Your sweet potato harvest was about right for a single slip. You can always buy a sweet potato in February and make your own slips. It’s quite easy and you will have tons of slips. The earlier you start them the more potatoes you will get. The leaves taste like spinach and are quite nutritious so plant some just for the leaves. Don’t give up on them, this was a good start.
Thanks for that info, I'm never grown them before & I'm going to try & grow them next year in an 80 LTR container, I'm going to make room for it in the greenhouse. I'll buy some sweet potatoes around February & get some slips from them.
Do you not over winter any of your chilli plants? There was some great healthy plants there. I have a 2yr old chilli plant that is a monster at producing. She is heading to yr3 next year😂. Your sweet potato harvest looked great, maybe expensive but some of the smaller ones can be your stock for next year🎉
JB, sweet potatoes are not natural to our environment so that crop is something not only to be proud of but a sign you can grow good crops in a more warm and sunny year. Don't keep beating yourself up darling xxxx
Yes, we decided not to put a stove in for the reasons you said. Like others have said, we have a small one ring camping stove using disposable gas canisters which I keep at home and just put one in my bag when I go to the allotment and bring it home afterwards, same for the lighter to light it! I only take it if I'm going to be on the allotment for a longer time. I think for me it's really the cosiness and of it rather than the practicality, since I also have to pack a small container of milk!
I found space saving ideas for my shed by looking up. I screwed really strong hooks into my ceiling beams, near the side walls, so I could hang tools on. Longer tools hung near the side walls, but it’s amazing how much stuff you can store overhead. We even slung two ropes at each end of the ceiling and now we slide our long wood planks up there until we need them for a project. Keeps them out of way and dry. You’ve got more space than you think.
maybe instead of a wood burning stove, just a little gas stove to make tea/soup? It's really a great shed! And that harvest on the sweet potatoes is pretty good!
looking good JB, I wouldn't call the sweet potato a failure, it's a decent meal from a relatively small tub, plus you can do your own slips from the small ones! pack of 8 12x14" london style shelf brackets ~£20, plan the shelves before you move the wood then you only move the wood once.
Don’t be so hard on yourself. That’s a great slabbing job! You’ve done well with the shed. What a plot upgrade it is for you. Your winter project pretty much completed and we’re still only in November! That’s good going. Great chilli harvest. Really like the look of those Korean peppers. I really want to try sweet potatoes next year.you’ve convinced me with that harvest! One hands worth is better than the none I have. That one is spectacular
On my allotment, I had one of those little camping stoves that runs off a disposable gas canister. I always took the gas home with me just in case some kids got ideas...
Yes that's exactly what I was thinking about getting for now. I realised I was saying camping stove to refer to both wood ones and also the little gas ones so it would have made no sense whatsoever hahaha
When I first put up my new shed I was so worried that I would turn up one day to it being burnt down! If you get break ins frequently I'd maybe just have a little gas stove and take the gas home each time
Why don't you leave the compost in the polytunnel and put a screen up to divide it off and look icer. If you use a thick trellis type you could use it to grow climbing veggies.
🌶🌶🐭Ahhh...JB...you have mice that eat hot peppers in England? That's hilarious! However one does wonder if these little blighters don't just spontaneously combust with all that capsaicin! LOL! Anyway, I love love love that shed soooo much...oh yes, please consider insulation...and particle board, and a little wee wood stove (yes, it will mean getting through the roof, but it will be worth it)...that it would be so cozy! You know, your sweet potato's look pretty darned good. I always say, if you get only one meal it's a success. Good job on the paving! (even without a level, you did well!) 🌶🌶🐭
I’d be dead chuffed with those sweet potatoes 🍠. 😊 The paving stones will help prevent foxes from digging under the shed. 👍🏻 The plots are tying up together nicely for easy care. Hope you got your garlic in. 😊
Lovely video! That was a great chilli harvest (you are brave tasting them unprepared at the allotment JB 🌶️🥵🔥and the sweet potatoes were fab. I just had lots of little thin spindly tubers in a 30l tub! I’m defo getting a bigger tub next year. That Tony CSmith will float!! I would just get a a little portable stove to make a nice cuppa Is sit down too much if the shed was too cosy tbh. X
Im also on the coast I live on the west cliff at Whitby we don't get much snow - a bit of a dusting and frost ❄️ 15 minutes away in Sleights my 4 year old grandson made a little snowman ☃️ I think you dropped a small potato into the spent compost bag 🥔
@lynnegunns604 aw it is lovely here 💙 I live about 10 minutes from the golf course - went for dinner at The Whitehouse pub with my son and grandson a couple of weeks ago 🍻🍽️
I was thinking when I saw your first shed build video that insulation between the studs might make it even more comfortable for the frigid temperatures of mid-winter 😁 depending on what kind you use, you could even cover over with pegboard to then hang tools off.
Feel so bad the mouse got your peppers. Single sweet potato slip....decent harvest for your climate. Iv'e done them twice 1st great 2nd total fail....something ate them underground.
Man, that mouse must have been *really* hungry! And nice chili harvest. Now you made me even more wanting to grow habaneros again this coming season! But have so many untried varieties still 😊Cool that you got something from the sweet potatoes at least (even if it wasn't as good as Tony's harvest hehe).
I think your sweet potato was as good as I've seen on youtube, Tony's doesn't look better as far as I can tell, size can be misleading on film. Can you take slips from that big one and grow until planting time, it is only a few months to go.

Definitely not a failure I'd be proud of that 👍

-4 and snow here. My peppers werev gone over a month ago. shed looking gd tho.
In my world that is an amazing harvest.
Looks great. Hot chillies, milky tea? You missed a trick there!
Inspiring to see all that you do.

Lucky you the west Cliffe area by the golf course looks amazing. Love that part of the country x

That is a good harvest from a 30 litre pot. It might have been a bit better in a 50 litre pot.
You need to get some membrane of the chilli to get the flavour.
That's not a bad harvest jb

To be fair I find a flask is just fine, I don’t think unless you are going to be there for whole days a camping stove is necessary.
I do often spend the entire day at the allotment on weekends :)
Feel so bad the mouse got your peppers.

I think your sweet potato harvest was good,if it was one slip planted in the bucket.

Great slabbing, good sweet potato crop, shame about the mice. Need a camping stove and a fridge. Milk : crucial for chilli Burntime!😂
Did you get the snow on Tuesday night ?,I was at Seatown Dorset and there was a good dump of snow overnight. Great vid. Take care x
JB, there is not a lot of difference between your lot of sweet potatoes and Tony's. You only had one plant!
What are your plans for the scaffolding boards long term JB.
More beds/reconfiguring the beds!
I thought your sweet potato harvest was pretty good! If you grew them indoors you may have more success.
Fantastisch Good video jb you the best te moostuin te Greenhouse Tour pepers sweets potata Good weekend fried 🌤👍☁️💧🍂☕️🧣🌡🌜❄️🌶🫑
Are you sure there is only the one Mister Mouse? I think a few mice!
I suppose it is possible isn't it!

Thanks so much Brenda! Very reassuring. I've put the big green one to one side and will attempt to get slips from it yes :)
