Peace/Love/Tap
In order, Arthur Duncan, Bunny Briggs, Jimmy Slyde, Steve Condos, Harold Nicholas, Sandman Sims and of course, Sammy Davis Jr. All masters of the art and still making it look easy in their 60s and 70s.
Is Harold Nicholas one half of the famous Nicholas Brothers from way back?
@@Winterstick549 yep.
I remember seeing this movie in the theater. I wasn't interested in tap dancing but loved Sammy Davis, Jr. I found it to be an amazing movie and recently started getting tap dancing videos in my recomendations. I'm becoming a fan.
Thanks for naming everyone in the scene!! I love this so much!
@@coraggio93 They did it again a few years later at the MDA Telethon. ua-cam.com/video/lfRk7nukFx8/v-deo.html&ab_channel=MDATelethon
This was in 1989 and Sammy Davis Jr passed the following year...they ALL still had legs! I miss Gregory Hines.
Possibly the best "Step aside, kid and let US show you how it's done." scene ever filmed.
so true!! this film is maybe for one just another dance film, but for those who know it is SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!
Indeed
This scene was wonderful.
💯
Bless their hearts!!!
That moment when you go "Oh shit, that's Harold Nicholas of the Nicholas Brothers" and you realize somebody's about to get schooled.
One of the greatest scenes in all of cinema.
The saddest part is these men are all gone now, and they didn't ever really get the recognition they truly deserved.
I agree
Also gone are Gregory Hines and Suzanne Douglas. 😢
Wow🫡
" Thank you so much
for all the wonderful
memories , Truly a
entertainment that never ,ever goes away
never :) FORGOTTEN.
Be at peace ✝️
you all have given us
so much joy. 🙋♂️
On the contrary they absolutely got their flowers while they were still living
Gregory Hines did the world of tap dancing a favor by making this movie and bring lots of the GREAT tap dancers together for this fabulous emotional type of good entertainment ! ! !
This film is maybe for one just another dance film from the dance film era, but for those who know it is SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. It is a masterpiece involving true legends at that time.
and the importance is that all those legends would be brought together, their varying legendary styles all memorialized on film for us to witness forever more.
It's crazy that Savion Glover is the only one still alive.Everyone else from this film has passed away. I'm so happy to have been born in the 80s and was able to watch this movie at 6yr old
Hooked on (Savion Glover) this brother since Sesame Street cameo when I was I kid! Great Tap!
My 6 year old granddaughter put on her tap shoes and (tried) to tap along with the old guys. She started tap at three years old and LOVES it!❤
BRings tears to my eyes. Todays generation has no idea of the greatness in this scene.
Thankfully I do.. Sammy the man
That's a remarkably popular and commonplace blah blah blah. Such a hipster thing to say, every generation.
You never lied😢pure untarnished & incorruptible talent
❤❤❤❤❤😢😢😢😢😢 truly
Absolutely.
It's awesome that Gregory Hines got to do a movie with some of legends just like Eddie Murphy with the comedy greats in "Harlem Nights". One of my favorite scenes ever...CHALLENGE
That's what I said.
I agree 💯%. I can't wait to watch both movies with my kids.
7 of the best dancers in the world in one room!!!!
That’s greatness!!!!
"I ain't challenge nobody..."
"Oh, YES YOU DID..."
That's the YOU MESSED UP moment...
Harold Nicholas was 68 when he did that split. Please watch Jumpin' Jive w Cab Calloway & the Nicholas Brothers in 1943 Stormy Weather film. Baryshnikov, Gregory Hines, Fred Astair, said it was the greatest dance sequence ever on film. Savion Glover said it would take CGI to repeat what they did.
Before Savion Glover finally became the goat, The Nicholas Brothers should have been universally recognized as the greatest dancers of alltime.
@@farrellcityking1honestly that is true and to bring it further in the Nicholas Brothers I forgot which one said that Eleanor Powell is truly the greatest tap dancer alive. Goes to show how masters respect each others art and honestly, I think Powell is truly the best but that’s my opinion.
@@wargamelarpdump2, Ann Miller?
1:55 "Bend those legs, Arthur. Bend 'em! That's it, baby!" Happy 88th birthday, Arthur Duncan. Keep proving Gregory Hines wrong, him saying you ain't got no legs.
Sandman in the corner 👂🏿 Ear hustling😂 the greatest legends of tap in one scene
Walking into a room of old men who all wear tap shoes around like they were just their normal street shoes, you would be wise to shut up and not give them a reason to break one off in you!
This will always be my favorite movie dance scene. Gregory Hines plus all these legends? YES!
You ALWAYS show respect to Old School.
One of my favorite scenes in any movie ever. Absolute magic
This whole movie was a masterpiece it's terribly underrated and it has some of the best talent I've ever seen in a film. I'm glad it was made Gregory Hines was a great dancer and actor and to have Sammy in it too. Wow
Absolutely amazing, the floor was smoking with all of that talent ❤️👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
🧨 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🧨
Hahaha I said the same thing lol they cooked his ass on the floor 😅
RIP Mr Hines. You are greatly missed.
Unfortunately, everyone of these masters are not with us anymore, including the great Gregory Hines. It breaks your heart.😢
Just SICK!! I always loved this movie. Saw this in the theater and stuck with me since. I'm only 28, but can appreciate that we are seeing ALL TIME Tap legends. Royalty in that world. I love the way the movie really was a tribute to true tap. We now act as if it is so low form of minstrel exercise, but it was THE dance of true dancers...Nicholas Brothers were the dopest!! If you haven't seen it do yourself the favor
Damn 😢u probably 40 now huh😂
@@atibarodriguez2.0 this was my Brother's post...he died at 29...but sure he would have been 41 #math
AMEN!!
@@kudabeen damn 😳, srry bro ,
It's the pure joy that gets me. You know they would be having just the same amount of fun with no cameras around to film them.
Here in Russia in 1989 (USSR) this film was also shown in cinemas. I went to see it 5 times when I was a teenager. This is a wonderful film. This scene is one of the best I've ever seen in a movie.
The first dancer Mr. Duncan spent nearly 20 years dancing on The Lawrence Welk Show.
I luv how Gregory was younger but still could keep up with the old cats 😍🔥. From a certain angle they look like they was shouting lol they took it to church the way they was clapping 🤣 👏 and Bunny's face at the end is hilarious 😅
The only thing more awesome than the pure talent and genius of these men is the absolute joy they show when they use that talent. And a true passing of the torch- from these men to Gregory Hines, the greatest of his time, all while grooming the boy who followed Hines and carved his own legacy in Savion Glover
Watching this again in 2024 smiling. So grateful that these guys were put on film!! Especially at this point in their lives. Phenomenal!
Tap!! One of the greatest arts we ever invented!!
Wrong.
It was the Irish
There's absolutely no tension in any of them! This is phenomenal! I mean, I would expect nothing less from these men, but it is amazing to see such rhythm being made without any holding anywhere! Ugg! Stunning!
When Sammy THROWS THAT CANE, DONE DEAL!!!
and when he gets caught, "gimme my cane!" LOL
ALWAYS RESPECT THE ELDER PERIOD
Best thing I've seen on youtube in forever. Nothing short of magical. My heart has been restored. And my dad said Hi to Gregory hines in NYC. This feed came at a perfect time.
It's crazy how almost everyone in this video is no longer with us. 😔💔🙏🏾
This is my uncle bunny briggs
❤️❤️❤️
I met you kind uncle when he married Olivette Miller and Olivette was a family friend til she died your uncle was a true gentleman and I was honored to know him
I have never seen any tap look so freaking cool. Amazing
To think this would the last time these legends will be together doing what they love. ❤
They made every moment count
Finally this scene has been uploaded in good quality! This scene is absolute movie magic!
I have always loved this movie and this has been my favorite scene I feel like this movie was so underrated and such a tribute and wow for them to all be together for Gregory Hines when he was at his prime and acting to be with the legends I still get goosebumps when I see this
Gregory Hines is such a great actor because he has to sit there like he is not impressed by not just himself but these legends
3:09 WAHOO!!! Now that's a ice skating shuffle right there. Let Slyde, Big Jimmy. YEAAAAA!!!
Top 3 of all time movie scenes, never get sick of watching this.
A beautiful moment in cinematic history! Sammy Davis , Gregory Hines and all the heroes of Tap!!
All those wonderful souls brought so many smiles to the people. God bless
Don't EVER DISRESPECT THE O.G'S!!!
...toto je klasika vybroušená do nejvyšší dokonalosti.. dnes už tyto kroky nejsou vidět a slyšet - takto to má vypadat..❤
Some of the BEST tappers of the 20th century, AWESOME movie...
Just the way the Sun, shines in thru the window at their feet, let's you know even the atmosphere knew it was in the presence of Legends.
i have this movie on tape. i put in once in while just for this scene alone.
Having watched those men in their prime day movies just flying through the air & seeing them still light it on fire in their elder years just divinity on earth.
One of the greatest scenes in film and one of the best I’ve ever seen
So much black excellence in this scene shoutout to legends who paved the way for us
Sammy Davis Jr made it look effortless!
My roommate and I just watched the tap dance episode from Psych. “That looks fun!” “You want to see some tap dancing. Let me show you some tap dancing.” Went straight to this video as an introduction to some real dancing. What I love about this scene is you get to see in one video how distinct each of their styles are comparatively. How fun it must have been to sit back and observe all these legends socialize and share.
The only reason I hit the LIKE is because there is not a LOVE button
I saw this movie in the theater and it was a treat.
Watched this movie with my late father (1938-1994) and i a lighty at 15/16 remembered how amazed i was to see the young gun (HiNeS) get outshined/outclassed and outdanced by the great old-timers.
I was smiling uncontrollably from ear to ear with him seeing how the greats showed off their skill and talent and will be remembered by the younger generation for an eternity.
It brought joy to my dad's eyes and he wasn't one to bring to joy easily (him being an old-time teacher/principal and strict disciplinarian)!
It brings with it sadness but great memories and one i hope to share with my son (my only child)!
Bravo!! All of the greats together. An honor to watch and should be teaching moment for all.
This just blows my mind, respect to all. And Thank you. My 88 yrs old acquaintance is in awe of how these guys can move like that at their respective ages , so am I.
Watching artists enjoy their craft is always great especially when they've reach such high levels.
The amount of talent in this one scene is just amazing to see. I have never seen anything like it. Sammy made it look like child’s play. Incredible.
This scene stills makes me my heart beat fast. I’ll never forget seeing this as a kid. Gregory Hines was my favorite. RIP to all these legends.
Don't underestimate the elders; they have more years and experience under their belt.
Historic performance.
The greatest movie scene...EVER!
Went to the theater to see this movie and I have to say, this scene is one of the greatest scenes ever caught on film. There’s a level of talent here that may never be seen again. And to think, the greatest dancer ever was just a kid in this scene, watching all the legends showcase their abilities. AMAZING!
it's sad to think about two great tap legends are long done now. I would have loved to see what Gregory HInes can do these days.
CHALLEEEEEEENGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of my favorite movies and one of the best challenge scenes EVER!
Arthur Duncan doesn’t get enough credit for being such a talented hoofer!
Indeed. We lost him in January of 2023. RIP ua-cam.com/video/g-jXvsCdjE8/v-deo.html
An era of entertainment gone forever. Art,talent and showmanship.
2 people ain't got no legs
I shed tears watching this, being so proud of these men, masters at their craft. We'll never see ths level of mastercraft in one room again. Makes me a bit sad.
One of my favorite movies
Ancestors digging in to come up! Sammy! Gregory! Sandman! ALL!!! Savion...they live on forever.
"I'll still be dying, just be more bored doing it."
Absolutely extraordinary
Now that tapping at its best. Wow that’s dancing ❤
❤
The best of the best!!!
What a treat to watch these men tap! RIT
Rest in Tap!
Pure talent much respect!❤side note Harold Nicholas DID THAT!
Hines is a GREAT dancer.........................and with Sammy!!!!!!!!!!
How effin cool would it be to be in this group of young men
These cats are super cool
Hats off to them all
BEST EVER! MY POPS HAYDAY!
Truly Legends
"A challenge." So so so cute.
The boys are having a great time dancing themselves to oblivion until the lovely lady shows up to put some sense into them with her mere presence.
Love this movie!!
All the premier tap dancers in this movie even at their ages, made it look TOTALLY fun n easy, but I had this movie on VHS, n even though I was young, I still would rewind this particular section over n over again trying to emulate all these ab fab older dancers steps, n it was NOT Easy, but very hard work n also quite fun. My Ballet 🩰 teacher, Mr. Louis Ravenal, was giving me extra lessons after class in the secondary practice studio room, in soft shoe n tap incorporated with my Russian Ballet School training!!!! That was in the 1970's n up to the middle 1980's, when I embarked on my exotic dancing career around the Detroit area at bars n theatres n in burlesque!;;! With my earlier training I was able to incorporate all different types of dance n styles into my Rock n Roll persona, as "Electric Liz" n " Heavy Metal Liz" which I was known for at that time period.!!! Loved it all so totally n miss it immensely, as the old age n fibromyalgia set in n limited me!!!! Love seeing these blasts from the past,!!!! Thank you for posting n making my night 🌃🌉!!!
This is awesome I love this movie
Sure sounded a challenge to me 😂
Make it go viral .
How have I not seen this movie?! Thank you for posting the clip
Jimmy Slyde is My favorite.
And then Harold Nicholas.
They ALL are 🧨 !
LOVE THIS MOVIE !
Seeing this again make s me laugh and cry at the same time, GREAT TALENT!!! Nobody can touch these guys anymore. Don't forget the great women of tap too!!
Legendary!!!!!
LEGENDS IN ONE ROOM!!!
OUR CHILDREN NEED TO SEE SUCH GREATNESS
THANK YOU!
Savion glover was the young cat in this.
