Thank ya!
I never fail to be amazed at what a beast James used to be onstage. He was a force of nature!
More or less now he no longer headbangs like a maniac ( which is totally understandable considering neck injuries and his age ) instead he asks people if they are alive and does stupid screams.
How the holy Satan does he headbang like that and play at the same time?! It's hard enough to play like that and he sings AND headbangs like he wants his head to drop off....
Kevin McDonald just takes practice, obviously you’ve gotta know the song inside out first, but once you do it’s more just focusing on the 1 beat in the song and keeping in time. Takes practice and feels weird head banging alone at first
James the lion heitfield
mets en man
56:38 AlcoholLICA at their best hahahahaha
They were possessed by Tankard
42:03 Hah, there it is; shades of Hetfield's voice just a year later. I love finding these recordings of 1987 Metallica as James' voice began to really deepen.
brianyzq777 also in the Toronto 1986 concert there is also a shade of his deep voice in the middle of battery
I've replayed multiple times cause it is trippy to listen to, that almost sounded like the black album era
it's so similar it almost sounds like someone just took this part from concert in Seattle 89'
I myself have been looking for these videos for that reason! You can really really hear it on Sanitarium on this one.
Same man, even 86 is so different from this, and how his entire persona flips aswell as the band ofc after cliff dies, but James turned into a different breed and by 88 he had fully transformed into what basically is his voice and persona was until the black album tour and after, he just mastered it even more during that time ofc, But in this u hear his modern voice thru alot of the songs already especially Seek and destroy, Creeping Death, sanitarium and the thing that should not be, truly sick i love his young voice merged in there. James Hetfield is the God of Metal!
25:12 omg Jason!
.... and this is exactly why I miss his background vocals.
@@catfailla5881 nobody can replace him
1:15:40 wtf
Ive always wondered if that james. so funny
"Hey Lars, cut, cut..." 1:40:00
Wow james voice :0 Love it!! Sounds like a mix with his KEA, RTL, MOP and Justice voice
juanpax64 yes to this shitty voice
lol, actually 1994-1995 was pretty bad. I like 1996 and 1999 though
@MoisésCastroTV Por que le respondes en español?
1:15:07
A bit of tttsnb has his black album voice
Awesome! This is pretty nostalgic cause i was actually there. This was my third Metallica show.Saw them 84 in Stockholm and then 86 ,Cliffs last one, which was fucking sad,but im still proud to have been there.Best band of all time and they still are.Got the ticket to the last show of Hardwired tour(Helsinki)and my son is going with me,and its his first time. The Metallica family just grows and for a big fucking reason. Thanks metfan4I for this one!
How much did you pay for a single ticket for the next show, if that's not too indiscreet?
Can"t remember the actual price, but as far as i can recall it was the regular price. Was this question a joke!Hope not.I"ve seen Metallica over 10 times and have never wrote down the ticket prices.Keep on thrashing!
Can't see why my question would be a joke... I had been checking prices for different upcoming venues (they all sold out by now), was just curious to compare, but apparently it's a top secret for some reason. Glad for you and enjoy!
Damage Inc what was your 1st impression of jason and the robert
Learned to love Jason, and Robert does the job.Cliff was from another planet. But to be honest,Metallica has always been a Hetfield/Ulrich corp.
They wrote all these superclassic songs at a very young age, makes it all so much more impressive. Their songs were not only catchy yet brutal but also complex!
That Jason solo at 29:47 was awesome
It sounded like pirate music
Well, James is a god.
I love Metallica.
This concert is just a few days shy of being 30 years old and took place less than 5 months after the death of Cliff Burton. Was nice to hear the crowd welcome and chant Jason's name. The whole band is crushing it. Kirks solos are on point and James is in beast mode!
Amazing footage and having the soundboard audio for most of the set is kick ass!
they was actually 24-25 there
@@ionpo8161 did you not see him write “the concert”?
Soundboard audio starts at 1:49.
metfan4l thanks for this brother! 🤘🏻
Thanks!
i have a question. 42:00 skip to that time and listen to his voice at the end. you did something to the audio or is the original because it sounds like it's straight up copy pasted from Seattle 89. Of course I'm not accusing you of anything but I'm just asking
Its just that james is in grief inside because of cliff, you can hear it in his voice
That's precisely what prompted me to look back at the old shows. Might sound fucked, but when I'm feeling down or pretty terrible inside sometimes listening to others turning their pain into soundwaves that surpass the meaning of language is a healing force.
Pink Cassette same dude
Bullshit lol
You hear the maturing too going darker, deeper and thicker in the voice
1:17:40 holy shit, i've never heard him play diminished arpeggios that fast.
James voice fully matured as soon as the white hi tops disappeared.
Not to argue cuz I agree with you but didn't he have them on in this concert?
Marty Carr, yes he did, but I beg to differ. His voice was great in 1985-88, where he used his white shoes. Yes, he became a better singer after AJFA and The Black Album, but he didn’t have as much energy..
such a silly thing to notice and compare. Plus white high tops were a staple among 80s fashion
Miselfis shows from 88 and 89 had more energy in my opinion
@@calebheney302 you mean those shoes ? Yeah I had a pair of converse in 88/89
This tour is definitely the best their guitar tone ever sounded live. Killer tone
1:07:28 "Peanuts" theme lol
Thank you! I knew that sounded familiar
"Linus and Lucy" by the Vince Guaraldi Trio.
Their performance changed a lot from 86 to 87. Some of the raw anger went away, they started to tighten up their playing, a little slower and heavier.... until they peaked in 89.
I was there,,,
As I was on Cliff's last performance in Stockholm
@Johan Ramirez He also added "as I was on Cliff's last performance", which is another gig that he attended.
You lucky duck, had an older co worker who saw metallica back in the day in Sac with cliff!
Must've been an amazing show. It was James first time playing guitar for weeks, and cliffs last show.
How Heavy, Thrasher sounds 'Battery' So much energy OMG
53:01 will you please rise for the American national anthem
the moment the sound changes to full SBD, on Battery, is just great!! ace soud, ace gig, ace setlist, ace vid!! fuckin' beasts... gears in motion ⚙_⚙_⚙_⚙
Kirk's Jackson was still shiny here. - If you've ever seen how beaten up it has been the recent years.
Kinda funny how his main guitars are ESPs, but he really loves that Rhoads.
The Mighty Metallica in 1987 were fucking great.
this era james should be in the hall of fame alll itself....i mean...c'mon.......
42:03 that voice though
James greatest vocals!
The sound is incredible for 1987. Guitars are chuuuggging.
Very good for a old recording
James could never get old
I agree :(
James is in God-mode here.
holy shit, that transition from bass solo to whiplash tho
More energy than an adhd kid...
Wow,Metallica back then where proper thrashers.Just missed them on the MOP tour of the UK,but I did see them at Donington in 87 just after Garage Days was released. Then saw them on the Justice tour in the UK.
One of the greatest versions of Master of Puppets ever performed
The Thing That Should Not Be too
One of the best I've seen on UA-cam so far
Joan Chavarria Mexico city show is as good as this
As much as I and most if not all fans are behind james on his sobriety... I highly enjoy crazy intense boozer James shows 😵😎
James would be dead if he wasn’t sober
@@AICfan50 perhaps so... I wouldn't be able to state that as definitive fact BUT... I do support/respect & encourage James sobriety.
Thanks for this grat concert bro¡¡¡¡
Thanks for quality ......... Awesone sound awesonr bass....
I like Lars Ulrich's drumming style while plays Master of Puppets
The PINNACLE of metal right here.
Damage Inc. sounds amazing
owowow this is absolute!!! the whole band is a beast!!!
Great video
For whom the bell tolls was fuckin brutal as shit
Fuck yeah! Thanks for the upload. This is pure fucking gold!
Great job on this! There is a full recording of "Fight Fire With Fire" from an audience recording (audio only though) that circulates. I believe the speed/pitch is wrong for the audience recording but that can be fixed.
Those were the days! I miss that! Pre-internet shit...just pure badass magic!
The last final damage inc tour. 1987
Do you mean the last show of the Damage Inc. tour?
Excellent job on this soundboard audio is great, actually incredible, however when I was 14 i saw these guys @ Foxboro staduim in Mass (Stadium for the New England Patriots) they were with Van Halen and Scorpions, Dokken and Kingdom Come, but was incredible so seeing this just a year later allows me to take in what it was like. Appreciate it !!!
one of the best metallica concerts. amazing......
Damn that damage inc was up there with a slayerish tempo!!! Fast as hell!!!
Wow pure Metallica Marshall sound gotta love them both long live the king's
Wow great footage! How most of us who grew up listening to them in high school remember them!
Exactly!!!
Man I remember these good old days.
What a gig.Long live METALLICA the best band of all times.
Cheers from Uruguay!!!!!!!!!
My wrist and forearms would burn and stiffen out with the quickness! The guys are playing the jams 2/3 times faster 🔥😆😎
This audio quality is better than thir new concerts haha
Nah...
You is fanboy Metallica old school... Holy shit...
New Metallica is very good!
dave94life There is no new nor old. Its just metallica and they still kick ass.
@@saynotoerrors4355 Only if it's in your fucking imagination!
Not quite but for a recording that’s 36 years old it’s very good
James voice is so goldy utmost
Love how they sped up The Thing That Should Not Be. That intro riff is so ominous.
Special moment in the Metallica's life
53:03 blurp oh my god
solo of kirk fade to black is perfect!
I think this is Metallica at their very best. Even though I love Jason newstead I can’t even think how mind blowing this would have been if Cliff was still around for these bigger productions and this level of tightness
My first Metallica concert was in 1997, 10 years after this one. They were even more aggressive back then.
Nice, I was there. Metallica was suppose to have come earlier that year but something happened at it was cancelled. So I got the chance to see them. I remember that they had the intro but the sound was out just a second before hell broke lose. Great show, so much energy. I also saw Cliff's last show in Solna.
Dude, the Cliff's death delayed the whole Damage Inc Tour (post 27th September), this was the last date of that tour.
I remember this concert! It was also the final show of their European tour since they had to cancel the original gig due to the terrible incident. Not totally sure but I think it was Lars Ulrich's birthday as well. We (me and friends) had tickets to the first gig in 1986 but had to wait until they returned in February with Jason as the new bass player. It was wonderful to see how everyone welcomed him. Amazing night, amazing days in the 80-s when Metal ruled the world. Thanks for the upload, I love it.
Holy shit this sounds good
Debut last caress! Wow. Great show.
1:08:09 Burn. Hell yeah great song.
Awesome, is a fucking great show. I liked a lot. \m/
Holy shit prime Metallica live was something else
So damn good! The energy is amazing. Hell Yes!!!!!!
I bought this as a bootleg cd about 25 years ago, tower of strength I think it was called.
Ride sounds as hell with that tempooo
I think this is the concert my dad went to when he was 17
rip cliff u f****** legend
What a fucking beast James was
i was one year old when this happened
James was wild on stage at this time but his playing is still tight. u can still hear the chugg.
Old School METALLICA!!!
I had this bootleg in CD: "Europe 1987"!!!
This will forever be on my top 10 Metallica shows ever. Wish I coulda seen them in '87. They were utter savages back then. Might even be top 5 for me.
Why would anyone dislike this video?
Wait did he actually forget the lyrics to trapped under ice at 1:10:37
Awesome concert! James was screaming at loud :D and when he played ''The Thing That Should Not Be'' used Jackson guitar :)
1:08:20 ... wow
1:49 Holy shit there we go!
holy fk, imagine being there live and have these songs as the "new shit"
The best metallica
3:44 dang James haha
James vocals in Sanitarium!
This show is at 1000 mph, the rage inside James is amazing
Before Monsters of Rock, the '77 Nugent face, and a few hundred bottles of the Jaeger, fully scarring James' throat for the peak of Seattle '89.
Holy shit, this show is SPECTACULAR. Reminds me of some of the footage from Cliff 'Em All (minus Cliff, obviously). WOW @ that fucking energy! The contrast between this show and any performance from them over the last couple of decades is staggering. Better to burn out than to fade away, guys. You should have called it a day after Justice. I know it's cliche to say that at this point, but it's goddamn fucking true. JUST LOOK AT THIS VIDEO. Fuck, man. From godlike to... whatever the fuck you'd call their miserable efforts lately.
Thanks for posting this! Just phenomenal sound and energy from a once stellar band. Goddamn, I miss them.
1:48 SBD Audio starts
Controversial opinion: This is the best Metallica show.
Imagine these guys playing The Memory Remains, Bleeding Me, Through the Never or NIB by Black Sabbath.
