    The first 3d flying I saw was Michael flying on fm radios. I was blown away at his precision in handling the plane. I don't really care for 3d flying, but I bot, and built one anyway. I like that it flies really slow, and can land within 2 feet. It teaches how to use throttle control. Does loops in a 4 foot space and knife edge loops. Michael is a great instructor and never seemed to get to recognition he deserved.

    I just wanted to say thanks for your mention on using expo to help with 3d. I always thought you wanted the very quick reactions of non expo setups. But when I put 50% expo into my DW Foamies 48" Juka, I could hover like never before. All my maneuvers were much better and smoother. Thanks!

    got to say I used to fly with my dad when I was young, im now 25, I found your videos and still had radio gear from before, old jr x347 and r700 reciever, I bought a dancing wings yak55 and built it, had my first flight in over 12 years and went really well considering how nervous I was. I can fly some more advanced 3d maneuvers on the sim but everything feels really different IRL. but felt really good to fly again after such a long time

    You're a Good Pilot because you know how to hold a steady throttle when you hover and harrier. Those who pump the throttle or Flex it as you say, is lack of skill. Have you ever seen a full-scale airplane pumping the throttle to hover or harrier? That's just bad practice to pump the throttle in an attempt to hold altitude.

    It is a very good explanation and talks slow for people that not speak english a lot. I can see it and understand what he means. Congratulations Michael. I should like one day to learn at least 1% of your skill.

    Thanks for this. Finallllllly putting together a 3D plane tonight after putting off buying one for years (??). My first question for you I see was already your first comment about throttle expo. I fly freestyle racing drones and nobody likes expo on throttle except me it seems. I find that if you find just that perfect sweet spot it really opens up your throttle precision around hover for proximity flying. But I guess I'll find out tomorrow when I try my first harrier with the advice you have here.
    Best regards,
    Fred

    • @FarmerFpv
      @FarmerFpv 15 днів тому

      @@potatopilot16 The only reason why The Timber X is not good for learning is because it's made out of EPO foam. When you crash it breaks into pieces. To learn 3D it's best to start with something from Twisted Hobbies made of almost indestructible EPP Foam and Elapor Foam. Any of the 32" series Profie planes are great. Before you move onto large scale any of their 48" series are tough as nails and fly like a bigger 3D plane. Especially if you add the FT Aura 5 Lite flight controller that has learning modes for 3D aerobatics. I have the TImber X it is a fun 3D capable STOL plane that I use to do 3D in the bush.

    Great info I just built a 4ft 6inch foam board plane I haven't installed the servos yet and glad I didn't After watching this video I realized I would have made the control surfaces way to small which I know a high wing trainer type plane like I built I don't need giant surfaces I think I need to go bigger on the surfaces and work out the throws with the control horns and rates Thanks for the great tips I subbed

    you also may want to add that in harrier turns you move the rudder stick to the direction of the turn but you also counterbalance the inside wing stall by adding aileron in the direction opposite the turn :)

    Hello I am new to RC flight. I hope I am not jumping the gun because this is the first video I watched on 3D. I found throttle curve is very helpful to get me into a nice slow and smooth high alpha and I can bang the gimbal pretty hard without it looking choppy. 1st 25% of curve is from 0 - 90% and the last 75% is used for the remainder of the curve. I use a Spektrum NX8. And again I am new and probably have no idea what I'm doing. Do you guys use throttle curve? I think 3D flight will be my path more than sport. Thank you for the videos. Look forward to seeing them all.

    getting my first 3D plane tomorrow...when you say 70% expo is that removing the first 30% ie -30% of the initial move of the stick is reduced by 70%? or reduced by 30%? Thanks

  • @iman80skid91
    @iman80skid91 Рік тому +1

    Do you have 60% expo on each control surface...
    Is expo needed on all control surfaces?

    • @MichaelWargo
      @MichaelWargo  Рік тому +1

      60% is a good start on a 3d plane. But I use an amount that feels right for each plane. I wrote some setup guides you can find on my how to 3d thread, as well as the PA site and other places. Wargo setup guide. Start at 60% on all surfaces. Then take it from there.

      FYI. Sometimes the cg is to blame, and others it is just the airframe and or all up weight. The more aft cg will help it. BUt you do not want a plane that is tail heavy.

      +786free1 Bad news is steering is absolutely a feel and practice thing. You simply add extra rudder or elevator at the right time... The good news is that it naturally wants to turn in a circle. It is hard to roll straight. The circle generally just happens
