@@TrixRN Oh no. Praying that you or your doctors will find something that will work. I hate to see your life so disrupted along with the pain etc. ❤🙏🙏🙏
Thanks Fr. Mike for this journey together. I wish you a happy feast St Micheal the Archangel, may he protect you and guide you through all your life. 🙏🙏🙏
Brothers and Sisters in Christ, let us pray for each other and lift them up. Remember the theological virtues of faith, hope, and charity. Thanks Ascencion team.
Saints MICHAEL, RAPHAEL AND GABRIEL, Assist us with your angels, Help us and pray for us ! Seek in us the precious blood of our Lord, which was shed for our sake. Seek in us the tears of your Queen, which she wept for your sake. Seek in us the poor, faded, ruined image of God, after which God once formed us in love. Help us to know and adore God, to love and serve Him. Help us in the battle with the powers of darkness, who insidiously stalk and oppress us! Help us, so that none of us may be lost, but that rejoicing we may one day be united in eternal happiness! Amen. 🎵Belong (Fr. Liam Lawton)
Father, may everything that I do this day, whether it be full of joy or pain, whether it be full of love or of grief, I ask that everything I go through today be offered to you just like Jesus offered everything to you. It is in his name we pray. Amen. 9/29/2023.
I am admiring how the Church layed out the teaching of the Commandments. Thank you Fr. Mike, you really made it more admirable by your readings and explanations. Glory to God!!!
Carelessness and pride make us not believe in the true God. It is true that we are idol making factories and even if you see this from an atheist perspective, it is not good to focus on idols as it distracts from our goals and the work we ought to do. As believers, when we only follow Jesus and God through Him, we make sure that we save time and energy and are not led astray. A great example from the book Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis. Also, I like the relevance of incredulity in this matter of faith. We often disregard proof and testimonies. The reminder about the definition of "heretic" is also important as it shows why only baptized Christians can be heretics due to their denial of faith. The Great Schism is also a sad event that gets highlighted here and sheds a light on the form of not loving the Church. The mention of Acedia reveals how dangerous sin it is that leads to other sins and betrayal of self as well as God. Thus, these episodes about God are important. Thank you for sharing these, Fr. Mike and Team Ascension! I'm praying for you all and for the fellow listeners. God bless
Day 272 God's first call and just demand is that I accept him and worship him. *Our hearts are idol making factories* Thing to note is We make idols out of good things and not bad things. But we take good things and make that as the ultimate good. *Only God is the ultimate good*
The affirmation of God "I am the Lord your God" means that the faithful must guard and activate the 3 theological virtues and must avoid sins that are opposed to them. Faith believes in God and rejects everything that is opposed to it. Hope trustingly awaits the blessed vision of God and His help. Charity loves God above all things.
😂What a wonderful session on the first commandment ! Thank you Father Mike for getting into deeper explation of this .I came to realize my sins I unknowingly recognized before against the First Commandment. God bless you more as we go along the CCC
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and mind and with all your soul and with all your strength [your entire being].” Deuteronomy 6:5
I am so grateful! We listen and learn but at the same time, we know there is so much more to know and understand; it's exponential in its possibilities for growing closer to God. I am sorry I have forgotten so much of what I was taught but I pray the layers of understanding will bring me closer to God and that I'll see His face in heaven with all those I have loved and will love. Nunc coepi again, a new day and a new chance to do God's will. 😊😇🙏
Thank you so much Fr Mike for explaining how we sin against God. Sometimes i go to confession and i dont really know what ways ive sinned but listening to you, i could be there all day. Praying for you and everyone here..God bless🙏❤️🙏
Amen! I had no idea about all these ways that sin can creep into my life. I too will be confessing for ages. Thank you Fr Mike. So glad we have a transcript. ❤🙏
Please pray with me. According to tradition, St. Gertrude the Great was told by Our Lord that each time she piously recited the following prayer, it would release 1,000 souls (or a vast number) from their suffering in purgatory: Eternal Father, I offer You the most precious blood of thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal Church, for those in my own home, and in my family. Amen. In her account of another vision, St. Faustina describes Purgatory as a "great crowd of suffering souls" undergoing purification. Further, she says that the souls are "praying fervently, but to no avail, for themselves; only we can come to their aid" (Diary, 20) Father I need your grace again because I am not the witness I want to be.
All doctrine unique to the Catholic church is unnecessary if Christ's sacrifice is complete. If Christ's sacrifice was perfect and he took away all sin past, present, and future than... Penance has no purpose. Purgatory has no point. Absolution is unnecessary. Need I go on? Yes, Christ's sacrifice on the cross is complete and Final. The Bible confirms this repeatedly. Flee this Anti-church. Trust In Christ Alone. Trust in him alone like you would trust a parachute. You can add nothing to a parachute by flapping your arms. Just as you can add nothing to the perfect and finished sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross for all of your sins. Do not cheapen the saviors work by adding mans tradition on to it. Find a real church that does not withhold drinking from the cup from its lowly non-priest membership.❤ *Honest questions are welcome.* ...
@@marsharr2877 Jesus defined my *_"brothers"_* Jesus exalted the word of God and obedience to it above his family members. Matthew 12:46-50 ESV - *While he was still speaking to the people, behold, his mother and his brothers stood outside, asking to speak to him. But he replied to the man who told him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.* This is a companion passage to Matthew 12. Luke 11:27-28 ESV - *As he said these things, a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts at which you nursed!” But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”*
@@yourfriendlyneighborhoodin1559 also- Do you believe God loves you so much and has an amazing plan for your life? Do you believe sin disrupted His plan separates us from that love? Do you believe the good news that He sent His Son to take away those sins? Do you believe we must radically reorient our lives around Him by being baptized to receive His Holy Spirit and repent ? If you believe these things, let’s start there instead and see how we both agree on that or not? I imagine you too believe in these things. But maybe not???? Either way, how about focusing on what similarities other humans might have with you personally vs differences? God is a God of unity and your approach seems rather divisive.
Yesterday I asked one of my granddaughters “tell me you believe in God”, she responded “I’m not religious. After a moment or 2 I responded, “ you and millions of others say that, but those same people will say they believe in God.” I hope I planted a seed in her heart….
That’s what grandmothers are for.😊 At 66 I still remember the deep faith of my grandmother & how I knew she prayed for everyone of us every night. She wasn’t Catholic, but then neither was I back then. I take her example & pray a rosary & the Divine Mercy chaplet everyday for my children & grandchildren.🙏❤️
Hopefully she will come across Christians who truly model the Christian life and not those who use religion as a stick to bully and control. The latter outnumber the former.
2088 'to nourish and protect our faith with prudence and vigilance and to reject everything that is opposed to it'. I have certainly become more discerning about who or what I engage with when it comes to my faith, not be led astray by self appointed spiritual mis-directors
21:38 Revelation 3:16 So, because you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth. Lukewarmness is hesitation or negligence in responding to divine love; it can imply refusal to give oneself over to the prompting of charity.
Happy Feast Day of the Holy Archangels, St. Michael, St. Gabriel, and St. Raphael! Just as a heads up, in every description of every video there is a quick summary such as this one: “You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.” Taking a look at the first commandment, we see how we are called to love and worship God above all else. The Catechism also lists the ways in which we may potentially fall into sins against faith, hope, and charity. Fr. Mike elaborates on these violations and reminds us that while it may seem overwhelming, God loved us first, and we must trust in him. Today’s readings are Catechism paragraphs 2083-2094. If you look right under the video where it says the number of views and when it was uploaded, there's a "...more". If you click that, you'll see it! Hope this is helpful for note takers or helpful for reading before watching/listening! Thanks again! Also thank you for the "What Catholics Are Saying About the Catechism in a Year" video yesterday. If you missed it, it's less than two minutes! It's awesome! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Thank you so much Fr. Mike, Ascension Presents, and everyone here for your spiritual and financial support. Hope you and yours have a light-filled peaceful Happy Friday!
I knew the video description was shown with the “more” button, but I had not clicked on it because I thought it wouldn’t be interesting. Thank you for pointing out what it said. Because of you I went to look. It also has a kind of imprimatur. Ascension has been doing a great job in their goal in helping Catholics grow in their faith.🙏❤️
Wow Voluntary doubt Neglect of revealed truth Heresy Apostasy Schism Despair Presumption Sloth Hatred of God To me all these sins stem from Pride. God have mercy on me. It feels like I need to be confessing every day. Maybe that is why the church recommends examen at the end of the day
My husband and I had to allow a grown married son to get what he’s chosen. It’s been the hardest thing because he’s chose to leave the faith and estrange himself from his family. It’s heartbreaking but we hold onto hope and pray for his reconciliation both to the faith and our family.
Greetings Father Mike, Thoughts :- -> Message reflect with, "The Quest in Spiritual Adventure of Understanding The Precious Love and Grace of God in every moment in every aspects of Life." -> Thanks Father, Team Ascension Press for Valuable Insights. With regards and Prayers, Ranjith Joseph (R.J)
Day 272 takeaways: The first thing that God ask sis that you shall love the Lord your God with all of your heart, soul and mind, and Him only shall you serve. There are many ways to sin against this Commandment - voluntary or involuntary doubt, incredulity, heresy, apostasy, schism. God has loved us FIRST. God does not demand worship because He needs it, but rather because WE DO. Our hearts aren’t idol-making factories. We make idols out of everything (people, money, things) and they enslave us so be on guard. Voluntary doubt is knowing what Christ teaches and refusing to believe it. Involuntary doubt is hesitating in acknowledging to tenets of our belief. It is different than questioning because we desire a deeper understanding. If I deliberately cultivate doubt, it can lead to spiritual blindness and hardness of heart. Incredulity is a failure to acknowledge a revealed truth and be apathetic towards it. Not every error is heresy. Heresy is not allowing oneself to be corrected and a post-Baptismal denial of truth. Apostasy is when someone totally turns away from Christian faith and no longer wants to be associated with Christ. Schism is a refusal to submit to the Holy Father or the Bishop. Despair and Presumption are two ways we can sin against Hope. By despair, a person ceases to hope for help in obtaining God’s forgiveness of sins. It’s a sense of being beyond God’s help. Presumption is an erroneous sense that we can save ourselves without God’s help. It also means thinking that one can sin all they want and God will take them back. One must actually REPENT of their sins. God can see into every heart. Being indifferent to God’s love, being ungrateful, and being lukewarm to the faith are sins against the First Commandment. Spiritual slothness is a sin when we do not respond to God’s love apropo to our vocation. Hatred of God is a sin that comes from pride.
September 29, 2023 Have you ever considered listening to Saint Faustina’s Diary in a year and/or EWTN Mother Angelica’s Classics to add to your Catholic learning? Oh my goodness so much life guidance in conjunction with Father Mike’s Bible and Catechism in a Year!
Yes Dawn, l am listening to Fr. Roesch every day with my old copy of the Diary. I like Donna Cori singing the chaplet and also the sung chaplet from Steubenville. Today l am listening to Donna's sung chaplet to St. Michael and the angels.
Exactly right! Only Catholics could be heretics. If you were a Jew you were deported, at times. Still shameful by today’s standards, but 😢things were way different then.
I think some nuance needs to be had regarding the atheist who would refuse God even if he appeared to her. As a former atheist, I had the idea of God as an abusive, megalomaniac who got off on the suffering of people. I know a lot of Christians who seem to embody that kind of personality; who used religion as a cudgel to abuse others, especially those they view as lesser. However due to grace, I have met Christians who were the real deal and they taught me the truth. For those people who would run away from God due to his abusive followers, we should pray for them.
Bless you and I agree we should pray for them. We cannot know her heart or her circumstances, which would affect whether the grave matter of her deliberate doubt is a mortal sin as judged by God. I think Fr. Mike described her actions as an example of the grave matter of deliberate doubt, in contrast to the lesser matter of involuntary doubts (hesitation or struggles) that otherwise faithful Christians may experience at various times.
FYI- the CCC leads us to Scripture as well. If you’re looking at the book itself, you will see all the scripture references in the footnotes that you can open up to that coincide with each number. It’s quite lovely. That comment leads me to believe that you don’t think Catholics read Scripture. Why would you ever state that above? I’m just curious. Also, Rev 5:8 tells us that the saints in heaven do pray on our behalf in intercession.
So what happens to our protestant brothers and sisters ? My father is in hospice. He converted to lutheran to remarry. He is a good man. What will happen to his soul......😢
The Church teaches that non-Catholic followers of Christ have the hope of salvation; they’re considered in the Church through baptism, but imperfectly. I’m pretty sure we covered this already.
Have you asked him if he'd like to speak to a priest? I know that's difficult but he needs to be asked because there could be doubts in his mind that he just can't verbalize. Let him know if at anytime he might like to, and maybe get a "blessing" you'll get on it immediately. At least you can have peace of mind that you offered. Only God knows the judgment of his situation. He's the only one who sees and knows the depths of his heart. I'm guessing that my dad has extra purgatory time for choosing, son after my mom's death, to move in with a lady who didn't want to remarry but they wanted the companionship. They were both in their 80s but he still should have known better. It was not a good example for the grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He did go to Mass up until the last few months when he started to fail and couldn't get himself there so he went with her to her Protestant church. If I'd lived closer I'd gotten him to Mass. He passed a year ago today. I pray for his soul everyday. When the end was nearing, and he had been put in the nursing home, I had a short talk with him about thinking about confessing the fact of living with his "friend" the almost 7 years that he did. He was to by myself in the beginning of all that about it not being right to move in but didn't stop him. I will say she was, and is a very caring and nice woman but she should have known better also.
So, there's the Sedevacantism group, who do not recognize the last few Popes since Vatican II......they follow all the forms of the Mass, celebrate the more stringent forms of fast, follow the precise formulas for all the Sacraments.......and yet, we are encouraged not to receive in those churches. This, is very puzzling
I’m a RCIA sponsor; I only had to sign-up & commit to weekly attendance & the holy days of Holy Week. I’ve been sponsoring for 5 years. In our parish the director is a full-time paid position, probably because we have classes going year round. We bring people into the Church twice/year, Christ the King & Easter. The best place to start is your faith formation office & ask about working with RCIA. I know in our parish we always need sponsors, especially men. God bless you.🙏❤️
There are only two persons in the New Testament who are spoken of as interceding for us from heaven. God the Spirit. Romans 8:26-28 ESV - Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. 27 And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. 28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. God the Son. Romans 8:34 ESV - Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died-more than that, who was raised-who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. Note how I lead you to scripture. Flee this Anti-Church.
Thank you Father Mike!❤️🙏❤️ THE FIRST COMMANDMENT I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself a graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them or serve them.3 It is written: "You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.❤

Saints MICHAEL, RAPHAEL AND GABRIEL,
Assist us with your angels,
Help us and pray for us !
Seek in us the precious blood of our Lord,
which was shed for our sake.
Seek in us the tears of your Queen,
which she wept for your sake.
Seek in us the poor, faded, ruined image of God,
after which God once formed us in love.
Help us to know and adore God,
to love and serve Him.
Help us in the battle with the powers of darkness,
who insidiously stalk and oppress us!
Help us, so that none of us may be lost,
but that rejoicing we may one day be united in eternal happiness! Amen.

God bless

God's first call and just demand is that I accept him and worship him.

According to tradition, St. Gertrude the Great was told by Our Lord that each time she piously recited the following prayer, it would release 1,000 souls (or a vast number) from their suffering in purgatory:
Eternal Father,
I offer You the most precious blood
of thy Divine Son, Jesus,
in union with the Masses said
throughout the world today,
for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory,
for sinners everywhere,
for sinners in the universal Church,
for those in my own home,
and in my family. Amen.
In her account of another vision, St. Faustina describes Purgatory as a "great crowd of suffering souls" undergoing purification. Further, she says that the souls are "praying fervently, but to no avail, for themselves; only we can come to their aid" (Diary, 20)
Father I need your grace again because I am not the witness I want to be.
❤May the light of Christ bring precious souls out of darkness and into the loving arms of the Shepherd through Christ Our Lord Amen.❤

That phrase sums it up so well, “You are God and I am not”
All doctrine unique to the Catholic church is unnecessary if Christ's sacrifice is complete.
Find a real church that does not withhold drinking from the cup from its lowly non-priest membership.❤

Jesus defined my *_"brothers"_*
Jesus exalted the word of God and obedience to it above his family members.
Matthew 12:46-50 ESV -
*While he was still speaking to the people, behold, his mother and his brothers stood outside, asking to speak to him. But he replied to the man who told him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.*
This is a companion passage to Matthew 12.
Luke 11:27-28 ESV -
*As he said these things, a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts at which you nursed!” But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”*
@@yourfriendlyneighborhoodin1559 also-
Do you believe God loves you so much and has an amazing plan for your life?
Do you believe sin disrupted His plan separates us from that love?
Do you believe the good news that He sent His Son to take away those sins?
Do you believe we must radically reorient our lives around Him by being baptized to receive His Holy Spirit and repent ?
If you believe these things, let’s start there instead and see how we both agree on that or not? I imagine you too believe in these things. But maybe not????
Either way, how about focusing on what similarities other humans might have with you personally vs differences? God is a God of unity and your approach seems rather divisive.
@@yourfriendlyneighborhoodin1559 sorry I had a lot of honest questions
@@marsharr2877 God will be asking the questions on judgement day, sir.

It's fitting to mention today that I've been bookmarking my Catechism with a St. Michael the archangel booklet.
Happy Feast Day of the Holy Archangels, St. Michael, St. Gabriel, and St. Raphael! Just as a heads up, in every description of every video there is a quick summary such as this one:
“You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.” Taking a look at the first commandment, we see how we are called to love and worship God above all else.

Many atheists saw the Miracle of the Sun at Fatima, yet there is no evidence of widespread conversion, but I suspect some did convert.
There’s a good movie about Fatima from the viewpoint of an atheist journalist. I don’t know if it’s based on fact or not.

In the Spainsh Inquisition, the surest path to acquittal was the words "I am a Jew"
Exactly right! Only Catholics could be heretics. If you were a Jew you were deported, at times. Still shameful by today’s standards, but 😢things were way different then.
There is no climate crisis!
Dianne Feinstein who recently passed away, pray that she had a last minute conversion and regret for all the BS she has been pushing all of her life.
Is despair the sin against the Holy Spirit?
Only if you truly believe that God does not have the power to forgive you or love you.
Diane speaks truth. If you carry despair to its ultimate end then definitely. As long as you’re alive there is hope.🙏❤️
No. Definitely Not.
So what happens to our protestant brothers and sisters ? My father is in hospice. He converted to lutheran to remarry. He is a good man. What will happen to his soul......😢
If I understand correctly. The Church is not saying all Protestants are not saved
Is there a course to take to teach RCIA classes?
Ask your diocesan chancery or parish office
CIAY is a good course:) BIAY too!

That atheist in your story is possessed by the devil. Very sad.
There are only two persons in the New Testament who are spoken of as interceding for us from heaven.
God the Spirit.
Romans 8:26-28 ESV -
Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness.
Romans 8:34 ESV -
Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died-more than that, who was raised-who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.
Note how I lead you to scripture.
