The reason bands like New York Dolls and MC5 have a hard time getting in is because they’re being inducted too late. They’re competing with 90s acts like Eminem and Beck who still carry relevance, so of course they’re going to lose. The HOF needs to play catch up with the 70s and 80s before they move on to 90s
New York Dolls are great- people nowadays must have a personality crisis if they aren't voting for them!

For me, it’s not about popularity, it’s about recognition. There are some musicians, bands, artists that really put the work in and made music that defined their generation, let alone their genre. I want them to be recognized for it, even if I really don’t care about the hall of fame as an institution.

Judas Priest should definitely be inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame Class of 2022.I can't believe they snubbed Iron Maiden a few years ago,too.They are biased.
'80s hair and image metal is garbage. I would argue it isn't even clear that those bands influenced much of anything worth listening to moving forward.

@@progrockdude2691 You can make an argument for that when it comes to Maiden, but Priest is very much in that vein of being about the image more than the music. They aren't hair metal, but I didn't just implicate that specific scene. Image-heavy metal bands from this time spanned everything from Poison to Twisted Sister to Quiet Riot, and most of it was subpar pop music.

Say what you want about his music from the past years but Eminem definitely deserves to be on this list for all his contributions culturally and lyrically in his early years.

The R&R Hall of Fame was never exclusively about rock music; Sam Cooke was one of the first artists inducted. A name change is long overdue

duran duran definetely deserves this.They have been around since 1978 making albums and selling arenas non stop and they influenced lot of bands and artists.I think they are inducting new wave bands now like cure and depche mode.

I feel like the nominees are HEAVILY slanted in Eminem’s favor. The only bands with close to the same name recognition, even among rock fans like me, is Judas Priest. Maybe Dolly Parton. Not to say Eminem doesn’t belong but it definitely feels like a stacked deck

I really, really don't like the rock and roll hall of fame. It seems like they've gone the route of including whoever will draw the most attention from the most people.
Eminem has nothing to do with rock and roll. Most of the people nominated don't. Seeing who they want to induct has gotten more and more embarrassing every year. Its okay for music to be a different genre, why do we have to pretend everything is rock and roll when the inductions roll around? None of them make any sense anymore, 80% of the inductions is just filling up tv time to sell ad space. I wish they'd stop doing it.

There's just no good reason why they only induct a handful of artists every year. And no good reason on top of that for artists as popular, important, and influential as Judas Priest and Kate Bush having still not been inducted, even after having been nominated before. I also don't really think the institute cares to much about who was voted for unless someone they weren't already leaning towards gets an absolute mountain of votes (like Rush did some years ago). If I were in charge of this thing it would just be a new incoming class every year. Just whoever the most worthy artists who debuted a fixed number of years ago are, that's who gets inducted this year. No maximum number of inductees either, just let everyone in who deserves it. Not sure what the ceremony would look like off the top of my head, but it'd probably be a lot more fun and a lot less suit and tie. This is rock and roll. The only people in suits and ties should be ZZ Top and Angus Young. Maybe just have a big concert outside the rock hall, change the induction date to mid summer, and invite every band that's getting inducted to play. They can still have trophies, maybe we can have a small cohort of people to announce each band as they're coming on stage for a song or two. Someone like Jack Black would be great. Dave Grohl too. Who debuted in 1997 that should get in? Nightwish, Daft Punk, Erykah Badu, and Smash Mouth. That sounds like a pretty killer lineup to me!
I realize now some years would be a lot more fun than others. Imagine what the induction concert for the class of 1977 would've been like...
