- This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB.
📖 Follow along with the official Catechism in a Year Reading Plan (AscensionPress...)
The Fourth Commandment addresses the most universal human relationship: our relationship with our parents. Why does God command us to honor our father and our mother? Fr. Mike explains why this Commandment sets the foundation for all the other Commandments. He shares the 3 levels of respect and what it looks like to honor our parents despite their brokenness and imperfections. Today’s readings are Catechism paragraphs 2196-2200.
Please note: The Catechism of the Catholic Church contains adult themes that may not be suitable for children - parental discretion is advised.

🙋♀ Elizabeth & All 😊Day 284 ❤🙏
Fr. Thank you ❤. Praying for you, for the Ascension team and my CIY brothers and sisters. God bless❤🙏
And sometimes we just have to surrender our hard family situations to the Lord, brokenness and all, for there is nothing more we can do - we need His healing and grace - we are too weak to sort things out, and our Merciful Jesus knows this, we surrender our families and ourselves to His merciful love.
While I was listening to this my sister called to tell me our sister passed away at 3 this morning. She was the first of us 7 to pass.
I'm so sorry for your loss. 💔
May she rest in peace. 🙏
I’m sorry for your loss! 💔
May she Rest In Peace. And, May your family feel the loving presence of God in your grief❤️

I was surprised at all the people we must honor but it makes perfect sense as God’s laws always do ! Peace and love to all, pray for Israel ❤
Wow, what a great lesson! Every person should listen to this! It would make the world the promised land! Thank you!

@@MorreHopePaul’s past was quicksand. The more he struggled, the deeper he sank. Just when we think he’s about to go under, he announced, “Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!…Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 7:25; 8:1 NIV).
Paul discovered a guilt-free zone. Through Jesus, every chain and shackle fell to the ground. Paul moved past his past. He trusted God with his future. Do likewise!
The remedy for our sin is not our work, but God’s work. Tell Christ what you did. You were not made to carry this weight. Only Jesus can take it away. Ask him to do so. And you know how he will respond: “Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28 NASB). God never gives up on you

@@KB_2161 Oh, thank you so much.
The 4th Commandment calls us to honour and respect our parents and those whom God, for our own good, has vested with His authority. It includes our parents to whom we owe our life as well our extended family. It includes people in office or position - pastors employers, teachers, instructors, leaders, magistrates - where respect, dignity and honour is offered irrespective of how they performed in their role or position. It's the role itself we honour and not the character. We live in a broken world where relationships and responsibilities are often tested. We pray for the grace to develop these personal relationships and primary responsibilities. 🙏
Scripture instructs one to “leave their parents & cling to their spouse to form their own nuclear family”! Just please let us go😅
If one acts dishonorably, setting a bad role modeling for life-skills, one has lost my respect; asap I will leave the toxic culture! The 4 Cardinal Virtues arm me with how to Forgive which does not mean reconciliation✝️
The word honor also means, to give weight to! I have worked with children, in children's homes in US, in orphanage's in several countries, and also street children. The most important is that I have heard or in US children's home, I read their social history, some very hard to read.
I have looked this word honor up and it also has to do with giving weight too. I have worked in a Children's Home in the US, and with orphans, and street kids in several Countries. In the US, we were to read the social histories of the children. There were many girls who were sexually abused by their fathers, step-fathers, relatives, and by boyfriends of their mothers. One story of a 14 year old girl in Eastern Europe. Her mother threatened her that if she did not bring food back for her from her lunch that she would beat her. She said this happened often since she started school. She then goes on to say that there was a fire in her apartment when she was not there, but her mother was, and she has this slight smile on her face. I also got to know several prostitutes because of helping to work in the area of Sex Trafficking. Their stories are also difficult to listen to. Over 95% have been abused in some way. I used to tell orphans that, yes God knew who you parents were but it was not His will for them to treat you they way they did. I guess it is similar when a good parent disciplines their child out their anger and needs to go and ask forgiveness, but this does not happen to these others. Scriptures are clear but then we need to ask God to always give us wisdom in our desire to be of some help to others. Just to know a little about me, three drowning incidents, one when my x navy uncle threw me off the boat into a river, some one needed to call and ambulance. Also and overdose, and my veins collapsed. So, real life experiences. Oh, I am presently in Kremenchuk Ukraine helping Protestant friend doing ministry too refugees, in hospitals, doing charity events.
It is without doubt that Christians - clergy and the laity - have desecrated the Lord's commandments. We must find the time to pray for our own conversion and the conversion of sinners. That will be the first step of our inner healing
I would like to Thank you for a wonderful afternoon in NYC. It was a day filled with the Lord. Thank you again.
Lord I love your commandments, may we learn to live by your laws and to know how to live your Holy and true will for our lives 🙏
🙏
Thank you, today this episode was so meaningful and had such relevance.
I grew up with 5 siblings, I am so grateful to my parents for being our parents. They taught us to respect each other. I am so blessed with my siblings who are still with me.
“A level of respect, simply because of the role”. This is so important! Thank you Fr Mike. ✝️
From the janitor to the CEO. Everyone deserves respect.
No matter who your mother and father may be, God's plan brought them together to give birth to such an awesome and beautiful creation, none other than thee.
“Do not rebuke an older man but exhort him as you would a father; treat younger men like brothers, older women like mothers, younger women like sisters, in all purity. Honor widows who are real widows.”
1 Timothy 5:1-3
Blessings to all who are participating in the CIY and BIY today🙏🏻🕊✝️🕊🙏🏻
My parents died early. Father died 29 years ago; Mother died 22 years ago. I think of them often and pray for them daily. I pray I honor them still by following the teachings of Our Lord and to continue to learn. Thank you Fr. Mike for your actions in my life today. May God Bless and Keep You.
Oh..I’m so sorry to hear this. I hope you are well. You must be very brave to come through this. God’s blessings!❤
Growing up we were INSTRUCTED to respect positions. Veterans were venerated. Seniors were 'mam' & 'sir.' Introductory handshakes were firm w eye contact. Was such a pathway for interactions tough? Nah!!! They made life easier.
Jesus have mercy on me and your underground church❤😭❤😭❤😭❤😭
@golgibella
What "underground Church"?
Thank you Fr Mike. Praying for you and everyone here. God bless 🙏❤️🙏
No, not everyone comes from a dysfunctional family! Have no idea why Fr. Mike would say something like that! I had a wonderful mother & father, thank God!🙏 Prayers for those that did not.🙏
I also had a wonderful family and I see several people stated that their family was great.
You are uniquely blessed
I get what Fr. Mike says, though. All of us, are prone to sin, and imperfections. Therefore, it is impossible for us to have perfect families. Wounds are created somewhere, even in perfect families. But with God’s grace those wounds are healed. My guess, from reading your posts these several months, is that you are a person of grace and goodness who is looking back on your life with a loving heart.
I don't think Fr Mike meant any disrespect. Our first parents( Adam and Eve) were dysfunctional so we inherited that along with concupiscience. Hope this helps. P.S. My parents were great too.
/@elizabeth
Regardless of how wonderful your family is or was, it is by definition "dysfunctional." Why? Because we are all sinners. Including each of your family members. He merely made a statement of fact, rather than intending any disrespect.
Thank you ever so much Fr Mike and the entire crew. May God bless us all Amen 🙏 ❤
For the sake of His sorrowful Passion have mercy on us and on the whole world. Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary pray for us sinners ✝️♥️🙏
Amen! ❤🙏
❤
May God be with all of your family. And may your sister rest in peace.
Both my husband and I are honoring our parents by not giving them what they want. Because what they want leads to their own destruction. We are honoring them, and our ancestors by breaking the generational sin and living Christ-oriented lives for the sake of our children.
Yes, we all hurt and have hurt. God forgive and heal. 🙏😔🙏💝
Let us pay respect, honor, affection and gratitude, towards our mom and dad, elders and ancestors.
"None of us are perfect." So follow the Decalogue and we would all grow spiritually and live in a world of peace and prosperity.
A mom and dad is the primary relationship of every human being, after God, as they gave us life and taught us about God, as children. This is the first and only commandment with a promise, " that it may be well with you and that you may live long on the earth."
Hence, we must respect and honor our parents and all in authority over us. Likewise, they too have duties and responsibilities toward us.
Good reading .thank you Father Mike prayers. Amen Lord Jesus Christ 🙏
I was taught to stand up when a priest entered a room I was in. Same with a teacher.
So much respectful behavior has been lost.😔
Praise to you God and Jesus Christ🙏❤🕊😇
Thank you Father Mike ❤🙏❤️
Does the fourth commandment apply only to our parents, or does it extend to other people in authority over us? (CCC 2197-2199)
Yes, this commandment extends to all those in authority over us - parents, teachers, instructors, superiors, employers, government officials, law enforcement, etc. As well, it includes our extended family - grandparents, elders, ancestors, aunts, uncles, etc. God has allowed them to have authority over us, and therefore, we have the duty to respect it.

Please pray with me.
According to tradition, St. Gertrude the Great was told by Our Lord that each time she piously recited the following prayer, it would release 1,000 souls (or a vast number) from their suffering in purgatory:
Eternal Father,
I offer You the most precious blood
of thy Divine Son, Jesus,
in union with the Masses said
throughout the world today,
for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory,
for sinners everywhere,
for sinners in the universal Church,
for those in my own home,
and in my family. Amen.
In her account of another vision, St. Faustina describes Purgatory as a "great crowd of suffering souls" undergoing purification. Further, she says that the souls are "praying fervently, but to no avail, for themselves; only we can come to their aid" (Diary, 20)
🙏🙏🙏
Thank you Father.
I can't believe we only have quarter left to go...
❤❤ Raise Your Name Lord Jesus Christ❤❤❤ prayers father Mike amen amen
I liked the information and reminder about respect due to different levels and reasons. The person being made in the image of God, the person's office and the person's character. These indeed help us to stay civil and stay out of trouble most of the time. Even Jesus practiced this and shared in His teachings. The last example of the addicted parent is true, especially about an alcoholic parent. We mustn't fund someone's destruction and that's why sometimes, saying "no" could be the kindest thing we can do to someone. I also like how the community is an extended family, besides our blood relations or family relations. Thus, including friends and colleagues too. This is why these commandments are timeless and will continue to stay relevant forever. Thank you for your work, Fr Mike and Team Ascension. I'm praying for you and for the fellow listeners. God bless!
🙏🏽
All of you people watching this please pray for a friend of mine her words exactly “I don't know if non-believer is the right word, I'm not affiliated with any particular religion, I'm probably agnostic right now, I do find value in the psychospiritual, maybe to say I'm questioning is more accurate.”
Day 284
*God has willed that after Him, we honour our parents to whom we owe life and who have handed on to us the knowledge of God*
Now everyone of us are coming from dysfunctional families and we have dysfunctional parents. The degrees of dysfunction can vary
But God gave this 4th commandment knowing that *every single individual would be born into a dysfunctional family* and not perfect parents.... That is the context of this commandment
❤
Day 284...Praying for you Fr.Mike..Thankyou for your time.

You have revealed Your Heart to us, help us reveal our hearts to You. You have changed us. We ask that You please change us again. Make us new this day and every day because we want to belong to You more than anything in this world or in the next. We want to be Yours and we want to do Your Will. I'm really hurting. I don't feel respected by anyone. I show respect.
Paul’s past was quicksand.

I don’t know if this child was Catholic or even the mother, but he saw the abuse that was going on between the mother and her ex-boyfriend for lack of a better term a couple of days ago the man tried to stab the mother who had a child in her belly this young child only 11 jumped in between the knife and his mother and lost his life. The mother is struggling to live in the hospital.. our society needs to start honoring the innocence of children, because I really don’t think a lot of adults would’ve been as courageous as this boy that tried to save his mother and his brother that was in her belly, please pray for her family and for her healing, and that the laws will change to protect families. I pray that God excepted this child with open arms, and that the mother will receive proper justice for this destruction of her family she did it break ties with this gentleman to protect herself and her children so let’s remember to pray with Grace and if conversion is needed may she receive it along with her and her extended family and children
However, one must be cautious when polite. Evil enjoys an opportunity to prey on the good mannered. Keep ones "guard up." Walk with decorum, but insist that another's character is spiritually examined. This is not judging. Its respect for self.

According to The Catholic bible, what is the 4th Commandment????
*****Let's try another bible.
Exodus 20:3-17
Douay-Rheims 1899 American Edition
3 Thou shalt not have strange gods before me.
4 Thou shalt not make to thyself a graven thing, nor the likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or in the earth beneath, nor of those things that are in the waters under the earth.
5 Thou shalt not adore them, nor serve them: I am the Lord thy God, mighty, jealous, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me:
6 And shewing mercy unto thousands to them that love me, and keep my commandments.
7 Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain: for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that shall take the name of the Lord his God in vain.
8 Remember that thou keep holy the sabbath day.
9 Six days shalt thou labour, and shalt do all thy works.
10 But on the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: thou shalt do no work on it, thou nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy beast, nor the stranger that is within thy gates.
11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and the sea, and all things that are in them, and rested on the seventh day: therefore the Lord blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it.
12 Honour thy father and thy mother, that thou mayest be longlived upon the land which the Lord thy God will give thee.
13 Thou shalt not kill.
14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.
15 Thou shalt not steal.
16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house: neither shalt thou desire his wife, nor his servant, nor his handmaid, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is his.
But, according to Catholics-----Those are WRONG!!!
**Let's try another Bible than.
Exodus 20:3-17

3 You shall not have other gods beside me.[a] 4 You shall not make for yourself an idol or a likeness of anything[b] in the heavens above or on the earth below or in the waters beneath the earth; 5 you shall not bow down before them or serve them. For I, the Lord, your God, am a jealous God, inflicting punishment for their ancestors’ wickedness on the children of those who hate me, down to the third and fourth generation[c]; 6 but showing love down to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments.
7 You shall not invoke the name of the Lord, your God, in vain.[d] For the Lord will not leave unpunished anyone who invokes his name in vain.
8 Remember the sabbath day-keep it holy.[e] 9 Six days you may labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath of the Lord your God. You shall not do any work, either you, your son or your daughter, your male or female slave, your work animal, or the resident alien within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them; but on the seventh day he rested. That is why the Lord has blessed the sabbath day and made it holy.[f]
12 [g]Honor your father and your mother, that you may have a long life in the land the Lord your God is giving you.
13 You shall not kill.[h]
14 You shall not commit adultery.
15 You shall not steal.
16 You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
17 You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, his male or female slave, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.

No one but Christ is righteous.
Romans 1:18-21 LSB -
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, both His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. 21 For even though they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish heart was darkened.

Jesus commanded us not to pray with repetition. Instead, he gave us the Lord's Prayer as an example of prayer.
*"do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do"*
Matthew 6:5-13 LSB -
5 “And when you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. 6 “But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you. 7 “And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words. 8 “Therefore, do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him. 9 “Pray, then, in this way:
‘Our Father who is in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name. 10 ‘Your kingdom come.
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven. 11 ‘Give us this day our daily bread. 12 ‘And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 ‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.’

Loving your neighbor as yourself is not the 4th commandment..Just confuding the 4th commandment..That was not written to Moses on the stones..that I know of..
Jesus. 335
Mary. 1
Mary was so important to the apostles when they were writing their letters to the New Testament churches that she was only mentioned once after Jesus had ascended to heaven. (Acts 1:14)
Jesus on the other hand was named 335 times. Mary was clearly unimportant to the early apostles. She has no role in salvation. She was an honorable young woman from Nazareth. She obeyed God.
...
There are only two persons in the New Testament who are spoken of as interceding for us from heaven.
God the Spirit.
Romans 8:26-28 ESV -
Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. 27 And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. 28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
God the Son.
Romans 8:34 ESV -
Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died-more than that, who was raised-who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.
Note how I lead you to scripture.

Lead me to the Scripture that says,"Everything Jesus and His Apostles taught is found in Scripture."
The Apostles thought Mary was so important, that St. Luke arranged his Gospel to show the parallels God made between Mary and the Ark of the Covenant.
1) Mary went to the hill country of Judea Luke 1:39; the Ark was found in the hill country of Judea 2Samuel6:3
2) David asked, "How can the Ark of the Lord come to me?" 2Samuel6:9
Elizabeth asked, "Who am I, that the Mother of My Lord has come to me?" Luke 1:43
3) The Ark stayed in the hill country 3 months 2Samuel6:16
Mary stayed in the hill country 3 months Luke 1:56
4) David leapt before the Ark 2Samuel6:16
St. John the Baptizer leapt before the pregnant Mary Luke 1:4
Revelation 11:19 The Ark of the Covenant was seen in Heaven. The very next verse, Rev.12:1, "A GREAT SIGN APPEARED IN HEAVEN, A WOMAN CLOTHED WITH THE SUN."
Luke and John were Apostles. See how important they regarded Mary.

Yesterday I addressed 2 of your unsubstantiated claims addressed to me on day 280. My answers showed verifiable, documented evidence of the TRUTH of the Catholic Church and that your claims were incorrect. Today I will address your claim that the Catholic Church made up transubstantion in 1215. This is false. I will start by quoting a well known PROTESTANT historian, J.N D.Kelly. in his book " "Early Christian Doctrine" published 3/29/1978, he quotes..."Eucharistic teaching, it should be understood at the outset, was in general unquestionably realistic; i.e. the consecrated bread and wine were taken to be, and were treated and designated as, the Saviors body and blood.
Speaking of the heretics. " they abstain from the eucharist and prayer because they refuse to acknowledge the eucharist is the flesh of our Savior Jesus Christ which suffered for our sins". (Letter to the Smyrneans 5.1) St Ignatius of Antioch. AD 110.
If you don't know who Ignatius of Antioch is, he is an Apostolic Church Father.....taught directly by John the apostle, who was taught by Jesus, was at the Last Supper and wrote John 6....the bread of life discourse. What better witness. !!!
"No one eats the flesh without adoring it. We should sin were we not to adore it". (St. Augustine, Emarrationes in Psalmas 98.9) AD405
"I promised you new Christians who have now been baptized, a sermon in which I would explain the Sacrament of the Lords Table......the bread you see on the altar, having been sanctified by the word of God, is the body of Christ. The chalice, or rather what is in the chalice, having been sanctified by the word of God, is the blood of Christ". (Sermon 227 AD 411).
This was Christianity until Luther rebelled claiming a different version of real presence. At the Council of Trent in 1545, the Catholic Church restated its position held from the time of Christ and defined it in detail to distinguish it from Luther's version. A name was given to encapsulate the details.....transubstantiation.
Protestants say our "wafer/host ( eucharist is the proper term )is abhorrent and idolatrous because it should only be symbolic. The Catholic Church stands firm on the witness of Christ, the apostles who were taught by Jesus, the Gospel of John 6 and the Church Fathers who continued to pass on that Truth. Jesus Himself has shown on several occasions that Catholic teaching is TRUE. We have only to look at the Eucharistic miracles that He has given us to say AMEN (so be it).
More tomorrow.
Thank you fr Mike. Praying for you and everyone here. God bless🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻
