Honestly, Chef Chris's breakfast is really cool! Who would've thought to use white bread as dumpling wrapper and poached egg as a whole filling for dumpling; all this served with a side of meringue!? a spicy one as well!? It's crazy how such simple ingredients and common preparations gets combined so creatively with skillful technique...
Love it when the pro chefs actually stick to the ingredients they're given instead of adding lots of stuff!! He made something incredible out of very simple ingredients - and it can definitely be replicated at home!
That only seemed to happen during the quarantine episodes when they had access to other things in their pantry. Now that everyone’s back in the kitchen it’s happening less which is appreciated
These pro chef vs home cook episodes are so much better when the chef sticks to the tray of basic ingredients and (only) improves them with his techniques and knowledge.
@@harmonynicolson2462 when did they add ingredients? i mean sometimes they use more of a certain ingredient than on the initial tray, but adding a whole new ingredient i haven't seen that

This is probably one of the best pro chef parts on the channel - he literally made a dish that looks jaw dropping and he used things that are in the pantry of people who practically never cook O.o
Agree - Chris and Frank are the two that always teach us something, though Chris' tips might be a bit more accessible for most people! His accent is also perfect.
Why is no one talking about the best quote if the episode "My wife likes her bacon extra crispy I like my bacon not so crispy I usually have my bacon extra crispy"
"I'm seeing more chicken than I'd expect for bacon and scrambled eggs..." Emily continues to be the most effortlessly funny person in the Epicurious squad.
It's probably because she's so relatable. I mean, I've never even *seen* actual caviar and there she is going, I have a caviar key I don't know how to use. What the hell is a caviar key? Emily is like, Ketchup! And we're like, hell yes ketchup!
All these years and so many Level 1 chefs later, Emily is still my favourite. Just so chilled, naturally funny and I’ve learned so much from her food journey :)
This comment always appear in Emily's videos of this series, but the home cook term here doesn't have anything to do with the levels in the 4 levels series. For reference, Emily was in the omelette episode of Pro x Home Cook back in 2020, and she is still a Level 1 in the Cookies episode in the 4 Levels (2021). John was in the Bolognese episode in 2019 as a home cook, and in the most recent episode of 4 Levels (ziti), he's still a Level 1.
@@gerardacronin334 There's no doubt she's improved, I suggest viewing her own channel, BUT what Fabricio says is true. There's been no "promotion". She's been doing Swap for almost two years now, and is always "Home Cook".
I really thought that Chef Chris would need to fish for different ingredients somewhere else for this video but omg he managed to do everything with bread, eggs, bacon, and jam.
wow this is absolutely incredible. I will definitely be recreating chef chris' breakfast. I can't believe he did that with basic ingredients!!! I have all those in my pantry now
Chef Chris absolutely killed this challenge. There was so little he could work with, yet he made such a unique and delicious dish... without cheating! I guess why I'm so impressed is, is that it looks simple, kind of like something anyone who would want to try, can make easily.
I love Chef Chris' recipe. It's simple but inventive and is way more cost effective. I will be trying this recipe soon. Everything he used is something I have around my house and I appreciate the new ways he uses ingredients.
The fact that Chef Chris managed to do such an impressive and unique dish without throwing anything else random in and spiralling away from the theme? Definitely impressed, I love when the chefs don’t bring out something else. He has so much skill.
I think Chef Chris had possibly the emptiest tray I’ve ever seen on the channel and yet this is an AMAZING final result. I’d love to see him more in future videos.
This is the one time I would have wanted to see chef Chris make both the cheap and expensive ones. Seeing what he did with the cheap stuff, his expensive receipt had to have been amazing
seeing wonder bread being used as dumpling wrappers just opened a whole new world for me, so much cheaper, faster, and easy for me to find I can't believe this is possible lol
What he did there with Emily's ingredients was WOW! And no it's not something just any home cook can do. The technique and imagination here: phenomenal!
Great stuff by Chris, but I'm a little sad he didn't use the cutoffs for some crispy breadcrums. Blend them up, fry them in baconfat - perhaps a little butter - maybe a hint of Siracha, and you have a nice topping. OR just with butter and salt to be the "caviar" of his dish.
I absolutely positively LOVE Chef Cheung's way of cooking and explaining here. I would love to watch a whole series (of like a cooking show or something) with him
I really like the egg and bacon dumplings! It was a surprisingly simple way to upscale bacon, toast & eggs. Meringue and candied bacon is gonna have to wait.
Thank you Chef Chris, for giving everyone an idea to make dumpling wrappers out of white bread. Though I'm kind of 50-50 on the candied bacon made with strawberry jam. Emily, you're a joy to watch on any episode of Epicurious.
Ive recently been making my own gravy and i love it. Anytime you cook meat, just make a simple roux and you got an amazing homemade gravy. Sometimes i just throw some cream, butter, and cornstarch to a pot with some meat drippings and make a cream gravy and it always comes out amazing.
it's a lot easier to guess the price of a few basic ingredients like bread, eggs & jam so Emily had more of a challenge when it came to guessing for sure
Genuine question: I've been watching this channel for several months now and I see a lot of comments about how the pro chefs who only stick to + improve the amateur ingredients without adding anything else are better than the ones who do add things. While I agree with the sentiment, I actually haven't seen a pro chef who did use additional ingredients. Is it just because I'm newer to the channel? Are there any specific examples of pro chefs who did add things anyone could give?
In case you haven’t seen already it’s in the older episodes the chefs used to add stuff from their home kitchen all the time albeit one or two things. Then I remember this one video with baking and the chef used her own fancy flour and maybe a few more things idk? But I just remember the comments complaining about that and, you know, I kind of agreed so that’s why it stuck with me. Nowadays the chefs really stick to the ingredients I’m certain due to the feedback in the comments
Whenever I see an asian themed video on Epicurious I think "will uncle rodger review this, and how". And I am in awe of how creative Chef Cheung is, who would think like that. That is one talented super chef
