Disco that became the first commercially played tracks like this, originated in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands..ahead of their time in sync pop..which was prolific in The British New Wave of a few years later. Yes this lit the Dance floors in clubs in NYC and Boston. Love it
Those cheers at the beginning and Dick Clark’s intro... chills! This must have been so much fun! I wish I was around at that time! I pray music from that era will return to popular culture for my generation and be as loved as it was... 🥲
This is the bomb! Seeing the reaction of the kids when this song was new, it's priceless. It's still an incredible & timeless song 32 years later. Donna Summer RULES!!!!
Aww, look at all these fresh-faced, all-American kids just having a blast dancing in their own unique ways to one of the best disco songs ever released! They all look so cute and "girl/boy next door". I really, really wish someone could invent time machine technology so I could live in the 1970s. This was the best time for youth culture, from "Summer Breeze" to Donna Summer. And I would kill for some of these fashions! Long live the '70s!
Can you have a word with people commenting on 80s and 60s videos then, because they all claim the 60s and 80s were best. It's almost like it's being young that's the great thing, not the era you're young in, and as we get older the more we whitewash the past.
🤔 This song is/was a head of its time. A lot of kids are having a hard time dancing to it. 👑 Donna Summer was diffinatly the Queen of disco/dance. The song went up to #6 on the Pop charts,l believe. 😊 #1 on the British charts.
It peaked at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 in November 1977, a month before Saturday Night Fever came on the scene..so ahead of its time. I don't think people were having a hard time dancing to it....looking at the studio, I think they were so packed in ..even on the risers...they probably couldn't move as freely as they would have liked.
I was five years old when my sister came home one day with this 45. It was unlike anything that had been heard on the radio at that time. It was new. It was revolutionary. It still sounds futuristic 45 years later.
My favorite part of this entire clip is during the time of 2:53 til the end, espeically when the lady with the funny hair realizes she's on camara. You can just feel the energy in that studio.
Oh, the memories ~ Dittos (saddleback, of course), tiny tight t-shirts, NO bras (how daring and cool, we were totally groovy), platform shoes (on guys and girls alike), puka shell necklaces, and feathered hair ~ all afloat in a sea of polyester. And God how we LOVED to dance!
remember watching this episode, when it was 1st aired on VH-1 back in 96' :D!!!...when ever i hear this song, i keep thinking about this clip :D!!.... Thank You for posting!!!

Donna Summer forever the Queen of Disco..and one of the best voices in music history. I used to love American bandstand. I would watch every Saturday afternoon. Good times.
1977,to be exact. The Days of Disco that ruled. Also,The Dresses & Skirts were long at the time. The Short Dresses & Skirts were long since out of vogue at the time & would return in the next five years.
lmao! oh i miss this show i remember calling my friends to make sure they were watching the show with me? sometimes we would hang out at each other houses? and make fun of some of the dancers it was all fun though :) then we would go out and buy the song on 45 :)
Gina Sprague was one of the most popular American Bandstand dancers during the disco era, check out Gina's video "American Bandstand 1970s dancer 24 part 2".
@djguy1 That's because AB did disco better than Soul Train. Dick Clark said once before he loved the disco era the best. Don Cornelius didn't care too much for disco and he definitely didn't like rap, but he went with what was hot.
Gag, children this is what it was all about fashion, hair, looking fierce, check out the chick @ 3:04 she is all that! she represents what that time was all about, she made me miss those days, chicks I hung out with dressed to impress, they didn't want to look like everyone else, it was all about originality.
Mikalo Madge eyes my guess is you know nothing about fashion or being fierce so I wouldn't expect you to get her or her look. No worries, mama is fierce and she knows it.
Mikalo Madge eyes because the people you pointed out are average looking/average dressed, very safe in their choice of fashion. I like people who stand out and think outside of the box. She's dressed very New York , very studio 54 which was the club to go to in Manhattan back in the day.
This was 1977 (still months away from Sat. Night Fever) but disco was already 2-3 yrs old, NO idea what Dick is talking about 'disco in the '60s'?!? HUH LOL
Jako32 .... Disco, born out of the black and gay clubs of the very late 60s and early 70s. You could hear disco coming in many late 60s Motown songs. It popped its head out beginning in 1970, more noticeable by 72 and everywhere by 74… Strangely, in 1980 it returns to its underground roots in the club scene, morphed itself into House Music and many other dance genres. The history is quite interesting.
LOVE this clip! Sound is crap lol but all good. yeah..these 'kids' and basically the world never heard ANYthing like this! Fact its still super fresh and never gets tired means back then they mustve been like WTF is this lol. WHY arent there 'moments' in music anymore that come semi close to that 3:00 minute mark :/. Prior to this disco was basically ALL 4 on the floor, Barry White, The Hustle sounding songs.
This recording is quite blurry for some reason. I'm guessing it was recorded at home on a VCR that needed a good cleaning. Either that, or it was recorded in the SP 6 hour mode. I like Donna Summer, but I've always found this song to be monotonous and boring.
If I was born before the seventies and have gone to maybe audition for american bandstand I would have a woman dance with me and probably would make her and I feel good
SOUL TRAIN WILL ALWAYS BE BETTER THAN AB BUT WHEN THEY PLAYED I FEEL LOVE ON SOUL TRAIN FOR THE SOUL TRAIN LINE, THEY DIDN'T GET IT BUT ON AB, THEY DID!! SO FOR THAT I GIVE AB CREDIT.... AN ARTIST LIKE DONNA SUMMER WAS ALWAYS AHEAD, AND FOR A BLACK FEMALE ARTIST TO TRANSCEND TIME, GENRE, AND RACE...THAT SAYS A LOT ABOUT HER ARTISTRY AND LEGACY...
I was 15 at the time. So freaking priviledged and honored to have experienced the 70s as a teenager

The change from orchestral Disco to electronic Disco and the birth of House Music.
I love to hear Dick Clark intro with " disco sounds of the world and the Queen of it all - Donna Summer".
Miss the 70's - the music, the clothes, the dancing and American Bandstand. Wish I had a time machine to go back to that era.
Catniprose I do too!
Trust me, you're not alone.
oh, YEAH...fun, fun era...We were all so young...So thin....So classy! And so in love....ha!
This is the bomb! Seeing the reaction of the kids when this song was new, it's priceless. It's still an incredible & timeless song 32 years later. Donna Summer RULES!!!!
Goosebumps 🦆. Primal meets techno. So ahead of its time and it stands the test of it to this day. ❤
well said.
Donna Summer she was a real queen of disco may she rest in peace I remember when she hosted American Bandstand for Dick Clark
I THANK GOD....I was dancing during this time...I JUST THANK GOD.....IT WAS JUST THAT BEAUTIFUL....

This song of Donna Summer broke the barrier for disco in American bandstand

I LOVE THIS!! I wish American Bandstand would be released on DVD
Oh to be in my late teens or 20s at this time. I was born too late 😭

Disco was HUGE !!!!.... Best was '72-'77...love the intro speech.
1972 seems a little early....I think it really got going with George McCrae and "Rock Your Baby"...I think around 1975....

Love that New Wave R&B Funky Electronic Sound.

Certainly a great tune
That white boy at 1:50 and 2:50 got some moves .He's on the wrong show,he needs to be on Soul Train, homeys getting down!!
amen brother ! and the hot black mama at about 3:02 was amazing !!
At 1:25,The Girl in the Golden Silk Jacket looks alike as Eve "Jan Brady" Plumb.
Luv it!!!

This was a collaboration between the great Giorgio Moroder and Donna Summer.

It would have looked better if they lowered the lights on this song because it would have really gave you that disco feel.
I wonder how many of these people are still alive...?
Who else could do a better performance of "I Feel Love" than these guys?
This is Lisa Frazier
