    I think Epiphone is probably the only Gibson i would buy and feel like the quality and price were good. I played a 339 for a month and really enjoyed it, finding zero flaws (except my own). The Casino looks rad. The hollow body is something i took for granted while using the 339 and waiting for a strat to ship, and i now have it on my radar for the next one. The body is comfy, looks nice, neck/frets are good, hardware and tuners are all good enough to not give me anxiety over. If the Casino behaves anything like the 339, then its predictable and tuning stable in my area where we go from humid to dry rapidly (SC Coast). Im going to have a mental duke-out with a casino or an acoustasonic (used), but that next purchase is prolly a year out and the Asian manufacturers might just completely own the sub-500 dollar guitar segment by then.

    I don’t know what the secret sauce is with the p90s in these Epi Casinos, but I swear for the last 15 years, any time I’ve played one in a store, the p90s have always sounded phenomenal. Punchy, clear, high output, fat. I’m sure the hollow construction of the guitar helps a little, but the pickups have always seemed so consistently good. I regret never pulling the trigger on buying one of these.

    • @ravenslaves
      @ravenslaves Рік тому +4

      The right pickup for the right guitar. I had a few guitars with P90’s, a few years back. I had the idea to swap the pickups around to see what, if any, difference it would make. Surprisingly, the pickups did not all go back to their original homes. Some of those pickups sounded better in other guitars.

      Try scatter-wound, low output PAFs, like Tonerider AC2. They have a very similar tone even in a solid body Les Paul.. Airy, with that bark and punch, while having the greatest sustain and great clarity, note separation and dynamics..All while being much less noisy.

    Les Paul Junior with a chunky neck is one of my favorites. The old "$80" LP Junior Specials (those bolt on neck ones, often with laminated bodies) are awesome to find. That 'Contemporary Squier HT' is designed like the Robbie Robertson signature Strat with the middle single coil moved back next to the bridge (a build style I keep on my short list of future projects).

    • @thestereoclub6735
      @thestereoclub6735 Рік тому

      Totally agree with your comment about the Specials. The body material is often laminate when MIK, but recent examples are a trans color over a respectable multi-piece mahogany slab. Sand the color off just the top for a very different look. The poly is mostly clear coat with a bit of trans red or yellow on top. I have a Special body from about 15 years ago that has insanely gnarly figuring in the mystery wood. And adding a Bigsby is super easy.

I like the Ibanez AS73FM-TAF that I picked up for $449 (added a Custom Pickguards replacement in black pearl ~$50 after mailing in the tracing). That Wilshire is very cool looking. It's almost got an Fender Offset vibe too it.

    The Epi Juniors are nice, but If they would've had an Epi Special in there, I bet you would've brought that home! The casino definitely has a broader appeal. Fun video!

    I played a Wilshire the other day and it was amazing. Definitely loved it, and would have been a top contender for me

    As a normally high output, overdriven player, I still liked the Casino the best. Those cleans are so crisp.

    I'd have gone with the casino too. Never played one. But it certainly has the best looks amongst all of them, at least for my taste.

    I have one of those worn casinos. Sounds great, had to do some setup stuff but I play it more than any other guitar because I can tote it around the house.

    Robert,
    I’m so glad that you chose the Casino. I have the same model from CME in Sunrise Orange.

    If I only had $500 I would definitely go used and would have been looking at a whole different category of guitars. Of the ones you picked, good choice. Sounds amazing

    Manufacturing methods and practices have had a phenomenal jump in quality. Not to mention the quality of materials chosen have improved a lot. I think the first few years of any new production is hampered by wood that hasn't properly aged yet, so we as consumers end up with less than mature end product. Within a couple of years,, the body splitting and/or the neck twisting will happen. Properly aged wood, e.g. low moisture, will have had those flaws identified and worked around

    You came up on my feed and I clicked on this video randomly. I'm about an hour north of Mansfield. Didn't expect a local place in good old Ohio. I've never been to Metronome but I might have to check that out. I just recently got to play a Casino, they're really cool guitars.

    Excellent choice Robert !! The Les Paul Jr. was my choice by a slim margin over the Casino.
    What a great person you are man !

    I love the double cutaway, f-hole designs. My current favorite guitar I have is an Epiphone ES-339. I tend to lean towards semi-hollows for the thicker, more rock tone, but I've played these Casinos in Guitar Centers and they are definitely nice as well. The satin finishes are especially awesome and I wish they had ES-339s with that same satin finish. I actually have a Dot I might end up selling this year because I haven't bonded with it, and if I were to ever replace it with something else after I probably sell it, the Casino would be a top contender, since it has a similar look and feel but is louder unplugged, which is how I often play the larger electric guitars. So it would be awesome to win one! Definitely would love to add a P90 guitar to my collection, too. I've been considering either the P90 version of my ES-339 Pro or the ES-339 sized Casino, the Casino Coupe. Oh, and I guessed right! :)

    I just got a Squier Contemporary Strat before this was posted and I was sold once I heard it in person. 3 single coils but, position 1 are the 2 pickups closest to the bridge in series (like a pseudo-humbucker), position 2 is just the middle pickup which is very straty sounding but, a bit fatter because of the position, position 3 is middle and neck in parallel (very tele middle sounding), position 4 is all three pickups in parallel (this sounds is really nice on cleans IMO and is something I also had on a Kiesel bolt but, through a mini switch), and position 5 is just neck. They are alnico so not as harsh or aggressive as ceramic pickups. Really has just been an all around amazing piece of gear especially for the studio!

    I have a Casino. The pickups lacked the sparkle and round bottom end I'm used to from P90s. I replaced them with Fralin P90s and it's one of my favorite guitars now.

    Great video and great choice for the winner. It has a unique tone as well as the Handsome Epiphone with the p90. Personally I would have picked the Jackson because my first guitar was Jackson and I regret selling it purely for sentimental reasons. It's a lot of guitar for the money with a beautiful body finish and fretboard.

    You mentioned you have never played one before...lol...
    I bought a Gibson 339 this year. ( smaller 335)
    Great guitar!
    Thanks Robert. Happy New Year.
