- The US and Ukraine have signed a ten-year bilateral security agreement on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Italy. Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the pact would protect not just his country, but the world, from Russian aggression. G7 leaders also backed a multi-billion dollar deal to use the interest from frozen Russian assets to help Ukraine strengthen its defenses and pay for reconstruction.
For more about the latest at the G7 and this 50 billion dollar loan to Ukraine, we talk to Claudia Schmucker. She is the Head of the Center for Geopolitics, Geoeconomics and Technology at the German Council on Foreign Relations.
And we speak with our Chief Political Correspondent Nina Haase, who is in Bari at the summit for us.

You don’t steal deposits to pay for reparations even just the interest as the interest is still part of that deposit and property of the depositor. The West can twist it that it’s an illegal war and make it as reparations but still you can’t steal someone’s money even if they did something illegal. Reparations are normally discussed once a peace treaty is signed. And if the depositor agrees to use those deposits as the reparations then they could give it to Ukraine.
The damage to western banks has been done by threatening to steal the money.
The west might as well go through with it and push the problem into the future.
The Russian money + interest could have been held and used as leverage when talks start.

Not stealing any money. It's like a teacher taking a student's phone off him because he is disrupting class. The phone remains the student's phone, just that he can't use it, so NOT theft. Russia should behave itself, not act like the bully. Stop the war and get your phone back. Simple.
