What a magical little game this was! I experienced every emotion under the sun while playing this, and then felt all those same emotions again while watching the playthrough back. I’d love to hear what everyone else felt the first time they played! Also, I should’ve put a “weee!” counter in the video lmao. I was really feeling the flying and sliding mechanics apparently.
Journey became my all-time favourite gaming "experience" from first play almost 8 yrs ago. And I doubt that will ever change due to the emotional impact it has had on me from the very start to this very day. I truly feel the interaction with other random players has taught me much about patience and understanding while reminding me we are all alone yet connected in this world. It's more than a "game" to me, it is and was a sort of spiritual enlightenment that I didn't know I needed until I experienced it for myself. So happy you felt a connection with what the devs sought to give players.
This is a tough game to stream. The ending hits everyone differently. Thanks for sharing your experience. The ending gets me misty-eyed even when I watch someone else go through it.
I've been gaming for 30 years and this experience has stuck with me ever since i played it 10 years ago and is my second favorite game of all time. Glad you enjoyed it 🙂
my favourite game of all time. it raises more questions than answers about the state of video games. we complain about overly linear design, but this game is linear. this game is so perfectly crafted. a few examples of how well this game is made. when bathed in light at the end the music has a suble filter on it that goes away when you break out flying. your character is the cello and when your playing and another player appears they are represented in the soundtrack by the viola . the game tricks you into chasing down your partner by turning the volume of the viola up and down in the mix. meaning the soundtrack is more lively when a friend is nearby. i just found this channel i really hope youve played shadow of the colossus!!
I love linear games! Sometimes I don't want to spend hundreds of hours of my life exploring an open world. Also I really wish I had found a friend during my playthrough so I could experience all of these beautiful features! And nope, never played Shadow of Colossus, but it looks interesting! I'll add it to my list.
I notice when I watch playthrough, and even when thinking back to my own playthrough, the emotions truly don't begin to flow until you see "Thank you for playing Journey". It has caused me to muse on that a lot after seeing you react to it as well. I think at the end of the game there's this realization that it was important to the people who created this art for you to experience it. As incredible as it is what they achieved, they thank us - for taking the ride with us. I just felt such a deep sense of gratitude in that moment for the people willing to build that ride. Also, the song that plays at the end is titled "I Was Born For This" and trecounts famous Heroes Journeys sung in the native language of the original story. The title, refers to the story of Joan of Arc, who when being executed for religious faith, famously said "Do not pity me, for I was born for this". Everything about this game is powerful.
You can definitely feel how much thought and love was put into this game! Also, looking back I didn’t realize how much I didn’t want the game to end until that moment..seeing the thank you made me realize it was actually over. Plus the way the music starts to pick up around there…ugh a masterpiece.
So happy to see another person playing this game for the first time! Fully enjoyed your playthrough. I also recommend playing it again with a companion as it completely changes the experience! Many times if you pair up with someone else that has already played a few times they will help guide you through the game to find all the glowing bits! This will unlock a special cloak for you to wear. Also, the more you play the game, the more detailed your cloak becomes which also helps show you how experienced your traveling companions are. Enjoy your next playthrough!
A special cloak?! I'm even more sold than I already was. I definitely want to play again sometime soon. I'm sad I didn't run into anyone else during my first playthrough.
@@cloudsi I'm torn on first play and co-op. In some ways solo first time allows you to absorb the intent of the game more, allows you to explore more. Second play with a companion is a different experience, can be great, can be frustrating just like in life. But the ending impact is even greater after sharing the experience together. I'm not sure what platform you played on, but if you want to experience co-op, do not play on the Epic store as the servers don't allow player connections. Hope you do play again and get to experience everything TGC intended you have.
@@silversong4VR the intent of the game is sharing a magical experience with a complete stranger. Even if the stranger is too pushy, shows you all the secrets or just leaves you alone that still is your Journey with them. The game was never meant to be played solo in the first place, Sony just said they will not fund the game without singleplayer mode so TGC had to change the plan. It works and is great singleplayer game with enough meaning, but you definitely lose the magic of Journey and that not the intended way of playing it.
1:05:12 YESSSS!!!!! Half way through the game but I'm so glad you figured it out. The scarf's purpose is to give you the power of jumping and flying. The longer your scarf gets (by collecting as many of those glowing glyphs/symbols as possible) the further you can fly by holding down the jump button. Those symbols that show up on your scarf are what give you the ability to jump/fly. If you notice, as you jump the symbols on your scarf get used up and eventually go away. That's why you can't jump when they're not there (when your scarf is only red with no symboles appearing on it). Touching the other creatures in the game (the flying things that look like little pieces of cloth, the larger ones that look like ribbons sticking out of the ground, and flying cloth... animals... birds... things? I don't know what they are, but I like them) is what replenishes the symbols on your scarf and gives you more jumping/flying power. Also, those small triangular statues at the end of each level (the ones you sit down in front of) tell you how many of those glowing glyphs were in that level. They also tell you how many you missed. If you look at the bottom of the triangular statues, there will be either 3 or 4 symbols (depending on how many there were in that level). They will either be glowing if you found them or dark if you missed them. That's why at the end of the levels sometimes only 1 or 2 of them would be lit up.
Just finished it. That was incredible. Thanks for deciding to play it and I'm glad you enjoyed it so much. It impacted me a lot, as well. 😊 A few facts about Journey: - It was originally a PS3 exclusive and was later re-released on PS4 then ported to Steam. - It's one of the highest selling indie games in history and held the record for most downloaded indie game of all time for years after it's release. - It received universal acclaim and won more than 20 Game of the Year awards from different gaming publications. - It's soundtrack (by Austin Wintory) is the only video game soundtrack to ever be nominated for a Grammy Award. @@cloudsi I did! When it started I thought it was going to be a sequel to Journey. The visual style is very similar. So when I found out it wasn't, I was kinda bummed out. It has the same art director as Journey but is not being made by ThatGameCompany (who made Journey). It's being made by Giant Squid who made the games Abzu and The Pathless. Neither of those games hold a candle to Journey, unfortunately, but I will say that they're not bad and worth looking into. I'm really hoping Sword of the Sea ends up being good, though. I really enjoy the shorter indie games that have strong emotional pulls. They make for great palette cleansers when you want a quick break from those long games. P.S. If you're ever in the mood to try out another shorter indie game, that will really impact you by just how good it is, play Firewatch. It's exceptional. It has a mature/deep story, is fully based in reality, takes place in a beautiful state park and... well, I don't want to give too much away since it's a great one to go in not knowing what you're getting into. It takes about 4 hours to beat, on average. (Maybe 4-1/2 if you take your time.) It's 100% worth your time and will really impress you with it's characters and narrative.
Ok so i'll try to "answer" some of the questions you were asking, not about the game itself because as you said it's free to everyone's interpretation, and I have no "knowledge" to spare about it ^^" BUT about games like Journey that you may like for sure, and i would definitly watch you play this : GRIS. Even though it's my fav game i'm not recommending it for that, it's really close on what you can experience from Journey emotionally speaking, + it's pretty short as well (3 hours MAX). But if you play this, i would just say one thing that will lead to a second answer of a second question you asked : what was the meaning of this game (JOURNEY) for me personally : i would say that you could put a lot of symbolism on it. For me, Journey was the story of someone who was lost in his life, due to some (psychologic) problems or trauma/events that happened (hard topic but maybe the death of a parent/family member, or lighter, a tough breakup with a loved one). Desert symbolising being lost, and all of your ribbon "friends" met along the way symbolising what helps you getting through it in term of "things" and habits. The great tall white figures being the people that help you getting through it, being by your side when you need it. But what is very comforting me in this vision is what's happening to your character and the very abstract topic of the game : getting to the top of the mountain is VERY symbolic and abstract, and usually symbolises a goal to achieve. In JOURNEY, the mountain's top has a bright light, so it seems very positive. And when you get to it, you seem to "ascend", so to get out of the state you were before that was less "good" than the state you are in after ascending (again, symbolism). And what is happening all along to our character represents, for me, all the struggles you have to go through. The fact that the "good" states (when you start having a long scarf, feeling free in a very sunny area) alternates and contrasts a lot with the "bad" states (when you first drop in the dark area and you first meet the mecha-dragons and even more obviously when you struggle in the snow area) is very representative of how you FEEL when you 're struggling internally after a loss or a tough breakup. To summarize, the character you are playing is your own inner YOU, your little inner yourself, who has to fight against life and his way through it all to get you out and going in life. And all of it to say : if you play GRIS, i will DEFINITLY watch it, AND i would advise you to have this type of thoughts in mind when playing it. It's also very abstract, and it could talk to you :) (also in JOURNEY meeting a random player is even better, it symbolises the people that you could meet on the way of life, unexpectingly, but who could become very important for you and help you getting better). If you red it all, i'm honored, and i hope to see you play GRIS some time in the future :3 Enjoyed your JOURNEY a lot !!
I absolutely LOVE your interpretation of Journey! It all makes so much sense. I do wish I had met another player during my playthrough. I feel like maybe the story would have made a bit more sense to me if I had. And GRIS is on my list of games I want to play on the channel!! I've wanted to play that one for a while :)
Can't wait to watch it ! :D As i said GRIS's story can be freely interpreted, but i'll just say that there will be an easter egg hidden somewhere revealing the "real" story (i personally didn't find it when i played through and it was almost for the best so i could find my own meanings of it). Won't say what it is ofc, just saying in case after you'd be done playing you would like to look for it :) Really can't wait ! 🙏
The game, imo, becomes clear as an experience you can only achieve by playing again and helping others. Those you met were helping you, and consequently understand the lesson, and the much deeper story. You've only played half the game.

Well, that means it would be a perfect candidate for playing through again, at some point. Playing with someone else really is a whole nother experience and is completely worth it. It gives you strong feelings of connection, friendship and companionism. Plus, if there are places she missed she could find them in a subsequent playthrough. That's what I did. Played through it blind, then a second time reading a guide to find all the cool things I missed. I think I must've beaten it like 5 or 6 times, over the years, though. It really does add a lot to play with a companion but it's cool to get both experiences.

A few facts about Journey:
- It was originally a PS3 exclusive and
was later re-released on PS4 then
ported to Steam.
- It's one of the highest selling indie
games in history and held the record
for most downloaded indie game of
all time for years after it's release.
- It received universal acclaim and won
more than 20 Game of the Year
awards from different gaming
publications.
- It's soundtrack (by Austin Wintory) is
the only video game soundtrack to
ever be nominated for a Grammy
Award. It was nominated for best
soundtrack and was up against the
best feature films of that year. That's
an insanely high honor for a video
game. Quite literally, unheard of. It's
soundtrack is also widely regarded
as one of the best (possibly _the_
best) ever created for a video game.
- The developers who created Journey
(ThatGameCompany) put so much
time and effort into it that they almost
bankrupted the company. Had the
game not been as successful as it
was, they would've had to dissolve the
company.
P.S. I implore you to play through this game one more time. Perhaps later in year around the holiday season or something (since you just played it). Obviously you don't have to, but hear me out.
My reasoning:
- Although you can play through the
game by yourself, as you just have, it
was actually designed by the creators
to be played with a companion. While

with a companion adds so much to
the experience that it's really
something you need to try. (If it
weren't much different I'd say you're
good, but it really does add so much
to the game.)
- There is a decently long list of things
you missed which also makes a
strong case for a replay. There are
lots of great strategy guides online
that will straightforwardly tell you
where everything to find in the game is
located.
- On a second playthrough you'd most
likely be able to piece together the
story to a fuller extent. A lot of those
pictures you kept finding along the
way (the ones you had to light up and
make appear) were depicting the
history of that world and it's
inhabitants. There were a bunch that
you missed which would really help
to explain things.
- Lastly, now that you know you have
the ability to jump and fly (when ever
you have symbols on your scarf) you'll
get through the game a good amount
faster. When jumping and flying
around the different levels, you move
considerably faster than just running
along the ground. (Typical time for a
first playthrough being 1-1/2 hours
with replays being even less. So even
for an indie game it's very short and
easy to get through in a single
sitting.)
Thanks again for playing this one. It does things no other games I've played have been able to pull off. It feels as if it's reaching in and touching an ancient part of your soul in a very serene and mystical way.

( fab moment) .Can i recommend What remains of Edith finch, and before your eyes clip here time stamped ua-cam.com/video/zh0joML1hf4/v-deo.html
I saw that it was possible after I already played and I am pretty sad i didn't get to experience it!
Also I already have Edith Finch on the channel! Another absolute masterpiece of a game
@@cloudsi forgive i am a clown , i had a look through and did not see it , and then realised i had watched your play through of edith in the past. That's why i subscribed . lol
@@bestistmate Hahah that's pretty funny
Well, that means it would be a perfect candidate for playing through again, at some point. Playing with someone else really is a whole nother experience and is completely worth it.
It gives you strong feelings of connection, friendship and companionism. Plus, if there are places she missed she could find them in a subsequent playthrough.
That's what I did. Played through it blind, then a second time reading a guide to find all the cool things I missed. I think I must've beaten it like 5 or 6 times, over the years, though. It really does add a lot to play with a companion but it's cool to get both experiences.
@@cloudsi I look forward to my Before your eyes notification 😂lol
