- Israel has again denounced the International Criminal Court. On Monday, the court's chief prosecutor requested a warrant for the arrest of Israel's prime minister and defense minister over the war in Gaza. In a statement, a spokesperson for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urged "nations of the civilized free world" to oppose and condemn the decision. EU leaders are divided on the arrest warrant bid for Netanyahu.

As far as I understand, neither Irak nor the US recognise the ICC so the court can't juge the case.
The palestinien state (or what's remain of it) recognise ICC juridiction si ICC can judge Hamas and Israël.

Germany is morally compromised by the holocaust, the US did not sign the Rome Treaty, and does not recognise the court. France has acted as one would expect. I hope my country, the UK, backs its treaty obligations, but this government is threatening to leave the ECHR. Dark times.
Signatories to the Rome Treaty have an obligation. We must be seen to be serious about upholding international law.

The EU is now in a tricky situation. If they decide that they don't really want to enforce this arrest warrant (if it goes ahead), it will effectively be the end of the ICC. If they do enforce it, it will mean a new policy needed for the Middle East, and negative impact to the defence industry as well as loss of diplomatic credibility.
All in Russian favor now he can say look at the mess a democratic nation makes and doesn't follow thru with law enforcement

The EU has no police force, it is a group of 27 sovereign nations and police forces. It has no foreign policies without agreement by all 27 and they are not on agreement on anything about this conflict.
Foreign policy is not a competency of the EU, each member country has their own.
Ireland, Spain and others are just about to formally recognise Palestine as a full UN member country, for example.

I do not understand the interpretation that the prosecutor equated Netanyahu and Hamas? The prosecutor explicitly alleged different criminal acts for Israel than those for Hamas. I'm only surprised that those using the equalization argument couldn't come up with a smarter reason.

They're all the monsters. One set killed approx 1,200 & took 200 hostages, the other set put a whole population in prison, has over 4,450 hostages, has killed approx 30,000 (so far) & is starving millions.
The lesser monsters are probably operating within international law by engaging in an armed struggle against an invading force, whereas the great monsters are the invading force. One set of monsters comes from the indigenous population and the other set from colonial settlers. It's a lot like Africa in the 1970s & 80s.
However, all of this is up to the ICC to determine, not politicians.
