arroyoernest1985, yeah, lots of patience and it looked like they achieved what they were after. But like you, I prefer it the other way. Red brick, to me, just seems too industrious and jarring. It’s sticks out in the environment like a sore thumb. The other way appear more natural and subtle. It allowed the shrubs and landscaping to have more of a presence in the overall look of the exterior.
I said the same.. I came to this video hoping he was doing red brick to the grey natural look but it's the other way around... ahhhhhh shoot,,, I love the original colored brick on this house.. my house has that same color red and I hate it !!!!!!
@@timfowler7107 Same here! And finding info about staining (not painting) seems to be difficult... old homes with red brick look outdated whereas the lighters colors are more in style now. The only product I can find is the color match kit meant for small sections. These companies don't want to sell the pigments for diy's, they want to charge thousands to do it for you.

Thank you for the video. This is exactly what I want to accomplish with my house. It was built in 1978 and is very close to the original color of the house you are working on in the video. I want to change that outdated tan/yellowish color to the more traditional and elegant reddish-charcoal color! Very well done!
I know some people disagree but I really like the look with traditional red bricks! It’s simple, classic and vintage. The popular white painted bricks just look sloppy to me. What stain color were you using and how did it hold up after winter season?
I agree. Thinking of staining mine this same way. The lighter color just looks so dirty or something to me. I’ve had it pressure washed and everything and it’s just not giving the clean look I like with the lighter/darker red variations
@@30somethingg I agree. My brick is exact color of the brick in this video and despite a western facing home with lots of sunlight. I still have a terrible time with black streaking especially below the windows. When we switched the shutters out you could see how dirty and darker it was from the original color.
Now mask off all the windows/doors etc. spray the entire thing in an off white marine based paint and roll the entire thing with a 9 inch roller. Your welcome.
Wow.... I liked the way the house looked before waaaaay better, however I believe the owner would beg to differ. BTW... The painter did an amazing job, though. Yes, I liked the other color better, but I have to give credit where credit is due. The guy is good, and besides, he is just doing what the client asked. Keep up the good work 👍
I want to do the opposite. I have the same red brick with variations like the one shown here and so does every one of my neighbors with the same home as mine. I would like grey. I believe this is the correct process vs painting brick which will damage it. How long does the stain last before needing maintenance?
yes we created a multi-color blend (3 different colors) to create the finished look. I appreciate you for you comment. May you have a Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays
What are your thoughts on staining it by hand vs using a sprayer? I really do like the look of having distinct mortar lines compared to spraying a stain over brick + mortar. But from a time/cost analysis, what are your thoughts? Will you need to stain this again in 5-10 years or will you get 20+? I've got about 1500-2000 sq ft worth of brick to stain. One of them is a vertical facade ~25ft in the air. Any tips? How did you stain the high spots of this home, was scaffolding, scissor lift, boom, or ladder used?
I kept thinking I wanted a grey look kinda like this house already has but once I saw more of brick done I started to like it I think if I just get my freshen up I might fall in live with it again
There is no grey brick on this home. It was a light tan/yellow. Maybe your phone or computer is not showing the correct color tones. If you ever decide to get into the business, it's always best to give the customers what they want: unless they hire you as their designer. This particular customer knew what they wanted and what one person likes another may not. To each their own. Again their is no grey on this home. To see the final look, go to acmstaining.com. maybe you will see the colors more clearly from the before and after pictures opposed to a video that was designed to help and teach others how to apply.
Are you able to use stain to make the house a lighter color? Like, say, from a red brick to a white-ish brick? (essentially the opposite of what is shown in the video, LOL)
Our brick was white washed. Can you stain over the whitewash? It kind of looks like the brick you are staining over now, but uglier. :) I want to stain over it to a softer redish orange color.
Yes my company does service the New York area. You can submit your inquiry on the website acmstaining.com or send an email to chris@acmstaining.com. Thank you for your time and comment
No one wants to sell it because the materials are cheap and they can charge you thousands when they do it for you... as if the average person can't use a paint brush. There's a kit on amazon but you'll need a few of them if you want to do a small house..

lol, I found this video because I have red brick (and hate it) and was looking to change to pale limestone looking brick, basically the exact opposite of what this home owner is doing

The house looked modern and beautiful before hand. The red stain just completely threw off the color scheme and took this house back to the 60s.
It’s a base coat.
thats the point! To make it look nice and old :D
