One thing I'll add is to surround yourself with other runners. I trained the last 2 years by myself, which included a grueling 5 months for the NYC marathon. It felt lonely because I had no one to relate to. I was the only person in any of my social circles who ran. I joined a local run club in November and the social aspect was huge! Having a mix of training runs and social runs added more variety to my week other than just trying to stack the mileage. I'm much more motivated now training for a sub-2 half when I'm surrounded by other people talking about races they're training for. And I get amped for my next run when I see my friends on Strava doing intervals and speed days. Surround yourself with like-minded people!
I typically run at night, but I just make running a non-negotiable. I have my plan, I am going to follow my plan. If I plan on running on Friday, I am going to run on Friday unless I am sick or injured, or there is some emergency I need to be present for. I bought plenty of running clothing so something is always washed. I have a hat and gloves in case it’s cold. I have a head torch for when it’s dark. All of this makes it easy for me to get outside knowing I’m ready for the run.
Great training talk! Lots of great info that can be applied to training blocks for any race distance. I’m really curious to see how much MILEAGE I can rack up this summer. My new (current) job is work-from-home. My wife is off in the summer since she’s a teacher and I wouldn’t have to get back just after 6 to help her get out the door for work and kids my 2 girls to school and the sitter. Thanks again for everything you do and for spreading the love in the Hobby Jogger Community. Up Your Best!
Shift worker Sergio checking in! This video got me feeling like jocko lmao my first marathon is in April and I’m currently dealing with far too much in my life, starting a new business with my wife while working too many overnight shifts, etc. Insert Jocko “GOOOOD”. Training is still going strong and I will be respecting this marathon while crushing it. Let’s GO
Treadmill situation was the exact same with me at my work gym. It was awkward for sure as I was waiting for the guy to get off the one working treadmill 😂
16:06 working from home makes a huge difference - it’s allowed me to run, play Padel and/or tennis and hit the gym/spa. It’s been great! Haven’t trained for a marathon yet though. Currently training for a half. I know I’ll have to give up tennis when I do & reduce Padel to once a week at best. Both take a toll on my calves and adductors.
18:42 I do worry about fuelling. Had to already shift my frame coming from CrossFit and lifting. More carbs than I’ve eaten in years on a daily basis. But I struggle to get enough calories in now and my longest run is 1.5 hours. Running 5-7 days. I need to find a way to get more calories in without feeling over full. I eat relatively clean, so that makes it even harder.
I usually run after work im on my feet all day at work so i find it better for the knees to do it after and its a good way to clear my head before bed but I also work so that I can run and lift its my favorite part of the day
@Supwell Love the reviews, they feel real without any BS. Hope I can get your input. I purchased my 12 year old son the Brooks Hyperion 2 because of your review. We always been Nike all the way, but he’s been loving the Hyperions. He’s 400M and 800M runner, getting ready for the track season. Do you recommend any other shoe he can alternate between the Hyperion, or should we just buy another pair? He loves the stability and the light weight feel because he does a lot of sprinting workouts. Thank you for reading this.
Does the Supwell Running Warehouse discount works in their EU site? It would be great if it does, supporting yourself and my pockets ;) Great video as always, and I find it particularly relevant as I am now venturing in the New Dad world! I've learned a lot from hearing your experience working full time, being a dad but also getting the MILEAGE.
Work your way upto running 2 hours twice a week and 3 easy 30 minute runs. 2 weeks before, only one 2 hr run and 2 easy runs. 2 days off, 30 minute easy run with strides, then marathon. Try doing all this fasted and low carb but increase protein and fat significantly.
Oh wait so you mean I shouldn't plan a wedding, have a 2nd kid, buy and sell a house and completely move house in the middle of my 1st and 2nd marathon blocks ever? Gotcha ;) Woops. That being said, without lunch hour during work from home days I couldn't do 5 or 6 runs per week.
4am get ur ass up give up some sleep so you can gain your running goal and attain it and get out there and get some gosh dang mileage at 4 AM in the dark when no one‘s out there and get it in
@ not if you’re trying to attain a certain goal a certain pace a certain speed if you’re not running enough miles you just can’t get there. There’s no way around it know if around mileage.
Relatively new follower of you, so I’m sorry if you’ve already explained this, but is the supwell app not actually an app? Just googled it for the first time and I couldn’t find the link to download it. Sorry for my ignorance 🙈 your channel is hype!
Thanks! As others mentioned link is in description - we do also have a mobile app using a platform called Circle. You can download the circle app once you've created an account online
“She hit me with the 27 mile long run in the streak fly 😐” 😂😂😂

I live in a home-work sweat zone, run to work, run home from work.
I'm pretty sure this was the birth of double threshold days.

Would love a video about how you go about running nutrition/fueling - eat in a day - why you're vegan, etc...
If you thought the Barefoot Mafia was extreme, have fun beefing with the Cold Brew Crew. These people are dedicated!

Working from home is only way it is feasible with small kids if you're trying to be consistent in my experience.

It’s a web app, not an App Store app, link in video description :)
Don't have to download software.
