It even has filler content (like 2 hours) + your mostly just walking forward in the game...
Glorified UE5 tech demo
Hey at least we know what ur5 is capable of. Phantom blade any body. Phantom blade looks 🔥
Development was 1 hr of gameplay per year
Including 2hrs of cinematic scenes
This generation will be hardly remembered for its achievements. If anything else, it will be the generation of the lay-offs, broken promises and underwhelming performances.
I'll never buy a console on its first half of the generation cycle, ever.
Tbf, Playstation and Nintendo games have released amazing games during this generation. Xbox is the one who has fumbled the bag. This generation of console has great games like Tears of the Kingdom, Elden Ring, GoW Ragnarok, Spider Man 2, FF16, FF7 Rebirth, Bayonetta 3, Stellar Blade, ect..
@@dongoyo584What you mean PlayStation? The only games PlayStation made was god of war and Spiderman. Ff16, rebirth, Elden ring are all made by other studios.
Nintendo is the only console manufacturer that has created "many" great games this generation.
I will admit, this generation there are many great games, but PlayStation has only contributed a little. And Xbox has been a joke in terms of exclusives
I mean, I only bought a PS5 because I wanted to play cyberpunk 2077. Not because of the PS5 exclusives, though I did enjoy spiderman 2

I think paying for gamepass to play this game is not a bad idea. This game is incredible when it comes graphics and audio design but lack of gameplay is really annoying even the puzzles are dumb and boring
Got the game after Dr Disrespects review and play thru everything he said was ON POINT.
This is a very cinematic game-on that note INCREDIBLE, absolutely incredible visuals and audio. Sure the fighting could use more variations, and the puzzles were pretty simple. it was a breath of fresh air to play a linear cinematic game with a different narrative that incorporates psychological horror.
All in all the game is a love story, and I guess that's just not "cool" enough in this day and age in a gaming arena of Deathmatches, Battle Royales mixed with massive cheating.
You must of watched a totally different stream than i did bc that is NOT what he expressed. In fact, he even stopped playing before he finished (6 hour game btw) bc he was bored.
Degree with the comment.
I really love the game, and it feels like some fresh air with the crapy average open worñd game every company puts on the market.

Hellblade 2 is a AA, never a AAA game. The studio only has 80 staff. Comparing to Naughty dog is laughable as they have 840 staff to work on games. The fact that they achieved better graphics than any Naughty dog game and was named a target for fidelity by Neil Druckmann says a lot about your perception.
Well, close to 6 years of development and the best graphics in a video game EVER.
Maybe not a Halo or the last of us triple AAA, but certainly not a double AA.

Maybe they shouldn't price their games like a AAA game and then maybe it wouldn't be judged like a AAA game 😂😂😂
@@patchesgaming9139 AAA are tag 80€ (in Europe), this game was 50€, so, far from a AAA game. Indies here are between 30/40€, so, the price is closer to a indie game than a AAA.
On another note though, if you already have gamepass I feel like it’s absolutely worth playing through. I never played the first game and had zero expectations and honestly really enjoyed it

Thank you! I agree!
The first game is just as long sometimes I feel like these criticisms shouldn't be applied to EVERY video game. This is a game that tells the story it needs to tell. Its absolutely just as good as the first

4. It could actually be worse than the 1st game, even if the graphics are amazing.
I watched a full playthrough that took 5hrs 32 minutes & that included navigating menus, playing a little in photo mode, cutscenes, & an over an hour long segment of Senua lighting torches in a cave while avoiding the darkness.
A 5hr long game & people still had complaints about pacing issues.
HB2 has about 3hrs of actual gameplay, if that, & most of it is walking, with a sprinkle of combat that is nothing but heavily scripted glorified QTE sequence with little player agency
I really like the 1st game, but Luke is right when he says that this game took a step back in nearly every department outside of it being a graphical showpiece.
Diehard Xbox guys like Mr. Matty Plays even said the game was a "boring slog", where he nearly fell asleep. He also criticized the combat & torch lighting sequence.
@@stephenpawkingor maybe it's just not worth the price of $50? It should have been a real game that you can spend countless hours exploring.

For me the story is really a disappointment here, longer don't mean it's better. The 1st game was much better and was actually great.
NT made this game during Covid and the fact that the storyline and graphics is this good says a lot more about the developers
While you can't make a game that pleases everyone, this game runs amazingly well. It stands out as one of the most impressive-looking titles in the gaming industry today, boasting some of the best audio design ever implemented in a video game. Although some people find its short length disappointing, I think it's unfair and childish to judge a game based on its duration alone. Personally, I don't enjoy anything scary, but I can still appreciate this game for those who enjoy horror and narrative-driven experiences, even if it's not my cup of tea.
Forget about the length. The gameplay is very average. Nothing new from the first episode whereas they had so much to improve.

I believe most poeple are missing the point here, talking about gameplay and content and whatnot. We shouldn't look at this as a "game" and more as an "experience". It is basically an interactive movie. I for one am happy with my purchase.
It's categorised as a GAME therefore it gets treated like a game and if that game doesn't offer value for the price then it's bad.
This game is a glorified tech demo
The game is amazing 10/10 i played it on gamepass, it was so good i bought the game to give my support as gamer,,-
It’s a 6/10.

It's very boring.
It wasn't that good, it's certainly not a 10, if it was they would be swimming in money.
It was alright, I didn't mind putting my money up. The problem I had was how far out the pre order was. It's kinda like voting before debates.
It's terrible when they tell you all these prices are based on just how good the game looks instead of what it offers in terms of gameplay. Like if pricing was tied to looks and how much tech was used on it then movies would have to be like 100 bucks to watch them
Its a double A game and both games are the same to me. The only reason its even a thought cause its on Xbox. If it was multi platform like the first one you wouldn't hear a thing about it just like the first one. Plus its not the worse one ive played. This game is a happy medium. Seriously though....who was actually excited for this game.
Alot of people
Tons of people. The first one was such an accurate representation of mental illness and the sound design truly blew my mind.
I'll grab it on discount. I'm not asking for assassin's creed level of gameplay hours but 5 hours for 50 dollars is a joke
I was, beat it, not as good as the first
Bro I was excited till the game just ended on me. I was so ready & I was not trying to spoil but they weren’t advertising it 😭😭
You should definitely play the first one and you'll understand why people are so disappointed. It's a VERY good game with a lot of both commercial and critical success, well worth a playthrough.
I kinda felt like the first helblade was not really enough game for me. Was steering clear of this one even though i was expecting "bigger and better" - wild they think some mocap and high res rock textures are enough justification for $50 USD
Arguably it’s $10 per hour of your time… for a movie not bad. For a game very mad. I think a split in the market could help this
It was an awesome game with a great story if you dont like it dont play it. Its on game pass so i played it for free using a free month card if you like buying stupid skins and playing madden its not for you this is an immersive solo experience and it was well worth it!
Ninja Theory has never made a game that goes beyond 5 hours.
I don’t get all this negativity. Yes, it is short, but it is not unfinished or incomplete. The experience is tailored in this way so it would make sense! You always find something to nag about. Valhala was too long now this is too short. I loved every second of this game. My only mistake was to randomly land on your review before playing the game, which ruined my hype and excitement for the game. Thanks!
How disappointing, like what happened? The first one was amazing.
It's the same really
Its similar to the first but
- easier
- more cutscenes
- shorter
- simpler puzzles
- simplified combat, only 1 on 1
You could say the filler stuff of hellblade one was left behind. But you could also argue hellblade 2 doesnt really do enough proper buildup and just throws you in for the ride, if you want to or not.

Have we passed peak storytelling in video games? There was a golden decade of Naughty Dog, Rocksteady, Rockstar, Bethesda-but it seems like a lot of games lately are failing at telling a gripping, multi-hour story.

Man, the merits and values of this game went right over your head. It isn’t for everyone for sure but to completely write off anything great it does is incredibly ignorant for a “critic”
I dont understand the type of hate other the length of the game. But even then, the first one is shorter than the second one and these complaints were non existent. The graphics are phenomenal, imo the story is great, imo the combat is great. Have not finished the game yet, but there have been some really sick combat sequences. I know people dont know what theyre talking about if they call it a movie and mostly cut scenes. There is actually a lot of gameplay, its just that the gameplay feels like a movie and the developers did a great job making it look like that too. I understand this game isnt for everyone. But theres a difference in not caring about a game because its not ur style, and simply hating on a game. And there is a lot of recycled hate from sources of no validity. Hellbade 2 is a great game in its own right and is pioneer for a true next gen game as well as paving the path for developers that wish to follow in its footsteps, make no mistake.
People that dumb to think this was going to be a big game? Why is everyone expecting open world games with ai generated content. This is a linear game like the first one. For anyone to think it was going to be anything more is just baffling, especially when they are pushing graphics this hard.
The game was like 5 hours and if you take away all the cutscenes and the unfun stuff that doesn't leave a lot of actual content.. The content doesn't justify the price.

@@fabledgames9695bro was mad he couldn't spam
@fabledgames9695 I'm just going to list them so I can copy-paste to this other dude....
The one on one fighting makes the combat feel more tedious, and the takedowns remove any feeling of accomplishment from defeating your opponents. The cinematic transitions, especially when you get hit, make it feel like combat if just there to progress the story and not to be an enjoyable experience. The animation is supposed to make the game feel more realistic, but it just makes it frustrating to play, especially by comparison to the first. Instead of the smooth dodge the first game had, she does this weird stumble like a novice, which almost makes her look like she got hit. The animation is so long there his hesitant delay on when you can return the attack. If you block a heavy attack, she recoils, and it serves as an unprompted dodge. Because the dogde animation time is about the same length as the failed block time, there is no reason to dodge unless to avoid a ranged attack. The animation on both fighters is so slow that there is this disconnect of what I see as an opening and what the game will let me use as an opening. For example, if blocked a light attack, the frames until the next attack feel so wide, it feels like I should be able to attack, but I can't. Because animation is so slow, if they use a light attack, I will be hit. If they use a heavy attack, I will get 1 hit in and need to defend.
Reducing the fights to 1v1 also makes the combat feel more like rock paper scissors as you dont need to be concerned with the environment and placement of enemies. You dont even have to move, as I was just able to press 3 buttons in some combat encounter. The transitions in combat, especially when Senua gets hit, pulls agency from the player. It doesn't feel like you are defeating enemies, it feels like you are filling a meter like in Asura Wrath, only less inpressive to watch. In fact, I have no idea why they didn't add QTEs, like in Asura wrath (and there are subtle ways they could have added it). Because of this, you never feel like your contribution as the player matters, and you are just helping the game narratively move along. In found that I was using focus mode as a method to make combat faster, not to give myself an advantage. Combat is not even hard, it is tedious.
There is no expansion on the combat mechanics. Not only is Senua somehow a worse fighter than she was in the previous game, there are no new mechanics. No new combos can be used to get around an opponents defenses. No armor mechanics would require Senua to attack a certain side of an enemy. No using focusing to a target specific weak points, just spamming attacks. No environmental elements can be used. So it plays worst, has added nothing, and removes player agency.
The game has significantly less combat encounters, which I don't know if that is a good or bad thing. My eyes roll at the thought of more boring combat, but wish I had more to do than walk and solve babies' first puzzles. There are so few combat encounters that about the time you have figure the flow of the slow fighting you woulf have done 75% of all combat in the game. Why could they let us freely attack outside of an arena? Why couldn't they have one or two opponents pop up while exploring?
Also....Thorgestr thrashed Senua in the first chapter, and only lost from over confidence. He fighting was better, you tell because he would actually side step a swing and not stumble. Even though Senua won, it wasn't because she was good at fighting. It was because Thorgestr got cocky.
That's why combat is worse.....

@@Nosh5 the presentation of the fights was made to be more cinematic and less overwhelming. It's fitting considering she was vulnerable and scared the first game and she's more in control of her now, but she can't effortlessly swing her sword around like before
The combat itself is improved by making enemies feel more competent since they can block/dodge now, there's no guard break like before that can just be spammed for free hits essentially, and the animations being slowed are to make you think more about what you press. Parrying is harder as well which it seems like you forgot that even existed at all. You can dodge mid attack, you can't block mid attack. I don't understand why you feel like not being able to simply block any one of their attacks and get a free hit is a bad thing, you got a lot of energy thrown at you while they still have momentum from that energy being expelled. All games with fighting do this, it makes no sense that you shouldn't be needing to recover when you're defensive because that's the whole point of being defensive in the first place

I keep seeing these kinda of videos and it hurts a bit to hear. I understand the whole 50 for a tech demo thing, and tbh i cheered on Starfield when it was thing but realized my mistake.
However, Hellblade 2 is different. I have nearly 30 hrs total on Hellblade 2 because i love it so much. If you really take the time to look under the surface and try to examine its layers, theres so much more to it than its graphics. The story really did speak to me and i think its important for anyone to play through at least once. The characters are all pretty damn well made, and the gameplay is great too. I honestly dont see how hellblade 2 is worse than the first when its actually magnitudes better...
meanwhile i've spent 70 hours on BG3 so far and bought it for £30
One of the best game I've played in a while
so by your logic, assassins creed is worth the 130 price since its going to take a long time to complete?
The COPE is strong in these comments
F all that. I got it on game pass. It’s worth a play thru if you like a good story with decent gameplay.
I'm about 3 hours in and I honestly think it's a masterpiece graphically and the combat feels very gritty kinda like the first last of us
From where you got this 5h? Without rush I got 7,5h.
Go check any random streamer’s play through. All about 5 hours.
The game is incredible. 3 playthroughs❤
It’s a good game not sure what people expected if they played the first one. It’s better in every way. I’m sure if it was on ps5 it would be different.
I mean you can just play it ons game pass 😂
I don´t mind the amount of hours of game content, I mind the fact, I am watching a slightly interactive movie. A cool movie, mind you, great scenery, but there is no real sense of freedom, nor achievement. Ok movie, bad game. My 2 Cents
her exaggerated face expressions are the reason I stay away from this even though I have game pass, sooo darn cringe, just look at her face saying a normal phrase and her face animation...they wanted to show off face animations but her mouth is like 2x as wide as Emilia Clarke...
Every Xbox exclusive gets hyped out of the water and turns out to be average or below…
This gane is not average. It really good for what it wants to tell and protray.
@@amanpradhan02 I can see that. The 5 hour run time kills it for me though. Which isn’t super fair ik
When was the last great blockbuster game? Witcher? RDR2/? Devs are not even trying anymore
I personally disagree. I absolutely loved every second of it. It's not perfect.
Your in the minority buddy
@fabolousjada5070 nope they're not I loved the game as well if people don't want to pay full price than get gamepass and save money
I was very disappointed with the system requirements I loved the first game but can’t even play this one unless I play the entire thing with 5 fps.😢
Thats unreal engine 5 for ya haha
Get the series X, problem solved.
Bro this game is amazing and beautiful idk what you're talking about
I love this game personally
It’s only $50 for Sony and PC. Either wait, or it seems like Xbox wants you to get Game Pass. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. I have game pass and I’m not playing it
i loved the game and same with the first. but the combat is confusing and i don’t know how to successfully parry and heard you can dodge too but don’t know how. i always block and get knocked over on my ass
I'd rather play that Matrix tech demo over this demo.
This game is amazing.
the platform games are on change the opinions of some people. Game is great
you guys missed the point of the game completely, this one is WAY more than just sitting hours, it makes you reflect on empathy, childhood, trying to see the good even when shit is fucked up and with good graphics
First game was exactly same and it was exclusive to PS4, everyone loved it. Now they made a sequel to it. Now its bad all of sudden.
Explain how its worst than original game. Combat though same is better in animation and more visceral. Puzzles are more varied and less annoying.
Xbox tax is real.
Xbox players be like:
50$: nah
Game pass: GOTW
Why not Gamepass is like $15
after finishing the game i can say that the first one is better.
hellblade 2 was better up until ingun. after that it was a hollow story and repetitive gameplay.
Y'all straight up tripping -- it's amazing and unique -- plus pay $10 for a month of game pass and beat it that way
Unique only if you haven't played the first game
I bought it for 22$ on steam and I can't describe how disappointed I am
@suzuyajuuzou4389 try to describe how disappointed you are. Create your own opinion, you can do it.
I 🏴☠️. Was worth it bow
Was the first game not loved above all else by some? It really struck a different nerve iirc. All the more sad this turned out like it did.
lol what? You wouldn’t recommend them to try it on gamepass? That’s a hot take. Graphics in the first 2 hours alone made it worth that.
Yeah that was a surprise. It's definitely worth to spent some time in its phenomenal atmosphere. And I feel like the fact that the voices of Senua get old is actually a pretty neat thing too, because psychosis isn't meant to be entertaining.
But it's definitely some good fun for a weekend. Nothing more, sadly, but also nothing less. I wouldn't pay 50 dollars for it but it's on Game Pass, so what the hell.
Did you play it?
Hellblade was never meant to be an epic AAA adventure game
It was definitely being sold as that a few years ago.
Hellblade was never meant to be a good game
@@dannyboyle1503 you mean the first one?
Yup its a Double A game
@@laigstore yup not every game is good even Playstation ones.
$20 would be a fair price
day one release. not bad for free.
I'm playing it on game pass for free so why not as 1st game not bad maybe it's me
I already have game pass so I tried it and it's fun with the combat but everything else is boring and it's like a walking simulator. Then I put the PS5 back on 😂 is that Indiana Jones game looks pretty awesome now
The devs obviously didn't understand value for money, if I'm getting less value I should be giving less money..
That Indiana game looks dogshit too don't put hope in that 😂😂😂
For me 50 euros is too much !!!
Its not a game just a tech demo playable so for me 30 euros ts was ok
