💛🧡❤️💜 Liz
Hi Janey and Jason🌻 . Wonderful tour at back garden in rainy day it looks stunning and you have alot of work in the garden this year .The japanese maple looks amazing . Janey what about your bougainvilleas in the containers ? Have a lovely day .🌻🎄🌻
Worried about Monty and Foxglove, aren’t they poisonous?
❤❤❤❤❤
I know you call them no till beds. But couldn't they technically be called raised beds? Im just curious I would probably call them raised beds lol
make wreaths with your dusty miller
If your fence blows over, your neighbors goats will have a banquet in your garden. Yikes.
❤❤❤❤❤❤☔☔☔
