    I never skip an ad watching your videos. Its the least I can do for how much you've helped me.
    I've followed you over the years and I have a diy room. I make everything.
    It was funny to family and friends when I started but my skin proved I wasn't just playing with things and making noise with the stick blender 😂
    My mom and sisters only buy skincare products they can't do without. Everything else comes from me (with credits to my account in appreciation and to help with ingredients which rarely costs more than £10)
    I appreciate you more than you know 😊😘😘😘

    I've always wanted to ask about your local water. For some years I was formulating my products based on the fact that we have soft water. So when I went out of town and used hotel water, it felt like a totally different formula! Soft water seemed to produce a much easiser lather with lasting hydration, and I learned I needed to test my products on both kinds of water ^_^; do you ever notice a significant difference in your product with water types?

    Hoping you will see this post since that came out awhile back. I made the recipe per the written instructions. It did not gel. It did test at 4.01 so I guess that is good and can use it in its liquid state.
    I watched the video again and made it again per those directions which differ...the amounts for carageenan at 0.35g, glycerin at 35g and Sodium Laureth Sulfate at 35g (written recipe is at 0.45g, 45g and 45g respectively) with the rest of the ingredients the same in video and written. It did turn out thicker with the 35 numbers but not a gel, at least after 2 hours. I will let it sit longer. Yes, I read the blog, the encyclopedia and substitutions list which suggests you can increase carageenan or decrease it to get desired state. When does this need to be done....can I add a bit of carageenan at the very end or do I remake and add a wee bit more in the first step? Sorry for long post...would just really like to make it be more gel like. LOVE your channel and thank you so much for all of the recipes!

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  3 роки тому

      Hey Cathy! In this case I would recommend adding a bit of table salt (0.5g at a time)-that'll thicken up the shower gel very nicely :) It sounds like your carrageenan is behaving differently than mine-you might find it needs to be heated to kick in and do its gelling work. Happy making!

  • @temitopeolaribigbe6134

    Thanks for sharing. I'm glad I found this. I have tried this out but I replaced thickener with xanthan gum, I used orange fragrance oil, I used a mixture of propylene glycol & glycerin (I used your measurements though for all). I left it overnight but the outcome isn't as gorgeous as yours. Gel-like though but still kind of watery. How do I make it thicker?
    Your response will be very much appreciated as my email hasn't been replied. Thanks in advance

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  4 роки тому

      Honestly, it's hard to say with the number of changes you've made-if you want it to be thicker you could try adding more thickener, but it should be pretty dang thick without any thickener. In the video you can see how thick the Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLeS) is-that is the main source of viscosity in this formulation.
      I also recommend reading this FAQ: www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/i-made-several-substitutions-to-one-of-your-formulations-and-it-didnt-work-out-why/. Regarding email replies, please read this: www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/havent-replied-emailtweetcommentfacebook-messageetc/. Happy making!

      If you go read the blog post she wrote on this, it's more about creating a "self-preserving" product and mastering an inhospitable environment for microbes. I prefer to just use a small amount of preservative and some butters and oils, lol. Personal preference, I guess. 🤷🏼‍♀️

      You'd be firmly in re-development territory with that swap given the self-preserving nature of this formulation.

    Marie I have a problem in regards to thickener. I only have xanthan gum which I am avoiding to use because of its snotty texture. I also have a carbomer but have forgotten to order TEA to neutralize the pH. I have a washing soda ( sodium carbonate) with a pH of 11. Do you know if that would work instead of TEA? They have almost the same pH? I've read TEA's pH is around 10 - 11

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  4 роки тому

      I don't recommend it-in my experience, washing soda isn't terribly water soluble. Do you have any NaOH? I've used that before and it works.

    Does iota carrageenan doesnt need to be heated to gel up? So it kinda works like carbomer?

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  2 роки тому +1

      This particular product did not need to be heated up. I didn't secretly heat it up off camera and not say anything :) That said, the supplier that sold this carrageenan discontinued it, and the bag of iota I have right now smells kind of like seaweed, is cloudy, and definitely does not perform the same way. So, I think there's some sort of a grade difference at play, but I can't be completely certain as the original product (and description) was long gone before I discovered not all iota's perform the same way :/
