She could of went on to be big but I don't think she cared to much for the extra that comes with show business. But she never stopped writing.

She actually would have stayed with Motown in retrospect. She said working with Smokey, she was “sitting on a gold mine, and I didn’t even know it.” She walked out of a Smokey song and left on a plane. There’s an interview of her on UA-cam of a few years ago where she expresses how she felt.
