My favourite Van Halen song. I remember when the first album came out in 1978. Flipped out over it. Friday nights cruising with this on 8 track blaring out of the car as loud as possible without distorting the killer sound. Man I miss those times! 🤟🤟
Yeah, I can understand just coming into Van Halen and not knowing the bass player, but when the drummer is the brother of the GOAT...LOL, come on Amber. I understand though. We've known this stuff for a lifetime. You guys are trying to remember so much stuff that we just take for granted. You're doing pretty well. I mean, I can remember when Amber didn't like this kind of music
@@allenwhitmer8192 When they were just getting into music, Alex played guitar and Eddie played drums. Neither of them felt it was the right fit for them, so they gave swapping a go and... Well you know.
This was their 1st album. Eddie Van Halen introduced himself by nuking the entire landscape of guitar playing. There is a fat and distinct line of before and after. He is one of the most influential guitar players of all time, so the emulation of his sound and technique was very wide spread. It's almost a half a century later and you can still hear it with the new generation of guitar players. The impact Eddie Van Halen on rock can't be understated. He was doing things no one had even considered. Due to his success, all rock bands of the time and after were influenced to one degree or another.
My first VH concert in 1981, they closed the show with this song (with the whole crowd shouting "HEY HEY HEY!!"). Couldn't hear normally again for three days
Heard this at a live concert back in the 70's when they were just starting to tour. Blew all 30,000 of us away. They rocked it right out of the gate and never let up.
My first concert, at 15 years old, was Van Halen's first tour!! They opened up for Black Sabbath. Ozzy's last tour, with Sabbath, before going solo! Sorry Ozzy, Geezer, Burt and Tony... Y'all got your asses kicked that night....LOL 🤣🔥💥🖤
Saw them Live In 1980. It was the loudest concert I've ever been to and I've been to a lot (62 yrs old) Diamond Dave danced around with his bare ass hanging out a pair of fringed chaps , shirtless, doing spinning kicks 8ft in the air. Eddie Slamming hard on the Kramer, Cig in his mouth, or the guitar string end on the neck. Mike and Alex keeping the beat down. It was glorious.
Yup, that sounds about right! I saw them in 1979 or 80(?) First concert and had 2nd row tickets. I was 15 and Dave was in spandex. Gulp. The whole arena shouting and stomping out the Hey Hey Hey!! It still stands out in my memory as one of the best.
Saw them and their skyscraper of speakers on stage. They set one on fire about 3/4 of the way up and a stage hand had to climb those things while they were jamming away with a fire extinguisher to put the fire out.
@@livingdeadgirl1542 Chatt Tn. Dave also told some dirty jokes between songs and he actually played a little acoustic guitar on a harmonic version of the old Roy Rogers tune "Happy Trails"
"Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" rocks! Released in 1978, this song launched a thousand garage bands and more without a doubt. I know because I was in one of them!
Michael Anthony on bass and Alex van Halen on drums.both so ridiculously underrated for the true gods of rock they are.and RIP to the one,the only, the legend, often imitated but never duplicated, the GOAT.Eddie van halen.
I love van Halen with David Lee Roth. I saw this tour back in the day. Awesome band! David was such a presence on stage. Of course, Eddie on lead guitar, Alex on drums, and Michael Anthony on bass. They were fantastic in concert!
The entire debut Van Halen album is an absolute killer. Amazing production by Ted Templeman. I remember this blasting out of every room in my dorm when I was a college freshman.
Dave's vocal bridge between the choruses really speaks to me. He says he's been to the edge and stood and looked down, and lost a lot of friends there. I swear, that's me. A lot of my friends have been to the edge, and just couldn't stop and kept going right over it. I've managed to turn back every time I've been there, but let me tell you there's times I never knew how close I came to following my friends.
Man back in the day this album was so RAW. I remember the first time I heard it, goosebumps, adrenaline, tuned out everything but the music, and such a heightened awareness you could barely breathe. Can't begin to tell you what a nuke this was when it came on the scene. Everyone's mind was blown. No Soft Rock Sunday. You need to do it.
I relate SO much to that feeling! I was an AM radio kid & in fact, I was walking to the community pool with my little boombox & heard VH for the first time and literally had to stop in my tracks .... what is this MAGICAL MUSICAL BEAUTY coming out of my box?😂 (yeah, I caught it and ran with the joke, sorry!) But that day changed me BIG TIME! Love at first listen & the day disco died for me lol
Oh ya Eddie goes crazy in this one J. But his sound is UNMATCHED. Eddie brought a new sound to the electric guitar. This whole album ROCKS. Have to shout out to the beautiful #AMBERSWAY. Still trying to make that go viral. Just because you KNOW it’s a good song when you ROCK OUT. J playing the Drums and your Head banging groove gives me goose bumps. Just cuz you love this music! This album was released the year before my freshman year of highschool. You bet your ass this song and the rest of the tracks were blared regularly through my 100 watt/channel Pioneer Super tuner III and Pioneer 6x9 three-ways with regularity when I finally got my car and driver's license.
This eponymous first album of theirs became such a staple in the fabric of Our Lives for me starting in junior high. Every song on it is fire. But the whole album in a way was something that you heard all these songs on the radio constantly and if you went to the lake you know it would be getting played the whole album. And so of course almost all of us owned it. I finally got a chance to see them in the late seventies when they're second album came out and it was a fantastic show. I just can't say enough about how woven into the fabric of our life they were for a lot of us anyway.
I was fortunate enough to see Van Halen AND Boston together in the summer of 1979 in Raleigh, N.C. in an outdoor stadium. There were 50,000 people singing along to this..."HEY, HEY, HEY"!
I saw Van Halen open for The Doobie Brothers around '76. I had heard of VH but didn't know anything about them or their music, I was there to see The Doobie Brothers as were most the people there. Well needless to say VH blew me away! What a pleasant surprise!
October 19th, 1982. Spectrum Philadelphia, Pa. Eddie had broken his hand a few days before and VH had to cancel some shows in Jersey but thankfully the tour had resumed that night and me and my bud from school had tickets and caught the train to see the show, my first legit concert, I was barely 15 years old. First thing I saw was Eddie, Mike, and Alex on stage and they started playing the opening riff of Running With The Devil. I was so focused on Eddie's cast and how he was playing I forgot about Dave and then wondered "where the hell was Dave?" Next thing I know a spotlight shines on him standing on a platform or amp or something, looked like it was fifty feet tall for all I knew (obviously not) and he jumps and does a mid-air split, lands perfectly and rolls right in to the song without missing a beat. Crowd went nuts. About halfway through the show they're jammin' to Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love, I'm standing against the railing on the second level and someone smacks my ass. I turn around and see this super cute chick smiling at me. Then she came in real close nuzzled up against my neck, bit my earlobe and made this "grrrrrrr" sound that sent a shockwave through me that I will never forget. Then she backed away, yelled "whooooooo" and danced out of my life. Great show, great memories.
had tix to that show , but was in the Navy and ship left port early . gave them to a buddy's wife and 3 of her friends . was told it was a hell of a show !
Back in October 1982, I saw the original VH lineup at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse (my hometown.) They were beyond amazing. What's more, they plugged into the dome's ginormous sound system. Imagine EVH's guitar and Diamond Dave's vocals being pumped through a wall of 40-foot tall speaker towers! My ears rang for a full day after the concert was over, but at 18 at the time, it was totally worth it! So glad you're enjoying one of my all-time fav bands! And rest in peace Eddie!
One of the best songs from one of the best debut albums ever. This album is fire start to finish. One thing from it you still need to hear is the original Eruption, it was a lead in to this track and the effect was devastating. Also from it, try the Atomic Punk, another killer song. If heard already, try Fire instead, an apt name for this revolutionary album. Eddie rules, he has a place in my guitar gods gallery. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶
Eruption was the lead into you really got med. Running with the Devil, Eruption, You really Got Me. Although, I never heard the 8track and can only speak of LP, Cassette and CD
5:49 People don't realize, Michael was a beast. Killer bass and vocals that was the foundation of Van Halen. I saw them when this album came out. Black Sabbath 10th anniversary tour. What a show, Top 10 for sure.
Every time I hear this song I get a feeling of nostalgia. I was a pro musician for 18 years and a vast majority of my bands covered this song. I have played on bass and on drums and I even sang lead a few times. I can cover DLR even now. Man... that yearning does not ever leave you.
I was 16 in 1978 and my older brother found this 8-track tape on the side of the road, and he said "Check out this guitar player." The tape was like new, just laying on the shoulder. We had never heard of Van Halen before, neither had any of our friends at that time. "Eruption" -WOW. We wore that tape out....
This was my sophomore year go to album! I had been hearing them play this content for a couple of years at backyard parties and was so happy for them to see it finally come out in an album. Eruption was truly epic and still about the best guitar solo ever but this song was my favorite on the album.
What was there in Rock music in 1978? You had Rock'n'Roll, you had classic Rock, you had Hard Rock, you had Punk Rock, you had Prog Rock, you had Glam Rock, you had Blues Rock (just to mention the main variants, forgive me if I forgot any) and then came Van Halen, that like an alien spaceship landed in the Rock music scene and changed it forever. 🙂
This was an album that took the rock world by storm in the late '70s. You could hear these songs on the radio constantly for years and years and years. You know what I would suggest? Look up a playlist of their self-titled first album. And then compare those titles of the songs with things you see in the comments and then just start to pick songs. You won't be disappointed. You really will not be disappointed. Every song on this album is fire. I remember that my younger sister loved Janie's Crying off of this album. And I like every song on this album very deeply. But I would say, there is a very interesting and beautiful song, it's almost a ballad and it captures a slower emotional content than you hear from them very often, and yet it's still rocks. And while I did hear it on the radio a fair amount, it's not one that most people think of as their first song when they think of the album. But it's called Little Dreamer. It's absolutely beautiful.
Amber & Jordan, 1st 🥇 of all, Rip 🪦 To The Greatest Guitar 🎸 Player Ever in My opinion, Mr. Eddie Van Halen. This cat 🐱 is badd ass n I'll tell my greatest 👍 rock 🪨 n roll 🎶 band ever. My cousin, Frank loaned me his tape of the first VH album and when I heard this song, I had to let him know he wasn't getting it back. 😂 Friday should have been his 60th birthday. Love you, Primo!
Great reaction guys.. it's so cool that you recognize the best parts like those harmonic sweeps Eddie does with the flanger effect at 4:28. Love your reactions..what's really awesome as I was rocking this album over 40 years ago and here you guys are today in 2022 rocking it
This song, above all other Van Halen songs, was the best song to start off a night of partying, putting me in the best of moods. That riff intro just sets the stage. Mandatory to be played at Volume 10!
First, congrats on win! Thanks for sharing this and giving your take on Van Halen. No denying, this band was special and their music doesn’t disappoint. Amazing sound. Thanks again, you guys are very welcoming and generous. Best to you both.
Van Halen cut their chops playing house parties in south California, and were so good that cars would be parked in the streets for several blocks around due to all the people who attended.
I still remember listening to this album straight through for the first time right after it was released. We proceeded to play it again and again, through the night.
OMG love the reactions and that you are real - true reactions. Not much left in life that is a real reaction. I look forward each day for real- one thing - the older reactions have more volume- lately is is hard to rock cause the volume on the channel is too low. Preeesh turning it up. If it it’s too loud your too old! Haha
Such a Classic ! This is Van Flippin Halen ! Heh since u guys have female fridays ! What about Hard Rock Sundays ?? U can have that ! How bout it Keep banging out that great music and awesome movie reactions ! 😊
Got married to a country girl in Korea. When we came to the US, this was her first concert. We saw them in the Summit, where the Rockets used to play. We sat at the far end of the venue and when the bass started kicking it, my pants legs fluttered from the sound pressure waves.
Van Halen's second album, Women and Children First, rocks just as hard as their first. I suggest you react to Take Your Whiskey Home from that album. You will love the beat.
Their second album is Van Halen II. Somebody Get Me A Doctor and Beautiful Girls are the standout tracks on it. Women And Children First is their third album and includes The Cradle Will Rock. Unchained is the track on fourth album Fair Warning, that will melt your face.
By far my favorite song on the album. Van Halen's first album that came out in 1978 (simply called Van Halen) is a milestone in the evolution of Hard Rock.. All the songs are fantastic and it has the first mainstream example of double tapping in the legendary instrumental: Eruption. A must have for any rock fan. This song, Ain't talking 'bout love, has such an AWESOME riff and the guitar sounds so futuristic. Even in hundreds years from now this song will sound fresh as if it has just been recorded.
Gotta listen to Marvin Gay " I want to come home for Christmas". It was written for the soldiers that were fighting in Vietnam in the 60's and 70's. Classic
Saw Van Halen in 1979 early, they were warming up Black Sabbath and of course blew them away!! I was a big Black Sabbath fan always but, something super great about Van Halen in the late seventies my next great favorite!!!
So glad that I got the opportunity to see and experience vanhalen live in concert in 1978 on their opening tour When everyone was saying back then WHO THE F**K Is VANHALEN 🤔🤣 and the rest is now rock history 🤟
I remember a kid in 7th grade in late 1978 and early 1979 that would come into English and math class blasting this whole album on his boom box. Incredible times!
My buddy interviewed Van Halen's former tour manager, Monk a couple of years ago for his book. Monk worked for Van Halen from the release of this record up to the release of "1984" (he also worked the 1978 Sex Pistols US tour). He said they treated bassist Michael Anthony very badly. The background vocals are Michael Anthony, BTW. I think producer Ted Templeman should get a lot of credit for the sound of this record. I really like his production work and the interesting sound of Van Halen records from their early days.
In the early 80s I played bass in a garage band. We did a lot of covers as well as some original material but the best crowd response we ever got anywhere was when we played a high school band battle in another state and played this song. They were literally dancing in the aisles. It was awesome. This is easily my favorite Van Halen song in no small part to that memory but also because it just really rocks!
Wife here...,A few years ago for my birthday my Husband took me to see Kip Winger for my Birthday..(Kip was a HUGE Glam Metal star when I was in high school)..He does a cover of this song...As he of coarse is a huge Van Halen Fan..!!!.And no lie guys..KIP HANDED ME THE MIC TO SING WITH HIM. I WILL NEVER FORGET IT!!!🤘👍🤘💞
As a Raiders fan, thanks for that victory. Not that we have much chance, but always nice to see the Chiefs get knocked. Kinda pull for you guys anyway here in KY. Another solid reaction. Definitely one of the premier VH tunes.
This was the first time for a lot of us hearing Van Halen. We had no idea how much better they are doing n concert. Great sound so cool. And the Cradle Will Rock, you might like. Thanks for the smile.
That 1st Van Halen album was so influential for me. I couldn't get enough of it. Then I got to see them live, first in Shreveport then a few months later at the '79 Texxas Jam. Imagine mid-afternoon, 120⁰ on the field of the Cotton Bowl, people packed shoulder to shoulder so tight that you could barely move, and then Van Halen hits the stage and you're jolted full of energy! 80,000 fists in the air pumping to "Hey Hey Hey". Good times! Saw VH many times after that, including their last North American performance with DLR at the helm in Dallas at Reunion Arena, but that Texxas Jam show was unforgettable.

We had never heard of Van Halen before, neither had any of our friends at that time. "Eruption" -WOW. We wore that tape out....
Bought this when it came out in 78. Cruising with this blaring out the car. My favourite track too. Rock on man.🤟🤟
Cool story.
Yeah! I LOVE this song. That nasty guitar riff!!! BANGerrrrrr!!
This is my all-time favorite Van Halen song, my number one.
Jay & Amber, you'll love their "You Really Got Me" !!! (Kinks cover)
I went to Black Sabbath concert in 1978, but Van Halen opened. They were amazing and Sabbath was so-so...I was stoked 🙌
Late 70's to early 80's, they were GODS. Their concerts were huge parties.
David Lee Roth was so energetic! always putting in work to entertain the people!
Amber & Jordan, 1st 🥇 of all, Rip 🪦 To The Greatest Guitar 🎸 Player Ever in My opinion, Mr. Eddie Van Halen. This cat 🐱 is badd ass n I'll tell my greatest 👍 rock 🪨 n roll 🎶 band ever. David Lee Roth in Vocals 🎤,Eddie on the Guitar 🎸,Michael Anthony on the Bass Guitar 🎸 n Alev Vanb Halen on the Drums 🥁. These cats 🐈 r sick 😷 n their music 🎶 rocks 🪨 all night long. God Bless The Van Halen Fam 🙏.
My cousin, Frank loaned me his tape of the first VH album and when I heard this song,
I had to let him know he wasn't getting it back. 😂
Friday should have been his 60th birthday. Love you, Primo!
Great reaction guys.. it's so cool that you recognize the best parts like those harmonic sweeps Eddie does with the flanger effect at 4:28. Love your reactions..what's really awesome as I was rocking this album over 40 years ago and here you guys are today in 2022 rocking it
HEY HEY HEY...
Y'all rockin out hard today!! 🤩
Nothing like some good ole toe tapping rock and roll!! 🥳❤👏🏽
This song, above all other Van Halen songs, was the best song to start off a night of partying, putting me in the best of moods. That riff intro just sets the stage. Mandatory to be played at Volume 10!
turn it up to 11
@@gregdefoe6567 Been there, done that too! 🍺
I'm Your Ice Cream Man just popped in my head.
Favorite line in this one.....
You know you're semi good lookin....
This whole album defines the entire 80s pop, rock and hard rock, AND IS FROM 1978!!!
They set the trend. Other bands could only imitate - Ed & the boys were NEVER duplicated. Probably never will be.
Maybe a few singles but no rock album that I heard from the 80's came close to this.
First, congrats on win! Thanks for sharing this and giving your take on Van Halen. No denying, this band was special and their music doesn’t disappoint. Amazing sound. Thanks again, you guys are very welcoming and generous. Best to you both.
Your Bengals did indeed win! You're covering a song from one of the greatest debut albums in history! Love you guys!
Van Halen cut their chops playing house parties in south California, and were so good that cars would be parked in the streets for several blocks around due to all the people who attended.
Best album ever
I still remember listening to this album straight through for the first time right after it was released. We proceeded to play it again and again, through the night.
OMG love the reactions and that you are real - true reactions. Not much left in life that is a real reaction. I look forward each day for real- one thing - the older reactions have more volume- lately is is hard to rock cause the volume on the channel is too low. Preeesh turning it up. If it it’s too loud your too old! Haha
Trying to figure out the volume settings because we’ve had problems with audio lately. We will turn it up! Rock on! 🤘🏽
If I were to start my own all star orchestra, Eddie has always been my first choice for lead guitar.
One of my favorite Van Halen songs ever.
Such a Classic ! This is Van Flippin Halen ! Heh since u guys have female fridays ! What about Hard Rock Sundays ?? U can have that ! How bout it Keep banging out that great music and awesome movie reactions ! 😊
One of the greatest heavyrock albums ever
Don't care what anybody says, when Diamond Dave left the Band took a Big drop in talent. David brought Attitude, Energy, and raw Sexuality.
Great suggestion!
Their second album is Van Halen II. Somebody Get Me A Doctor and Beautiful Girls are the standout tracks on it. Women And Children First is their third album and includes The Cradle Will Rock. Unchained is the track on fourth album Fair Warning, that will melt your face.
@@derekjhpeterson3882 Thanks for the correction. My mind messed me up 🧠. That happens when you get old!
If you love amazing guitar work, check out their song "Atomic Punk". It's fire 🎸🔥
Gotta listen to Marvin Gay " I want to come home for Christmas". It was written for the soldiers that were fighting in Vietnam in the 60's and 70's. Classic
Oh, to be a 13 year old kid when this was released was special. To go back and do it again-and again-and again...Lol
Gamechanger when it came out in 78, there was nothing like it at the time. It was the transition to glam/hair bands..
Saw Van Halen in 1979 early, they were warming up Black Sabbath and of course blew them away!! I was a big Black Sabbath fan always but, something super great about Van Halen in the late seventies my next great favorite!!!
Debut album, blues, rock, pop it had everything with production & attitude. Awesome 😎
A perfect rock song. Every member shines. The vocals. The drums. The bass. The guitar. The lyrics. The production.🤘😎🔥
Van Halen band had a sound and style all of thier own. I love them just as much as I did at the beginning.
@𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩𝙨𝘼𝙥𝙥 𝙢𝙚+𝟏𝟖𝟕𝟐𝟐𝟒𝟒𝟐𝟎𝟓𝟎 Not sure why I got this message. I responded to your reaction videos. You're an amazing couple in many ways.
So glad that I got the opportunity to see and experience vanhalen live in concert in 1978 on their opening tour
When everyone was saying back then
WHO THE F**K Is VANHALEN 🤔🤣
and the rest is now rock history 🤟
One of the best Van Halen albums, especially being their first. All songs on the album are just fantastic, no duds.
Michael Anthony on bass, and those great backing vocals.
Thank you for doing Van Halen long live the king!!!
Definitely one of the premier VH tunes.
a song off their 1st album. It was an incredible time to be alive in high school.
Definitely! Good times… chilling in the arcade playing Van Halen… music was fun and life was awesome…
No soft stuff Sunday! I’m there for it! 😁🤣
One of their best.
