Great video, Leo. I have no problem using AI tools for mastering my projects because frankly I suck at it. But those tools only enhance what I have already created. Listening to AI created music would be like watching robots play football. It might be fun but I doubt there would be any emotional connection.

I was expecting a guitar part or something. I had no idea they could do so much.
Having said that, I make music to improve my mental health. There’s no better feeling than being in the middle of a track and being proud of myself. When it’s finished I usually get depressed for a couple of weeks and start again.

You are absolutely right, AI might be a tool to help your in the creational process but it will never replace it entirely, unless AI develops something like conscience or soul, the ability to process input, information on an emotional and a personal level trough reflection and even then it will be like you having art made by someone else and claiming it’s yours, just for fiscal reasons, it’s ridiculous. AI draws its creational power from the sum of all human input in one form or another. It crawls its library of content and looks for a generic, best fitting or applying sample that is mashed up with another fitting best sample to generate something that is most fitting to the request it has been given. I tried this with Chat GPT and lyrics and the result was let’s say ‘cheesy’. There were some good breadcrumbs but it never came even close to what I really wanted. You always needed to edit it on your own in the end. Why don’t do it entirely on your own? I mean, you have to specify your request so closely that the request ends up being a book itself and it still doesn’t match with your idea on an emotional level. And let’s be clear, AI is really bad when it come to metaphorical use of language, or everything that is closely tied to human emotions. It cannot exaggerate, ridicule and do all the little emotional things with language on its own unless you request it specifically, because it can’t read your mind. Well maybe with Neuralink 😂.

Nice video as always. I agree with you on almost everything. Of course a musician will always feel the need to express himself and his emotions, but it scares me that we live in a society where economic interests have priority, so I ask myself: why should record companies pay real people for create music for entertainment, advertising, videos etc.. when they can pay ridiculous amounts of money to have an AI do it? Living on music will certainly become very complicated even if I believe that nothing will ever replace the emotion of seeing a human musician playng live. After all, there are already machines that lift incredible weights and run at crazy speeds but we humans continue to get excited watching athletes at the Olympics as they try to overcome their own and other people's limits after years of immense sacrifices.

I totally agree with you, Leo. However, the big companies will use these "music" generation tools to avoid paying royalties. Also, we've learned over the past few decades that algorithmic music can satisfy the average person (sadly). Commercial music is not sending a msg from one person to another... it's a collection of algorithms, a team of writers, and a carefully constructed (and auto-tuned) celebrity as the singer. We are witnessing the worst quality audio-generation tools now. In 3-5 years, the tools will be significantly more advanced.

I completely agree with you. Every art form is an expression of a human being, a kind of story, generally speaking, a form of human communication. AI is, by definition, not human. And therefore, while I might be completely wrong about this, I believe AI will never be able to be a substitute or replacement for real human art. For example: Bach, Beethoven or John Lennon in music, Shakespeare, Dante, Goethe or Dostoyevsky in writing, Da Vinci, Picasso or Rembrandt in painting are all uniquely human. Imho no AI will ever be able to replace all these great masters, although AI might be able to deliever some more or less good imitations. But not more. But I might be completely wrong about this and who knows what the future will bring?

Yes, that's pretty logical...but I would not under evaluate the power of A.I....I'm not completely sure that in terms of creativity they will not surpass humane being...what I'm pretty sure about is that human will always have the need and the urgency to express themselves through art....Nevertheless, as you said....who knows what the future will be...

the vocal timbre created by suno is really interesting and I suppose it can do female timbre vocals too. Is realtime the process or rendered? It can be good for demos. Can suno follow strictier prompts like the key of a song or do the vocals only? Multiple vocals in harmony or a choir? Imagine an harmonizer pedal for vocals or guitar that has the same characteristics of a double tracked real vocals or guitar for instance, in the near future... the possibilities, no more sample libraries or synths, in a way the theoretical essence of creation, 'cause is another tool - un altro strumento da suonare no?

Nevertheless, the individual and cultural functions that real music performs will continue to serve needs, and retain purpose. The key to these AI tools is that they access the sum of human production and mimic it. Without the creativity of humans to generate music, then AI would have no ability to create the neural network to generate music. AI is not creative, but it can be an enormous tool for data handling.

Humanity has no loyalty to artists. We’ll be replaced as soon as they can pull it off. As long as it scratches the same itch. And I don’t believe for a second it won’t make something truly impactful. Look where we are already. I heard an ai depeche mode song and I was floored. It wasn’t perfect but had you not told me it was ai I would’ve thought it was some mid tier DM.
Maybe the future musicians will be more like dj’s. Just tastemakers and prompting pros. Today most electronica and hip hop requires almost zero musical know how and relies heavily on loops and samples. Not much different. And many of these artists don’t care how they get the end result. They just want the results. And they have zero problems calling themselves a producer afterwards. Shame has died.

Generative AI tools are great to quickly and cheaply produce generic content, for any other use they are pretty limited since tailoring their behaviour is very difficult, also it's impossible to reproduce the exact same results twice, if you are using real AI tools and not scammy algorithmic stuff.
Unfortunately we won't be seeing much improvement any time soon after this groundbreaking start i'm afraid, since all the approaches we have right now are based on brute force, it's easy to produce "anything", but very hard to produce something specific, we have little control on the technology. 20, 50, 100 years from now, we'll see!

The AI samples you show here all start with a dead giveaway flawed premise. They presume pitch and meter should each be absolute and correct. Musicians do not perform like that, thank goodness. It is ironic that AI would start with these flawed assumptions because so many in real life pop assume the same, to the their detriment. Who’s following who?🤷🏽
Great music is gloriously nuanced and I don’t believe AI, which is algorithmically rules-based is ever going to find the secret to that. That secret lives in the human mind, influenced by emotion and mood, and the only thing that can be predicted is that it will never be predictable.
