Thank you so much, Darnell!! This was the video I needed today. I spent so many hours trying to figure this out and the instructions from Leviton were not helping.
This solved my problem. It took me a few tries to realize I had the remote and main switch flipped. But once I got that squared away and followed these instructions, it worked perfectly!!!
I don't know why I didn't search for this on UA-cam several years ago (maybe it was before you posted this), but you finally got me through setting up these switches and remotes! I tried everything I could think of EXCEPT putting the main switch at the load. I just thought it was a dud of a product. Watched your video and then got them working on the first go. I did watch the Leviton video as well, but preferred yours. Just for reference for others, I was using the DW1KD with the DD00R-DL and it works just the same. Only difference is the DW1KD has leads coming off the switch rather than screw terminals.
holy shit thanks bro. I got the Gen 2 dimmer and the instructions don't even tell you how to do the 3 way they say to watch their youtube video.. which was also wrong... I was about to return it when I saw your video and now everything works. it's just a bit different because the Gen 2 has wires coming out instead of screw terminals
Thanks,After watching your video I figured out I had to swap the switch locations and pair one of my Traveler wires (black) to have constant 120v to the smart switch on the other end. Before my DD00r switch would only turn on when the smart switch was on.
You have no idea how long I fought with this until I found this video. Thank you for the clear instructions, one watch and it immediately solved my issues.
WOW, this video and wiring working perfectly...thank you!!! PS, just spend two days and many, many hours trying to figure this out and bam, I found your vid.
Thank you for your video. It helped a technician get things sorted quickly. He also worked on it about 3 days before saying I just cannot figure this out.
Darnell, thanks for helping me understand the 3 way wiring for these dimmers switches. Especially, the line and load locations. Keep doing your videos!!! Thanks again...
Great work Darnell! I've been trying all sorts of things this evening to no avail. Thank you so much for stepping up and solving a real problem! (Which evidently Leviton has no interest is correcting!) It's like the instructions in the box are for completely different products! Thank you so much!
The same applies to the Feit Smart Switch Dimmer, but their instructions were clearer. BTW, do you know if the same applies to the Leviton 2nd Gen Smart Switch ( D215S) paired with this coordinating switch (DD0SR)?
Yes this video should help with Second Gen smart Switch as the wiring is the same for most 3 way switches. Some may or may not require neutral wire, but the master and remote switch should go to the places I state in this video.
Dude! Nice work man this is so helpful! I can’t wait to go back and redo, I need at least another week break away from it though after that damn stress haha. Do you know many trips to the breaker I did on this, walk of effin shame!
this makes a lot of sense. Are there 3-way set-ups where the line in and load is on the same switch or is the load and line-in always separated like in this video?
Well this setup is when you have a master dimmer switch ("load" side) and you have to have a "remote dimmer" (line in" side). If its not a 3way setup then you will only use the master switch, and the "load" and the "line in" will go to the same master switch. In most cases for this scenario, the "line in" and the "load" wire will go to separate switches and use traveler wires to bridge the two.
I am copying this comment from another video I just visited. It is _my_ comment, so I'm allowed to do that, right? Anyway, I had high hopes I could install this 3-way switch but apparently not. First, I did not know there was such a thing as a 3-way switch. I learned that at Home Depot when I was buying a switch. I bought the Decora Smart. There were more wires on the new switch then there were connected to the old switch. The instructions seemed to say that I likely would not be using the switch's yellow wire. I'm not sure if that is right or not. I ended up trying it in one of many configurations. I finally figured got it connected up best I could. The other 3-way switch would turn off everything, including the new light switch. So, obviously that wasn't right. I finally called the 800-number on the instructions. I was told I needed a second Leviton 3-way switch for my second switch. Nope, not happening for a couple of reasons. If that information is true, it ought to be stated right up front. It seems I wasted my time.
Well if you watch this video you will see you do need the remote switch To make the 3 way work. The remote is a diffrent model then the master switch. I note all of this in the video . I recommend you watch video again and go get the remote switch , don't give up. You almost there
@@darnellwilliams4229 I appreciate your response. There is a master switch and a remote switch. I never knew that, either. But I am waving the white flag because it has simply gotten too complicated. I now have it setup so I can say "light on" and "light off" and it works as long as the other switch is "on". I am going to tell myself that the necessity of a 3-way setup has been eliminated by voice. So in a sense, I've succeeded.
@@WhtetstoneFlunky if you attempt it the right way you will feel a lot better. You exhausted your self not knowing all the things that are required. Now you found my video it will be a walk in the park with the right knowledge. You learned something new today, you learned you need a remote and a master switch to operate the 3 way. If you persevere through this , imagine the power and confidence you will have when it comes to 3 way switches. u will be doing other ones in the house with no problems. It took me 3 days before i figured it out. Dont give up. Go to home depot and get the DDOOR-DL switch or buy from amazon. Then rewatch my video. U will complete it in 15 mins
@@darnellwilliams4229 Again, I appreciate your response. I actually took off the face plate and looked at the other switch. It was a maze of wires. It is a conventional toggle switch with two other toggle switches behind the same face plate. So I would have to change all the switches and get a new faceplate. That is assuming I could actually succeed at wiring the 3-way switches correctly. The project simply got out-of-hand. I should have done extra research ahead of time and I would have known I would have been out of my league. But thanks.
Thanks for this, Darnell! One thing is, and you already mentioned that Leviton updated their instructions, is that the new video is here: ua-cam.com/video/T5cucTA6ioE/v-deo.html I happen to have configuration 2, with the line, load, and traveler jackets in one box and then in the other box just a traveler jacket. In THAT case, the master switch goes into the box with all 3 jackets and the remote goes to the one with just the traveler. I don't think this is a common configuration, however, so your instructions are very helpful.
Looks like the correct installation video is here and seems to match what you are describing. Wouldn't have looked for it otherwise. Thank you. ua-cam.com/video/T5cucTA6ioE/v-deo.html&feature=emb_logo
