I think his "strain" during the bench press scene is a case of a mental block. His mind says "this is really heavy", and his body reacts. Because of his super strength, though, he's still able to do it. If he'd had the super strength all his life, and had actually discovered it early on (moving the fridge because his toy car slid underneath, for example), he wouldn't have the strain. Likewise, if he were to have his son load the bar up, then lie about it only being 70 lbs or somewhat, he'd be able to lift it easily.
I wonder if that would be categorised as cheating or unfair for other football players? But then again it is his natural ability, and he didn’t actually know he was unique then.
@Zurround100 Jamie may have held herself back from competing, but her bionics didn't lead to her being disqualified by any athletic association. Nobody knew she was bionic. It wasn't something shared with the general public.
It's explained in the film that some people are just born special, that it's always happened and those people take on the roles of protectors or conquerors. It's not a coincidence that one of his abilities is that he can detect the wrongs others have done. I think the Beast is supposed to represent that the ability is latent in all humanity, you just have to be willful enough to tap into it. I don't think you're really meant to delve into them beyond that, it's not important whether natural mutations, radioactive spider bites or magic supreme beings pass them down. They're a constant throughout human history.
With the beast every human can become superhuman but due to our inhibitors itll stop us from wasting all that energy and itll tear our bodies inside out because of all that pressure which is why in our fight or flight response/adrenaline its temporary for a reason but as he says "the broken are the more evolved" meaning if someone suffered they can push themselves than how they were when they were weak
I believe that super straingh is and would be a side effect of super regeneration. As you lift something have it rips your mecule tissue as it grows back you get stronger and adapt to the weight basically...so if you have super regeneration your mecule would heal and adapt to the whieght at the rate of the rip there for your straingh could be almost boundless. So when he lifts the weight the 1st time it was probably his max which is why he stained as much but as he lifted it and the tissue ripped it instantly healed and adapted. And by the time he put it down and added more weight he was completely recovered and his max had increased allowing him to lift the next weight and so on and so on. Until he ran out of weight to lift
Good idea, but the type of muscular gains you're referencing result in some strength but mostly in hypertrophy (increase in muscle size). So if this were true he's visibly increase in size as he lifted and by now would look like a, relatively, hairless buffalo
Micah Ross I've thought of that to, and that would be true for a normal person but someone with super regeneration wouldn't be normal and there is no case of it to go off of plus not all comic book powers can be explained with real life physics. I am still convenced that it would be a side effect of super regeneration but as to why they don't get super huge in the process would have to be a result of unique muscle structure just like how the flash burns all those colleries and doesn't suffer any side effects except to a huge apitite or how being bit by a radioactive spider made Peter Parker ripped over night
Eeeexcept that his body is unbreakable. Which would include his muscle fibers. I think THAT in itself is the key to his strength. It sounds silly, but let's face it, the whole thing is silly. People get tired and weak when lifting weights and working out BECAUSE their muscles breakdown and need to heal. If your muscles don't break, you theoretically wouldn't tire and wouldn't weaken. His strength may just be due to his mental self-control and focus. He's able to push through his limitations.
Disco_Latitude if that was true he wouldn't get tired but he also wouldn't get stronger plus we don't know what makes him indestructible super regeneration could be a factor in it just like the hulk is vertualy indestructible his skin is so tough that normal bullets and weapons bounce off of him but if there is something strong enough to get past his tough skin he also has super regeneration and can heal from almost any attack in seconds. The same is true for superman no normal weapon can pierce his skin but if you watch when ever there is kryptonite or something magical around that can damage him as soon as he gets away from in his wounds heal instantaneously. And what's one other thing they both have in comman? You got it super strength...
I am off to see it next week. I've never been so pumped to see a super-hero movie. The Marvel Universe and the DC Universe are fun, but I want to take my heroes seriously. For me, David Dunn is just that.
I called this movie as the start of a gritty real world super hero universe when it first came out. I think his strength and durability could be more accurately explained by bone and muscle density.
In the 1st movie, water wasn't so much a WEAKNESS as it was just something he had no defense against. In the 3rd movie, he couldn't walk past a glass of water without choking! Thought they went too far with it in the 3rd one.
In the movie he sees the future: the man he sees getting killed was alive while David was at the station. He was killed later on so his power doesn't make him see "all the horrible things they have done". He sees things the terrible people will do.
As explained in Split how beings get super powers it is possible that David gained those powers when the kids drained him in the pool. It may have been such a shocking moment in his life, that his body developed this high endurance.
Given that the underlying premise is that experiencing trauma can awaken super-human abilities, I find Mr. Glass' character to be fascinating since he is essentially always experiencing trauma.
One thing you may have overlooked, is that after the Railway 177 accident--David Dunn's clothes were not damaged in anyway. Could he possibly have some sort of kinetic shield? (Like Rocket, from Milestone Comic's: Icon) Would explain why he cannot take damage but feels strain while doing certain things.
@@sofakingonmynuts1438 my main character has his clothing (well actually suit) embedded in his skin. And he is very resistant to bladed weapons because of this. Is this plot shielding.
David bends a steel rod in the glass trailer, shoulders a reinforced steel door off its hinges, and effortlessly slams a big dude sideways into a wall.
It's most like based on the same thing they hint towards in unbreakable. What the human mind can make the body due in times of stress and fight or flight situations, and Dunn's ability to sort of use that at will only hindered by his "weakness " and phobia which is water. Expanding on that would be someone's mind that's able to convince itself it's multiple people, and what would happen if it successfully convinced itself it was super human. Look up the kind of stuff monks can do and imagine someone who bipassed twenty years of mediation and practice through shear crazy.
It’s about trauma David became stronger because he drowned which made him traumatized so he never got hurt ever since The horde had a mental breakdown multiple times so his body developed new personalities that can withstand the trauma that was caused to him And elijah was a fragile kid who became a villain because he admired seeing villains and heroes in comics and truly decided he was the villain when he met david Basically they were all born with those powers but their traumas were the reason they were awaken
I think up until this point M. Night has left it up to the viewer to put the pieces together as far as the origin of his powers go. I think, like Kevin, it is in fact a mind over matter sort of thing. In Split there's a lot of talk about the power of the human mind and unlocking the full potential of the brain. Kevin does this through suffering and as a result gains extraordinary abilities. I think David was born this way...with his full potential already unlocked. A few people only experience a glimpse into their true potential. A mother lifting a car to save her children...a person falling thousands of feet and walking away unscathed...clairvoyance and premonitions...monks performing incredible feats by hyper focusing and using the power of their minds. David and Kevin are what humanity could be if we unlocked the full potential of our minds. They are the peak of human evolution. Split gave a more grounded explanation about Kevin's powers. It explored the scientific aspect of things. Unbreakable focused more in the grand scheme of things...heroes that walk among us and the eternal struggle between good and evil. I think Glass will delve more into both sides and bring everything together in a way that is understandable to all audiences.
Water attacks would not automatically take him down. He’s just vulnerable to water (he can drown). No reason to think a water hose would give you the upper hand.
qdllc I always commend M Night for always doing his own thing and never selling out or playing it safe (except for the Last Airbender). However, I can’t deny that many of his decisions still don’t work, specifically in his most recent films.
@@zakbrandsinc in glass the water hoses in his room were high pressure hoses like on a firetruck you're genuinely autistic if you think he couldn't touch water in glass
I really hope that we see a series based on the unbreakable universe. Like that his death wasn't in vain, and people begin believing in the impossible, either for good pra evil... For his Powers, I believe he has the same powers as beast... And the same origins... A deep trauma made his mind reshape his body in ways we cannot fully comprehend... The same as Beast.
I remember watching this movie with my son, always commenting on the superhero mythos. I’m a comic book fan going back to the early 60s, and collected many titles both DC and Marvel, although Marvel predominately. When this movie came out you didn’t have half a dozen other superhero movies out during that year,So as both a movie going fan and a comic book fan I took what I could get! Loved it is much is a matrix, and that’s saying a lot! Many of your points are very well taken. Nice piece buddy!
First off, sorry this comment/essay is so long. Hopefully, you find it interesting. If I were to take a guess to explain his super strength, I would link it to his durability/regenerative abilities/more efficient nervous system. The average untrained person can only use about 30 percent of their muscle fibres at any given time. An elite level athlete can on average use about 40 percent. This is controlled by the nervous system which activates the muscle fibres. Through intense training overtime, the nervous system adapts to certain loads and movements and allows for the activation and recruitment of more muscle fibres to carry out the task. This is why some people can get much stronger without putting on much overall muscle size. However, when adrenaline is pumped into your body, you can use up to 100 percent of your muscle fibres. This can make you strong enough momentarily to punch straight through a wall or lift a car. On the other hand, some people are born with the natural ability to activate more muscles fibres than the average person. I'm sure you may have heard of that small guy who can bend frying pans. Well, he can activate way more muscle fibres than the average person, making him super strong. Whenever you see someone get an electric shock and they fly across the room, its not some explosion that does that. In fact, it's the electricty causing all of their muscles to instantly contract at the same time which generates a huge amount of force. The reason we can't use 100 percent of our muscle fibres all the time is because of the risk of injury it presents to our ligaments and tendons, which would get torn apart with too much strain. On top of that, ligaments and tendons recover and adapt from stress much more slowly than muscles do. But what if you ligaments and tendons were either UNBREAKABLE (hehe) or were able to recover and adapt incredibly quickly from stress. It would mean that if you could use all of your muscle fibres at once (either from genetic make-up or adrenaline) without any real risk (but perhaps with pain and discomfort until the ligaments and tendons healed). Now, while David Dunn is incredibly strong for his size, what he does bench is actually far from superhuman or even world records. An elite level powerlifter or strongman would have absolutely no problem benching 500+ pounds. So it's possible that this strength actually comes from an increased activation of his average-sized muscle fibres, that just doesn't put the same level of stress on his body that it would with anyone else. This could be the result of adrenaline (as when he attempts to bench, he gets worked up and kinda scared each time which would have probably released adrenaline) and/or the natural ability to activate all or most of his muscle fibres through efficiency of his nervous system. This ability could be enhanced by adrenaline which could give the illusion of sheer willpower making him stronger. This efficiency of his nervous system could be the cause of his incredible immune system also.
I always saw his weakness to water more so as him suffocating. He can't breath underwater so he'll drown. Same goes for drinking too fast. Basically he has that similar weakness with Wolverine.
Honestly I think if I were to do a version of David Dunn’s powers, I’d have it be that his body to get the effect of his super durability is so dense and thick in its muscular structure that he has zero buoyancy making him sink in any body of water.
Most Comic book hero's or villains have had traumas in their lives. David Dunn's son hasn't had any traumas in his life yet so if he has powers he may not have them active yet. Wolverine, killing his father and being sick (Wolverine Origin) Magneto having his family ripped from him (1999 Xmen) so on and so forth.
I think sarah Paulson character has powers too, she got her powers thought she was crazy but able to use her position to study others (like how glass had to cause accidents to prove the truth) she investigated them truly hoping they have power as it would confirm she did too, keys are her 2 quotes " I want to believe in real life super heros" but the key line is my proof, she says at beginning Of trailer powers are a delusion, yet in newest trailer is seen saying "we are not meant to have this kind of power " why not "u" or "people" or "humans " the word we is key and clearly she believes in David's strength at least due to his chains in chair scene and the bank vault like door to his room u see him break down I predict she reveals herself to save David (the scene where she reached to him in water.
Whats strange is, from the movie split, im starting to think that david, as well as mr glass, and the beast. They dont have powers. I notice they all have traumas, traumas that hinder the way they perceive themselves. David dunn for instance, he was a successful football player. To be good at football, it may need a belief that you are indestructible in order to take the punishment. David might secretly believe he is all those things very strongly. His one weakness, water, it has to be psychological. Psychological because it takes away his belief that he is strong, unbreakable, overseer. Water is the only thing that convinces him he is weak, its a trauma. But with no water present, i think david dunn is as strong, durable, as he needs to be because he believes so. Its a possibility
I would love to see this universe expand (maybe in comic form) and see what other abilities people might have. Fireproof? Hold your breath for so long people think you breathe underwater? A sort of spidey sense? Could be really cool.
I have the ability to lift heavy based off my thoughts on channeling inner strength such as believing I am superhuman unlocks the potential to be superhuman.
in Unbreakable. it seems he could just drown to be injured or defeated. not that he was terrified and weakened by water. in Glass, he seems to go limp in water. he can drown, but it shouldn't have nullified his powers. i hated how he got bested by a puddle
4:17 the last deleted scene that isn't even on the dvd shows him attempting to lift M.Night Shamalan's ego and break down. It has been cut because that would have defeated the characters point of being unbreakable ;P
I think in the weight lifting his straining Is more mental. Like in the movie GLASS he is almost convinced again that he isn't super human so when he tries to break through the door then he see the mark he left in the door and it shows that he is super so he breaks through the door easily
So here’s what’s cool about David and Elijah… these things are real to a degree, Elijah has a real disease that’s very easy to understand, but David… is yes on the other end of the spectrum. Just as there is a bone density condition to make them much more brittle, there are real living people with the reverse problem… their bones are much more dense, larger, and because of this their muscles are much stronger as well in order to carry that extra weight, so physically stronger, and able to withstand more punishment without breaking bones… and I really wish they would’ve touched on this because for people with this condition… they physically don’t have the buoyancy like the average human being to be able to swim…. Their bones add too much density to their bodies even with the added muscle to compensate, it adds more weight to the point that they are completely incapable of staying afloat, thus… being in bodies of water… beach, lake, pool, is far too dangerous for them, a car crash? Yeah trauma, shock to the body, organs, head trauma can still occur but is severely reduced, and the bones may not break… but yeah anyway… it’s a fascinating story, and it’s based around physiology and psychology when it comes to the beast… I’ve grown to be a huge fan of this trilogy for that reason alone, because it is mostly based in the anomalies of our reality
Mr glass explains that people like dunn have always been around, even uses himself in comparison. meta humans have always been around. he doesn't have a "chemical accident' origin story. he just was.
I like how Poncho Man (sure, let's call him that) is a combo of the big three superheroes. He's durable and strong like Superman. He goes out at night wearing dark colors and stalks criminals like Batman. And he has the ability to sense danger like Spider-Man.
It's explained in the film when the nurse tells him he drowned as a child. He died and came back to life with these abilities. It's well documented throughout history of similar stories where people experienced the same thing. The more David comes to terms and excepts his gifts he is able to accomplish amazing physical feats. It's also very tough to balance this reality within a normal life.
Much like when a family member is trapped under a car or similarly heavy object it is not until that moment that a person would ever seriously consider trying to move something so heavy but when you feel that it needs to be moved you are miraculously capable of moving it, I feel like David's powers are a play on our own hidden strength as humans. Most people believe themselves to be ordinary until something happens that requires them to be extraordinary, amazing survival stories where people who have suffered massive physical trauma but are somehow still capable of dragging themselves to safety are proof that we are more than our fleshly bodies, we are mind and soul as well.
I've always seen David being knocked unconscious by the train derailment as more of a case of sensory overload rather than a result of concussive trauma like it is for normal people. It's hard to know for sure, though for what it's worth he doesn't show any post-concussion symptoms nor does the hospital treat him for as much beyond Dr. Dubin's cursory examination. 5:15 David picking security is almost certainly a manifestation of his superhuman nature. He explicitly states that he's felt an inner "sadness" (essentially depression) for much of his adult life which has led to him keeping his wife and son at a distance. The only time he is relieved of this sadness is when he -- knowingly or otherwise -- does things which set him on the path of becoming a hero. The first time he sheds himself of the depression is when he meets with Elijah to discuss his true nature at Limited Edition and the second is when he dispatches the Orange Man & rescues his victims. It seems entirely likely to me that Dunn's career choice was an attempt by his subconscious to set himself on the path toward his "true calling" or what have you in a way that could be reconciled with a standard 9-to-5 existence. But ultimately playing rent-a-cop didn't scratch that itch.
David Dunn / Kevin Wendell Crumb and his Mother (Glass trilogy) I am not sure if this has been brought up before but I wonder if David inadvertently met a younger Kevin and his mother in Unbreakable. There was a scene outside the stadium where we see a mother hurriedly walking with her son (him struggling to match her pace) in hand. She briefly made physical contact with David who was walking in an opposing direction to them. A moment later we (the viewers) are permitted to hear something that only David hears in his mind. The terrified scream of a young child who we assume was this young boy. It caused David to pause his walking and turnaround to look back at the mother and her child with concern as the distance between them increased. M Night did not treat us with a flashback moment to reveal the context of the child’s scream but the scene adequately conveyed that this must have been a child abuser and her son that David came into contact with. After a few rewatches (years back) I came to the conclusion this was the first time David was becoming subtlety aware of one of his abilities which might explain why there was no flashback scene in this instance. Notice the difference with M Night’s drug dealer cameo later. Here we are given a flashback scene to show us what M Night’s character was up to giving David probable cause to engage him. After watching Glass and M Night giving us the revelation that Kevin’s father was also a victim of the Eastrail disaster, I remembered the mother and son scene from Unbreakable and wondered could it have been that David met Kevin and his mother (without realising it) way back then?
Considering he benches 350 after years of not training with little to no warm up sets. I can only imagine if he continued strength training he would likely be able to bench press weight somewhere around 2000 lbs
Since the human body is composed of around 70% water it's not likely that he would have a general vulnerability to water otherwise he would have a problem when it rains or he's taking a bath or shower. As mentioned in the movie when he fell into the pool he kept swallowing water. So I would say his vulnerability to water is that he lacks the mammalian instinct to stop breathing when submerged. Combine that with hydrophobia which would induce hyperventilation combined with a higher than normal bone density and you've got David Dunn's vulnerability to water.
Hey man, great video! I have a quick theory for you on Elijah Price lineage etc. David Dunn has a double name and I believe Mr Glass does too. I bet at some point in film we realize who Elijah's dad was and he had some sort of power too. His last name will start with an E Allowing for a EE name similar to DD for David Dunnam.
Due to his superhuman durability he is able to exert himself at peak strength without fear of his bones breaking or muscles tearing. So while is may not be say superman or hulk level he is still considerably stronger than most of the human population. As for the weakness to water I think it similar to the devil fruit users in one piece being that he has to be partially or completely submerged in water for it to start effecting him negatively. Hopefully they will elaborate further in GLASS and we can get a more detailed picture of the scope of all the parties abilities.
To all those who may be interested, there is a book that was written years ago called Gladiator. The author is Phillip Wylie, and this book was the true inspiration for Superman, and I am sure Shyamalan is familiar with it, because David Dunn acts like to hero in the book.
His powers might be like Gladiator from Marvel. Gladiator's power is all based on his perception of himself, and his thinking that he can win. When his confidence is shaken, he becomes weaker. Since David felt that he almost drowned as a child, his abilities are crippled when that fear takes hold of him. It also makes sense in his perception of how strong he is. Since he struggles, yet succeeds as lifting any weight.
I like the video, it's good to catch up on this especially before seeing "GLASS". Although I saw a few clips on youtube from the film and I think Mr. Glass gives him a name. He calls David Dun. "Overseer"
I think PART of the reason he's so strong is because his muscle fibers don't break. As far as drowning, to me, that just seems like less of a "weakness" and more of logical reality. Doesn't matter how strong your body is you're still gonna die if you can't breathe.
Love the tie ins for Kevin in Unbreakable. David bumps into his mother before he understands his powers and doesn't follow. Also the train wreak kills Kevin's father which starts his abuse.
When I saw this as a kid, for years I wanted a sequel. The hype is real.

@@jiggyfly7165 I can get down with that👍
Eeeexcept that his body is unbreakable.
Glass will be awesome
wolf player true because you got everyone from the previous movies all coming together.
I sincerely hope it is.
I can't wait 😫😫
Good movie but terrible ending 😭
I am off to see it next week. I've never been so pumped to see a super-hero movie. The Marvel Universe and the DC Universe are fun, but I want to take my heroes seriously. For me, David Dunn is just that.
I called this movie as the start of a gritty real world super hero universe when it first came out. I think his strength and durability could be more accurately explained by bone and muscle density.
OOHoooOOooOh! They should bring Chronicle into this universe, even though it has nothing to do with M. Night Shamalamadindgong.
We all know that David's real super power is to make any poncho he wears Super water proof
We all know that was super lame attempt to be funny

He's tarp man
In the 1st movie, water wasn't so much a WEAKNESS as it was just something he had no defense against.
M. Night's superhero universe is all about mental over physical, as long as there's a will, there's a way.
As explained in Split how beings get super powers it is possible that David gained those powers when the kids drained him in the pool. It may have been such a shocking moment in his life, that his body developed this high endurance.
His hero name is The Overseer
It was on one of the Glass posters
He has dead people powers.
Radiccal lol! Good one.
Dayum 😂
Given that the underlying premise is that experiencing trauma can awaken super-human abilities, I find Mr. Glass' character to be fascinating since he is essentially always experiencing trauma.
One thing you may have overlooked, is that after the Railway 177 accident--David Dunn's clothes were not damaged in anyway. Could he possibly have some sort of kinetic shield? (Like Rocket, from Milestone Comic's: Icon) Would explain why he cannot take damage but feels strain while doing certain things.
but yes, any super hero has some sort of passive shielding, but it is really a retcon of plot holes
@DRAWN there are fist shaped dents in the door IIRC
@DRAWN and Mr Glass does comment on the bending of the steel with his bare hands doesn't he?

Now explain The Hordes power.
It's on the list!
Explain the power of Hot Pockets
It's most like based on the same thing they hint towards in unbreakable. What the human mind can make the body due in times of stress and fight or flight situations, and Dunn's ability to sort of use that at will only hindered by his "weakness " and phobia which is water. Expanding on that would be someone's mind that's able to convince itself it's multiple people, and what would happen if it successfully convinced itself it was super human. Look up the kind of stuff monks can do and imagine someone who bipassed twenty years of mediation and practice through shear crazy.
It’s about trauma
David became stronger because he drowned which made him traumatized so he never got hurt ever since
The horde had a mental breakdown multiple times so his body developed new personalities that can withstand the trauma that was caused to him
And elijah was a fragile kid who became a villain because he admired seeing villains and heroes in comics and truly decided he was the villain when he met david
Basically they were all born with those powers but their traumas were the reason they were awaken
Explain the power of friendship.
David kneels when he manages to get out of the pool, then s-l-o-w-l-y rises up to full stature in front of the 2 girls, and looks absolutely god-like.
Water attacks would not automatically take him down. He’s just vulnerable to water (he can drown). No reason to think a water hose would give you the upper hand.
qdllc Some people just like being funny, even tho they aren’t or they’re just stupid. Both time wasters.
qdllc Spoiler alert
In Glass they retconned his weakness to literally be just water. It’s so dumb and makes no sense.
@@zakbrandsinc - Sadly, that does not surprise me.

I've watched this movie 10 times. I love this movie and the good guy, super hero, protect the weak theme is profoundly inspirational.
Me? Only 7.
Would really love if you did Elijah Price/Mr.Glass and Kevin/Hoarde next since Glass releases on December.

The character of Dunn is a reflection of the 'Everyday Heroism of the Common Man' As Glass is the Anti-!
Imagining someone like David in a profession such as Special Forces or something would be an awesome story.
We need David Dunn with a waterproof suit against Aquaman
I'm so glad this is finally getting a sequel, I was always pissed off at the way it ended haha

I think sarah Paulson character has powers too, she got her powers thought she was crazy but able to use her position to study others (like how glass had to cause accidents to prove the truth) she investigated them truly hoping they have power as it would confirm she did too, keys are her 2 quotes " I want to believe in real life super heros" but the key line is my proof, she says at beginning
Of trailer powers are a delusion, yet in newest trailer is seen saying "we are not meant to have this kind of power " why not "u" or "people" or "humans " the word we is key and clearly she believes in David's strength at least due to his chains in chair scene and the bank vault like door to his room u see him break down I predict she reveals herself to save David (the scene where she reached to him in water.

When Superman was first in comics, he could not fly and had very few "powers" he had to struggle lifting also.
Its a possibility
great video keep up the good work love your content
Thanks !
I would love to see this universe expand (maybe in comic form) and see what other abilities people might have. Fireproof? Hold your breath for so long people think you breathe underwater? A sort of spidey sense? Could be really cool.
He's like gladiator from the Marvel universe
always liked the Gladiator
I have the ability to lift heavy based off my thoughts on channeling inner strength such as believing I am superhuman unlocks the potential to be superhuman.
in Unbreakable. it seems he could just drown to be injured or defeated. not that he was terrified and weakened by water. in Glass, he seems to go limp in water. he can drown, but it shouldn't have nullified his powers. i hated how he got bested by a puddle
How the hell would he get passed showers? That’s the problem I have with Glass. With a puddle that size he could have easily lifted himself off.
I read the thumbnail as "Daddy Dunn's Prowess Explained"
4:17 the last deleted scene that isn't even on the dvd shows him attempting to lift M.Night Shamalan's ego and break down. It has been cut because that would have defeated the characters point of being unbreakable ;P
I think in the weight lifting his straining Is more mental. Like in the movie GLASS he is almost convinced again that he isn't super human so when he tries to break through the door then he see the mark he left in the door and it shows that he is super so he breaks through the door easily
David working in security is of course linked to his super powers. He has an innate need to be a protector.
I cannot wait for mr glass!
This video is brilliant. Thank you.
Mr glass explains that people like dunn have always been around, even uses himself in comparison. meta humans have always been around. he doesn't have a "chemical accident' origin story. he just was.
this is the nerdiest and best thing ever. Good stuff. i have been obsessed with Unbreakable since I first saw it as a kid in theaters
He doesn't have hydrophobia the has a good reason to fear bodies of water
0:05 david dunn, aka one PUNCH man
I like how Poncho Man (sure, let's call him that) is a combo of the big three superheroes. He's durable and strong like Superman. He goes out at night wearing dark colors and stalks criminals like Batman. And he has the ability to sense danger like Spider-Man.
He die on Glass movie 😢, my favourite character
5:15
David picking security is almost certainly a manifestation of his superhuman nature.
David Dunn / Kevin Wendell Crumb and his Mother (Glass trilogy)
I am not sure if this has been brought up before but I wonder if David inadvertently met a younger Kevin and his mother in Unbreakable.
Honestly I think this guy ate a devil fruit back in his early days.
Considering he benches 350 after years of not training with little to no warm up sets. I can only imagine if he continued strength training he would likely be able to bench press weight somewhere around 2000 lbs
David Dunn is Superman
Kevin Crumb is Doomsday
Elijah Price is Lex Luthor
Since the human body is composed of around 70% water it's not likely that he would have a general vulnerability to water otherwise he would have a problem when it rains or he's taking a bath or shower. As mentioned in the movie when he fell into the pool he kept swallowing water. So I would say his vulnerability to water is that he lacks the mammalian instinct to stop breathing when submerged. Combine that with hydrophobia which would induce hyperventilation combined with a higher than normal bone density and you've got David Dunn's vulnerability to water.
I know they are seperate properties but i like the idea that chronicle is connected to this world
Hey man, great video!
Water plays a big role in Signs also.
Thatz because m night doesn't shower and smells like armpits!
David is Stronger Than Horde
Him versus the Beast is going to be intense.
I totally forgot that unbreakable was so old , I'm glad he made the up coming sequel before they get too old .
Bruce and Sam ain't spring chickens any more
Due to his superhuman durability he is able to exert himself at peak strength without fear of his bones breaking or muscles tearing.
Sounds like he has superhuman empathy in a veriation similar to a spider semse / penance stare
To all those who may be interested, there is a book that was written years ago called Gladiator. The author is Phillip Wylie, and this book was the true inspiration for Superman, and I am sure Shyamalan is familiar with it, because David Dunn acts like to hero in the book.
4:48 That guy to his right is my boss.
Why was David held ??? ....the girls would have given statements supporting the fact that he rescued them.
I like the video, it's good to catch up on this especially before seeing "GLASS". Although I saw a few clips on youtube from the film and I think Mr. Glass gives him a name. He calls David Dun. "Overseer"
The way he stressed "Sixth Sense" Epic
The Horde vs The Overseer.
It was awesome.
